Kindness
2007-08-16 03:43:00 “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.” - Mother Teresa During our recent beach vacation, my daughter and I were building a sandcastle on the beach. We were having a great time with one another and were pretty oblivious to passersby. One gentleman, however, walked very close to us as he went down the beach. He stopped behind my daughter’s back, smiled at me, and put his finger to his lips in the classic “quiet” gesture. He then produced a particularly beautiful shell from the bag he was carrying and laid it in the sand behind her. After he’d walked a few steps, I showed her the shell and told her that a nice man had left it for her. I pointed him out, now several yards down the beach as she called out “thank you!” He just kept walking, but I’m sure the joy in her voice reached him. What a s... More About: Kindness

As I see it, I’m tired of sitting around waiting for things to happen, so now I’m gonna try my hand with the paintbrush of fate. And finally Holly wins the award for today’s best news: I don’t have TB! Head on over to these blogs and share some comment love with these happy people. Thanks! Random Act of Linkness: Older Space
2007-08-15 14:35:00 Visit Linda at Older Space and you will find a variety of topics. I was particular struck by her Poetry. One of her recent poems included this intriguing couple of lines: I don’t care if you steal. Everyone does it; I know how you feel. You’ll have to visit and see for yourself why she is endorsing theft. Have a great day, Linda! More About: Random
A Little Patience
2007-08-15 03:32:00 “How poor are they who have not patience!” - William Shakespeare While treating my daughter to a fast food lunch today, our service turned out to be not-so-fast. The place was packed, as was apparent from the crowded parking lot. Since she really wanted to dine under the golden arches, we stayed. While waiting in line to place our order (and waiting some more to receive our food) I was able to observe a wide variety of responses to the inconvenience. One woman in line was particularly red-faced, loudly announcing to the workers and fellow customers how long she had been waiting and how “ridiculous” it all was. While none of us seemed particularly happy to be there, I wondered what I could do to prevent myself from going the route of Ms. Red. Some Advice on Cultivating Patience Accept, understand, and forgive yourself No one is perfect, so don’t be too hard on yourself for moments of impatience. Stay focused on your goal of cultivating a... More About: Litt

Random Act of Linkness: Anuvue Studio
2007-08-14 15:41:00 Take a moment to visit Anuvue Studio , and you’ll be glad you did. I’m sure that you’ll be struck by the beautiful photography as well as the charming insights that the author presents. I particularly enjoyed Small Town Bar, which describes the author’s experiences in such a colorful way. Here’s an excerpt: The dog let me shoot his portrait and then I slid off my bar stool to take some photos around the room. When 4 gigantic, burly, tatted up Harley dudes strolled in, I sat back down and ordered some lunch. Pay a visit, and why not leave some a Random Act of Comment?

MyTurn/YourTurn: You Can’t Take It With You
2007-08-14 05:43:00 MyTurn: Last year, I directed a play called You Can’t Take It With You which centers around the eccentric Sycamore family. The members of the family spend all day doing whatever they feel passionately about: inventing fireworks, typing plays, practicing ballet, painting, etc. They are misunderstood because they just do whatever they want even though it doesn’t seem to be “productive” in the classic sense. Tonight, I felt like I was really living the theme of that play. In true Sycamore fashion, I took my little tools down to the beach and built a sandcastle. I didn’t even have my children with me as an “excuse.” When people saw me building my big mound of sand, I imagined that they must think I was some kind of “pro” builder, out practicing my craft. Instead, I was just having a wonderful time. It’s nice to be able to live the Sycamore lifestyle even more fully than I usually do. It was time went spent, in my opinion. YourTurn: What is something that ...
