Vacation Time
2007-07-28 04:04:00
We're off for a little family R&R. We'll be soaking up the sun at Myrtle Beach for a week. Then, we're going to go to Carowinds for two days. By the time we get back the boys will only have two weeks until school starts. Hard to believe! Anyway, check back around Aug. 9th for a post telling you all about the fun we had.

It's just not been my day!
2007-07-25 23:26:00
They boys and I thought we'd have lunch with Darrin today. We went and picked him up at work and, wanting something fast, headed for T*co B*ll. We waited quite a long time for our food which is unusual. I mean, that's why it's called fast food, right? We finally got it and sat down. The boys didn't get a toy in their kid's meal. Oh, the injustice. That problem was quickly resolved. Then, Payton dropped his cup, which was full, and his drink went everywhere. After cleaning that mess all up I sat back down to eat my lunch. As I was cutting my "mexican pizza" a piece flew off of the the cardboard plate and landed right on my shirt, my white shirt. I reached for my purse and dug out my Tide stain stick. As I was cleaning my shirt the boys were singing "Na-na-na-na...na-na-na-na"..... you know, the Kelly Ripa commercial. I was about half way finished when.........the tip of the stain stick broke off! Okay, I'll admit it was kind of funny and Darrin had no problem laug...

Tater's Tooth
2007-07-24 21:46:00
Tater Tot did not have the best day yesterday. He had to go see the dentist. He was supposed to be getting a crown and was all prepared for it. He hopped right up in the chair, laid back and settled in to watch Shrek (the movie) on the ceiling mounted TV. They placed the little thingy over his nose that would supply him with his "happy gas." After a few minutes passed he was the funniest little thing. He was just acting plum silly. The dentist then came in and Tater could have cared less at this point. He was drifting in happy land watching a movie. The dentist gave him a numbing shot, which he didn't even feel of course, and began to work. It wasn't long until he looked up and with disappointment and told me the tooth would just have to be pulled. Oh I so hated to hear that for Tater's sake. Can you believe that he hasn't lost any baby teeth yet? He'll be 7 in a few months and, up until yesterday, still had them all. Anyway, he got the tooth out but we were unable to keep it a...
VBS = FUN
2007-07-21 23:32:00
This afternoon wrapped up the kid's Vacation Bible School. They been going all week and have had a blast. They each took a friend with them this year which doubled the fun. Darrin and I attended their commencement ceremony where they each received a certificate of participation. They it was time to head outside for some fun. This years' VBS theme was "Game Day Central" and the church went all out to carry out that theme. We munched on hot dogs, pop and Cracker Jacks. Then, it was time to dedicate the "new" play ground. The Greenvile Drive donated their old (all of 1 year old) play structure to the church. Some of the Drive officials, players and even Reedy Rip It were on hand to help with the dedication. The kids spent the rest of the day dunking their teachers in the dunk tank, playing basketball, volleyball and so on. As always, it was another successful VBS and best of all, there were 7 decisions for Christ made! Go Team Jesus!! Tater Tot getting his Drive baseall signed Tater...

This is what summer's all about
2007-07-21 18:55:00
I LOVE summer! Especially summer's in the south. For me, it's one of God's better creations. Not only do I love the season but all the trimming that go along with it: vacation, sunny days, trees full of leaves, flowers in bloom, wind chimes playing a melody, birds singing, fireworks.......the list could go on and on. One of the best places to enjoy all of trappings of summer is right in our back yard, off of our living room. When we bought our house three years ago, it came with a fairly large screened in porch attached. Okay, we thought, we'll take it since it's there. We'd never had the luxury of owning a home before that also came equipped with a screened in porch. Therefore, we didn't know that value of them. Oh, they are glorious. Right now as I am typing this I am sitting at my patio table on the screened in porch. There is a gentle breeze, the ceiling fan is whirling above me, I am sipping on a cold glass of sweet tea, I hear the bird's songs and my children playing i...

2007-07-20 00:28:00
The jurors in the Michelle Michael case are still deliberating. The attorney gave their closing arguments yesterday. The jury began their deliberations yesterday afternoon. Please keep the Michael family in your prayers as well as Shelly (Michelle) and her family. And, thanks to my friend who is up there (in West Virginia) in the thick of things for keeping me updated. Stay tuned.........It's only been a couple hours since I typed the above. Now the jury has stopped deliberations for the day. They will resume on Friday. Below is an excerpt from WV Metro News website. If you visit the link, it may no longer show this exact article. They update frequently. The jury will return to deliberations Friday and try to reach a decision about the fate of Michelle Michael. Should I be worried?
2007-07-19 21:12:00
Do you think I should start worrying? Tater Tot has become quite the chameleon. Just a few days ago he was "Army Tater."Yesterday he was "Homey Tater."And today he is "Cool Tater." (that's one of his "cool" friends on the right)He went ahead and warned me.........tomorrow he will be "Cute Tater." Now, that's the Tater I like! He says it will be "cute Tater day" for Britney (a 16 year old girl in our neighborhood who he has a huge crush on). I can only imagine what the following days will hold. Calgon take me away.

Hyperpigmen what?
2007-07-19 04:28:00
I've been diagnosed with hyperpigmentation. What? Never heard of it? Neither had I, until this past Monday. A few months back I started getting a dark spot on my upper lip and one on my forehead. They look like this. Come to find out, it's hyperpigmentation. Of all things in my body to be in "hyper" mode. Why couldn't I have hyper hair......growing super fast? Or what about hyper nails? Then I wouldn't have to pay for nails. Or better still, I wouldn't mind having the hyper metabolism of my youth. Oh no.....the pigment in my skin has to get all hyper and funky. The dermatologist said it is most likely due to a combination of hormonal changes and sun exposure. The treatment to get rid of it is L--O--N--G, 3 - 6 months. She prescribed a $125 tube of prescription bleaching cream. "Just rub a pea size amount on you entire face twice a day and that's it", the dermatologist said. That's not all there is too it. Makeup will not conceal the dark places. Therefore, it looks like I hav...

2007-07-18 23:27:00
Shelly's fate is now in the hands of the jury. Both sides have given their closing arguments. All anyone can do now is.........wait. I just pray that that wait won't be too long. Jim died almost 2 years ago. All those involved have waited long enough. You can read the details be reading my post entitled "Michelle Michael trial begins." HELP.....blogging......can't......stop.......
2007-07-18 04:24:00
Help.........I'm blogging.............and I can't............stop!!!!! I've taken full advantage of the opportunity to catch up on my blog posting today. It seems like we've been so busy lately that I just haven't had time to post as things happen. I hope today's plethora of posts will tide you all over until the next blogorama day.One major reason I've not had tons of time to post lately is because I've been devoting the majority of my blogging time to my other blog: ADHD & LD Resource Blog. I created this blog a little less than two years ago. Our oldest son, who I refer to as "Bubby" on this blog, has ADHD and three learning disabilities. He was diagnosed with both 3 years ago. Since that time I have been researching, reading, and trying to learn as much as I possible can about them. I decided that I wanted to share the wealth of information that I was finding with others. That is when the ADHD & LD Blog was born. At first I only posted periodically. However, in the p...

Another project complete!
2007-07-18 04:12:00
BeforeAfter We also purchased these wicker cubes on clearance and pained them hunter green to match our table and chairs. I also repainted the planter holder on the wall to match. Then, Tater Tot picked out new pots and flowers for it. Look hard to see the matching seat cushions.I checked another thing off of my "To Do" list recently. Darrin's parents gave us a wicker sofa and rocker last year. It was in great shape but I've wanted to recover the cushions to something more our taste. Then, we decided not only to recover the cushions, but to also paint both pieces. The project just took off from there. We did both of those things and I also recovered the cushions in the chairs at the table to match. It was such a fun and rewarding project. I could have never completed it without my neighbor generously loaning me her sewing machine. Can you believe I've already told Santa that I want one of my very own in a few months? It was just so relaxing and.......fun! We so enjoy spending tim...

My little ARMY man
2007-07-18 01:30:00
Tater Tot and his neighborhood friend went on an "army adventure" today. I'm not really quite sure what that consisted of, but they sure looked ready for it. Tater said they couldn't smile in the pictures because "army men don't smile." Their "home base" was the tree in our front yard. That sure made it convenient for General Mom to keep a close, yet discreet eye on them.

Flowers for Mama...
2007-07-18 01:17:00
Bubby did the sweetest thing today! He came in the front door holding his hand behind his back. What could he possibly have I wondered. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. He handed me a colorful bouquet of day lilies. He smiled and said, "These are for you mama." I bent down (not far because he's so dad gum tall) and gave him a peck on the cheek. I asked where in the world he found such beautiful flowers. He said, "Aw the ladies yard up the street" and bolted back out the door. Well, "Lady" if you're reading this....I'm sorry. Just know that they were picked with love, much appreciated and placed directly in water.

Fatz & a little putt putt
2007-07-18 01:11:00
A few nights ago we took our neighbor with us to enjoy one of our favorite restaurants, Fatz Cafe. After a great meal, we headed on over to Frankie's Fun Park for 18 holes of putt putt golf. From what I hear, our neighbor, Rick, won! They were kind enough to let me go next door to Garden Ridge for a little "girl time" while they golfed. Boy, I never knew a round of putt putt could go so quickly. My phone rang a mere 45 minutes after I had dropped them off. They were finished! After paying for my goodies, I picked them up and off we went for a little dessert. Of course that meant Chili's for the best dessert ever....Molten Chocolate Cake. Then, with full bellies we headed for home. After all, it was after 10:00 p.m. and Tater Tot was tuckered out.

A few "Taterisms" to brighten your day
2007-07-12 17:58:00
It's been a while since I've shared any of Tater Tot's cute sayings or "Taterisms" as we like to call them. So, here you go.....these just happen to focus on his fascination with heaven lately.Who created God?Are there bike ramps in heaven?Do you still have birthdays in heaven? You know the "streets of gold?" Well, I'm going to ask God if I can have a little piece of the gold. How old are you when you die? Will Bo and Chasie (our dogs) go to heaven? Is that where Bam Bam (our first dog who died two years ago) is now?Is he running and happy?I bet he sleeps with Papaw Otis (my grandfather who passed away in May 2005) at night.I love the way a child's mind works.

Bubby's day at the doctor
2007-07-11 23:29:00
Today was Bubby 's 10 year old well child check with his pediatrician. All went well, thankfully. He amazed both the nurse and doctor though. He has grown 5" since his last visit in December. He has also gained 8 pounds since then. He is now 4' 11" and 88 pounds. That puts him in the 86th percentile in height and 83rd in weight. That just seems totally amazing to me. Five inches in seven months? Wow! His doctor, like the two before her, informed me that once he's finished growing he should be well over 6' tall. I explained that so are his uncle and grandfather (on my side). She told Garrett...."you're going to be a giant!" Then, Payton chimed in and said, "and I'm going to be the shrimp!" Unbeknownst to me he also had to get a shot today. I'm really glad he didn't know beforehand though. That way he didn't have time to fret over it. It was his first hepatitis A shot. He'll get his second one in a few months. The funniest part of the visit was seeing the look on Bubby's fac...

Ratatouille Time
2007-07-11 23:21:00
This past Sunday, while Darrin was at work, I took the boys to see Ratatouille . It was actually a pretty cute movie. As always though, Garrett sat spell bound through the entire movie and Payton only lasted about half way through. Once he was full of popcorn and pop he was ready to go! The movie is set in Paris, France. And, in the movie they do as lots of Parisians do and drank wine. I wasn't too pleased with that but I could live with it. Then, later in the movie, the mean chef treats the new chef want-to-be to glass after glass of wine until he is pretty much drunk and willing to tell him what he wants to hear. Now, tell me why? Why do they have to put something like that in a children's movie? It amazes what passes by the sensors and makes it onto movies screens nationwide for our youth to see. I probably won't be buying this movie when it comes out on DVD for that very reason. Of course I don't even think the the boys picked up on it, but still!

Happy belated 4th!
2007-07-11 23:12:00
I know.......I'm a little late posting this, but I still wanted to share. Darrin had to work on July 4th of course. But, at least they closed at 5:00 instead of their normal 6:00! We had a nice family dinner and then made our annual trek down to watch the fireworks. They were awesome as usual. They are sponsored by a church close to downtown. It was twenty minutes of non-stop fireworks action. The boys took turns standing up through the sun roof in my MDX to get a "better view." To see more pictures go to flickr (you'll see a couple from last year too).

Tater Tot's room makeover
2007-07-11 20:51:00
Before After Daddy accidentally broke the mirror Showing off his new sports decor While the boys were away last month I also finished Tater 's room up. He has had his dresser and chest for a few years. I actually purchased them on eBay for next to nothing. The seller just happened to live only 20 minutes from us. They were dark wood and dated. I painted them and they're good as new. He's been needing a new bed for a while so we bought one from an individual. I painted it too of course, to match the rest of his furniture. We got him new wall decor too. He only had posters and such up on his walls before. He was so surprised when he returned home. He's quite the proud little man and is actually keeping it quite clean now. Yeah! P.S. -- If Bubby's room is every clean enough I'll post pictures of it as well. We did his room two years ago and he's still happy with it. He's lucky enough to have his dad's old bedroom suite. It may be 37+ years old, but it's good stuff I tell ya. ...

Bedroom Makeover
2007-07-11 19:41:00
(Here's the new curtain rods. I didn't have them up yet in the other pics)While the boys were out of town a few weeks ago, at the grandparent's houses, I decided to redecorate our master bedroom. We've had the furniture for eight years or so and we were beginning to tire of it. It was light pine which is not our favorite. That's what happens when you buy something just because it's a good price! However, Hubby painted it black and I love it! Then it was my turn to do the fun part.....shop. New comforter, linens, window treatments & hardware, wall hangings... you name it. I'm quite pleased with the way it all turned out. By the way, see the bench at the foot of the bed. It is actually older than I am. It used to belong to my parents (when they were still married) many moons ago. We had it recovered as the blue velvety fabric just wasn't our taste. Anyway, just thought I'd share. Smiles!

Michelle Michael trial begins
2007-07-06 18:20:00
If you've been reading my blog for a while you may remember this post about a former friend of mine, Michelle "Shelly" Michael , who has been charged with murdering her husband. Well, her trial finally began yesterday, July 5th. It has been almost two years since her husband, Jim, was given a paralyzing drug and then perished while his home burned around him. I still find it unimaginable that Shelly could do such an inhumane thing. While I have not seen all of the evidence of course, what I have been reading in the paper certainly points directly to her as the culprit. The couple have four children. Jim had a son and a daughter from a previous marriage and Shelly has the same. Please keep them and the rest of Jim's family in your prayers. I can only imagine how difficult it is going to be for his family to sit through countless hours of detail testimony. I firmly believe that justice will indeed prevail.

Tater's new digs.......
2007-06-27 23:23:00
While Tater was visiting Gee & Paw's house in WV, I painted his bed to match the rest of his furniture. We purchased the bed used. It's in great shape and is very sturdy, it was just very ugly! Nothing a can of paint couldn't fix though. Take a look.... Before After four coats of paintHe likes the cubbies too He loves the drawers under his bed! The wall decor is all new too! (The thing in the middle at the bottom is a really cute puzzle that is his name...sorry blacked that one out. Can't be too careful!) We're back home!
2007-06-26 19:10:00
The boys and I made it home yesterday evening around 7:00. A wonderful thunderstorm greeted us about 20 miles east and ushered us all the way back into town. They were so happy to see their daddy and Bo & Chasie. Tater Tot just walked around looking at everything like he'd been away for years instead of 2 1/2 weeks. We had a nice family dinner at Cracker Barrel and then came home and crashed in front of the TV to watch "Supernanny." Darrin had golfed in a golf tournament all day and we had driven 6+ hours, so we were all pretty tired. It's great to be back home, in my own bed, with my family again! I have lots of unpacking to do so for a few pictures from our trip go to flickr. I'll post more about the trip later.

Mini-vacation....
2007-06-23 03:02:00
Just wanted to let you know that I'll be on a little mini-vacation for the next week or so. Me and my two boys are spending time with family in West Virginia right now. So, check back around the end of the month for more new posts! However, in the meantime, I have installed a nice little tool called "Snap Shots" that enhances links with visual previews of the destination site, interactive excerpts of Wikipedia articles, MySpace profiles, and Amazon products, display inline videos, RSS, photos, and more. This feature can bring you the information you need without having to even leave the blog. It will also let you look ahead before deciding if you want to follow a link or not. Just place your mouse pointer over the snap shots icon located beside an underlined link, and you'll see the preview window. If you decide that you do not like this new feature, just click the "options" icon in the upper right corner of the snap shot and opt-out.

THE best thing happened yesterday......
2007-06-13 13:24:00
Hubby and I went to W*lmart yesterday to pick up a few items. As we were checking out I went to the Coke cooler to grab a bottle as I was really thirsty. There, in the cooler, all by itself was a single bottle of Vanilla Coke! Now, in case you don't remember this post, just let me tell you.......hubby and I are huge Vanilla Coke fans. When they discontinued production in late 2005, we thought we'd just die. Well, we didn't, but it's been really hard living with out it. Anyway, I paid for the Coke (at my other items of course) and headed straight over to hubby. He wasn't with me when I found my little treasure. I told him to close his eyes and take a drink. He was a little skeptical, but knows I'm a little trustworthy. He slowly put his lips to the bottle, took a drink, swallowed and said, "NO WAY!" Yes way, baby! We savored every last drop of it. It lasted us well over an hour. We thought maybe it was just a fluke...probably left over from way back when. Just to make sure I di...
