In the middle of Donggonggon township, Penampang, there is a statue of the late Datuk Peter Joinod Mojuntin. It’s about 15 feet tall. On the 4 corners of the platform, there are descriptions of his titles and achievements, including the following: That plane crash also killed the Chief Minister of Sabah at that time, Tun Fuad Stephens ...

5-time astronaut Robert ?Hoot? Gibson in Sabah
2007-10-20 02:30:00
Hoot Gibson became an instant celebrity in Malaysia when he is prominently being featured on local media as everybody in Malaysia becomes astronaut-crazy. He even did a little tour of the country sharing his experiences. Recently he was in Sabah . This is my brother taking a photo with Mr Gibson. Sigh… I wish I was there too.

The photo below was taken by yours truly on 26th September 2007 at Wisma MUIS, Kota Kinabalu. Background: fasting month is in full swing. The central air-con broke down. It’s been several days, with no improvement. Rumours swirling about are saying that it would take a very long time to fix because not one but three ...

2007-10-14 02:43:00
If you look at the live telecast of the Soyuz carrying Malaysia’s first person in space docking with the ISS on 12th October, there are a few things I observed: - there’s no video of the docking in progress; but looking at the videos of docking to ISS of the Soyuz crafts carrying previous space tourists ...

Halo phenomenon on 11th October 2007: could this be the worst UFO sighting
2007-10-13 02:30:00
Further on the halo phenomenon yesterday, there’s a video of it posted on youtube which purportedly shows a white blob moving around the sun. Perhaps this is just a a joke, but isn’t that so obvious?! The white blob moves in perfect sync with the camera. If it’s a real UFO, the camera should be struggling ...

You can?t sing this popular Malay 1970s song without turning heads in Sabah
2007-10-12 02:35:00
What else but A Kadir’s 1975 classic Lontong? In the peninsula, it’s a delicacy. Usually it is “nasi himpit” (compressed rice cakes cut into cubes), then added with “sayur lodeh” (vegetable coconut curry). The vege can be cabbage, long beans, carrots and fried tempe (kind of beancurd). Tofu can also be added into the curry. Finally, peanut ...

2007-10-10 02:27:00
Who doesn’t know Saloma’s Hari Raya song? However, what some might now is that there is an older version of the same song recorded in the 1950s. I don’t think you’ll hear the older version that often, partly because its lyrics has references to playing firecrackers - tolerated then, but banned now. Dam Dam Dum, Bunyi Mercun, ...

Malaysia?s most popular Hari Raya songs ever
2007-10-08 02:36:00
There have been many Hari Raya songs written, but after so many years, I still hear the following songs year in and year out. They are what I call total classics, everybody knows them, they still sound good, and pretenders will have a very hard time replacing them. Note: if you have never registered with imeem.com before, ...

2007-10-05 16:10:00
My Streamyx connection was strangely intermittent (DSL light keeps blinking) a few days ago, then one night it just decided to quit. I thought it was “normal”, since Swordie mentioned that the guys at TM are doing an upgrade for a whopping 8 days starting 2nd October. However, checking further it seems that that only ...

Have you been forwarded a videoclip about 2 minutes long entitled “The Translator” by Catherine Tate, playing a character named Helen Marsh, in which she “attempts” to translate, from English into several languages, including Italian, Spanish, Swedish and some unnamed countries (but obviously Chinese and African). When I got it for the first time, I didn’t ...

Eatery-wise, it’s easy to know which ones are good and which ones to avoid, just by looking at the number of patrons it attracts. Restoran Wah Juan of Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu is one of them. Everytime I go past in the morning hours, weekdays or weekends, it is always overflowing: the seats are full and people ...

Sexist arcade game at Wawasan Plaza, Kota Kinabalu?
2007-09-26 02:36:00
On the 2nd floor of Wawasan Plaza, Kota Kinabalu is an amusement centre containing quite a few arcade games. One of them is, at first glance, a harmless-looking sniper game from Konami entitled Silent Scope. But looking closer on the right panel, one can see the following: Yes, it’s just a game, but it might give wrong ideas ...

2007-09-24 02:30:00
This is my favourite talk show, ever since I saw how they grilled the former DPM several years ago. The following interview was shown on BBC a few days ago. It’s about 20 minutes in length, divided into 4 parts. Unsurprisingly, there are many interesting comments about it on youtube.

The new manager First official statement on Chelsea FC’s official website As of a few hours ago, the forum thread at Chelsea FC’s official website entitled “Official: Chelsea and Jose Mourinho Have Parted Company” had had more than 30,000 views and more than 500 replies in 23 pages, the most popular thread in the entire website. I actually feel sick! I’m in total shock! I don’t know what to say. Avram Grant is gonna ****ing be in charge when we face Utd. stupid If we lose him we are in trouble. Its not when we lose him that makes a difference, its the fact that we have lost him if its all true, we won’t be the same team. Without him our team is already 50% weaker again if its true. The best produced Kadazandusun song ever
2007-09-20 02:30:00
Petronella Suan released her debut album in October last year. It contains mostly Malay songs but there was one Kadazandusun song (with a Malay version as well), and in yours truly’s humble opinion the best song in the whole album, and one of the best original songs in the Kadazandun language ever written. It was co-written by Damian Manson (a friend of mine), Greg Handerson, Petronella herself and Yuriz. Petronella penned the lyrics. If you like it, please support our local artistes: purchase the original.

If you like it, please support local musicians: buy the ...

We had a church event at Melinsung Summer Bay Resort end of August till early September. For accomodation, most of us stayed at the 3-room apartments. My boy Ethan celebrated his 4th birthday on 30th August. Can you see anything strange about the picture below? I never expected that he’d get so many presents (more than 30 in all), all from different persons. Most of it came from his schoolmates. The school has about 60 kids in total. It was so many that ...
