Poetry (part 6)
2007-09-18 12:58:00 Religion Spirituality?s going wholesale, Down at the second-hand stall, Why not buy a little crucifix too, And wait for that celestial call. He said ?I am the truth, ?I am the way, ?If you?ve got money, ?I?ll save you today, ?If you bleed like a river, ?Your soul will be pure, ?For you?re a disease, ?And I am the cure?. Sitting in lotus position for four hours, Still no sign of me floating away, I sing to the gods for a lottery win, ?Cos prayers and mantras are so passé. He said ?I speak for God, ?Now do as I say, ?Your money is sinful, ?Kindly pass it my way, ?To your dark souls, ?My light I shall bring ?If you suffer to death ?The angels will sing?. I walk over fire for redemption, I felt an angel soothe my chest, She flew from Heaven on a 747, That killed the wicked witch of the west. My friend converses with spirits, And the preacher man curses his soul, And old man screams in a padded room, The guilt of 'sin' having taken it?s toll. They look for answers outside thems... Religion & Spirituality
2007-09-18 11:50:00 I'm not a religious person. From a very young age, I questioned the credibility of every religion that I became aware of. I don't agree with the concept. Actually, I resent the concept. For me, the words 'cult' and 'religion' have the same definition. It's a simple method of controlling people, and taking their money in the process. All religions fall under the same category: big business. They are the wealthiest institutions in the world, as well as the most corrupt. Why? Because people don't question their authority, and the 'leaders' therefore, are able to do as they please. I am, though, a spiritual person, in the sense that I believe in the soul and that it survives physical death. It's a strong, unwavering feeling that I've had for a long time.Obviously, this is a very controversial area. But this is my point of view - which could change - and is also open to other ideas. I may be completely wrong ab... More About: Religion , Spirituality , Ality
21 REASONS for being VEGETARIAN
2007-09-14 16:47:00 I found this excellent, informative page here:http://www.giveusahome.co.uk/article s/vegetarianism.htmVegetarian ism is the fastest growing trend in the developed world. Here are 21 reasons why you should think about turning green too. * Avoiding meat is one of the best and simplest ways to cut down your fat consumption. Modern farm animals are deliberately fattened up to increase profits. Eating fatty meat increases your chances of having a heart attack or developing cancer. * Every minute of every working day, thousands of animals are killed in slaughter-houses. Pain and misery are common. In the US alone, 500,000 animals are killed for meat every hour. * There are millions of cases of food poisoning recorded every year. The vast majority are caused by eating meat. * Meat contains absolutely nothing - no proteins, vitamins or minerals - that the human body cannot obtain perfectly happily from a vegetarian diet. * African countries - where millions are starving to death - export grai... Poetry (part 5)
2007-09-13 11:25:00 The Wolf The Wolf is always around me, Always waiting for my light to flicker, So that she may sink her razor teeth in me, I sense the beast as her stench gets thicker. I try to brighten up my home, But there are shadows everywhere, She?s always around to remind me, That I?m still not immune from the depths of despair. The wolf appeared when I was young, She slowly drained the essence of me, My mind became a gilded cage, Everyone searched but couldn?t find a key. Will the wolf be an eternal presence? Always ready to kill me stone dead, I do not laugh at her occasional threats, My life depends on the strength of a thread.(written by The Selkie) More About: Poetry , Part
Poetry (part 4)
2007-09-13 11:10:00 THE THREATThere is a threat to all that lives on Earth, The monsters that plagued me as a child, Like the ogre under the bridge, The vampire at the window, Did not prepare me for the real monsters, The real monsters are masters of subtlety, They conceal their evil intent with a smile, They rise to power like a deadly airborne virus, Human lives are of second importance, Their greed can never be satiated.(written by The Selkie) More About: Poetry , Part
SIDNEY POITIER / Poetry (part 3)
2007-09-11 14:22:00 KindredYou are the giver of hope, When I feel my life is corroding, You offer me a yielding path, When my world is dark and foreboding. You generate a sense of tranquility, When I am paralyzed with fear, You are the bringer of faith and trust, Dispelling all doubt whenever you?re near. You are the joker who sets me at ease, When my anger is ready to explode, You unlock my potential with guidance, Clearing the way on my spiritual road. You emanate beauty that lights up a room, You are the finest example of art, You are the only one I truly adore, And I love you with all my heart.(written by The Selkie) Whenever I watch a Sidney Poitier film I always feel uplifted. He has it all, really...talent, warmth, charisma, wit, courage, sensitivity and of course, very good-looking. He's now 80 years young, but those eyes still have the power to render me speechless!Anyway, I wrote the above poem 'Kindred' after I watched his 1963 film 'Lilies of the Field' (for which he won his firs... BEHIND THE MASK
2007-09-10 15:03:00 Psychology fascinates me. People, and the masks they wear, intrigue me especially. Whenever we meet someone, for the first time, we see the mask/persona very clearly, because it's how he/she wants to be seen. But I recognize the fact that it is simply a tool to conceal - probably - about 90% of the real person/psyche.Some are better at hiding their psyche than others. Sometimes we don't realize that a lot of people can 'read' our psyche - much better than ourselves. Someone could talk non-stop for a week about their thoughts and feelings and probably not even scratch the surface. Yet, someone else can look beyond their attempt at self-analysis and see very clearly how they are thinking and feeling. The psyche, of course, is a huge maze. That's why many people find it very difficult to articulate in words or express in other ways, exactly what going on 'inside'.So, I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that we know very little about ourselves. This is because ... More About: Mask , The Mask
A FEW WORDS
2007-09-10 13:52:00 I never add a date to any of the poetry I've written. The reason is that whenever I feel inspired, I just grab a scrap of paper and scribble down words as quicky as possible - before I forget.About two years ago I gathered all the scraps together and finally typed and printed them. They're now legible...but not necessarily intelligible! More About: Words
Poetry (Part 2)
2007-09-07 23:48:00 Here's another little cheerful poem! Human Race They say that money has overtaken us, It?s a god we created a long time ago, And this planet is filled with a spiritual void, Bereft of the wisdom that would allow us to grow. The dolphin stops breathing, but he?s still smiling, As the blood streams out of his head, The most trusting of animals on this Earth, Is thrown back to the sea and left for dead. Her shrinking body eats her inside out, Somebody?s daughter is screaming in pain, Just another bag of bones on a dusty road, Millions of humans praying for rain. I see the governments wasting billions, To look at death in space. Whilst millions of people are begging for help, Will they ever care about the human race?(written by The Selkie) More About: Poetry , Part
Poetry (Part 1)
2007-09-06 23:25:00 I've written a lot of poetry since I was a child. When I'm writing poetry at any time, I really don't have a great understanding of what I'm expressing...it's only after months, or sometimes years after, that the content becomes chillingly obvious. I suppose when I write, my unconscious comes to the surface. That's probably why I haven't written any poetry for a while! Here's a typical example, which I wrote a few years ago..."I Had A Dream"In my mind, there resides a spirit, And we?re locked in this cell together, He talks non-stop about my mistakes, I?m at the end of my tether. But something strange occurred last night, It happened when I was dreaming, People were trying to grab my attention, But their words had lost all meaning. As I turned to walk away from them, I noticed my soul was exposed, No point in trying to relate to them, I could see their minds were closed. When I awoke I tried to decipher, Just what it all could mean, Then I realized that life has no mea... More About: Poetry , Part
Suffering In The Land
2007-09-06 20:33:00 Suffering? I could write a thing or two about it. Not mine, though - no, I mean the suffering I see all over the planet. Day in, day out; it's everywhere you look. When I was younger and I heard the word 'suffering', I always thought of the images I saw on television of people who were dying due to famine and drought (or should I say: due to the complete indifference from most of the global 'leaders'). I mean, that really is suffering. What is most tragic, for me, is the fact that there are enough resources to help those who are dying. Every one on the planet.I think that the only way to ease our own suffering is by trying to ease the suffering of others. Simplistic, but I believe it to be true. It's nourishment for the soul. I'm gay and schizophrenic. So, WHY, am I complaining?!
2007-08-31 14:36:00 My gripe is that I'm saddled with both! I can look at my 'condition' objectively with a spiritual outlook and say seriously that I've been given an opportunity to learn, grow, evolve, become more compassionate, etc. For me, it's the only way to look at it. I try not to analyze it (anymore). I think that analyzing everything...is pointless. Probably because my perception is, sometimes, a little 'off-target'.Has "thinking" ever really been good for humanity? It's only purpose, it seems, is just to reinforce the suffering that we endure throughout our lives. Plus, I'm an air-sign - according to astrologers - and that makes me a 'thinker' (if you believe that junk/wisdom). I don't want to 'think'!! I want to feel! Does that make me sound gay?! Which leads me on to the gay thing...Most of the gay people I know (and I don't know many) claim to LOVE being gay and are so proud of their sexuality. Fair enough. Great! Except, that I 'think' that they are lying. Gay people suf... More About: Schizo |
