Money Talk: Worthy Investment on your car
2007-12-09 23:52:00 Ah! It is the time of the year again to renew my car registration, and with it a new comprehensive car insurance. Car registration fee is higher by 10% this year compared last year, and more, I have to pay for a new auto insurance coverage! I am not griping here, as my tone may indicates. Auto insurance, for me, is one of the good investments you can give your car other than ?pimping? it with costly (aesthetics) accessories. True. This particular insurance, other than it is required by law when you register your car, it will save you a few hundreds or even thousands on car repairs caused by unwanted accidents.Every year, it has become a ritual for me to ask my staff to solicit car insurance quotes so that I can choose what the best coverage for my cars. Car insurance, if you don?t happen to know, covers not only repairs or damages caused by unforeseen and unintentional happenstances but offers liability protection. Meaning to say, if you have an accident and another person is inju... More About: Money , Investment , Talk , Worthy , Wort
Fascinating City of Toronto
2007-12-09 18:40:00 Toronto is one of my dream vacation destinations in Canada. A few friends and relatives have already made permanent their residency there. During occasional gatherings, they would give tales on how fascinating that city is. Incidentally, that fascination is beautifully described at Toronto Bed and Breakfast. A great blog to peruse if you want to have a glimpse of the city?s life and lifestyle, sights and sounds, Toronto hotels and restaurants, and many more. One of the must see bars in one of many elegant hotels in Toronto is the famous Melody Bar of Gladstone Hotel. The blog best described that place here:With walls paneled in rich wood, alabaster lamps hanging from the 10-foot ceilings, fat Romanesque pillars, and an original 1930s wooden bar, the Melody Bar isn?t so much nouveau retro as a rollicking saloon. Weekend karaoke nights have become the stuff of legend, with the host brandishing a giant APPLAUSE sign to stoke the crowd?an interesting hodgepodge of expertly coiffed hips... Getting Out of Addiction: Basic Considerations
2007-12-09 14:51:00 I had a friend who was once addicted to ?shabu? or poor man?s cocaine. I have seen how his health deteriorated, and how he became mentally demented. He was forced to abandon his budding career in marketing because of his addiction problem. What is worst -he lost his wife and daughter in the process. A typical story huh. Drug addiction and alcoholism are ills that continue to plague our modern society. These types of addictions know no bound or societal standing. They scourge both the poor and the rich. In spite of government efforts to eradicate the root of these problems there are still many who fell victim in this vise and needing complete drug rehab. How does one gets out of this rut? Here at least three basic factors that may help in the process of rehahabilitaion:I believe that the first step is recognition that one has this problem. As any other life?s problem, solving begins on the willingness to admit that there is a problem needing correction. Acceptance opens the... More About: Addiction , Basic , Consider , Addict
"Nothing happens unless first we dream"
2007-12-09 14:37:00 It was the American Poet and Writer Carl Sandburg (1878-1967) who penned those famous words, which serve well as good title for this post. True indeed. Success begins in dreams. As 2007 draws to an end, and another new year beckons, it is the time of each year that I take an inventory of what I have done or accomplished for the year. Big or small, written or not, I come up with a 3-column list to make my own appraisal. The first column would include my dreams and goals, both short term and long term. The second is labeled as action items. And the third ?Accomplished (?). Yeah, with the question mark. Because I simply want to put there after each item ?a cross and a check. This year, I must admit, I pared poorly. It is not that I failed to plan. Planning is second nature to me, especially in my kind of work. Besides, it is a shame to teach business planning and I don?t put them into action. Sorry, I digress. What I realized here is, I failed to tie up my action plans with the ... More About: Dream

Money Talk: Credit Cards Basics
2007-12-06 19:46:00 Credit cards can be both evil and good. Evil, if they are mismanaged they can literally bury you in debt. Good, if used wisely for the right purpose or occasion, they can indeed be beneficial. There are at least two important things that one needs to know about credit cards in order to properly manage them and serve your purpose, to wit:One, there are interest free credit cardsin the market. Pick them. If you have an existing credit card that charge higher interest rates, choose a credit card that allows balance transfers. Then consolidate your credit account into the one that charges no interest. Two, there are credit cards that serve your specific purpose/s. If you are a frequent shopper, or one who regularly purchase medicines, or perhaps a regular traveler ?there are credit cards that can specifically serve these, and and they charge lower or no interest. A Thirst for Forgiveness
2007-12-06 17:25:00 The story is told in Spain of a father and his son whose relationship had become strained. The son ran away from home and his father began a journey in search of his son. Finally, in Madrid in a last desperate effort to find him, the father put an ad in the newspaper. The ad read: Dear Paco, meet me in front of the newspaper office at noon. All is forgiven. I love you. Your father. The next day at noon, in front of the newspaper office, 800 ?Pacos? showed up. They were all seeking forgiveness and love from their fathers. It is quit obvious that many of us, if not all of us, desire to be forgiven. We are bound by our past mistakes, sins, and failures. However we want to move on, the unforgiving past behind can drag us back. ?It?s hard to say I?m sorry,? as the title of the popular song goes. Then, it is likely harder to say, ?Please forgive me??Out thirst for forgiveness can only be quenched when we ask for it in sincerity and humility ?there is no other way. People who withho... Companionship: A Basic Human Need
2007-12-05 16:23:00 Having someone wonder where you are when you don't come home at night is a very old human need. ~Margaret MeadI wonder why Maslow did not place that on top of the hierarchy of needs? Margaret, on the other hand, succinctly said it well.I am glad that when I do come home from a long day at work, my son is always waiting for me. Although, on most nights during the week, I normally arrives home late and he?s already sound asleep. What normally pricks my heart is when the nanny would tell me that he fell asleep on the couch waiting for me. Now, that is a father and son relationship. What I actually long now, especially this particular cold night pounding the keyboards of my laptop, in my empty office, is someone waiting and wondering what time should I be home and won?t eat unless I join her. Ahhhh! That is so frustrating to even think. Again, just another taunting thoughts.Kindly visit these cool BLOGS too: ^^, Yuppies caFe HRM Business Practices Briefs More About: Human , Basic , Companion

Raising a kid without a mom
2007-12-02 15:14:00 I am not complaining here, lest you construe I am. I never wanted this.I grew up in a strong family that values love and unity regardless of harsh circumstances. That love should be the main bonding agent for any healthy relationship. That love can help people to weather out any harsh realities in life and come out stronger ?together. However, it did not work for me. The most difficult part is having my son caught in between. I am forced to see these realities in an entirely different way.Providing for my son?s material welfare is easy. But providing for his emotional needs is another. He definitely needs his mom. The only consolation that I take from this, which is selfish actually, is he is with me, and come high waters ?I will stick it out for him. Nah! Forgive me for this too personal confession. A Reflective Sunday: Sayin? a Little Prayer
2007-12-02 05:58:00 Don't pray when it rains if you don't pray when the sun shines.~Satchel PaigeWhen was the last time you prayed earnestly to God, which is, praying in act of humility and worship? For quite awhile, I must confess, I stopped praying. It is not that I stopped believing too, it is simply an attitude toward it. For, like many of us, I pray this way more often:Prayer is JUST a way to ?place my order? with God. But that?s how some people pray. They pray only because they?d like to have something they don?t have. Only because they?d rather not have something they do have. Only because someone is bugging them and they need to have God straighten that person out. Only because they don?t want to have to go through the hard times. I don?t believe in that kind of prayer. ~AnonymousGod deserves more than being treated like a drive-through burger chain or a 24-hour call pizza delivery hotline. Humility: A Lost Art?
2007-11-29 00:15:00 We have prided ourselves to live in a society of educated, sophisticated, and modern people. However, does it justify our rudeness, our unforgiving attitude, or our self-serving personality? Humility is a virtue that needed to be rediscovered in our lives. It needs to be cultivated if we desire to live peacefully and in accord with our community. How do we start? We can start by being sensitive to others feelings and stature. To illustrate this point, I came across a story* about Professor Stuart Blackie of the University of Edinburg who, many years ago, was listening to his students as they presented oral readings. When one young man rose to begin his recitation, he held his book in the wrong hand. The professor thundered, ?Take your book in your right hand, and be seated!?At this harsh rebuke, the student held up his right arm. He did not have a right hand! The other students shifted uneasily in their chairs. For a moment, the professor hesitated. The he made his way to th... More About: Lost

2007-11-27 16:20:00 My son and I will be spending the holidays in Hawaii, hopefully. Mistakes: My Stepping Stones to Improvement and Success

Snowman in my son's room?
2007-11-26 01:03:00 I recently saw a TV commercial where a boy, in a tropical country, was seen playing at the front lawn with make-believe snowman. He was in a full-clad snow-attire with a matching pair of ear mops, while her mom, amused of his activity, thought of giving his son a surprise treat. She made a macaroni salad, to his delight, and the Father collaborated by showering the front lawn with fake snow as they were about to eat dinner. The boy was of course so thrilled and excited.Incidentally, my son, who was watching with me that time, was equally thrilled and amused about what he saw. That gave me an idea. Yeah. Why not recreate a snow-filled environment in my son?s room with InstaSnow, and build a huge hugable snowman there? I am sure he will be much delighted. Splendid idea! Kiss me on a Monday, for it is my Day of Rest
2007-11-26 00:32:00 You will find me odd, but among the days of the week, Monday is my considered day of rest. Well, I still go to work, or should I say, I still work. I am a freelancer and I am not tied-up with a 5-9 job. However, in spite of this, the pressure to get results is greater. So set aside Monday as my rest-day. Here are several reasons why:I do not set appointments on Mondays, unless necessary or I am obligated by a client.I spend half-day reviewing my previous week?s performance or accomplishments. You might consider that work ?I don?t. Reviewing allows your mind to slacken from the pressure of meeting deadlines and look on the tasks in a fresher way. It is not work.I spend the other half of the day planning and prioritizing my week?s tasks and appointments. That is not also work per se, at least in my perspective. It is said that 80% of our tasks are accomplished well on time if we spend at least 20% of the time planning (pareto principle in action , I suppose).Lastly, I spend ... More About: Kiss , Rest
Investing for the Unforeseen
2007-11-25 00:20:00 Some unforeseen events are inevitable in life. In fact, they are a part of our lives. They sometimes break our daily monotonous grinds. However, we always dreaded these unforeseen events. Even though life insurance, property insurance, home insurance, car insurance, pet insurance, travel insurance, etc., are readily available to us but ironically, only a few of us invest on these.Insurance is an investment of the unforeseen. This is our way of safeguarding our interest and that of our love ones. Insurance cushioned the impact of undesirable events. For example, a comprehensive insurance coverage for your car can actually saved you so much in cases of accidents for a little investment on the premium. Compare car insurance and get what suit you; and you might as well do a comparison for your other insurance needs.Take another look. A Reflective Sunday: Forgiveness
2007-11-24 23:53:00 "Without being forgiven, released from the consequences of what we have done, our capacity to act would, as it were, be confined to a single deed from which we could never recover; we would remain the victims of its consequences forever, not unlike the sorcerer?s apprentice, who lacked the magic formula to break the spell. "~Hannah Arendt Being forgiven and being forgiving are inseparable. No one who receives forgiveness can possibly deny others their forgiveness; it is the order of things, the natural law.We err because we are humans. We falter, we fail, and we commit unaccounted blunders, but each time we sought forgiveness from the Almighty, we are always forgiven. Hence, the same courtesy should be extended to others. After Thanksgiving Dinner Talks
2007-11-23 07:33:00 During the holiday, we have entertained many visitors in my folks? home. Friends and family members gathered for a thanksgiving celebration. What I always anticipated in that once a year gathering is the exchanges of talks, stories, informal planning for next year?s thanksgiving or for the Christmas holidays, and other personal developments on each of those who are present. Incidentally, this year the highlight of the after dinner?s discussion was on renovating houses, in this instance ?my folks? house, where I grew up, is the center piece. While my parents maintain a large house, we have not paid much attention to the 3 bathrooms located in each of the three bedrooms. When the issue came up on how big should a bathroom be, my sister offered to have the bathrooms renovated at her expense. I was relieved because I do not have to shed a penny. ^^,Her idea came about when she noticed that the taps on her bathtub were frozen already with rust and the fixtures needing replacements. ... A Thanksgiving Reflection: Why Does God allow Suffering?
More articles from this author:2007-11-22 08:02:00 It is Thanksgiving Day and everyone is supposed to be thankful but I had to raise this issue: why does god allow suffering? (I hope it did not ruin your appetite, forgive me.) The question I am raising is both a theological and a practical question, and needing an answer on both directions. Why does God allow pain and suffering if he is a just and a loving God?Have you considered figuring out why the children of a remote village in Africa are dying of hunger, or those from a hidden valley in India are plagued with diseases with no one reaching out for them. Is there an end on the middle-east conflict between the Palestinian races? Why does an innocent child contract HIV? A loving parent suffers from a malignant cancer? Have you paused to ask why these things are happening? Is it correct to suppose that God allows suffering arbitrarily? To me, this question raises even the issue on the existence of God. I will not attempt to answer nor pretend to know the answer on these issue... More About: Reflection , Suffering , Hank , Erin 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 |
