Water Melon anyone?It's been so hot and humid for couple of days now. We've been planting new flowers and shrubs in the garden. The humidity is killing us. Our sweat can water the new planted shrubs . Freakin' Hot! After a back breaking diggings, kneeling, and planting, a cold, sweet and juicy watermelon ease some thirst. Refreshing. I love water melon. When I was still in the Philippines, I used to buy it every now and then, especially during summer. maybe some people don't eat watermelon. I don't know. But I love watermelons. It' taste good and healthy because it has lots of lycopene, a key plant antioxidant that is famous for fighting heart disease and prostate cancer.

I am interested to read the new book of personal essays entitled Are You There, Vodka ? It's Me Chelsea written by Ms. Chelsea Handler. I love her razor-sharp wit that's why I'm sure her book would be fun to read. I heard her book is such a hit and is now included to the top of The New York Times best-seller list. Many readers have already said that the book is outrageously funny, no wonder it is at number one. I just ordered online one copy for myself. I hope I'll love it.

After the record smashing 97 million votes, David Cook was crowned as the new American Idol . Lastnight, David Archuleta enjoyed the praises by the judges, in fact Simon Cowell called it a "knock out" but the results didn't agree with him. David Cook won by 12 million votes difference.David Archuleta and David Cook are both talented and deserve successful careers. They are both terrific and each has their own style . Congratulations to both Davids!

Last night's American Idol Season 7 finale was a hot one. David Archuleta and David Cook their best performances but only one of them received three stellar reviews from the judges. In fact, judge Simon Cowell, called it a "knockout". I liked the silly boxing theme of the show. The opening of the show was so cool. The theme from "Rocky" played and legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer intoned, "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Nokia Theater L.A. Live and the main event. I saw this video (below) in Fox news. I felt so sorry for the girl but now, I am thankful for her life-changing surgery. This surgery will ultimately restore her face and her life. Cherrie Mae, a 13-year old girl from the Philippines, lost her nose to a rare infection (disease). She has traveled to New York City so that doctors may build her a nose. Thanks to all kind hearted people especially to the amazingly competent and talented doctors who are taking care of her case.

Photo Credit : WikipediaEvery May 14 and 15 of the year, some cities and municipalities in the Philippines, including the municipality where my birth parents are living , are celebrating a two days thanks giving fiesta celebration for a bountiful harvest, in honor of Sr. San Isidro Labrador (Saint Isidore the Laborer), the the Catholic patron saint of farmers. It's a fun celebration. Usually, the entire town is decorated for the annual feast and normally, a solemn procession marks the highlight of the occasion and other various cultural presentation. For many years now, I am not able to join my parents and my siblings for this celebration. I missed being able to pray and give thanks with them. I also missed the merry celebration, the food, relatives and friends. I am currently living miles and miles away from them but I'm joining them in my thoughts and prayers. My heart goes to the love ones and victims, to all people especially the poor children who have suffered or lost loved ones on the May 3 devastating cyclone that hit Myanmar , a country in southeast Asia, formerly known as Burma. (According to Wikipedia, the name of the country was changed in 1989 and and this change of name has been officially recognized by the United Nations). Published reports says the death toll gone up to 34,273. It also said Tuesday that the number of missing now stands at 27,838. According to United Nations, the actual death toll could be between 62,000 and 100,000. Good God!My deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their beloved members. My thoughts and prayers.

He named the newly discovered arachnid after his favorite singer/songwriter Neil Young , naming the spider, Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi.For those who are not familiar with Neil Young , he's now 62 year-old, a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician and film director, who rose to fame in the 1960's with the band Buffalo Springfield. His 1970's release album "Deja Vu" has become a classic rock album. If you recall, earlier this year, another species was named after another musician. I have not seen a Philippine Tarsier for real yet. I wish someday. I have a friend that took several pictures of this cute creature when he visited Bohol, and even in pictures I find them so adorable. Here's a video of The Philippine Tarsier (Tarsius syrichta), known locally as the Mawmag in Cebuano/Visayan. They are tiny, only measuring about 4 to 6 inches (15 cm) in height.
