Taking Classes

I’ve started weekly dance classes last week with Joseph at DanceKool. Everyone there is basically asian - Teachers, students… Well it is in Chinatown. I’ll be learning Hip Hop, Locking and maybe Popping. I initially wanted to do 10 classes a week for a month, but Joseph didn’t want any of it. Sigh.

Summer Luau @ Space

[Leadup] I was planning to go to V Bar. The email said “Free before 12PM” (Of course, they meant AM). Then within the email there was another mention of “Free before 12PM”. However there was another mention of “Free before 10.30 and discounted entry thereafter before 12″ I sent a guestlist in with the copied and pasted “Free before 12pm”. I was notified entry was free only before 10.30PM, with discounted entry thereafter before 12 “PM”. Hanh and Jon were going to Space . Jon was going to pay for entry. I really had no other option, I was too lazy to check out another club. [Summer Luau @ Space] Cover Charge - $25 Crowd: Asian Atmosphere: Okay. Loud. An opening night needs something special to attract people. Something enticing.. [Bligh Hotel / Bar] 2a Bligh St, City (http://www.thebligh.com.au) Bligh is a small sized venue, and is basically a bar during the day. On entry are stools and tables. There is an open floor area at the back with some side lounges. DJ booth at the back. It’s a nice venue. [ Rise @ Bligh Bar ] Entry: $15, Free if on guestlist organised before midnight. Occurence: Monthly Crowd: Euro Music: RnB and Dance Atmosphere:  Despite the nice venue it was lacking a bit of something - enough people. I didn’t go clubbing this weekend! My 6 month streak has been broken. Noo!! Friday I worked until 2am. Saturday I was with An, Hanh and co, and we did a party and karaoke. No time for a club. Not even Shark Bar. Just some silly dancing from me while helping serve the birthday cake at the party, and a bit of dancing with some of the guests. I was going to head to a Sunday club, but I got stuck in the kitchen all afternoon (ha ha - yes, I hear you laughing), nullifying any continuation of the 6 month streak. I’m pretty upset about it. Well not upset, but it would have been good to brag that I went clubbing 52 weeks in a row instead of 26 weeks. 6 months is better than 99% of the population I guess. So to start again, I’m going Indian clubbing next long weekend with Mithilesh and Patrick. Bought the tickets so there will be no change of plan. Leadup: Night at the Roxy After a casual dinner with friends, me and Martin decided to go to Roxy Hotel’s “suburban” rnb Friday night for clubbing. He hadn’t been for ages. The line was massive but progressed quickly. They were making sardines out of us. “I’m sorry. I cannot allow you to get in tonight. You’re dressed too casually” What? I can’t remember much, except it was a lot of drinking at roof, CBD and Slip Inn. I met with joe about midnight and didn’t go to Pavillion because they were cover charging tonight. Lead Up Suzanne unofficially broke up with her boyfriend Tim. A night out at a gay bar or at the cross was put on the table. She was keen. She also invited Alisha, David, and Tim the now unofficial ex. None of my personal friends were eager to hang out with me at the cross with a bunch of people I didn’t really know. Pre-dance warm up It was Saturday . 11pm. I had just left a Muslim wedding, thinking it was going to be a Hindi one with song and dance. Well, it was Muslim, and apparently Muslims don’t dance at weddings. So I was somewhere between campbelltown and liverpool, grass and cows in between. I needed to dance. There was apparently a place in liverpool (nox?) but I couldn’t find it. The closest good venue was Roxy at Parramatta. Here I go. About Roxy Saturday tonight I’ve covered Roxy before so here are the essentials: Cover charge: $10 Crowd: euro white Atmosphere: cool. Empty though. I got a guestlist for my friends birthday!’… Wow! A change of venue. I’ve always wanted to go. It was a definite yes. About Famous What: Originally from Melbourne, this weekly event has only recently made its Sydney debut a few months ago. Music: House, but played by good DJ’s. I don’t know anything about the DJ scene as I just go for the experience. There are three flavours of house tonight. There’s the current trend of electro house in the main room. Then in the other two rooms there is a slow ambient kind of house.. almost SHE-like, and another more experimental garage house to best explain it. Cover Charge - $25. $20 on guestlist. Preplan: Tracey’s farewell party was on at Verandah bar. Alcohol guaranteed and clubbing afterwards at the same place, so here we go. About verandah bar: Entry via elizabeth or castlereigh st. Normal hours its a bar and place to have lunch and dinner socially. On entry is a narrow area which leads to the main dance area, cleared f its stools and tables with a podium next to the DJ booth. On the right is a circle shaped bar. Along the back is an outdoor area for smoking and chit chat. This helps sets it apart from other small venues. Its nicely done, and the atmosphere seems nice, modern and never seedy. Despite the small size of the place. The layout minimises crowd bottlenecks, which I am a total fan of. About the event (I suspect it was called ‘JAM’): Crowd: Asian crowd. Cover charge: was probably $20 with $15 if guestlisted. Free entry if you get into verandah bar before 9pm, which is when the doors are shut off. I totally recommend doing this if you plan to go...

Meiny and Dania invited me for clubbing tonight. It was a university event @ Docks so young girls guaranteed. Indonesians though. Hmm, I had no idea what kind of quality they were. Oh well, I had to go ! About Glow What: A once off Indonesian student event. Entrants get glow sticks and party with UV light. Music: RnB and Minimalist House Crowd: Young and Indonesian (Indo as they like to be called for short) Cover charge: Ticketed event. $20 for members of the Indonesian society organising the event. Otherwise it’s $25. About Docks Hotel : Located at Darling Harbour, it’s a long stretch with two areas on each end. On one end is a dance area and a carpeted lounge. After an expensive dinner at a Korean BBQ restaurant followed by heavy drinking, two of my high school friends Patrick and Mithilesh wanted some free clubbing action. It was going to be a tight ass night (again) I knew Pavillion was packed on Saturday nights so off we went. ~Midnight: Pavillion Hotel A Quick Summary of Pavillion Saturday nights: I covered this in some earlier post so in summary, Pavillion Hotel means: - rnb and hip hop with some pop songs - free all night - dark and packed - mixed crowd of Aussies/Asians/Indians - cheap alcohol Once we got in, we went straight to the dancing. I spent a lot this week, so I was going for a tight ass night. To make sure of this, I went on my own because as we all learned a few weeks ago, lazy friends will otherwise pick the closest club and you gotta pay premium. Not that I’m against my friends – I’ve promised to go clubbing with them next week. So in my world tonight, I was entitled for a tight ass night. Initial attack: Create a guestlist for UN Nightclub . Line up at 9.30 and get in before 10.30 for free. (A few weeks ago, lining up at 10pm was a bad idea since the line was already 1 hour long).
