Video - Music Composition from Win XP/98 Sounds
2008-02-18 10:37:00
Superb music composition using Win XP/98 Sounds , by SomethingUnreal. You have to listen to it to believe it. Amazing. A piece of music I made using some of the various sounds Windows XP and 98 come with. The music is about 1:31 long. After that, I show the sounds which were used. The video is screen-captured from ModPlug Tracker, the program which I made the music on.

Sexuality - Size matters
2008-02-13 08:10:00
Women gathered together in a long discussion about whether size matters. After vigorous debates, they came up with the authentic Penis Size Preference chart, which spreaded across the globe practically overnight. Men voiced their concerns: Richmessenger: Buried as inaccurate. My measurements aren't even close to the ones in red on the chart, yet the only woman I've been with said it was "perfect". She would never lie...... While another responded: TheSeptimheir: Mother's opinion doesn't count. We turned to experts at about.com to discuss the average penis size. Continue reading »

How I taught myself speed reading and how it saved me
2008-02-13 04:29:00
I find the speed reading tips from evernerve.com highly informative. I went through a self-taught speed reading course about 7 years ago in my preparation for the medical school entrance exam, verbal section. Before that, I was never a good reader. Having come here when I was 12.5, I hated reading because I was never able to understand anything. I hated English class. I detested essays. I abhorred anything involving literature. My reading speed at the time was in the 200's wpm with poor comprehension ranking in the 17th percentile compared to all medical school entrance test takers. After 6 weeks of intensive training and months of practice, my reading comprehension went up to the 87th percentile. Over the past 7 years, I've been using the same method in all of my reading activities. I find it extremely useful because it allows me to grasp the main idea in the shortest amount of time possible. My current reading speed is about 700-750 wpm with average comprehension. I'm still...

How to Speed Read on the Web
2008-02-13 03:48:00
Continuing the series of essential skills which were started with my articles on memory improvement, I will introduce you now to speed reading. Who should learn speed reading for the Web? Why should you learn this essential skill? Because you will find it extremely useful if you are: A webmaster. You are sifting through tons of information on a daily basis. You need to be able to scan through all this information rapidly and find things of interest to you. You need the speed to go through dozens of articles that will help you find inspiration and reference for your own articles and your websites' content. A social media user. You may be spending a lot of time on Digg, StumbleUpon, del.icio.us and other social sharing websites. So you need to go quickly through all the articles that your online friends sent you, understand what they are all about and then decide whether to share them, bookmark them, promote them further or bury them. An information junkie. You are probably ...

Blogs - Google spent 7 hrs indexing my blog, New blog name
2008-02-10 10:56:00
After I made my blog static, Google just spent 7 hrs indexing about 900 entries of my blog, which has a total of 1350+ entries. That's quite amazing. I'm expecting more traffic soon. Google is great. I just made the changes only about a day a go and now Google is all over it. I hold utmost respect for this great company. Speaking of which, the name Rt-sight here isn't even permanent. It's only temporary. I'm thinking of a better name. The blog will be just the same, only the name changes. Reason is that I've been using Rt-sight as a username in various websites and I want to disconnect it from my blog. I'm thinking of a name that has something to do with: 1. Rt 2. Sight 3. Sur-gery 4. Car-diac 5. MD 6. ...... Note that none of this identifies me as a person offline.

Blogs - Main categories get bold in archives listing
2008-02-09 20:42:00
• Update the archives listing to make main categories bold, but not sub categories. The code requires some thoughts, but took me about 5 minutes to make the change. Great. Easier to read. • Also moved the widget placement around. Intended to make all archive entries static so they get their own page ranking. New entries remain top 5 in google search. But old entries are no where to be found. Could be something with how they're publish dynamically or statically.

When Should You Keep Your Ideas to Yourself?
2008-02-08 11:49:00
I lead a group of technically and intellectually gifted managers. Although I appreciate their brilliance, their need to constantly display this brilliance can be annoying. Any suggestions? One of the classic interpersonal challenges I see in brilliant, technically gifted people is their desire to "add value," especially to other people's ideas. When does this occur? Imagine that you are an entry-level employee. I am your manager. You come to me with an idea -- which you think is great. You have been working on this idea for months and are really excited about what you have developed. I like the idea. Rather than just saying, "great idea!" -- being the brilliant, technically gifted person I am, I may well say, "That is a very good idea. Why don't you add this to it?" This could well be a case of trying to add "too much value," and here's the problem: the quality of the idea may go up 5% with my suggestions, but your commitment to its execution may go down 50%. It is no longe...

Blog updates
2008-02-07 03:16:00
I made some changes to my blog. • I almost completely revamped the pagination system. Previously, date-based archives were unable to load in chronological order. I manually created 3 smarty scripts to paginate archives 3 ways: Index front page, date-based archives, and category archive. It's now working pretty well regardless how one decides to view these archives. + Migration to MT4.1 created some unrecognized bug for old entries, which have been fixed + I updated some old entries in 2002, adding tags and categories. I stil have about 1100 more entries to update. Some extraneous codings within those enries were removed also. + My Maxthon 2 browser has been very slow compared to Firefox, so instead of simply updating to the latest version. I installed it from scratch, made some changes to the interface, and now it loads much faster on my comp. All the fonts are now smaller, which is easier on my eyes. I love the way my browser is at the moment: 1 menu bar on top, 2 bars a...

Winning the temperature war in the office
2008-02-07 02:04:00
Annie Steinberg typically sits at her desk wearing a ski hat, gloves and a scarf. A space heater, supplied by her company, is operating nearby. Meanwhile, her boss, Bradford Rand, sits in his office at the other end of the floor and frequently opens his window to let the winter air cool off his sweltering office. Theirs is a typical workplace scenario. Keeping offices comfortable for employees is virtually impossible, since "comfortable" means something different to everyone. Add to that old buildings with uneven heating and cooling systems and it's possible to have one office--one room, even--with several climates. See the gallery: Temperature Wars In The Office Continue reading ??

The Pink and Blue Project
2008-02-05 18:23:00
Jeongmee Yoon - "The Pink and Blue Project " was at first motivated by my daughter. At five years old, she loves pink so much that she wants to wear only pink clothes and use only pink toys or objects. I found that she is not unusual and most other little girls in the U.S. and South Korea love pink clothing, accessories and toys. This phenomenon seems widespread among various ethnic groups regardless of their cultural background. It could be the result of an influence of customs or the power of pervasive commercial advertisements for merchandise such as Barbie and Hello Kitty. Continue reading ??

Health - New HIV Statistics: 0.47% of US Adults Infected
2008-01-31 22:33:00
The CDC announced on 1/29/08 that 0.47% of U.S. adults younger than 50 are infected with HIV. That's 1 out of 212 people, more common in African-American men (2.6%) and women (1.5%). Study based on 12,000 adults (18-49 yo) took place from 1999-2006 and reached similar conclusion to the survey done in 1988-1994. That means if a person has sex randomly without taking any precaution, there's 1 in 212 chances that he/she will interact with an HIV positive individual.

If this happens to you, you're toasted. Quite an interesting display of the mechanism of HIV infection, how it targets cells and replicates. It seems a bit scary if you understand the implications. There's no going back. That's why you need to be extra careful. Get tested.
