Keeping this blog on track, and its sense and sensibility
2008-01-01 16:43:00 Blogging intent dilemmaI?m caught between making sense in my blogging and monetizing it. The money is there. Extra money on the wallet is not bad at all. In fact, I earned an extra $1,000 in the last 45 days since I monetized this blog. However, with that, now I am confronted with the issue of putting forth more time in this activity rather than my work. Very tempting. At the rate I am going, I might be able to break the $5000 mark in the next 45 days ?easily. Then, I might as well turn this into a career, huh.Am I still making sense?Blogging to make sense (not only money), you have to take your readers seriously. Commenting back is only one thing. The burden is on writing quality and sensible posts regardless of the issues or topics (including intents and purposes) at hand. When people read your blog, they are actually inviting you to influence. When they read and leave their comments or reactions, you have actually impressed on them something of value or sometimes, of no value... More About: Sense , Blog , Track
My Sensible Financial Plans for 2008
2007-12-30 02:40:00 My finances, since I quit the corporate world last year, is in shambles. There is a huge difference between earning a fix monthly salary and a project-based income. As my projects begin and terminate at different intervals and dates, so is my income there from. I must admit, I have mismanaged my finances this year. I have to rectify this before I run into big debts. Here is my three-pronged sensible approach to a well managed finances this coming new year:1. Priority SpendingNeeds should always take precedence over wants. I will make it a discipline to separate the wants from the needs. Spending unnecessarily on things just to satisfy our cravings can easily ruin our budgets. You enjoy now, for a moment, then suffer later, for a long time. This can be avoided by prioritizing our expenditures on those things that are really needed. Do I have to buy a brand new car today, or settle for my reliable old car? Should I replace my old flat TV with the latest HDTV in the market? ... More About: Financial , Plans , 2008
A New Year?s Resolution: Finding and Fixing Attitude Problems
2007-12-28 00:44:00 Mistakes are often easy to identify. Therefore, we can correct them and take steps to prevent them from occurring again. An attitude problem, on the other hand, is more difficult to recognize ?especially if it is your own. ?Anonymous (actually, I don?t know where I got this. I wrote this on a Mc Donald?s burger wrapper. ^_^)Good Attitude versus Bad AttitudeAnything can be taken from a man except the freedom of choice. However, that freedom is usually dictated by his attitude. A good attitude is a blessing. A bad attitude, on the other hand, spells trouble. A good attitude can build relationships while a bad attitude can ruin friendships, families, and communities. A good attitude can build a successful career, while a bad attitude will lead you nowhere. A good attitude surmounts problems and convert them into opportunities for personal growth, while a bad attitude whines and succumbs.Fixing Our Attitude Problems Attitude problems, especially ours, are too tricky and they go unnoticed... Are you a mule, a dog, or a monkey?
2007-12-27 10:19:00 God created the mule, and told him, "You will be Mule , working constantly from dusk to dawn, carrying heavy loads on your back. You will eat grass and you lack intelligence. You will live for 50 years." The mule answered: "To live like this for 50 years is too much. Please, give me no more than 20." And it was so.Then God created the dog, and told him, "You will hold vigilance over the dwellings of Man, to whom you will be his greatest companion. You will eat his table scraps and live for 25 years. And the dog responded, "Lord, to live 25 years as a dog is too much. Please, no more than 10 years." And it was so.God then created the monkey, and told him, "You are Monkey . You shall swing from tree to tree, acting like an idiot. You will be funny, and you shall live for 20 years." And the monkey responded, "Lord, to live 20 years as the clown of the world is too much. Please, Lord, give me no more than 10 years." And it was so.Finally, God created Man and told him, "You are Man, the o...
Perfect Pasalubong
2007-12-26 18:49:00 My son is enjoying so much his vacation here in Honolulu with his cousins. However, in a week we have to go home, and I will back to my daily grinds at work. Arggh!!! How I wish I could have this holiday vacation extended. Nah. Wishful thinking.Another thing to worry about is the ?pasalubong? my friend and families are expecting from us. ?Pasalubong? literally mean "souvenir". In the Philippines it has acquired the meaning of a small gift or souvenir from someone travelling either whilst visiting or upon returning home. The literal meaning of pasalubong is to "greet", "surprise" or "meet with" (Wikipedia). Okey, okey I had you an overdose of the etymology of the term. What could be a perfect ?pasalubong??While I was browsing over the internet, my sister-in-law suggested that I consider Plush Robes. They have an array of women?s bathrobes that feature extra-ordinary comfort and absorbency. She said, that would be an ideal ?pasalubong? for mom and my sister. The price tag, though a ... Air and Furnace Filters
2007-12-26 15:28:00 Indoor air quality is as important as the outside?s air quality. We tend to neglect it. We thought that keeping our home heated during winter or keeping the ambient temperature low during summer days is enough. Our ventilating, heating and air conditioning system must not be able to maintain only the ambient temperature inside but they should be able to deliver quality indoor air all the time. Hence, air and furnace filters must be checked regularly, and replaced if needed. A furnace filter is good only for 90 days, give this it?s due attention especially this winter. Clean air is something we all need for a healthy home environment, keep it clean inside the home and out.Kindly visit these cool BLOGS too: ^^, Yuppies caFe HRM Business Practices Briefs More About: Filters
An Alternative Approach Against Drug Addiction
2007-12-25 15:23:00 Drug Addict ion : Not a medical issue? Some say that drug addiction is not a health or medical issue that can be analyzed clinically. IMO, this is true in some respect. Like, alcoholism, drug addiction is actually both a physiological and psychological problem. The risks of developing drug addiction in a person is bigger under some certain social and personal circumstances. Circumstances can be of different types, magnitude, and/or condition. Bad influences, family issues, career problems, and peer pressures can all be traced as roots to drug addictions, and alcoholism as well.A physiological and psychological conditionDrug addiction is the condition or state, when drug users become drug dependent and they lose control of their cravings or needs for drugs. This dangerous habit becomes enslaving, and will eventually be deterrent to the victim?s emotional control, rational capacity, and decision-making abilities. There is no simplistic approach. Drug rehab is required. Competent and ... More About: Alternative , Drug , Alterna
Redesigning and Renovating My Kitchen in 2008
2007-12-24 04:45:00 Before, I never really paid attention how our kitchen looks until I started learning how to cook. Now, I figured it needs a good make-over. That is going to be on my priority list come 2008 .Would a unique and traditional post & beam concept for a kitchen design look cool? See the picture above? That?s exactly how I want my kitchen to look. Simple yet elegant. That?s one of the projects Vermont Timber have done in the past. Incidentally, this company offers outstanding custom timber frames and post & beam frames for residential and commercial projects including homes, hotels, churches, barns and more. Surely, these people can concretize what I want my kitchen to look and feel.Any ideas guys? How do you want your kitchen to look? I know, the design or the ambience that the kitchen do not influence how good your cooking is, however believe me when I say, the kitchen can enormously provide the right mood for your cooking spree.Have your say please.Happy holidays!Kindly visit ... A Single Dad?s Homelife Tale
2007-12-21 16:14:00 A single Dad?s life is exciting in a lot of ways. I have learned to cook, and seems to be doing it well ?no one is poisoned yet ^_^ , and I want to keep it that way. My son, anyhow, seems to have developed a liking to my ?cuisine.? (Poor child, he has to suffer the role of a genie pig every time I experiment on a new recipe I got from blogs I read.)Another, I have learned to budget house ?operational expenses?, which includes paying bills, groceries, the nanny, my extra-curricular activities (fewer dates, nowadays! *sighs*), pimping my car, etc. One interesting habit I acquired is keeping and using coupon codes and trying free samples. Sheews! Yeah, I do. Especially when I do my my weekly de tour to the supermarket or making purchases online, I make use of grocery coupons. Mind you, I am saving a lot. Funny, before I just take these things for granted, but now I collect and use them on my purchases. Isn?t that amazing. Wouldn?t that make me more appealing to the ladies ... Brand New Car or Used Car?
2007-12-20 15:51:00 My Honda Civic has served its tour of duty well for the last five year and needs to retire, and surely needs to be replaced. I am still undecided though. Not on the issue of replacing it, but on whether to get a brand new car or a second hand. With the high inflation rates hitting us, the interest rates for auto loans have skyrocketed too. I cannot afford that. Unlike when I was working in the corporate setting, my salary is fixed but now, less than a year of working as a freelance consultant, my income fluctuates from month to month. Thus, getting a car loan is a very tough decision to make. However, before the decision to make an auto loan, I should really decide whether to get a used car or a brand new one. What are the considerations that I should take into account? I have never bought my own car before. The companies I served have always provided me the company car to use or through a comprehensive car plan as part of the manager?s perks. Hmmm. I think, this time I shoul... More About: Brand
What makes you happy?
2007-12-20 10:25:00 I wonder if Bill Gates is really happy right now being the richest living man today. If Mr. Bush is really happy today being the most powerful man on earth? If Ophrah is really happy being the most popular TV host in the history of television? This may be considered a non-sensible reflection, albeit is a valid one, don?t you think? We are all in pursuit of happiness in our own ways. Some would even shed blood for it. Some would go to the length of abandoning their families and friends to find real happiness. But ultimately, the question is what makes us happy? Charles Kingsley observes,"We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about." Is that it? Finding something to be enthusiastic about will make us really happy? Again from Leo Tolstoy, who according to Martin Amis, who is the only author who have written convincingly about the subject of happiness, said:Seize the mome... More About: Happy
Gratifying Little Guilty Pleasures
2007-12-19 02:12:00 One of my little guilty pleasures is watching DVD movies on my old SonyTV. I can virtually sit in my sofa and watch movies all day long. Yeah. Sometimes, it is one way of relieving my self from the angst and anxieties of life. It is also one of my coping mechanisms when depressed and very angry. Lately, it is more fun with my son on the side. Last Sunday, we almost viewed all the Pixar?s and DreamWorks movies until he dozed-off to sleep. You should see the delight in his eyes watching "Finding Nemo."This Christmas, other than buying myself a new laptop as a gift for my year?s labor, I could not help but day dream of owning a brand new 70-inch Sony Flat Panel. Huh. Forgive me. This is my way gratifying my cravings for high-def movies. Besides, my son will be more delighted. Look! Who wouldn?t drool over that tv? To date, the 70? Driving around New Zealand
2007-12-19 00:41:00 One of the best vacation destinations in Europe is New Zealand . Its spectacularly beautiful landscape includes vast mountain chains, steaming volcanoes, sweeping coastlines, deeply indented fiords and lush rainforests. To enjoy these nature?s wonders best is by driving around the country side. There?s no need to worry about where to stay for the night because Hotels in New Zealand are strategically located. However, if you prefer touring New Zealand?s famous cities, Hotels in Auckland, and Hotels in Wellington are most recommended. As for me, I would love to explore the country side. It is said that New Zealand is a haven for those seeking peace, rejuvenation, and relaxation as well as a playground for thrill seekers and adventurers. A temperate climate with relatively small seasonal variation makes it an ideal year-round holiday destination. Driving through their narrower and steeper roads will be most exhilarating, although extra cautions must be exercised at all times. But no ...
What? I cannot hear you! You were saying?
2007-12-18 06:35:00 How many times we've heard the maxim, "I cannot hear you because your actions speak louder than your words?" Or in a preacher?s parlance, ?walk the talk.? They mean the same thing that is communication is more than the spoken words; it includes everything about the communicator. Most of us failed to realize, or probably ignore, that in communicating, our actuations, facial expressions, emotions, our appearance, our bearing, and even the way we live serve as contexts for our message. They are inseparable. Edwin H. Friedman said it aptly:"The colossal misunderstanding of our time is the assumption that insight will work with people who are unmotivated to change. Communication does not depend on syntax, or eloquence, or rhetoric, or articulation but on the emotional context in which the message is being heard. People can only hear you when they are moving toward you, and they are not likely to when your words are pursuing them. Even the choices words lose their power when they are use... Effective Business Information Sharing
2007-12-17 07:00:00 I communicate with most of my off-site personnel through my mobile phone. It is costly and sometimes inefficient. Details of projects being implemented, and other important points or things that needed to be discussed and illustrated are sometimes described inaccurately. I have always thought that the best solution for this is installing a Video Conference System that will facilitate these important exchanges of information. A Reflective Sunday: What Matters Most
2007-12-16 16:49:00 While trying to take a rest from a hectic week of meeting clients? deadlines, it started me reflecting about putting too much time and energy on my work. Yeah, I needed to make a living. Then what? Is there all that is in a man?s life? To toil, toil, and toil, in order to find rest at the end of the day? Spend his spoils and toil again? Ah! Forgive the pun. Is there really a higher purpose in these?I just remember Leo Tolstoy, one of my favorite authors, told the story of a rich man who was never satisfied:He heard of a wonderful chance to get more land. For a thousand rubbles he could have all that he could walk around in a day. But he had to make it back to the starting point by sundown or he would lose it all.He rose early and set out. He walked on and on, thinking that he could get just a little bit more land if he kept on going on. But he went so far that he realized he must walk very fast if he was to get back in time to claim the land.As the sun got lower in the sky, he... More About: Sunday , Matters
Confession of a Single Dad
2007-12-16 07:46:00 Okey, I have to admit that being a single dad sometimes is a disadvantage when you are looking for a woman friend. While there are a lot of available chat lines to tap to look for that special woman to befriend, it is still not easy. It takes more than a couple of times of phone chat to decide if it is worth the while to really go out with somebody and take the next step. On the other hand, free chat could be a good beginning for getting out of my shell and socialize over the phone, and prolly from there find my match. Panama: A Great Place for Real Estate Investment
2007-12-16 05:20:00 Whenever I hear about Panama, I cannot help but associate it with the famous man-made Panama Canal built by the US army from 1900 to 1914. The Panama Canal (Spanish: Canal de Panamá) is a major ship canal that traverses the Isthmus of Panama in Central America, connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It has had an enormous impact on shipping between the two oceans, replacing the long and treacherous route via the Drake Passage and Cape Horn at the southernmost tip of South America. (Wikipedia)Since opening, the canal has been enormously successful, and continues to be a key conduit for international shipping. Recently, the Government of Panama approved an ambitious plan to expand the Canal. The project, which is to begin in 2007 and could double the Canal's capacity, is expected to be completed in 2014-15. With this development comes a good opportunity for real estate investments and vacationing. Panama real estate MLS ha a lot to offer in Panama, which is now ripe for real e... Christmas Blues and Christmas
2007-12-13 16:55:00 12 days to Christmas . I am so excited for my first trip with my son. But as the day approaches and Christmas carols reverberate more frequently in the neighborhood, especially at night, I cannot help but be depressed ?this is my first Christmas as a single dad. Ahh! The year had passed so quickly. Although, I take comfort that my sibling will provide a shelter for me not to feel blue this Christmas. While we are at it, may I ask: What is Christmas really? How do I tell my son about it? What is so special about this season? In the Christendom, that is easily answered by virtue of the birth of the Messiah, the savior of the world. I hope that is the real focus of our celebrations. But really, in a different context, what is Christmas? Why celebrate? This season is being celebrated universally. Why is that? Is it because Chritsmas carries with it an aroma of love, joy, peace, and reconciliation which we never experience or probably ignore throughout the year? Can we not have the s... More About: Blues
Money Talk: Bad Credit Loans
2007-12-13 04:59:00 More and more people are suffering from the chronic problem of bad credit loans. IMO, this is but one of the symptoms of a materialistic society and the morals of keeping up with the Joneses. Forgive my cynicism there. If you can afford to spend, that should be not a problem. But if you are a person who works for others to earn a living, that is entirely a different story. If you can help it, don?t get into debt. Live within your means. Should you need to make a loan for emergency needs, compare credit offers before signed that application form. Because getting another bad credit loan will only give you temporary relief, and financial head aches in the long run in repayments.Kindly visit these cool BLOGS too: ^^, Yuppies caFe HRM Business Practices Briefs More About: Credit , Money , Bad Credit Loans , Loans , Talk

Fortunately, today and with the advent of the internet world making friends with strangers seems to be easier and quick. The Gift of Life
2007-12-12 07:11:00 I have been a pro-life activist all my life. In fact, my son is one marvelous gift from God and a testimony to my fight for the dignity of life and the right of an unborn child to live. Why am I saying this, you may ask? I am saying this because I was moved by an unsolicited email I got. This morning, I was ridding my emails of junks when one of them, out curiosity, beckoned to be opened ?which I did. Now, I don?t know to whom the credit is due; permit me to post this here:A picture began circulating in November. It should be 'The Picture of the Year,' or perhaps, 'Picture of the Decade.' It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the US paper which published it, you probably would never have seen it. The picture is that of a 21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by surgeon named Joseph Bruner. The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb. Money Talk: Problem of Poor Credit Rating
2007-12-10 17:12:00 Managing your personal finances well is absolutely necessary to a healthy lifestyle. You cannot sustain an above average modern lifestyle if you run into several debts that give you a poor credit rating. This will ruin your lifestyle entirely. If you are already in this kind of ugly situation, what are you going to do about it? Or, how are you going to get out of this financial mire? There is one reliable means to rectify this (that is, assuming you have no other source of funds that can easily bail you out of this messy financial situation) through Consolidation Debt Loans. How do you proceed with this solution? Consolidating your debts would mean taking another Personal Loanthat will pay for all of your debts, and you will be left to manage the payment of one single loan. Also, this would also mean that you will no longer bear the pains of paying accumulated interest rates being charged from you several lenders. The immediate result, Bad Credit Loans paid for, once and for... More About: Money , Talk , Problem , Poor
Bridling the Tongue: The Lost Art of ?Shutting-up?
2007-12-10 16:18:00 When you have nothing good to say -keep your mouth shut! Silence is always a better alternative. Better than kind words, with well meaning intentions, said at the wrong time. Or harsh words that may further cause pains, which are by the way, hard to heal.According to an ancient proverb: It is a lot easier to bridle a horse than a man's tongue. Alas! How true! Well for one, history can speak for itself, harsh words prompted the world war II and wreaked havoc to the world and almost the annihilation of the Jews.Words kill, yet it can also bring life. Words wound, yet it can also heal. Words can make one grieve, yet it can also cheer a downcast soul. And more. Silence, can't bring and give neither of those. But silence, sometimes is the best stance when words fall inappropriate. Silence breaks the emotions, so that it can give enough time for one to contemplate his or her words and actions.Learn to bridle your tongue.
