Photo Hunters - Two
2007-08-17 12:36:00
Right now I feel… Creative Hot on the heels of my job hunting post, here’s the hunt I’ve kept waiting for all week, once again! I guess this does show that I have too much time on my hands, eh? Oh well… This week’s Photo Hunt ers theme is Two . I didn’t have to think too long about a connection between “Two” and “Gozo”: Most Gozitan churches (well, churches all over the Maltese islands, really) have two belltowers, but more importantly, they boast of two clocks! One of them is working properly (supposedly, anyway!!) while the other is showing a wrong time with the purpose of confusing the devil! Having lived for about 17 years not more than a hundred metres from Gharb’s Parish Church, I was quite surprised to find out this week that its second clockface doesn’t even show a time!! Gozo - Two… church clocks (click on images to enlarge)   I don’t think this post would be complete without givin...
Job hunting
2007-08-17 12:25:00
Right now I feel… DeterminedA lot of thinking and soul searching has led me to the conclusion that I must get a regular job. There is more than one reason. Finances… let’s not go there. But I feel I have been living in this cocoon of mine for long enough. Too long, actually. Did I mention I’m talking to myself? I probably did. It could be hilarious - sometimes I actually make myself laugh! - but it’s also kinda tragic. I’m really missing talking to people face to face on a daily basis - even if I’m basically a person who is perfectly comfortable with spending time alone. I’ve had the half-baked idea of finding some part-time employment for a long time. But that’s exactly what it was: half-baked. I did pay the ETC (employment agency) a visit some time last year, but that was all I expended in terms of effort. I believe it’s time for me to change things before I grow roots in my desk chair. Having brooded over the subject fo...

A bit of life outside the ‘net!
2007-08-16 20:09:00
I took a day off the internet as I got totally absorbed by False Memory, which is an older thriller (which I hadn’t read yet) by one of my favourites, Dean Koontz. I’m not completely through yet, but today I sort of forced myself to put it down; it really is pulse-accelerating stuff and I just couldn’t take any more! I have no doubt that I’ll finish it tonight, though. Apart from submerging myself into reading, I even ventured out of the house today, as it was hubby’s day off. Well, it wasn’t really a wise thing to do in this humid heat. But I really wanted to see Matt’s photos, and I’m glad I did because they are worth seeing! Unfortunately the gallery is rather small; I’d have loved to see more of his pictures. The photos shown are being rotated though, so during several visits you’ll be able to see quite a lot of different ones. If you happen to be in Victoria, do have a look at the Wonderful Life exhibition! Address:...
Fireworks revisited
2007-08-14 00:00:00
Right now I feel… AlarmedSomewhere out there - I forgot where and I’m too lazy to look it up - is a blog with the title “I’m so blogging this.” I’d be surprised if there’s only one though - because that is a common phrase muttered by hardened and not-so-hardened bloggers vis-à-vis happenings in ...

2007-08-14 00:00:00
Right now I feel… PensiveHere I am, day in day out, moaning and grumbling about stuff that makes my life oh so unbearable. But every once in a while comes along the opportunity to put it all into its proper perspective again, in the sense of stripping those “problems” of their perceived importance. My ...

A nostalgic Saturday night
2007-08-12 00:00:00
Right now I feel… RecuperatingThe feast this weekend is the one of San Lawrenz, with its fireworks being let off practically in our backyard (a few hundred metres behind it). Due to the building frenzy I ranted about a couple of days ago, the view isn’t what it used to be - we ...

The busiest weekend of the year…
2007-08-11 00:00:00
Right now I feel… Just fine…is here! Sometimes I wonder whether Gozo is actually lying lower in August than at other times, with all these people on board. Santa Maria (15th August - arguably the most important public holiday in the Maltese islands) is the milestone of summer; it’s a bit like half-time in ...

Not in my backyard (…and I mean it!!)
2007-08-10 00:00:00
Right now I feel… AngryI’ve had this post rant in mind for a couple of weeks, but I always postponed it because it wasn’t possible to write quickly, “in passing.” This letter to the editor in today’s Times, titled “Enough of dust and dirt”, helped me get into the right state of mind though! ...

2007-08-08 00:00:00
Right now I feel… EsctaticWere you wondering where I was? The last couple of days have been a bit of a rollercoaster as I slid from total inertia into a full program all around. I was just applying the finishing touches to my photo article (Labro exhibition) for the Independent, when this e-mail landed ...

George & Helen Grech’s Family Reunion in Gozo
2007-08-06 00:00:00
Wow… this family reunion would almost deserve a mentioned in the “What’s On” section! To start with, this was an awesome idea: George Grech came over all the way from Melbourne, Australia, with his wife Helen and his 5 kids (all adults), to see all his relatives here in Gozo. I haven’t quite figured out ...

2007-08-06 00:00:00
Right now I feel… CoolTo chase me out of bed before 7 on a Sunday morning is the favourite joke my bio clock keeps playing on me - and I didn’t even get to sleep early last night! It was the opening night of Raphael Labro’s Rebirth exhibition, where I took photos for a ...

Right now I feel… SurprisedHmmm. Before telling you about Rih Isfel, I must tell you that I don’t really know what to say about the response to yesterday’s post. It was overwhelming! A big thank-you to all who commented!! I’m especially happy about the couple of Australian - presumably emigrated - readers I know ...

Photo Hunters - Funky
2007-08-04 00:00:00
Right now I feel… Creative Funky . Hm. A word I’ve heard and read - but never used. The first time I consciously heard it and subsequently looked it up in a dictionary, was in Michael Jackson’s Thriller a couple of decades ago. I’ve associated it with “yuck” ever since for some reason, although my first ...

What a beautiful day! The sky is covered in the most enticing shades of grey, there’s a nice little breeze going, and it’s almost cool… well, at least in comparison to the temperatures we had to endure lately. Awesome! All that’s missing to make my happiness complete, is a little downpour. The ...

Raphael Labro Interview
2007-08-02 00:00:00
Oops!! My first published article this year (yeah, that bad, I know!), and over my design games I played today, I forgot all about it! As I mentioned a few days ago, I had interviewed Raphael Labro for the Gallarija (Malta Independent on Sunday); today it was finally published. Just when I meant to pack ...

Festa weekend
2007-08-02 00:00:00
For now I’ve had enough of tweaking and testing… my head’s close to melt-down! Last night being festa night, we spontaneously organised a terrific, relaxing family BBQ in Marsalforn. We just aren’t exactly crowd people, and with those petards making a mockery out of any attempt at conversation, escape from our ‘quiet’ village is the only ...

Summer Slump

Right now I feel… Alarmed & Confused(Almost) nobody is reading my blog… (almost) nobody sends me mails… even more than half of my regular spammers are avoiding me… Plus I just noticed that FeedBurner hasn’t delivered my post of yesterday. I’m drifting into depression. Hmm. Isn’t it appalling how everyone’s got a life, ...
