Be a Hermit, Amy. Be a Hermit.
2007-04-13 13:19:00 Yesterday was gorgeous. 70 something, sunny - perfect day to go play outside. I, however, was too busy moping to go out. I miss Andy. I keep waiting for him to come home... like "oh, I'll wait a little longer and decide what to have for dinner when Andy comes home." But of course he never does, and then I never get dinner. Before he left he did give me something to 'remember him by' a nasty sinus infection... which probably contributed to my not enjoying the lovely weather. Also? The house is still full of boxes and in no sort of order and I can't very well go out to play when my house is a mess. Plus, I had such a hideous day on Wednesday - I thought it would be better to stay indoors. Just in case. I didn't want to tempt fate.Today is slightly cooler and I'd felt like it might be okay to go outside... until I looked at the calendar and saw that it was Friday the 13th. So. I'll probably just ... 2007-04-11 22:00:00 You: Oh, hi Amy! How was your day? Me: Bah! Absolutely AWFUL! Worst day I can remember! You: Oh geez - I'm sorry to hear you h-Me: It was horrid! Murphy's Law Day! Mine was crappy.Sorry you asked yet? Yeah, yeah. Sorry for blowing-up at you. I just really did have a very bad day. I won't go into detail because most of it was personal and also because if I rehash the whole thing now I'll probably just end-up even more upset and then I might smash something - and it might be something important. Like the blender - and then how would I make milkshakes I ask you? Hmmm? I'd have to go to McDonalds - and once your at McDonalds it's not like you can just order a shake. Life in The Labyrinth
2007-04-10 19:03:00 I know what your thinking "Amy! Where have you been?! Why haven't you posted in sooo long?" Let me start at the beginning... Sometime between when I last posted about him and now, Andy left. I had to take him early, early in the morning so he had time to get himself situated and paperwork done. It was horrible. When I was awakened (a short 3 hours after going to sleep) I was just in the middle of a wonderful dream about going to McDonald's. Although I was angry about having been yanked from my dream, I took him anyway. We arrived at the drop-off point well before dawn. As I sat staring off into the darkness a distant light caught my eye. Across the parking-lot. It was a McDonald's! The lights were blinking on! Splendid. Andy agreed to stop over at the McDonald's first to see if it was open. Sadly it was not, and I took Andy back over to where I was leaving him and said good-bye.As I drove off I... Straight Out of Cape Cod - We're Keepin' It Real!
2007-04-06 16:21:00 On Wednesday our furniture arrived. It came on a truck in 3 giant wooden boxes. I told the movers not to unpack the boxes and just put it all in the living room because I felt bad for them since it was raining and we are on the third floor. They seemed pleased by this, yet still worried that it wouldn't all fit. I explained that we don't have a lot of stuff and told them I was certain there was enough room. I mean, our old house looked practically empty even after we'd unpacked. I guess I didn't really take into consideration that our old house was roughly two and half times the size of our new apartment (three times the size if you count the garage and outdoor living area). Although everything did fit per se, it did NOT all fit in the living room. It sort of filled the living room, the hall, the bed room, the kitchen, the dining room and the balcony... we are now in the process of trying to clear at least enough room so that... Thursday Thirteen #10: Thirteen Things That Suck About Moving
2007-04-05 18:17:00 Thirteen Things That Suck About Moving 1. Cleaning the old house. And not just a regular cleaning, the SUPER MOVE-OUT cleaning. The one where you find out just how dirty your house really is. 2. Not having your stuff. During the move you don't have all your stuff with you. If you want/need something you've packed - your out of luck until you unpack. 3. Memorizing a new address. This may seem like something people over the age of 5 should be able to do with no problem, but with everything else that's floating around in your head during such a busy time it can be hard. Then when someone asks you where you live, you give them a blank stare and they think you are a weirdo. 4. Having no furniture. I guess this could have gone under 'not having your stuff' but really being without furniture really sucks and I think it should have a category all it's own. 5. Changing your address. At the post office and then with ALL your bills and your friends. The sad part is you may ... More About: Hat , Thirteen

Weird News
2007-04-04 01:30:00 (AP) A former inmate told police that he was a werewolf and could change shapes after he was arrested for breaking into a woman's apartment. Robert Marsh, 39, appeared Friday in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court on charges of criminal trespassing, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana. Marsh had been drinking heavily and claimed to be a werewolf and involved in a witch religion, the woman told police. When police arrested Marsh, he told them he was a werewolf who could change forms, the complaint said.I didn't make that up. I guess the guy was all "Sure you can cuff me if you want Officer, but I feel it's only fair to warn you, I am a werewolf and therefore capable of morphing into a wolf and eating your face. So. It's your call."In Amy news: Today Andy, Keith and I went to see Pan's Labyrinth. Finally. I'd wanted to see it since it was in production. It was defiantly worth the wait. Very good. ... Cherry Blossoms
2007-04-01 23:12:00 Yesterday afternoon Andy and I went to the Virginia Beach Cher ry Blossom Festival. We decided this Cherry Blossom Festival was better than the one in DC for several reasons:A. It was not in DC (DC makes Andy crazy.)B. It was held at a cute park where Andy I used to hang out when we first ran-away together. (Other features of said park include a Japanese Garden, a Rose Garden, a Fragrance Garden and a baseball diamond where Andy used to play baseball when he was a little boy).C. In addition to the live music and beautiful blossoms there was a Samurai sword demonstration.Unfortunately, we missed the sword demonstration. Although he really wanted to see said demonstration, after an hour Andy said he couldn't take any more of the 'Japanese Hippies' and we left, but not before we got some photos:Cherry Blossoms .More Blossoms...The Japanese Garden.Exhibit of rare Japanese snacks (you can only get them at the commissary... the grocery stor... Dumpster Diving
2007-03-31 18:56:00 So - since the movers came and took our things last Wednesday, Andy and I have been eating, sitting, sleeping, watching TV etc. on the floor. When we first got to the new apartment on Tuesday, I noticed a couch and two big fluffy chairs out by the dumpster. Every day that passes without furniture, those pieces begin to look more and more like something I would like to steel (and heft up to our top floor home). Andy mentioned the possibility that they could be covered in something like cat urine, which I said was nothing a little Lysol and Febreeze couldn't remedy. Then he offered the possibility that they could be covered in something far worse like cat hair, which I suppose is a real possibility, and something I wouldn't risk bringing into my home even if I had all the benadryl in the world.*sigh* hurry-up and get here furniture! Bumps and Bruises
2007-03-30 22:48:00 Last Friday (one week ago), after we went out to dinner with the married sailors, we went over to the barracks to hang-out with the single sailors. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, there was much beer (and also cheese and pepperoni) involved. What I did not mention was that we were sitting outside in a pavilion where smoking is permitted. This being so, there were two ashtray-thingies... the kind with the long tube on the top into which you place your cigarette which is then collected at the bottom. To clean-out the trays, the long cone part on the top must be removed, so the ashtrays are really two pieces (I didn't know this before last Friday - I suppose if I'd thought about it I could have figured that part out, but I've never given much thought to ashtray cleaning or construction). Anyway - there was one boy sitting, smoking and drinking who had obviously had more than his fair share of the beer. I could tell because he could not foc... More About: Bump

Internet Curse Prevention
2007-03-29 13:18:00 My sister tagged me. I'm supposed to list 10 weird things about myself. The original post did not mention what would happen to me if I did not follow through on posting 10 weird things (which makes me nervous because the severity of internet curses can range from 'You Will Have A Bad Day' to 'You Will Be Stabbed To Death In Your Sleep' to 'Your Domain Will Be Deleted' (the horror!) So I've chosen to err on the side of caution and proceed with the posting...10 Weird Things About Me (in the order that they come to me)1. I have a lizard. I've kept lizards since I was 2.2. I order kids meals at fast food places (not because the adult meals are ginormous - I'm sure I could finish one, their main ingredients are fat, salt and sugar. My favorite things! - but because I like the toys that come inside. No, really.)3. I taught myself to knit (because my mother gave-up on teaching me after 7 short hours. Thanks ... New Apartment
2007-03-28 01:01:00 This morning Andy woke-up at 05:30 (because that is what time we normally get up), took a shower, got dressed, realized that we didn't have to check out of the hotel until 11:00 and got back into bed. Jeans and all.I'd planned on sleeping as late as possible. As it happened 'as late as possible' was 08:00. I laid in bed trying fruitlessly to will myself back to sleep for a good 30 min before giving in to the fact I was indeed awake. Finally I got up, showered and dressed - played on the internet and then woke Andy around 10:00. We checked out of the hotel and headed over to the apartment. After filling out some additional paperwork and a lengthly walk though (during which the maintenance man showed us in great detail where all the smoke alarms are, how to open the flue in the fire place, the circuit breakers etc.) We got the keys and the apartment is officially ours. The maintenance man (Billy) had let us know that all the kitchen appliances and... 2007-03-26 22:52:00 Last night was our last night in the Dahlgren house. We arranged to give our tons of unopened food to a neighbor (because we are not wasters) and cleaned the house. I mean we CLEANED it! Scrubbed, Vacuumed, cleaned the oven - it was gorgeous. Someone could move in tomorrow and not know there had been anyone there the day before. AND the whole ordeal only took us until two AM! This morning we packed our stuff and our lizard into the car and this afternoon went to the housing office to check out. We had mis-calculated the amount of our pro-rated rent for the month of March and ended-up paying $100 less than we'd expected. SCORE!By one PM we were on the road. (Our plan was to drive down to Virginia Beach today and get a hotel room for this evening since we aren't scheduled to move into the new apartment until tomorrow.) We arrived at the ocean front at about three PM and decided to find a hotel, check-in and then get ... More About: Crap
Amy vs. The Washington Monument (round 49,340)
2007-03-25 00:11:00 Friday afternoon after Andy'd finished checking-out, we were ravenous. It was two in the afternoon, we'd been up since six and hadn't eaten a thing. Delirious with hunger we went to the Taco Bell drive-through and ordered $20.00 worth of food. We parked in the Taco Bell parking lot and began stuffing our faces with a myriad of pseudo-Mexican concoctions. The Mexi-Melt, the Mexican Pizza, the Cheezy Gordita Crunch etc. Half way through the enormous bag we gave-up. It was just too many tacos.Later, Steck came over with McManus' truck to help Andy move the washer and dryer to the neighbor's house. He also suggested that he, his wife, Andy and I go out to dinner that evening with the Taylors. We agreed that six would be a good time to go and that we should all meet at Applebees.Andy and I decided that to kill time until we were supposed to meet everyone for dinner we would go to a pet store in Maryland to visit the chameleon we would ... We're Going! We're Staying! We're Going!
2007-03-23 11:35:00 As you may (or may not) know, Andy's command took it's sweet time issuing orders to his class. As a result, when we finally did get them we were left with mere weeks to organize our affairs and find a new home in Tidewater. Lucky for us we were able to arrange for the moving to come get our stuff on short notice and lease an apartment using only fax, phone and e-mail (because we are awesome and because we already know the area). As of last week we had the lease signed, apartment paid for and our washer and dryer sold to our neighbors. As of Wednesday the movers had come and were en route to our new home with all our worldly possessions.Thursday morning we received a rather disturbing phone call from Andy's command telling us that there was a problem with his orders and they had been canceled. After learning this piece of information my mind was all aflutter. What? Canceled? But our things are en route to the apartment we've a... More About: Stay , Going , Goin

2007-03-19 13:45:00 365days (the daily self-portraiture project I've been working on since October) has come to a premature end. Having been busy with moving and getting our affairs in order I haven't had much time to work on it. In fact, I haven't up-loaded (or taken) a self portrait in over a week. It was fun while it lasted, but to be honest with so much of my time and efforts concentrated elsewhere it's taken a back burner. I may take it up again after we are situated in Virginia Beach, but for now I'm on indefinite 365days hiatus. This weekend was a bustle of getting Andy's sea bag in order (which included my hand stitching new rank patches on EVERY SINGLE UNIFORM HE OWNS!! A labor intensive chore which could easily have been avoided by Andy not moving up in rank so often - FYI next month he will, again, need all new patches sewn on), deciding what goes with the movers and what comes in the car with us, terminating utilities and services here and hooking them up ...
Be Ware The Ides Of March
2007-03-16 11:54:00 According to my High School Latin teacher, "The Ides of Marc h " does not necessarily mean the 15th of March, just sometime in the middle (after all March has 31 days, so really the dead center of the month is March 15.5 - technically speaking of course) and there fore my blog title is completely appropriate for something posted on the 16th of the month - for those of you who had your doubts... but on with the post:Of all the months in the year, March is my least favorite. Other than St. Patrick's Day (a wonderful holiday if you ask me! Never a better reason, or more valid excuse, to pinch friends and strangers) nothing good ever comes out of March. Let me explain... for the first part of the winter season I am usually looking forward to seeing lovely twinkling Christmas lights, excited by the prospect of snow, happy to gorge myself on steaming bowls of soup and mugs of hot chocolate (with tiny marshmallows of course), and glad to be wearing cute sweater... 2007-03-13 20:11:00 Last night we went to visit Lindsay and Pat. They had both been sick for the past week and this week both of their kids came down with the cold they'd had. Dispite being sick, the boys are both still cute - especially Logan who is looking more like a person (and more like Lindsay) everyday. I held the baby for bit (until he started fussing when I immedietly handed him over to Pat) and Lindsay took some pictures of me with the boys. Today Andy and I got to go and arrange for the movers to come and take our stuff. We had to do this at a different base to which Andy was given a crudely hand drawn map. I decided to look-up mapquest directions (just in case). About 30 min into the trip we discovered some discrepencies between the hand drawn map and the mapquest directions, but managed to find our way anyhow and made it to the moving office only 15 min after our appointment. The entire ordeal only took about 30 min, so afterward we de... More About: Tuesday
Beach Week(end)
2007-03-12 16:45:00 Saturday morning we decided to go to the beach (eventhough after picking-up a USB cord the printer worked just fine). We left around 9:00 and made it to the ocean front around 2:00 (thanks in part to the efficient jiffy-lube employees who managed to strech a job that usually takes 15 min into a job that took 2 and a half HOURS). Anyway, it was warm and sunny and beautiful out. There were even some brave souls who were actually in the water! After hanging out at the beach and going for a walk along the ocean front, we swung by the apartment complex we'd been considering and fell madly in love with a different complex on the way. Eventually we made it over to Jen's. Andy's mom was at work, so we decided to see a movie. Andy had been excited to see 300. It was a little bloody for my taste, but I will say it was visually interesting. After the movie, Andy's mom called and gave us directions to the karaoke bar where she was with ... Printing Troubles
2007-03-10 01:45:09 The printer Andy and I have is something of an antique. It's over 3 years old, and almost completely useless. Can't copy. Can't fax. Doesn't print photos. But, for the most part, if you need a Word document or a spreadsheet printed, our antique printer will do the job. Like many other important pieces of old junk, we hadn't bothered to unpack the printer after our last move. Until last night, we'd had no need of it. So anyway, last night we were sitting around talking about going down to the beach tomorrow to check out some apartments when it occurred to me that "Hey! If we can fill out the necessary paper work (which is available on the apartment complex website) today and have it with us when we go, if we like the apartment we can just give the filled-out paperwork to the management saving us valuable beach time which could be used for hanging out at the oceanfront!" RIP Seniore Milo di Pesci
More articles from this author:2007-03-07 13:42:01 Oh. My. Gosh. I am a murderer. It was a total accident, but none the less I've just ended a life. It all started when Andy came home for lunch. He remarked that Milo 's (my fish's) bowl was dirty. And it was. I'd put some live plants in there for him to enjoy. He liked hiding in them and they also produced oxygen for him to breathe. In addition, they caused algae to grow all over the sides of his bowl and his rocks, and also on the surface of the water forming a nearly impenetrable skin. Well anyway, usually when I cleaned his bowl I would scoop him out with a cup, then dump the water, clean off the plants and the rocks, then wipe the sides of the bowl with a paper towel before replacing the rocks, plants and fish. But today, I was in a lazy mood and when Andy went back to work I thought "Hey! I bet I could just tilt the bowl in the sink at an angle where the dirty water will run out and at the sa...
