Everything's A Letdown

Eastern Kentucky sucks, and anyone who says it doesn't is either a moron or has never been anywhere else. Every little special thing that people do is always "dumbed down" so that it is way shittier than you'd ever expect. Case in point: The Mountain Home Place had a special day for their volunteers to come sell their wares and there were demonstrations of things like sheep shearing and butter making. While new vendors probably assumed they would be inside the store building on the site, where it is air conditioned, they were instead put out in the heat on the "trail", where they were expected to endure 97 degrees for 8 hours from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. What actually happened was that only 5 visitors showed up and all but one vendor had gone home by noon. I really don't know why groups around here plan anything because they seem to be completely inept at doing it. Just keep Eastern Kentucky as it's supposed to be: a complete fucking letdo...

Out With the Old Car Audio

For nearly 7 years my Toyota pickup truck has had a Sony MP3 Walkman CD player stuck to the top of the dashboard. It connected to the built-in cassette player to allow me to play MP3 CDs and jam down the road every day.Today I switched it all out for a tiny thumbdrive-driven unit that broadcasts throught the FM radio, and it even has a tiny remote! I just installed it (all of 2 seconds...plug into the cig lighter...done) and switched on the radio. Great booming sound and no wires like I had with the CD arrangement. I've got several hundred songs located on the USB thumbdrive that plugs into the unit. When I want to change my music, I simply unplug the thumbdrive, bring it into the house, connect it to my computer's USB port, and delete and re-copy the music I want.Could not be simpler, and with a great sound too. It has been one full year since I have spoken one word to any of those Clan assholes, but I have been continually provided with good reason to hate them even more...without any contact with them!Little things like snubbing graduation ceremonies, lying, going off on complete strangers on MySpace, general apathy where things like, "What's done is done...let's move on" are said, and other things have all happened since I haven't been speaking to those people. XP Gone After Next Month?

I know Windows XP has been around since 2001, but I like it. I don't like anything I've heard about Vista, but no one's going to have a choice as of the end of June. Microsoft is supposed to stop selling it with new PCs, and I just got notified by Dell that as of June 18 I will no longer be able to buy computers with XP on them.The reason I have been reluctant to change or even advise my customers to change is that Vista has not 100% friendly with older programs many of my customers like and use. I am sure that problem hasn't been resolved, but I guess we will have no choice. More money for Bill Gates, I guess.I have seen Vista but have NEVER even used it yet myself. I don't have a machine with it loaded, so all I know is what I've read and heard. I guess I will have to get it and play catch-up now.I hate that XP is leaving. I sure like it. But, like all communities, there is gonna be the rare crazy person out there who may not take it in stride when they get bashed on sites like MySpace. While I really believe that most people will get upset with someone, especially a stranger to them, talking trash...these people will eventually let it go and walk away laughing. Thanksgiving Friday

I know the holiday is over a month away, but I wanted to share a solution of mine that cures any problems with conflicting schedules on Thanksgiving .  Except in the retail trade, many people are off work on Thanksgiving Friday besides being off on the actual Thursday holiday itself.  I am one of those people, and I've always had problems getting my kids and others at my house for any kind of meal at a set time, generally because the kids' mother is also having Thanksgiving dinner that day.  Coupled with that problem was the fact that my wife's daughter lives 2 hours away, and my wife wants to be with her on that holiday too.  Way too hectic.  Many cold Thanksgiving dinners where no one is eating at the same time.  Many Thanksgivings where my kids have already eaten a couple of Thanksgiving dinners and really aren't that hungry for mine when I finally see them.  But I think I've solved that little problem.Being off on that Friday after Thanksgiving allows my wife and I to...

George "Dubya" Bush is probably jumping up and down in his office tonight with the find of 19 tons of explosives in Iraq. Although what was found was nothing like the weapons of mass distraction that Bush claimed were there, I'm sure he'll claim victory anyway. I bitch constantly about gas prices, as I'm sure everyone does. What I didn't realize was that OPEC, the organization in the Middle East that controls most of the world's oil, was very surprised when oil hit an all-time high yesterday. And here I thought they were the reason for the high prices! If they aren't to blame, then who the hell is raising the damned prices?I was saying just yesterday how sad it is that my kids will have to drive forever in a world where gas prices are ridiculous...but then again maybe they won't. I have a hard time believing things sometimes.  I usually go by the rule of never believing anything I hear and only half of what I see.  One thing that cannot be disputed is a cold, hard fact, however.  If there's a fact staring me in the face, it would be stupid of me to say that something is "white" when I am looking at something that is "black".  That fact I could not deny.  While my former family persists in claiming that so-and-so lied and so-and-so didn't, what they might be forgetting is that I and my wife have every little scrap of posts on paper that these people made.  So, when they come out saying, "I never said that!  You're lying!"  we can truly prove that the facts show they DID say that.  I cannot understand how seemingly sensible people can become raging dufuses only because someone caught them and called them on a lie.  Several of my former family members have straight out lied, then tried to cover it up saying they didn'...

Is Your Family As Messed Up As Mine?

I just heard someone on TV talking to another who was retiring at a fairly young age. This person was asked why he was retiring so young...wouldn't he get bored? First of all, I do not relish the thought of working every day until I drop dead at my desk, although way too many people in today's world really do feel that way, and once retired many people are so used to 40 or so years of the same grind that they just die, or grieve as if someone close to them died. How pathetic.I have been in business for myself for almost 9 years now, and while I do not work every single day, I really don't want to.
