Gearing up for a big weekend
2007-03-22 02:43:00 Our first born is getting ready to turn 10 years old in a few day. That is hard to believe. To celebrate we're having a house full! Darrin's parents and grandmother arrived this evening. His brother will join us Friday. Then, my mom and step-dad will complete the company on Saturday morning. Bubby has invited a few of his friends to go to Monkey Joe's for 1 1/2 hours of play. Then we'll all return to our house for cake and ice cream. He's so very excited to have everyone here for his special. I had a huge list of things to get done on Monday to get ready. Want to know how many of them I actually got to? None. Tater Tot woke up at 6:00 a.m. complaining of a sore throat. He quickly got worse so a trip to the pediatrician was in order. The diagnosis? A double ear infection. He was in terrible pain. I was having to alternate Motrin and Tylenol every three hours to control the pain. Of course the doctor prescribed antibiotics and gave us some samples of ear numbing drops. ... I'm blessed with the best in-laws!
2007-03-14 21:40:00 There have been quite a few things in my life that haven't gone as planned. Things that I had absolutely no control over that adversely affected me. However, there is one thing that went perfectly right! The Lord saw fit to give me the best in-laws ever. They have been a part of my life for 16 years now. They truly are a set of second parents. Actually, my father-in-law is more like a father. He is an absolute blessing. Just before writing this post I called to ask my m-i-l a quick question. She wasn't home so he and I chatted for 30 minutes. Yes, 30 minutes. How many of you have done that with your f-i-l lately? This past Valentine's day I even received a card just from him. The front of it said, To my Daughter. And yes, it made me cry. If you have an amazing f-i-l like mine, be thankful...and let him know you are thankful. If you don't, pray...God still works miracles. Bonding at the Arenacross Series
2007-03-14 04:39:00 Last Saturday night we took the boys to see the Toyota Areanacross Series downtown. I was really reluctant to go. I thought it would be a wonderful bonding experience for daddy and the boys. But, they thought I should tag along and experience the excitement for myself. So, I spent 2 1/2 hours surrounded by thousands of men and boys who were totally in their element. Dirt, motorcycles, speed, jumps....yeah I could see why they were all so excited. But, it just didn't do a thing for me. However, I did delight in watching Tater Tot. After all, if you'll remember he was a dirt bike rider for Halloween last year. This is his life ambition after all. So, needless to say, he could not have been happier. He planned for this event big time. He wore his "Fox" motorcycle shirt, had me fix his hair into a mohawk and even took his dirt bike helmet with him to get it signed. He's a smart kid. Garrett wasn't all that impressed. He was ready to go after about 15 minutes. He said, "at least I'l... More About: Bond , Cross , Across , Arena

There are 10 of me in the U.S.
2007-03-07 20:20:00 HowManyOfMe.comThere are:10people with my namein the U.S.A.How many have your name?I saw a link to this silly little site on my cousin's blog so of course I clicked on it. I found out some pretty interested little tidbits:There are 142,485 people in the U.S. with the first name Shane. 97.89% of people with the first name Shane are male. I suppose I am pretty unique since only ten other people in the United States share my exact name (first and last name). However, I have never really been a big fan of my name. I've often questioned my mother about her choice. How was it possible that she looked at her newborn daughter and thought the name "Shane" was appropriate? Shane? That's a western movie about a cowboy for Pete's sake! And, to make matters worse, it isn't even my first name. My first name is quite feminine and would have worked just fine. But oh no, she added the ultra male name to it and then chose to call me that as opposed to my first name. I do like my name better now ... More About: Here , The U

Upward Basketball Banquet
2007-03-04 18:41:00 Last night we attended the boys Upward basketball banquet. It's always such a nice evening. Nicely decorated, scrumptious spaghetti, a magician, and then the awards. The boys look forward to it and dread it at the same time. They always hate to see the season come to an end. Basket ball is really the only sport Bubby is interested in so he has to wait another year to play. Tater, on the other hand, will start soccer in a few weeks. Each player was presented with a really nice Upward duffel bag. Of course for the third year in a row mommy and daddy provided trophies for our boys. Hubby says I'm spoiling them, but what kid doesn't want a trophy at the end of the season? We took them out to Chili's after the banquet to get their favorite dessert (molten chocolate cake). Hubby had them go wash up before eating and when they returned their trophies were on the table waiting for them. They were happy, we were happy, it was a good night. More About: War , Ward , Ball

What are the people at Mattel thinking?
2007-03-01 15:01:00 This morning while watching Spongebob Squarepants with Tater Tot, we saw a commercial for the above item. After it was over he looked at me and said, "Why would a girl want THAT?" Good question! Here are a few of it's features:Tanner (the dog) is soft and fuzzy and her mouth, ears, head and tail really move You can open Tanner's mouth and feed her dog biscuits Comes with dog bone and chew toy that Tanner can hold in her mouth When Tanner has to go to the bathroom Barbie cleans up with the magnetic scooper Okay, now read that last "feature" again. Yes, Barbie can lift his tail and clean up after him with the included magnetic scooper! What little girl is going to want to do that? I mean when I was six years old I always thought to myself.....I've got Barbie, Ken, the dream house, pool, corvette...they're just not enough. I want a pooping puppy! What were the people at Matt el thinking? They're nuts! More About: People , Hat , Think
"To Iraq and Back"
2007-02-28 17:19:00 Hubby and I watched the Bob Woodruff special on abc last night, To Iraq and Back . To say the least it was eye opening. The trauma that he endured and miraculously recovered from is astonishing. However, it was the truth that he uncovered about the number of soldiers that are returning from the war who have brain injuries or are otherwise maimed that moved me the most. According to his report, the US government has issued a gag order for journalists about this very subject. They do not want the US people to know the staggering numbers of soldiers who are returning with these injuries. He also shed light on the fact that many of these soldiers will face substandard care from their local VA hospitals once they return to their homes. The hospitals are simply not equipped or staffed appropriately to deal with the brain injuries that these soldiers have. I just sat in awe as I watched this. How can our government continue to send our sons and brothers to fight in a war that has gone on f...
Tater Tot is back on his feet
2007-02-27 02:11:00 It was about 5:00 a.m Sunday morning when little Tater Tot crawled in bed with me and hubby. Every square inch of his body was hot. A quick check of his temperature showed that it was exactly 102.5 degrees. I gave him a dose of Motrin and it came down quickly. However, the normally extremely active little six year old spent the entire day laying on the couch in his pajamas. The fever continued to spike each time the medicine wore off until it finally broke this afternoon. Yesterday when I told him he wouldn't be able to go to school today he said, "I know this is going to sound strange, but I actually want to go to school tomorrow because I kind of like school now." Well, that was music to my ears. But, he had to stay home today anyway. We've watched a LOT of Sponge Bob, played a few games, colored and snuggled the past two days. No mother likes to see her children sick, but I must admit, I did like taking care of my little Tater. The extra lovin' was an added bonus too! More About: Back , Feet
Multicultural Day at the boys' school
2007-02-24 05:15:00 Konichiwa! I had the privileged of spending the entire day at the boys' school today. I walked in with them this morning and didn't leave until they did this afternoon. Boy, it's been a while since I've done that! The reason for my "day of school" was to volunteer for multicultural day. I spent the first half of the day in Tater Tot's kindergarten class. All five of the kindergarten classes spent the morning rotating between classrooms. They learned about a different aspect of Japan in each room. Our role was to provide each class with a taste of Japan... sticky rice. (I, and five other moms, prepared the rice and brought it to school with us.) The children were even provided with chop sticks! In the other classrooms they made a Japanese flag, got to try on a real kimono and other activities. Tater Tot (far left) and friendsAfter lunch, I said "sainara" to Japan and headed to the third grade. Once there, it was my job to travel with the students from classroom to classroom. The... How does a telephone work? Power lines give it power.3. When you play a game at an arcade, what happens to the coin you use to start the game? It goes in with all the other ones.4. How does milk stay cold? Because the frig is cold5. What makes the car move? Gas6. How does a radio work? With wires Good answers, Tater Tot! More About: Sunday
Vanilla Coke Campaign
2005-11-05 02:11:00 Oh my gosh... I just found out that the Coca-Cola Company announced today (Nov. 4) that they will discontinue the production of Vanilla Coke by the end of 2005!! My husband and I have been devout Vanilla Coke drinkers since it was introduced in April 2002. What in the world will hubby and I do without our daily doses of VC? We will be unable to function and that's all there is to it. I have already penned my letter to them practically begging them to reconsider their decision. I implore you to please join our letter writing campaign to hopefully change the minds of the executives who have made this unbelievable decision. Let me thank you in advance in case you do decide to help us with this matter. Here's the address you'll need to send your letter to:Coca-Cola Company Vanilla Coke Campaign P.O. Box 1734Atlanta, GA 30301 For now, I suppose I'll hoard up all the VC I can possibly find and then ration it until this passes and VC production is back to normal. More About: Misc , Shane

A Big Day in the Life of Tater Tot
2005-10-30 22:56:00 Today was quite a day for Tater . It was time for a new pair of tennis shoes. His size 12 Reeboks just couldn't last another day. Not only had he worn them out, they were too small. Since he's now five, I decided to let him pick out the new shoes all by himself. We were are "Shoe Carnival" for at least 15 minutes before he finally decided on the perfect pair. He had a smile bigger than ever when he finally found them. As it turns out, he chose a pair of size 13 Nike high tops. His very first pair of high tops! Since dad was at work when we bought them, he insisted on going straight there to show him. He was so proud. He showed him several times how fast they made him run. Now he's super excited about Upward Basketball starting. According to him, he's going to "run faster and jump higher than everybody else" all because of these shoes. Do you think advertising has influenced him very much? Who knows, maybe he'll be the next Michael Jordan. Then, he can pay me back for those shoes. More About: Life , Day In The Life
That's our Bo!
2005-10-30 00:10:00 I just love this picture. I took it on our way back from WV last week. He likes to ride in the back of our SUV on trips. He sleeps for a while and then jumps up on the luggage to get a better few for a bit. He's only been in our lives for 9 months now, but we'd be lost without him. He follows me around from room to room and can't wait for me to sit still long enough to get some lovin'. Of course he sleep with hubby and I too. We wouldn't have it any other way. He's even learned his nickname...Bozie. He answers to both. Now is that smart pup or what? His official name is "Little Bit Bogart"...."Bo" for short. He'll be celebrating his first birthday on January 5th, 2006. Mine and Darrin's birthdays are also in January. Isn't that just so sweet? More About: Hat , That
It's Pumpkin Pickin' Time
2005-10-29 16:41:00 Friday, 10/28/05, Tater Tot's preschool took a field trip to Fisher's Orchard. Luckily, the parents got to share this fun time with them. We went on a hayride through the orchard to look for scarecrows and Johnny Appleseed. Then, we learned how farmers contribute to our society (okay, 4 & 5 year olds weren't really too interested in that part). But, they did enjoy the petting zoo and the maze they had to find their way through. After all that we got to pick our own pumpkin in the pumpkin patch and fill a bag will apples. To top off the morning they had cupcakes and such on the picnic tables out side. Tater really enjoyed the day, even if it was a bit nippy. Mommy had a pretty good time too.You can see more pictures from this adventure at flickr.com. It's Party Time!
2005-10-29 16:21:00 Last night (10/28/05) we hosted a Halloween party for Bubby (that's him in the picture to the left). He invited friends from his class and the neighborhood. Thirteen (pretty cool number, huh?) kids showed up and a good time was had by all.We started things off with a little game of "pass the spider" and then moved on to Halloween charades. Then, they munched on pizza, chips, popcorn and cookies. They were really intrigued by the "witches brew" they drank. I bought a black cauldron, put orange pop in it and floated an ice hand in it to keep it cold. (Just fill a plastic glove with water, freeze, peel of the glove and you have a perfectly frozen hand). While they ate they watched "Scary Godmother" on DVD.By this time they were all ready for a little dancing...to Halloween music of course. It was so cute watching 8 and 9 year olds dance. They were getting' jiggy with it, that's for sure. The grand finale was a trip to the "doctor's lab." Hubby was dressed as a doctor with blood spat... More About: Party , Time , Part
