Lessons learned in the school cafeteria
2007-06-06 06:04:00 Middle School was the worst two years of my life. I was the kid who was always picked on for some dumb reason or another. In class I could hide behind the teachers lesson plan and I could walk the back way to and from the school. That only left one scary place for me to go. The Cafe teria. In the school cafeteria, the entire 7th or 8th grade is crammed into a small space with white tables and only one or two teachers to keep an eye on things. Many scary things can happen to a girl who is the tallest in the class and possibly the skinniest. Luckily, I survived most of lunch time by keeping to myself and ignoring bullies. One day I couldn't avoid them. A few friends and I were in the middle of try outs for the Color Guard (yes, I was that geeky in my early High School years) and were asked to try and help recruit more people during our lunch break. We were even allowed to remove the 5ft pole with a light pink and sequined flag from the high school to bring to school with us. We stood b... More About: Learn , Less , Sons
Happy Father's Day to Single Moms ~by Heather
2007-06-05 07:33:00 In June, we celebrate Father's Day... and by we, I mean all single mothers. The reason? Most of us have taken on additional roles, some of them ones that we aren't necessarily cut out to do. We "take one for the team" when it comes to our kids and while you may hear us say, "That's a man thing!" the reality of it is, it's our thing -- whether we like it or not.No, we don't get to use the great lines of "Go ask your father" or threaten "Wait until your father gets home" because it's just us. No one else is coming home for them to wait on. (I tried it once on my kids and they laughed out loud!)Even though I am actively seeking someone else to explain the birds and the bees to my son, I am grateful for the things that I have learned by taking on the fathering role. For example, when my son began playing football, I was clueless from where the pads went to how the game was played. But I learned quick! We stumbled around the first time I had to get him dressed for practice wi... More About: Happy , Moms , Single , Heath , S Day
I had a hot date on Saturday
2007-06-04 20:57:00 With the exception of this stupid sinus infection, we had a great weekend here. On Saturday we rested up and took a bunch of cold medicine in anticipation for our evening out. Hubby and I have not had an evening out by ourselves in a really long time. A really good friend of mine came over after we put the girls to bed and we headed out to a local "goth club". We picked a great night to go too because so many people that we knew were there. I got to chat and mingle with friends. I got to dance my butt off on the dance floor and I got to flirt with my husband without little hands pushing me away and saying "My Dada". The night did not come without drama. There are certain people that we call "geriatric bats" who have been around a long time and for some reason a lot of them like create drama for no good reason. A friend of mine got attacked due to this mess. Then there was some "baby bat" drama. Luckily I got to stay out of most of that and just have fun.It is amazing to see that so ...
Last Day of School
2007-06-01 16:56:00 Today is Miss Turtle's last day of third grade. I cannot believe it has been a whole school year since her first day. Today she will find out who her 4th grade teacher will be next year and have my fingers tightly crossed that it will be the teacher who was featured on PBS as being such a great teacher. However, all the PTA moms throw fits about what teachers they want and are usually granted their wish. Most of these moms just think this teacher is hot. I think they are blind.Anyway, yesterday Miss Turtle's class went to the park for some play time. While they were there, she and another student both had small bleeding wounds. Yes they were small, but they were open and bleeding enough to ruin on of my daughter's socks. The art teacher (whom we have had problems with before) told the girls that they would be fine until they got home.I am a little peeved. I think they deserved at least a band aid. My child had to walk home with blood filling up her sock and was open to who knows ... More About: School
Wow, even more H8R mail
2007-06-01 16:12:00 I am a little shocked and amazed. I got my first h8r comment less than a full month ago. I was discussing my disgust for drunk drivers and rich celebrity girls getting away with it, and I was told how "mean" I was. I have already received two more h8r comments. This time they were much more personal. How in the heck does a simple Mommy Blog (that apparently has terrible word choice and story lines) get so much h8r mail? I am still not sure, but hey, if it makes people happy to come pick on a mommy and her two little ones, that is their own sadness. Maddog left me a message threatening physical violence upon himself if he has to read more mommy blog where people call their Husbands "Hubby" or their kids some cutsie name like "Little Bear". I told him that maybe he shouldn't read those blogs. Or maybe he shouldn't even read mommy blogs. From the looks of his blog, it's not like he is purusing my blog for his site. I am certainly not his type for a "bangable babe". However, I do hav... More About: Mail
The mystery of the clogged sink solved! Boots to administered to bums this
2007-05-31 21:03:00 This morning I posted about clogged sink and pretty much whined about my morning and threatened to throw cats at random people. Now, I have a target for those cats.Hubby.The maintenance team arrived and started tinkering with the inner workings of my sink. They asked me if I had put noodles down the drain. I told them that I had not. A slow sense of dread mixed with "oh crap" slowly spread across my mind and then my face. I had made Miss Turtle some noodles before her softball game yesterday. Hubby was trying to help me out by doing the dishes. He put the noodles right down the drain even though I always tell him to put that kind of stuff (especially in large amounts) in the trash first. Those noodles clogged up my sink. I called him the second I found out. He told me that couldn't be true and it didn't make sense because the disposal should have chopped it all up. Even so, the noodles absorbed a bunch of water and clogged up the entire pipe. We have to have a plumber with a long s... More About: Boots , Mystery , Admin , Minister , Boot
Miss Tanzania, Flaviana Matata
2007-05-31 18:21:00 I did not watch the Miss Universe Pageant on TV, nor did I really have any desire to. I saw a post this morning over at Original Man that made me wish that I had. From onlinewire.comMiss Tanz ania , Flaviana Matata, an electrical technician whose country is participating in the pageant for the first time, is the first Miss Universe contestant to display a clean-shaven head."I never let anyone define me, neither by hair nor clothing, as I believe God made me perfect as a pure, natural African woman."I think it is great that a woman decided to enter this "beauty pageant" with her own style and her own unique beauty.http://www.text-link-ads.com/xml_b logger.php?inventory_key=7FK6WL5FBEDW4QBQ PZ4C&feed=1 More About: Tata

I am so not a morning person.
2007-05-31 16:14:00 I love my family. I really do. But there are some mornings when I want to tug at my hair and run screaming into the streets in my bathrobe throwing kittens and stray cats at random people. Today was one of those mornings. We are starting potty training today. We are just testing the waters to see if Little Bear is even ready to start. This is not the stressful part of my morning. Well, with the exception of Miss Turtle and Hubby continually coming in to get their random belongings (most of which don't belong there in the first place) and Little Bear shouting "No! I GO POTTY! No!" and throwing a fit that almost lands her inside the toilet. No, that is part of the morning that I can deal with. It's the clogged sink, the baked on oatmeal bowl, and the "I can't find my hat!" from Miss Turtle. The sink has decided that it no longer wants to drain water. Instead, I turn on the garbage disposal and it spits water into the other side of the sink. Nice. Both sides of my sink are now filled ... More About: Morning , Person
Car Insurance Woes
2007-05-30 21:39:00 Do you remember the car accident that I was in at the beginning of the year? It boiled down to being a hit and run accident, although I did the hitting and they did the running. Well, our car insurance company payed for the accident and I was "forgiven" because of my good driving record (well, what is on record anyway) and because we have multiple policies which is a great loyalty to the company (lowers the rates, I promise). Luckily those rates did not go up because of this accident..This article about Car Insurance states that twenty percent of drivers do not concentrate when they are driving. I thought the number would be a lot higher. I hope they don't include me and my accident in that number. I was concentrating. In fact, I was concentrating so hard on the snow and ice, that I slid on it right into the back of that Jeep Cherokee. So after that we were very happy with our insurance company. We just weren't sure about the agent, but we went with him because my MIL worked with ... More About: Car Insurance

Softball Snacks
2007-05-30 16:24:00 Tonight Miss Turtle has a softball game at 5. Not only do we have to be there at 4:15, but today is the day that I have to come with snacks for 12 girls. I was thinking along the lines of apple slices and carrots. Or even baked apple chips and sugar free jello. When I talked to one of the coaches, she (a mother herself) suggested potato chips, fruit snacks, and candy. What a healthy thing to give our kids after engaging in a physical activity. Candy? Are you for real? I am glad I wasn't at the game where they offered my daughter candy as an after game snack. There would have been some words. It's not that I mind candy. Candy is great. I personally am very addicted to candy. But why would you feed this to 8 year old girls when most of them have not had dinner yet and they just played an entire game of softball? I am going to be the "not cool" momma and bring baked apple chips (no added sugar, just some cinnamon) carrots and boxes of 100% juice as water is already provided and you ar... Dallas Five-Year-Old with ADD Finds Relief with Integrated Treatment Progra
2007-05-30 02:28:00 I ran across this press release regarding More information about new ADD/ADHD treatments and thought I might post this for some of my mommy and daddy readers out there. I have never had to deal with ADD in children or adults before, so I am not very familiar with it. However, I do feel that is a condition that is being diagnosed and the medicated much to quickly. A friend of mine has a chatter box for a son. He is now 6, and still a little ball of fire, and chatter. Most kids his age are just like this. In fact my 8 year old is a non stop chatter box as well. My friend was told by another woman that she needed to put this boy on an ADD diet right away before things got worse and he would need to be medicated. All because he liked to talk. Why did she say this? Maybe she is crazy. Maybe she was worried. Or maybe, just maybe, some crazy doctor or another crazy woman told her that her kids needed to be medicated for being a chatter box.Although, I do not know a lot about ADD, I do know ... For the Love of chocolate
2007-05-29 22:29:00 First off, I want to thank everyone for the well wishes for Little Bear's party this weekend. It was a big success (although the guy with the grill was a little bit late he he) and we were able to celebrate with so many of our friends and family. I ended up eating some bad chicken tenders that night after everyone went home and was very ill at 4 in the morning and a bit the next day. I didn't see any candy. I asked Hubby "Did you get me a Milky Way?" with big innocent eyes. He said "Oh crap, I forget. Memories of the Police (the band...not my teenage anticts)
2007-05-26 20:25:00 When I was in elementary school, I used to live for sleepovers. Every weekend a friend and I would find a way to make our parents let us have a sleepover. One of my friends ,Allison, and I would stay up as late as we could and call the radio station asking for our favorite song. The people who answered the phones, and the DJ, were both pretty tired of our relentless calls asking them to play Every Breath You Take by The Police . That was the song. That was my song. That song still brings me back to those sleepovers when I was a kid with no bills, no responsibilities, and lots of time to just be a kid. I still hear Every Breath You Take on the radio every now and then. You know, that station that plays the "old but still good" stuff? Well, apparently the new police cd is all apart of the their big comeback. These are the tracks:Disc: 1 1. Fallout 2. Can't Stand Losing You 3. Next to You 4. Roxanne 5. Truth Hits Everybody 6. Little Bear's First Hair Cut
2007-05-26 19:13:00 There is something about that first hair cut that really makes a momma realize that her baby is no longer a baby. I took Litt le Bear to a place called Lil Cuts to get her hair cut yesterday. Poor baby, err...I mean toddler, was trying so hard to shove her bangs out of her face, so I decided it was time to take her for this major milestone. We arrived and there was a sign that said "We only accept checks and cash".Well, crap. Mommy only carries a debit card. I went in to let them know I was here but would have to reschedule so that I could go get cash. It would have been nice if they would have told me this when I made the appointment on the phone just hours early and I told them I had never been there before. The told me they could give my appointment to the 4 o'clock who was already there and I could run across the street to the bank, or down the mall strip to the bar. I think I would rather go to the bank than take my toddler into a bar. I buckle Little Bear back into her car sea... More About: Hair , Hair cut
The Coffee Bra

It will fit most travel mugs, or if you don't have your mug, it will fit most coffee shop stores cups. There are so many designs to choose from! The creator of The Coffee Bra has made a ton of different personalities for each of her girls. She has Sex in the City characters Carrie, Samantha, and Charlotte. She has even included sex symbols Pamela and Britney. My favorites would have to be the Burlesque Dancer, GI Jane, and the Career Girl. She currently has about 20 Coffee Bras in her Etsy Shop. There is even a design your own option where you can choose the colors and even help with a fun name for your girls. The one that I got is called The Survivor. It is a beautiful, soft pink ...

Yesterday she turned two
2007-05-25 16:44:00 Yesterday was Little Bear's 2nd birthday. I cannot believe that she is two years old now. It seems like just yesterday we were coming home from the hospital, so very tired, with a swaddled up "baby burrito". That is what Hubby and I call her when she is all swaddled up, or wrapped up in a towel. She woke up yesterday to a table full of presents and balloons, although she preferred to just have some cereal as you can see: She soon realized that there were goodies to be found underneath all that paper.: Her favorite gift was the Skippy Jon Jones books. We love that little kitty here.Later in the day we went to McDonald's for some dinner (if you could call it that) and playtime. Then we came home and had ourselves some birthday brownies:Even though it sounds like the day was so lovely and perfect, it wasn't really. For the last few weeks I have blamed Little Bear's behavior on the fact that her 2nd birthday was looming. I figured that she was slowly easing into her terrible two pha... Some competitors charge a large mark up (I've read that it is 50%-100% markup, ouch!) and then they get to keep half of your money. PPP Direct only charges a 10% mark up and half of that is to cover the expense of Paypal and credit card fees.I tried to watch a video to learn more about PPP Direct, but my computer is being cranky and won't load it. Who would you interview?
2007-05-23 16:36:00 On a message board this morning, I ran across this question:Imagine that you are a journalist. What is the newspaper or magazine you want to write for? And why? And if you must make an interview with somebody -what is your choice? Somebody popular or may be somebody you know? This was my answer:I would want to do interviews with average people. I think we have enough media flocking to get to the celebs and most of their stories are in tabloid form. I would interview farmers, people who have started their own companies, stay at home moms and working moms, stay at home dad, parents with special needs children, those scary stage moms, factory workers, local bands trying to make it big, and parents of young girls who are growing up into a sex filled society way too fast. I think those stories would be much more interesting than the brand of toilet paper that Jennifer Aniston uses or how much money was blown the last time Paris Hilton went shopping. I shouldn't be tired, I have it easy remember?
2007-05-22 01:30:00 I try not to get into the debate of working moms versus stay at home moms, but today I have a little rant about it. Not against working moms, but to the working moms out there that think we have it "so easy".There is a certain person that is in my life, whether I like it or not, that we will call Crazy Pants. This woman, along with her husband, are very odd and selfish people. There is a huge history behind them, but I won't get into all that nonsense. Not now anyway. So Crazy Pants has all but shouted from the rooftops that she is anti-stay at home mom. She wants to pursue her career (which ironically, she is flushing down the toilet by no fault but her own) and is willing to do anything to get to the top and feels that all women should have the same goal whether they are mothers or not. I have no issues with ambitious women. I think it is wonderful that there are women out there who have set out to break that glass ceiling. What I do have a problem with is these ceiling breakers t... More About: Easy , Tired , Tire
Teaching Kids about Money
2007-05-21 22:17:00 One of our small daily struggles at casa de Mommy the Maid is teaching Miss Turtle the value of a dollar. She doesn't understand that leaving the box of Eggo waffles open every morning wastes money when I have to throw away frost bitten waffles. I bought Wal-Mart generic ones once and that changed her habit for a little while. It backfired though because those waffles were thrown away from no one eating them all. Doh!Miss Turtle doesn't seem to know just how much work goes into the money that keeps our family's heads above water. I don't want her to get into her teen years still not knowing.PAYjr Visa Buxx is an educational tool to teach teens how to budget, earn, and spend money responsibly. It' a chore and allowance system for kids and a prepaid teen card. They also have a design your own card to which is very appealing to kids. Heck, it is even appealing to me. Staple this camera to my head please ~ I missed the green baby
2007-05-21 02:17:00 I keep forgetting to document my life in pictures. Not only do those pictures created wonderful memories for me cherish forever, they really can make a great blog post. LOLOn Friday, I actually got to take a shower all by myself. There were no children in the shower, no children banging at the door, and no kitty cat needing to use her litter box. It was great. Then I step out of the shower and see Little Bear wearing nothing but a diaper. This is not unusual for her to remove her clothing, but she has a bit of a green hue to her. I grab my glasses and put them on to look at her. She is COVERED from head to toe in green marker. I decided that she could just stay green for a few minutes while I found some clothing to put on. I walked the hallway very slowly on the look out for this green marker and fearing what else she could have colored. I could not find any sign of this marker anywhere but on her body. I throw her in the bath tub with some toys and bubbles and watch the water start ... More About: Baby , Camera , Green , Head , Please

My Mother's Day
2007-05-15 16:38:00 I had the best Mother's Day ever. I woke up to the giggling sounds of Little Bear brining me a crumled piece of paper and Hubby whispering "Go give it to Mommy." She handed me a picture she had colored with the Crayola Color Wonder markers and paper. (If you haven't tried those, you really should. We love them here.) Then my Hubby brought a beautiful bouqet of daisies and roses and a card. Inside the card he told me how much he appreaciates everything that I do everyday and how I really make our house a home. I had a few tears. It was so sweet. Hubby asked what I wanted for breakfast, and I told him it didn't really matter. Then Miss Turtle came into the room with a windchime she had made me and 3 or 4 different cards she had colored, including the one I busted her making, and a Winnie the Pooh maraca she had made for me. Little Bear very promptly took off with the maraca. I layed in bed for a while relaxing and fell back asleep. I re-awoke to the sound of the smoke a... More About: S Day
I busted a Mother's Day Surprise
2007-05-13 06:02:00 The other night I heard the sound of a child not sleeping coming from Miss Turtle's room after I had long since told her it was time for bed and tucked her in for the night. I opened the door and saw the light from the Gameboy being closed. The green power light still glowing to show me that it was powered on. I was not happy. I took the Gameboy and turned it off."Mommy, I wasn't playing I swear. There isn't even a game in it."I look and sure enough the cartridge slot was empty."Well then what where you doing?""I dunno"Seeing as how I hate that answer and we just have the conversation twice that day about the "I dunno" answer I answered in the scary Mommy Voice."No, you do know. What were you doing?"Her answer killed me."I let Little Bear color a bunch on it and I didn't have time to finish your Mother's Day present so I was trying to use the light to see so I could finish it."I wanted to cry.
