REAL WORLD Rules and Advice for High School Kids to Follow
2008-01-18 18:30:00
Rule #1. Life is not fair. Get used to it. The average teenager uses the phrase “it’s not fair” 8.6 times a day. You got it from your parents, who said it so often you decided they must be the most idealistic generation ever. When they started hearing it from their own kids, they realized Rule #1. Rule #2. The real world won’t care as much about your self-esteem as your school does. It’ll expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself. This may come as a shock. Usually, when inflated self-esteem meets reality, kids complain that it’s not fair. (See Rule No. 1) Rule #3. Sorry, you won’t make $50,000 a year right out of high school. And you won’t be a vice president or have a car phone either. You may even have to wear a uniform that doesn’t have a Gap label. Rule #4. If you think your teacher is tough, wait ’til you get a boss. Brad Renfro Dead at 25. Drugs or Murder Not Ruled Out Yet
2008-01-16 04:00:00
Brad Renfro, a Hollywood actor best known for his roles in “The Client” and “Ghost World” and for his off-screen history of drug abuse, was found dead this morning, the Los Angeles Police Department said. He was 25. As of Tuesday evening, the Los Angeles Times was reporting that although the cause of Renfro’s death had yet to be determined, there was no suspicion of foul play. “Brad was a really gifted young man,” his former attorney Blair Berk reportedly said. “It is a tragedy all the way around.” According to the newspaper, Los Angeles Police Lieutenant David Evans would not comment on rumors of a drug overdose. In 1995, he won the Hollywood Reporter’s YoungStar award, was nominated as one of People magazine’s “Top 30 Under 30,” and won a Young Artist award for his role in “The Cure.” Although the only straight forward family flick Renfro made during his adolescent years was the modest Di...
