Belts with no purpose?
2007-11-28 21:43:00
Always one to speak my mind when it comes to fashions, (Because I know so much about it :p) I realized I have not tackled anything on this subject in a while, and in the absence of anything else to post on...I have decided to give my thoughts on belts. :p Not just any type of belt, rather the current women's trend you could say, of wide belts that cut their upper torso in half and have no function to speak of. Much like my post on Pointy high heel shoes this subject came into my head after I had an encounter with a lady wearing something along the lines of this:Yeah I know that is a bad picture, I just grabbed the first one I saw online...It took me a few minutes to actually find a picture similar to what the lady was wearing. Back to the subject on hand, or on stomach...Why oh why do people where belts that high up? There is no purpose, except maybe to keep your shirt from just flying off which would probably only happen if you jumped out of an airplane! I just don't understand i...

A Tale of Black Friday Madness
2007-11-26 19:15:00
Most people are probably familiar with Black Friday , the day after Thanksgiving that heralds in the Christmas shopping season. Ever since I have been able to drive, waiting in line with hundreds of fellow shivering shoppers in the early morning hours of Friday has been something that has brought me great pleasure. (I like chaos remember?) For those wondering why hundreds of crazy people line up outside stores hours before they open, let me explain. On Black Friday , most stores open several hours before their regular hours and in order to entice buyers they have these "doorbuster" deals. Things like 42" LCD televisions $700 off, $800 laptops for $350, 75% off all regular priced clothes...You get the idea ;) Because these deals are so good, people start lining up to get in the stores most of the time before the employees have even arrived. Never one to pass up a deal, for several years I have braved the cold and lost sleep in my warm bed to snag great deals on electronics which I the...

Thieves Lose Car In Parking Lot, Ask Cops For HelpChances are you've probably lost your car at a mall parking lot a time or too. But if you are a pack thieves stealing items from the mall and then hiding them in said car, you'd probably want to ask for help finding the car from someone other than police. Alas, that was not the case for three women and man from the Boston area over the weekend.Police were called to the Natick Collection on Sunday after several stores reported thefts, including a $10,000 dollar purse. The "Natick Collection" is the new name for the Natick Mall, which re-opened in September after a massive expansion. It now includes dozens of high end retailers, including Bottega Veneta, where the purse was stolen from.According to the Metro West Daily News , one of the clerks noticed the purse was gone and checked security tape which showed a man stealing it from a display. The store contacted several others, and discovered there had been other thefts. After looking ...

A Ham
2007-11-21 17:42:00
Well another Wednesday has arrived and for a change I thought I might have something interesting to blog about! For Thanksgiving we are having my dad's family over so we will have around 30 people at our house. For the past week we have been cleaning everything in sight and my Mother and sisters have been cooking. Because my dad has been out of town, the job of picking up the ham today fell on me. I was actually looking froward to it since I figured I would be in line for 30 minute to an hour at least and something interesting was bound to happen standing in line for an hour! Alas it was not to be. :( There were no fights in the parking lot over parking spaces, there was actually a police officer directing everyone so the task of parking was easy enough. Then when I got in the back of the 50+ person line, the line actually moved rather fast and there were not any loud talkative ladies carrying on conversations I could listen in on! The pick up and check out process was a breeze as ...

Amazing Grace = Amazingly Great!
2007-11-20 21:23:00
Back in March, I walked into the theater to see Amazing Grace and I was not really sure what to expect, I had not even watched the trailer! All I knew was it was about William Wilberforce a guy who was instrumental in ending slavery in the British Empire, I only knew this because Sarah who was really pumped about the film told me. :p Not having any or low expectations can sometime make a movie better than it really is on a first viewing but in the case of Amazing Grace this is not the case. The Story is based on British Member of Parliament, William Wilberforce who during the late 18th century and early 19th century, began his political career as an popular MP. Being the ambitious person he is, he takes on the issue of the slave trade which in turn leads him to become highly unpopular in the House of Lords. :p In time, after much work, he is eventually responsible for a bill being passed through Parliament, which abolishes the slave trade in the British Empire.Ioan Gruffudd is totall...

The Remedy
2007-11-20 03:45:00
Last week I was walking up and down my driveway listening to the new David Crowder Band cd - The Remedy . The Lord has been showing me some areas in my life that I need to give to Him and really opened my eyes to how fallen I am. How I can't do it myself, I can't change the way I respond to people or the way I view people ect... without God changing my heart. I was walking and thinking about this when these lyrics came on..... He is the oneWho has saved usHe is the oneWho embraced usHe is the one who has comeAnd is coming againHe?s the remedy It made is so clear that I have to rely on Him, there is nothing I can do to save myself. It just reiterated what I knew and that He wants to be the Remedy. He doesn't just offer Salvation and then sits back and says ?Whatever... you have free will... you can do what you want.? He doesn't leave us to blindly find Him. God sends his Holy Spirit to draw us to Him. He desir...
Life from the Toaster
2007-11-19 20:49:00
Many people have asked us why on earth the blog is called "Life from the Toaster" They want to know if there is some special or hidden meaning that is derived from the title. So in answer to anyone who has asked or wondered about the title, here is the honest reason. Sarah could not think of a name and I wanted something that involved life and also sounded rather cool. Thinking along those lines the first thought in my head was life from the toaster. In Isaiah it says we are the clay and God is the potter. Our title is a bit of a humorous parody of that, we are the bread and God is the toaster. He is going to "toast" us much like a potter would put his pottery in a kiln. It may get hot sometimes but if we trust him we are going to end up as wonderful pieces of toast. :) Yes I know that sounds a tad weird, but next time you are going through a hard time just think of it as another experience in the "toaster of life"

Two stories today, both involving animals!Man Charged With Toad-LickingDavid Theiss, 21, was arrested after police said he was trying to get high with the Colorado River toad. Officers in Clay County said it is the first time they've ever charged someone with toad-licking. Residents in Kansas City said toad-licking is becoming more common. "People used to do it all the time, a long time ago, but it kind of faded out for a while. but now I think it is coming back as a fad," animal expert Danny Snyder said. "It is not a real smart fad, but it is coming back as one."The Colorado toad has glands that release venom strong enough to kill small animals. The venom also contains hallucinogenic chemicals, according to a UPI report."The toxins in it can kill a lot of things," Synder said.Runaway Pigs Lead Chase on Iowa StreetsDAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) ? Well... This is ironic
2007-11-16 03:27:00
Just a few minutes ago I was talking to william...waiting for him to play (and sing) a song that he wrote. The topic of blogging came up....I'm not sure if anyone noticed... but for that past week I was on a computer fast. I decided to see if I could go one week without going on the computer.. no reading blogs....no checking email....no computer access. My week ended today and William asked me if I had posted anything. My response was this: I think of really neat things to post all day long especially when I am driving, I'll kinda talk out my ideas. Then I will sit in front of the computer and click new post aaannnddd nothing comes out. Its like I have a great white fuzzy thing blocking me from producing coherant thoughts. But while I was waiting and waiting and waiting for William to show off his song a great Sarah moment happened, and I had to blog about it. This stuff seems to happen to me often..This pretty much sums it up....Don't pretend to play your brother's eletr...

A thought on food and the movies
2007-11-15 21:55:00
You are sitting watching a movie and the actors on screen are cooking a meal or eating, or for that matter, just ordering food at a restaurant. Then, for reasons unknown, even though you are not hungry, hearing about or seeing the food makes your stomach growl and from some hidden part of your body you instantly start craving whatever it is that is on the screen or being talked about. "YES", you may say to yourself, "This has happened to me!" You may wonder why the film studios torture their poor film viewers in such a manner. I too, used to wonder why they put mouth watering food on screen but today as I ate my lunch I came to the realization that is is all PETA's fault. PETA you may ask, yes, PETA! The People Eating Tasty Animals organization. I am not sure what their agreement is, but it seems to me that PETA must have some type of deal with Hollywood by which the studios show the actors eating and enjoying great tasting animals! I urge you to write PETA and tell them to remembe...

Cell Phone Tip #53
2007-11-14 19:51:00
Texting someone "call me" is NOT a good use of a text message! If you have the time to text "call me" then you most obviously have the time to just call the person you are texting rather than texting them to call you......One more texting tip, don't text while in any type of music lesson! Oh and don't text while driving!

I am sure everyone has seen this set of humorous church bulletins, either through an email or posted somewhere. I was reminded of them several nights back when Sarah was talking about how she had seen them posted in a local college. I just thought I would share. ( Sarah wanted to post them, but she is currently on a computer "fast" for some strange reason.)Thursday night - Potluck supper. Prayer and medication to follow. Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say "hell" to someone who doesn't care much about you. For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs. The rosebud on the alter this morning is to announce the birth of David Alan Belzer, the sin of Rev. and Mrs. Julius Belzer. This afternoon there will be a meeting in the South and North ends of the church. Children will be baptized at both ends. Tuesday at 4:00 pm there will be an ice cream ...
Of alternators and dead batteries
2007-11-11 22:26:00
Thursday evening I got a call from my dad asking if I could pick Sarah up. It seemed the truck she was driving was giving her issues and rather than continue driving it, she parked it and called my dad. Friday morning the truck was towed to a nearby shop and looked over. It seemed the alternator had decided to die. That afternoon they replaced the alternator and the truck was good to go, since I had been planning to use the truck on Saturday we just left it at the shop overnight.Saturday morning arrived, I dropped my car off at my grandparents and hitched a ride up to the shop where the truck was. The plan being to use the truck to haul appliances to the dump from the "Dumpster house" I arrive at the house and start to clearing out more junk. Around 12, we load up the appliances, and head to the dump. Since it is lunch time, on the return from the dump we decide to stop at a McDonalds for lunch. I get out of the truck and immediately realize that my front driverside tire is leaki...

A man was arrested for drug possession after telling authorities that two masked gunmen had stolen 150 pounds of marijuana from his home.Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies arrived at the home near Penitas in South Texas to find the door kicked in and nearly 15 pounds of pot lying on the floor, Sheriff Lupe Trevino said.Jose Guadalupe Flores, 35, escaped while the men ransacked the house but returned later and told the deputies he had been wrapping the drugs for shipment when the intruders arrived."The guy walked right up and said the drugs were his," Trevino said. "That's not the smartest move."Flores, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was charged with felony possession of marijuana at an arraignment hearing Monday. Because of his immigration status, Flores will be jailed until his case is heard.Authorities were still searching for the gunmen.

World Pie Championship!
2007-11-08 17:56:00
This mouth watering news out of Scotland, the World Pie Champ ionship has started!! This competition with over 70 bakers and butchers taking part is something that sounds like it would be an awesome event to judge. To walk among rows of beautiful pies, to smell their wonderful aroma waifing through the room must be a glorious experience for the judges! Just so you know these are not plate sized, fruit pies that are sweet as one might think. They are small enough to fit in your hand and are filled with meat and a carefully blended mix of spices and herbs as well as other ingredients. Mmm, just thinking about this is making my stomach growl. Some pictures:
Bananas
2007-11-07 18:14:00
I rather like bananas, besides tasting good in things like smoothies they also are a good source of potassium. It has come to my attention however that since 1999 banana purchasers in over 30 states have been unfairly treated and have been the victims of a conspiracy to raise, and maintain banana prices at artificially high levels!!!!! This is a serious crime! Chiquita. Del Monte, and Dole, the banana importers for the United States have betrayed the trust of their banana customers by violating anti-trust and consumer-protection laws in their evil scheme to fix our banana prices!Since our family has probably purchased hundreds of dollars worth of banana since 1999, when I first heard about this class action I was pretty happy since I figured we would get something, maybe free bananas for a year! :D But no, that is not what the courts ruled. Rather Chiquita. Del Monte, and Dole, have to provide America's Second Harvest (A national foodbank) vegetables and packaged foods with a retai...
Huckabee for President
2007-11-05 21:49:00
Yup that is right, I am making a post about the upcoming election. In just under a year, we in the United States will have our 55th presidential election. You might be thinking to yourself, "uh yeah, it is one year away, why are you posting about this William?" That is actually why I have not posted this earlier, I figured I would wait until we had a year to go before the election. :DI guess a lot of people don't really start following the election and campaigning until after the respective primaries for each party. That is fine, but if you don't pay attention now, then you really will not have an idea of who to vote for in the primary! I am not going to try to convince anyone who they should vote for, but I am going to say who I think would be the best President out of everyone running. That is Mike Huckabee .You might have noticed the Huckabee for President image on the sidebar to the right, it has been there several weeks. You may not have heard of Mike Huckabee, most people ha...

Here is the dumpster early yesterday morning before we started emptying out the house:...and here it is 8 hours later. The good news is we cleared that whole dumpster out of the house! The bad news is we still have at least another half a dumpster to go before it is fully cleaned up!Some "after" pictures:While a hundred times better there, there is still some work to be done....In answer to the question put forth from several sources, here is some stuff I found while digging through the mess:Not that exciting eh? There was actually so much stuff we were clearing out, it just was hard to sift through it in search of things....We had wheelbarrows and a shovel and were literally shoveling the stuff from the floor to the wheelbarrow and then dumping it in the dumpster. Somethings of interest found, Maglite 3-D-Cell Flashlight, boy scout badges from the 1960-70s, some political pins, a silver tray, two Daniel Boone style jacket/shirts:Those are actually pretty cool, except they are both ...

Dumpster diving, house style!!!
2007-11-03 13:32:00
Today, I will be cleaning out a house that is in a word, chaos. Complete and utter chaos! Recently at work we have started buying foreclosed homes, fixing them up and then reselling them. That is actually how I got involved with my apartment I have posted about. Anyway we recently got a house that is a disaster inside, there is literally stuff everywhere! I am serious when I say you can hardly walk around without stepping on piles of junk. These are some some "before" pictures I took a while back:Oh yeah! :D Going have some fun clearing this stuff out! :p While I do like clearing out houses like this, it would just be another day of work and probably not half as fun if not for the fact that anything I find I get to keep!!! Councilman Wants Pigeons on Birth Control NEW YORK (AP) ? A councilman has a unique solution to reducing the pigeon population at the Staten Island ferry terminals: Put them on birth control.Councilman James Odd says OvoControl-P, a drug that renders pigeon eggs unhatchable, could help to thin out the pesky birds and thus the droppings they leave behind inside the terminals where they like to nest.Oddo says the drug ? which would be mixed into standard seed ? has not yet been approved for pigeons by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. A similar product meant for geese was given the OK last month.I just have one thing to say, did it ever occur to the Councilman to maybe teach the birds abstinence?

Back in the blogging saddle....
2007-11-02 15:20:00
I have not posted in a week! Yesterday, I thought about blogging about the visit we had with our friends, Anja and Olivia, but it would be hard to describe their visit in one post. I decided I would just post some pictures, but Olivia beat me to it on their blog so if you want to see some pictures right now go there. ;) Sarah has told me she is going to upload some pictures onto our blog tonight so keep an eye out.. Actually there is one story I want to share about an adventure we had on the interstate....We are on I-85 cruising up to DC, 80mph, suddenly a car switches lanes in front of me. I gently tap my brakes and we slow down to about 76mph, the car in front of us speeds up and I push down on the gas to speed up as well. Except the car does not speed up, if anything the car seems to slow down more! 73mph. Since I am driving their car, not mine, I figure my foot is still on the brake. 68mpg. I glanced to the floor and realize that I actually do have my foot on the gas! 64mph. Ha...

Well here is a post of randomness of things that I have wanted to get out but they either have not fit into other posts or there is not enough of a subject to make a post about...So..I am leaving this afternoon for a Men's retreat and then when I get back tomorrow some friends from out of town who are going to be staying with us for a few days will be here. Sitting at a computer typing my thoughts is low on the totem pole when there are friends over so there probably will not be any new posts from me until Wednesday of next week. Actually blogging is low on the totem pole regardless if we have friends over. Yes I like it but I don't have to be online or on a computer all the time. If tomorrow every computer just died, I could go on living perfectly fine. People today are too in love with technology.... SILVER SPRINGS SHORES, Fla. (AP) — A suspected thief trying to help himself to convenience store goods instead wound up crying for help after becoming stuck in an air shaft for 10 hours.Jeffery Mumani, 25, was rescued Tuesday. He removed an air conditioning cover at a CVS store Monday night and tried to enter the store via the shaft but became trapped, Marion County Sheriff's Capt. James Pogue said. He began calling for help about 8 a.m. Tuesday. "I heard a cat in the thing. I was trying to chase the cat," Mumani told the Ocala Star-Banner. He denied attempting to steal prescription drugs. "No, sir, it's a feline cat — a little animal." It took firefighters an hour and a half to rescue Mumani, but he suffered only minor cuts and was in stable condition, Fire Rescue spokeswoman Heather Danenhower.Mumani has been charged with commercial burglary, possession of burglary tools and felony criminal mischief, Pogue said. Newboys -Remixed!
2007-10-24 17:36:00
In my never ending search for new and great music, I have come across several remix cds of albums that I liked. Not everyone likes remix albums, they take a song you might really like, remix it, and the result might be something you just totally hate. I personally like remix albums, I think it is really cool how people take a song and add or subtract from the tempo and/or rhythm and make it sound like a whole new song.Toby mac is one artist who has done this with his albums, he will release the regular album then a year or so later release the remix. His "Momentum" remix was not that great, but "Diverse City's" "Renovating Diverse City" is great and one of my favorite remix albums. If you like Toby Mac and have not heard it you should check it out. Sorry for that tangent :pThe Newsboys latest album, "Go" is one of their better albums at least in my opinion. The have the right mix of slow and up-tempo songs and it is a great album, especially if you are out running. The Newsboys hav...

It happened to me again!
2007-10-23 18:17:00
Last night I had a movie screening so I ate dinner at Burger King. I sit down with my whoppers and begin eating, all of a sudden out of the blue this old guy who was at a table next to me asks an open ended question about the drought we are in. Not wanting to be rude I answer him and we then proceeded to have a 10 minute conversation about rain, sprinklers, and grass!!! I think maybe I have an invisible "I will talk with you" sign on my head that strangers see or something.Or maybe these people are just lonely, and when I respond back to them they see me as someone who will listen and talk to them. I have always tried to be a cheerful person when I come in contact with people in the world. Virgina, this old lady at one of the local post offices calls me "Smiley" because she said it could be pouring down rain outside but I always come in with a smile. That is how I want to be, someone who is always cheerful, a reflection of God 's love in me. Sometimes though, when I am not coming in...

This is a bad picture as you can't really tell the size but I wanted to show you are almost directly across from the first bathroom:Looking back down the hallway toward the front door:I am not sure why it was designed the way it was, you have one good sized bedroom but the other two are pretty small, it would have been better I think if those two smaller bedrooms were ...

The boredom of a Saturday
2007-10-21 20:52:00
This past week my apartment was put up for sale. So far there have been a few people interested but not as many as I would like, to try to get some more interest yesterday I had an open house. It was rather boring, I just sat in my apartment with no furniture but the chair I was sitting on. Because Nick had basketball and I was his ride there, Nick also had to sit in my empty apartment. :p It actually was not as bad as it sounds as I was able to watch a movie when no one was looking at the apartment which unfortunately was most of the time....So besides having to sit around all day, I did not even get to talk to very many people about the house, well except for Ray.Ray was this older gentleman who showed up about two hours into the open house. He is a mortgage broker and was just stopping by to look around the apartment. After he walked around and looked, I guess he had nothing better to do because he and I then proceeded to have a conversation that spanned everything from computers...

Seems lots of people wanted to be stupid this week so here are several stories:LAFAYETTE, Colo. (AP) ? A little goofing off during a break from work led to a time-consuming, embarrassing ordeal for a Wal-Mart employee. Authorities said the man got his right index finger stuck in an oval-shaped hole of a cast-iron picnic table outside the store.Co-workers tried in vain to help the man get free before help was summoned. A half-dozen firefighters and emergency workers responded. They freed the man by cutting a square out of the tabletop, then slicing through the metal around his finger.Lafayette Fire Department Assistant Chief David Friedel said the unidentified man was OK, except for being upset, shaking and embarrassed about the ordeal. Friedel says the man told him it was an act of "stupidity." The man's name was not released.ATHENS, Ohio (AP) ? Music while kitchen cleaning should not be too loud
2007-10-19 16:48:00
My sister Molly always seems to be finding cds that we have not listened to for a very long time and sticking them in the cd player. Last night, I somehow ended up in the kitchen cleaning by myself. As I am thinking about music, in waltzes Molly, she puts cd in the cd player and Christmas music comes blaring out of the speakers!! Christmas is after all, only 66 days away! She actually had picked one of the better Christmas cds we have because it had one of Toby Mac's Christmas songs which of course made us need to turn the volume up to get the full effect of a Toby Mac song. :)So I clean the kitchen with a little bit of dancing and Molly dances around (I am not sure why she was not helping me in the kitchen) as we listen to Christmas music pounding from the speakers, "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" never sounded so good. This continues for a few minutes and then abruptly the music disappears! "Hey who is messing with the music" I say turning away from the sink only to see my mother w...
