The month that was (well somewhat at least)
2008-05-08 20:51:00
Yes its been another month. Somehow i feel that I'm completely neglecting my blog, it used to be a little more important to me before....That might not be a bad thing, normally it just appears that since there isn't any set time for me to get back home, I just don't bother. Now I answered a tag in my post last month.. and was amazingly surprised to see that 3 people ACTUALLY responded. Of course, silver linings always enshroud a cloud, and there were several comments on how people couldn't believe that I actually managed to sit and answer the entire thing (insulting since it wasn't THAT long either).Another internal passed by a few days ago.. and there have been a few things I have noticed.Firstly, BMS is an amazing college during elections... it appears to be a centre for our state elections, thus ensuring that even on the days other colleges are open, our classes are cancelled because the teachers are busy with election duty. Now I don't know (or care) if the teachers going f...

Ok i've been tagged by PrithviIt seems WAY too long for a normal tag, but i'll try and respond anyway..5 things you wish you could say to people1)Fuck off (haha i say that all the time though).2)Stop asking me why im quiet, i just am.3)The fact that I have no need to talk 24-7 does NOT make me depressed.4)Linkin Park is NOT metal, if you own a shirt of theirs don't let me see it.5)Make up your mind dammit.8 things about me1) I'm a metalhead.2) I apparently tend to give the impression that I'm arrogant, at first at least.3) I can be quite cynical and sarcastic.4) I spend way too much time online, not doing anything useful (until recently)5) People say that I have the potential to do well, but it never motivates me to put in effort... actually I put more effort into minimizing the amount of work I have to do than anything else (I know it doesn't make sense).6) The fact that I make a lot of "rude" comments, and make fun of people all the time does not mean I'm not capable of bei...
Yes I AM still alive
2008-04-01 13:19:00
I truly feel like I've been neglecting my blog.. last post was so long ago, that I don't recall a lot of the stuff that has happened since then, which works out well in one way... shorter post.Theres been one pretty important thing, and that would be getting into the Melton Foundation. Ya, I know none of you have a clue what that is... didn't mean to make it sound like you should. Its basically an international organization, that aims at bringing positive change by tapping the talent of people from diverse cultures. It has 5 partner universities, One each in the US, Germany, Chile and China... In India the partner college is BMS.There are around 6 people who get selected into the foundation each year.. and the selection process is quite rigorous here. The idea of the foundation is to build an international network of people dedicated to helping each other and others, and the idea of limiting the numbers is because the foundation puts in a lot of resources into each person, and the...

Rock Ethos 08 reviews
2008-02-17 06:34:00
In reference to my earlier post.. Rock Ethos was a HUGE success. The turnout was unexpectedly large.. especially for the afternoon session, and the crowd was great. No one really cribbed about the fact that there were no covers, and all the bands did a good job as well... i managed to stay for almost the entire thing. The sound was great throughout, and except for slightly low PA volumes on a few bands performances, i dont think that there were any other sound issues. My favourites were Inviktus, Inner Sanctum, Extinct Reflections, Kryptos, Myndsnare and Bhoomi. Those five bands played really well, and my type of music too.It was the first time i've heard Bhoomi properly, and i was quite impressed.. damn tight, nice vocals.I've always liked Inner Sanctum, and i got to hear a couple of their newer tracks... which are brilliant as well, actually i think Human Disregard is their best song yet. Head-banged like crazy to them.Inviktus was amazing on the day... their songs, as usual were ...

Start of my second semester of engineering. The first thing i learnt was that my class was on the 7th floor..... for those of you who dont study in a bangalore engineering college that might not seem like a big deal. But here it most definitely is. Thankfully the elevator works, but thats all there is to say about it... an average of 30 people try to cram in to it, despite the fact that there is only room for about 10.Much more importantly, it seems to stop on every fucking floor. I mean wtf, why would someone press the damn button unless you plan to stick around and wait for the elevator to get to you.The result of all this, is that we wait almost 10 minutes every single time we want to get down... and around the same to get up. The extreme discomfort of coming down when a class of 60 is desperately trying to squeeze in has led me, with a lot of prodding, to shed my laziness and actually climb down on occasion. Climbing up, however is out of the question. The second thing i learnt, ...
Rock Ethos - 08
2008-01-31 18:48:00
Been meaning to post about this for a while, but my internet connection has been a real pain in the ass.Anyway.. Rock Ethos (the site isnt fully functional at the point when i write this, but try anyway.. its got enough on it for information) is a rock fest which is going to be held at Palace Grounds, in Bangalore, on the 10th of February.I think thats a good enough reason to come for some, but this is a lot more than just another fest. The main objectives of the fest areTo promote original music, and develop the Bangalores (and eventually the whole country's) rock/metal sceneTo give bands a platform to performTo create a larger and more cohesive rock community that supports the scene.I think the first one is the most important, and its most obviously being done. NO COVERS ALLOWED. Its an all original festival, that will feature 13 bands, each with a 40 odd minute set (this hasnt been confirmed yet, but is most likely)Another important thing. Entry is FREEanyway, the bands featuring...

First... look to the right.I added a church of the flying spaghetti monster button. i love this site, amazing concept (basically a satiric response to the whole creationism vs evolution debate that was kicked up by the kansas school board in the US)amazing stuff, check it out when you can... jus click the button on the rightanyway, did another stupid test.found it hereWhat Karthik MeansYou are a seeker of knowledge, and you have learned many things in your life. You are also a keeper of knowledge - meaning you don't spill secrets or spread gossip.People sometimes think you're snobby or aloof, but you're just too deep in thought to pay attention to them. You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic "Type A" personality. You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. Exams are over. FINALLY. Ok to be honest they're not, but the real ones, which we needed to study for are, now its just labs (one of which is hard unfortunately), and one bullshit paper.I celebrate the fact that its the last time ill ever have to study chemistry, (if i've passed that is). It was with great glee that i burnt my chemistry question paper.... watching it smoldering and dying was almost as much fun as the initial blaze and grandeur with which it burnt.I am not a pyromaniac.I think.Couldn't do the same with my textbooks unfortunately, we have to exchange them with the people who have the subjects that we will next semester... good for the environment i guess. The best part is i don't think i'm going to get any backs... highly pleased with that.We went to Purple Haze last night (couldn't do something big since half the people have their last exam today), and they were playing Fear of a Blank Planet when we entered.... now what better welcome could I possible ask for?T...
Blog reviews, and thoughts on the assassination
2008-01-08 11:29:00
Ongoing exams have not deterred me from posting (ya i know i posted shit, but its something), i think i should appreciate myself for that.... since no one else will. This post should be split into two parts. One is a review on 2 blogs, and the other is about the Benazir Bhutto assassination (which is a little lower down). Pick whichever one you're interested in if not both.Part 1I've been spending some time reading a few blogs that caught my interest over time, and for those of you who dont have a habit and going through the links on the right hand tab, here are two of them.Waiter Rant Simply an amazing blog, its big for a reason... maintained by a new york waiter in an upmarket restaurant, its mostly about what happens during his days. He posts often, and manages to make even narration of somewhat mundane situations interesting, to be clear, not all of them are that mundane. Somehow gets you hooked.A product of procrastination This one is a far cry from the previous... its maintai...

Past Life Diagnosis?
2008-01-07 11:40:00
Found this test on this blog.Yes quite jobless of me to post it here, but if you think its stupid just read the next post...... this was just to pass time.Pretty funny stuff thoughYour past life diagnosis: I don't know how you feel about it, but you were male in your last earthly incarnation. You were born somewhere in the territory of modern Cyprus around the year 1850. Your profession was that of a medic, surgeon or herbalist. Your brief psychological profile in your past life:Ruthless character, carefully weighing his decisions in critical situations, with excellent self-control and strong will. Such people are generally liked, but not always loved. The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation:Magic is everywhere around you, even in the most usual, most ordinary situations. Your lesson is to understand this magic and to help other people to see it, too. You are a magician! Do you remember now?this is where you can find the test

VTU sucks, and other rants
2007-12-22 18:07:00
First off,i'll try to skip the ranting and raving about exams being close... that seems to be an essential part of every one of my posts after joining college (actually before that too)... semester exams on 31st.. todays 22nd.. haven't studied blah blah blahOne thing that i wont skip ranting about, is the fact that i JUST realized (yes, i have become quite slow), that there is an extremely good chance that im going to have exams in the first 2 or 3 days of EVERY FUCKING YEAR.So im either going to have to keep writing exams for more than 4 years (thats the duration of my course), or am going to have to say goodbye to those new year's eves of revelry that take several days to recover from... funny thing, saying goodbye to something you never even knew. Im hoping like hell that there aren't any exams on 1st. Such is life, at least my life, under the moronic VTU... the popular "we torture you" acronym simply doesn't do it justice.APART from that..... i'm sure all of you who care p...

A wandering mind wonders
2007-11-19 16:01:00
I'm back online with nothing to do now... mainly because internals are close.I've noticed (and i'm sure i've mentioned it before) that the amount of time wasted online is very closely related to the proximity of my exams. The closer they are, the more time spent.... since i couldn't find anything better to occupy myself with at this moment, i've turned to my blog (the very reason i created it in the first place).I've also noticed that more and more of each day is spent doing absolutely nothing. Now this isn't a new phenomenon by any chance... but normally when your just hanging around, you don't actively think about how you aren't doing anything at all (not even talking at times... ). To my great chagrin the screen of my mp3 player has cracked, so when i'm sitting around in college and don't feel like talking much, and am too lazy to go back home... i just end up sitting. Sitting can be fun, but it takes practice to shut everyone out, and frankly i'm out of practice. Eit...

One month.... thats how long its been since i last posted.Somehow i seem to have started several of my more recent posts with that kind of fact... time sure does fly when you have nothing to do..lolOf course, thats not entirely true... in the last month quite a bit has happened. Didn't manage to motivate myself to study for my internals at all, quite a sad defeat for the conscientious side of me, however that side is so used to defeat of this nature that it doesn't even seem to make a difference (much like the Indian football team)... that might change for a brief period of time when i get my marks, and for a slightly longer period of time when my parents get them, but neither is going to change me.On a more interesting front, i've watched a few gigs of late. The first one was something called rockillution, I went there to watch Extinct Reflections , who were brilliant (as usual).Later there was one at a pub called On Da Roxx.... a dream gig with some of the best bands in town pl...

college updates, and the "Escape From Electronics"
2007-10-04 15:46:00
Its now been a month since college started.... one person with a relative in the high court actually said it was the first month anniversary of college starting, needless to say everyone made fun of her about that for ages.Anyway, the last month of college seems to have consisted of waking up soo early in the morning (7 o' clock), going to college, attending the first two classes, and then sitting around.. for the people from college who are reading this, i said SEEMS.i DO attend class, not all the time, but often enough, and for some reason my friends haven't stopped going on and on about how much i bunk....maybe it has something to do with them seeing me outside all the time, but i still attend! We have internals coming up really soon, and for some reason i cant even bring myself to plan to study, let alone actually picking up my books. This despite the fact that i really have no clue about what is happening in class, and i don't think ill learn anything by myself either (I'm n...

week 2
2007-09-15 09:25:00
Its two weeks (almost) into college, and I've really been having fun, well outside class at least.Met a pretty diverse group of friends outside my class.. mostly from electrical, mechanical, and the other comp science class, and in general there's at least something to do other than just go home after classes, and browse the net aimlessly (there is now a 1 -2 hour time slot for things that sound less jobless). In my class, as I mentioned before, there is now at least someone to talk to.Our classes themselves are really boring, maybe that's just because we've had such a long break, but it seems to take even more effort than before for me to focus in class for more than 10 minutes at a stretch. Our teachers are a funny bunch, some extremely bad, and some just mediocre (one or two are actually decent, so you can pay attention with a little effort in those classes). Most of them don't speak English too well, and that can be pretty annoying at times.Since this is the first time I'm...

A lot has happened in the 28 days since my last post (ive started studying math again, so i could do that calculation, lol)Anyway... ill try and make the updates sequentialFirst, we bought tons of stuff for the new house (well apartment actually), and we shifted... on the 29th, and i was busy with the unpacking, and other house related stuff for a few daysThe apartment is on the 9th floor (so it gets really cold and windy at times), and i really like it.... small problems are of course there, but i like it overall, pretty happy with the place itself, and as an added bonus, there's quite a bit of stuff really close by, which is not something i'd expected given what i'd heard about JP NagarMy college BMSCE (ie Bimanaya Mukundaraja Srinivasiah Coll ege of Engineering, or so i'm lead to believe) started on September 3rd.... and the first day of college was really bad... spent my time trying to count the number of normal people in class, haha...however, since then, college life has ex...

I've started posting really often again haven't I?I'm glad to announce that i can now chew rice :) barely.... but still, it is possible with some effort, so that means im on the way to recovery (no curd rice does not rank anywhere among my favourite foods on the off chance that you got that impression)Every time i look in the mirror i feel like i've suddenly taken on a few physical characteristics of Sharad Pawar (this is purely a comment on his appearance, not on his politics, or the way he runs any organizations that he happens to head), and i begin to wonder when he started growing hair. Then i shake myself a bit and realize.. i'm looking at ME, not the bloody TV.Thats how it is right now, apparently its gonna become even worse...For clarification, I havent put on any weight at all.... thats ONLY my face thats swollen upI've got another song, Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd, it doesn't describe my situation as well as the previous one i had posted, but oh well.... i do want...

Operation Extraction
2007-08-11 10:26:00
The tooth operation i was cribbing about earlier happened today... and so far its met with all the fears i had.The procedure itself took a lot less time (like 20 minutes or something) compared to the previous time i had it, which was a good thing. It always feels weird when you have a local anesthetic, you can see and hear everything thats happenings, but sometimes it feels like its all happening to someone else in some kind of super-realistic movie.. At times it does start to hurt, but mostly it was normal.I got home, ate ice cream (stocked up on that.... thank god), and then after a little while the anesthetic wore off... and it comes of slowly.. so first u start feeling a slightly warm sensation, then a pulse-like pain, then a throbbing pain, then a shooting pain, then just pure pain (ya i know its a small thing compared to what most people go through, but this is MY blog, i'll talk about it how i want).Right now it hurts, hurts like crap, and i realize why i was so fucking scar...

The ways of the wise
2007-08-08 08:26:00
Its been quite some time since my last post, and it is not, as the few of you who actually read this blog might think, because im in the "throes of depression".. those were the exact words used by someone i know, but i shall not embarrass the git by mentioning his/her nameAs usual, im complaining to everyone i talk to that im bored... and i AMA great sense of foreboding and true fear is in the air... not because i sense an earthquake or other such natural disaster(not that its impossible mind you), but because i have a tooth operation scheduled for saturday.I know some of you are laughing at me already.. but trust me, this hurts.. a LOT.For reasons as yet uncertain, the wisdom teeth on the lower half of my jaw came to an agreement at some point in the past that they will grow at a 90 degree angle to all the other teeth (that means they're perpendicular, for those of you who dropped math a little too early for your own good).. I believe this is because im exceptionally smart... so m...

Yes, i know its a lame Shakespeare quote, especially for a title, but wtv. This is the first time (in the last 8 yrs) im actually anticipating my birthday. Its fitting, in some sort of way at least, that its with great dread, and a sense of deep melancholy attached to it.Its really depressing to see someone who means a great deal in your life move out, which is exactly what is happening the day before my birthday... I guess there's some irony in that.. the day that i'm supposed to be celebrating the most.. my 18th birthday, is the day i feel (as of now at least) that theres absolutely nothing to celebrate.I know that its pretty selfish to make a big deal about this... i wanted to go out of town for college as well, and i've spent time thinking about the advantages of that, quite a few i must say... And its definitely the best available option as far as this person is concerned... unfortunately the only way its affecting me is negatively... no positive side of it comes to light at ...
new template!
2007-07-16 22:32:00
At long last, i've changed my template (this is the first change since i managed to pick one in the first place)It's kinda stolen of course... something called Magic Paper.. but hey, at least its not the tired old basic blogger template.. picked this since i thought it looked kinda similar, but still a little different, but ya, it seems popular, so i'm not guaranteeing something fresh or anything similar.I still need to figure out how to start off the post titles on a new line, it would be really nice if someone can help me with that, until then i guess if my titles have short words as the first word, then it'll look a little odd (as it does here)Please comment on the new (well sorta new at least) look, and let me know what needs change. Not things like "get plastic surgery done" though (you should politely say change your picture... or if u really perceive it to be an ugly mug, say remove the picture, it doesn't fit the style)

Kryptos
2007-07-15 11:04:00
My favorite Indian Metal Band : Kryptos, is coming out with a new album (supposed to be releasing tomorrow) called "The Ark Of Gemini"I'm really looking forward to this album, which is their sophomore effort... the first one being a brilliant record called A Spiral Ascent.Their style is along the lines of Dark Tranquillity (which is probably my favorite band overall) fused with an 80s trashy element to it.. Nevermore would be another comparison i would make.I loved the first album, and for those who think the indian rock scene is tired and uncreative, you should really give that a listen... an essential album for every indian metal head to OWN.My track picks from that album would be: Descension, Altered Destinies, Forgotten Land Of Ice and Clandestine Element, although the other songs are really good as well. So, even if u cant easily get your hands on a copy of the album, make sure to download a few of these (i found free, legal versions earlier, but i don't remember where.. will ...
Analyzing Change
2007-07-14 21:09:00
There are quite a few things that are changing right now for me... moving from school to college (as said earlier... im happy about that), moving to a new area, and someone really important moving out of townThere are some things you know right away that you're definitely not going to look forward to, and that the change can only be a bad thing, you decide that the second you hear about the possibility, and it only changes to make the foreboding more acute. However, i've noticed that many of the changes that you initially welcome, end up causing apprehension and worry a little later on as well. Like us moving... if you've read the previous post, you would see that its not something that i'm greatly happy about, but initially i was.. I thought it would be wonderful to go to a new place, meet new people, the roads were wider (as someone thoughtfully pointed out), and it seemed a lot more peaceful. I only saw the positives at first, and right now i'm mainly seeing the negatives.I ...

Cross Country Move
2007-07-10 11:42:00
We're moving... far far far awayOk, ill cut out the melodrama, basically we're moving to JP Nagar.. (6th phase)I currently live in RT Nagar, and for those who aren't familiar with Bangalore, the two areas are pretty much diametrically opposite on the map.All the years that i've stayed in bangalore have been on this side of town (RT Nagar is in the north), and although i have a reasonable idea of quite a few places in the city, the part of town we're moving to is completely alien to me.I know some people who live in that area.. unfortunately i dont know any of them well, so thats as good as there not being anyone. Most of the people i hang out with live in this general area (which is like a 6 km radius), and i have to face the prospect of long, arduous commutes on a two wheeler becoming commonplace, well at least for a whileOf course i make it sound really horrible, well its going to be a LOT closer to college, so that means i wont have to travel 15 or 16 km, twice a day, six day...

More holidays
2007-07-10 11:23:00
I've figured out that college is probably going to be postponed by quite a bit...Initially we were told that it would start on the 13th of August, but now, due to idiotic changes in the counselling schedule (which ends on the 8th of September), Engineering colleges can't start before September. Now this means i have about 2 months of holidays left, unfortunately, by my calculations i'll have about a month where there wont be anyone who's freeThose who are doing medicine (ok, the one who's doing medicine is more accurate) will start in august, and people who aren't doing engineering, and those who are older than me will ALL be busy by mid august.Anyway, i'm already starting to think up of all the stuff i can do, but that somehow is harder than it should be.Perhaps i should try to make some more headway with the bunch of books i bought (been stuck on the same book for quite some time now), or start going to the gym more regularly... maybe even get back to playing the guitar, and ...

When advice becomes a vice
2007-06-30 20:17:00
Talk of college reminds me of a few comments i saw on george's blog .... on this post.Ok now i already feel kinda stupid for leading my limited readership to a much better written blog, but i shall pretend, as most of the world does, that i dont recognize my incompetence (on a relative scale)His post said that he was getting a hard time from his family for choosing to do design, something they saw as being out of the mainstream.Well.. his dilemma isnt nearly as uncommon as one might think... i was just thinking about it, and everyone i know has gotten lectures from some person or the other about how what they chose to study (and hopefully pursue later on as well) isn't a good idea... and that they should look at some other field.Whether its architecture, or medicine, or environmental science, discouragement seems to be waiting to pour out from someone or the otherAs i mentioned before, i want to do computer science, and have wanted to for a while now... and its a decision thats my...

My "counselling" for COMEDK was on the 27th.. counselling in quotes because there is really no counselling involved.. it should be called course selection or something instead.Anyway, my first choice was computer science in RVCE... and i was led to believe that i had a reasonable chance at it, of course, i internally converted that to having a good chance. Unfortunately, all available seats in that course, in that college were taken well before i had a chance to exercise my option (the seats were gone by 500, my rank was 1171)I did manage to score my second choice however...which was computer science in BMS (which is also one of the best colleges in the city), and although i was initially quite disappointed at not getting RVCE, i think i've started rationalizing it subconsciously, and now im happy with what i got.. and i can do the course i was interested in, something that i thought was doubtful about 3 months ago... although i have a feeling all this happiness will go away when t...
