something unique for Mother’s Day
2008-05-09 17:41:00
It’s two days away. What shall I give to the most important woman in my life? This, most probably, is what everybody is thinking right now. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I know many of you are racking your brains for the perfect gift. The malls and the internet are awash with ads of gift suggestions, mostly expensive. I have had my share of sleepless nights and dwindling budgets, but over the years, I have gradually realized that gifts for Mom need not be expensive. In fact, you don’t even have to buy one at all. You can easily make one and she’ll appreciate it even more. ... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

2 tags: the StumbleWorthy List & A Kid's Question
2008-05-09 09:31:00
This tag came from Liza of Mommy's Little Corner, and it quite easy to do. I read that it is possible to increase the traffic of your blog through StumbleUpon, so I have decided to try it out, with your help of course. Here is the concept: Stumble the pages that link to you. In this way you drive more traffic to the page containing your link and thus you hope that some of that traffic comes back to you via the link on that page. Supposedly, we are to link ourselves to Stumbled sites to generate the traffic that we want. But what if we could just Stumble on each other's sites/blogs? Let's... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

BlogUpp: a new way to advertise, FREE
2008-05-07 16:59:00
I just found a new advertising tool for my blog and, best of all, it's free! It's BlogUpp, the newest, easiest and hopefully most effective link and banner exchange in the blogosphere today. It's right there on my sidebar. Unlike most advertising and banner exchange schemes found on the internet, it's very easy to use BlogUpp. No registration is required. No email and ad submission either. All you have to do is to go to their site and key in your blog's URL. Afterwhich, a code that you can easily paste on your sidebar, or anywhere else on your site, will be generated. That's all. I... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

"let us complain less and give more"
2008-05-05 08:21:00
Sometimes we forget how lucky we are. Sometimes we look at the glass as half empty rather than half full, forgetting that there are millions out there whose glasses are always empty. While dropping Entrecards the other night, I stumbled on a site called Hot Topics. In its post entitled "The Truth About Life", I found riveting photos depicting the plight of many children today. It is a powerful photo essay reminding its readers how luckier they are than most, and why we should be thankful for what we have. How many times in the past have we complained about having nothing to wear, how our... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

did Hugh Hefner pull out Playboy Philippines?
2008-04-28 13:05:00
A comment from a reader (as it falls) immediately caught my attention. Rumor has it that Hugh Hefner saw the dismal first Philippine issue of his beloved trademark and he ordered a complete pull out! Wow, how embarrassing for the publishers if this turns out to be true. I tried to use good ole Google to search for some confirmation about this but to no avail, so far. Though the item has been circulating the grapevine for several days now (I?m always the last to hear about these things), nothing official has been announced. Maybe it?s a hush-hush issue considering the embarrassment it... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

Hall of Shame: Cebu Surgery Scandal
2008-04-24 15:20:00
Dr. Philips Leo Arias Dr. Angelo Alinawagan Dr. Max Joseph Montecillo Nursing Attendant Rosemarie Villareal Nurse Carmiña Sapio Read these names and remember them. These are the names of the medical practitioners involved in the highly controversial Cebu Surgery Scandal as released by the Department of Health through a news conference. These are the doctors and nurses who performed surgery to remove a foreign object (a perfume cannister) from a hapless victim's rectum, all the while laughing and ridiculing him while he lay there heavily sedated. link love & viral tags: just what I need
2008-04-23 09:14:00
After transferring to a new domain, building up a site's links should be the first thing to be done. Fortunately, I have three tags to start the ball rolling. The first is the "World Link Love " which I chanced upon while blog hopping, while the second and third tags were given to me by Dak and Liza respectively. I have tagged a random selection of friends, contacts and fellow bloggers for these three memes. However, if you also want to join in, by all means, be my guest and watch your site's Technorati authority increase. bloggers unite for human rights
2008-04-19 19:19:00
After three successful campaigns in 2007, a new challenge awaits bloggers on May 15, 2008. 'Bloggers Unite' has been officially launched to once again harness the power of blogging to make a single statement, to raise awareness on another social cause - this time it's the issue of human rights. There is a vast ocean of topics to choose from, a seemingly endless list of human rights concerns that beset our modern world. The more obvious of these are current headline-huggers like the plight of Tibet, the human crisis in Darfur or the continued struggle in Iraq. Surely, many will write about... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

doctor, doctor, YOU are sick!
2008-04-17 11:06:00
This is a story of one patient?s struggle against unprofessionalism and medical impropriety. I have great respect for doctors, and everybody else in the medical profession. I admire their skill, patience and dedication to their job. I have seen how some have neglected even their families in the pursuit of selfless service. As I child, I even dreamed of becoming a doctor myself, saving lives, helping the poor and wearing that immaculate white robe with a stethoscope slung around my neck! He he. Such are the aspirations of a child. Alas, hemophobia (fear of blood) got in the way! But as... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

I never thought HANDS-FREE BLOGGING was possible!
2008-04-15 12:44:00
Yes, you read it right. I would have called it ?blogging by remote control? but I think ?hands-free? is more appropriate. I never thought it was possible until I tried it (in desperation), using a ?device? that was under my nose all this time. You too can do it. I had to be resourceful. A case of stomach flu sidelined me over weekend, dashing hopes of another raucous night out with friends and engaging in my favorite activity at present, blogging. I was confined to my bed under strict doctor?s orders and was feeling helpless. However, I quickly found a solution. The flu might have... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

Immelman wins Masters: why it's a refreshing news for golf
2008-04-14 13:07:00
As I watched the coverage of the Masters , golf?s grandest tournament of all and one of the highlights of my sports calendar, the inevitable result brought a smile to this frustrated golfer?s lips. Displaying steady nerves and even steadier play, Trevor Immelman trounced the competition from wire to wire. And just when everybody, most notably the media, was endlessly harping on a Tiger Grand Slam, Immelman did it his way and was awarded the coveted green jacket with a score of -8, 3 shots ahead of the world's number one, and 6 strokes ahead of the world's number two. what? pardon for the Magdalo coup plotters?
2008-04-14 08:08:00
Unbelievable! That?s one thing I can say about this latest development I read in the news. I can say more, using words that aptly describe how I feel, but unfortunately, they?re unprintable. With the current buzz in political and media circles, it is apparent that our dear president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, will be pardoning the recently convicted nine Magdalo soldiers who plotted against her government in 2003 by forcibly taking over the Oakwood Hotel and demanding her resignation. Nothing official yet but both the Army Chief and the Interior Secretary have announced their... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

saturday photohunt: twisted
2008-04-12 08:16:00
For this week's theme, I found several things to photograph around the house, both pleasant and unpleasant. The first two are from the kitchen - a fruit basket made of twisted glass and a handcrafted coaster made of woven abaca (Manila hemp) fiber. The third one I found in the bedroom, behind the PC, printer, scanner and other gadgets stacked in one corner of the room. It's a twisted mess of wires and cables! Yikes! Don't worry, I cleaned them up right after taking this photo. I didn't realize it was this bad until I saw it this morning. SHOCKER: Michael Johns voted out of American Idol!
2008-04-11 07:25:00
Michael Johns kicked out of American Idol ? What? This is a shocker, especially to me since I was counting on Michael to land in the top three. Sure, I was not impressed by his rendition of Aerosmith's "Dream On" last night, but there are worse performers out there. Moreover, He hasn't been in the bottom three before so I assumed he had a fighting chance this week despite a weak performance. This is the biggest shocker yet! What happened? Had his followers become complacent and over-confident this week? OMG, I can't get over it. I am surprised that Kristy Lee Cook is still in there. ... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

beware of deceiving ads (posing as Entrecard widgets)
2008-04-10 17:39:00
Have you seen this ad? I?m sure you have, especially the avid Entrecard droppers among us. And the next question is, ?Have you been duped by this ad?? Well, if you?re an avid dropper, chances are you have been. This particular ad has been posted and well-placed in many of the Entrecard member sites I went to yesterday. Posing as an Entrecard widget, many droppers were tricked into clicking it and were thus redirected to its owner?s site. Bingo, instant traffic! I was deceived once or twice, but was more than alert to let it happen a third time. Naturally, I was pissed. I have no... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

hacking claims another victim
2008-04-10 07:56:00
The internet in awash with stories of hacking, from big-time corporate websites, government dotcoms or relatively smaller ones like blogs. I have read my own share of sad stories of personal pages getting hacked, with all their data destroyed beyond recovery. However, they didn?t really affect me. Sure, I felt sorry for these poor souls but they had no direct link to me or my site for me to be truly affected. Until now. Paul Potts made me cry
2008-04-08 13:03:00
Paul who? I?m sure many of you know him (after more than 23 million hits on his YouTube video) but that was my first reaction upon reading his name from a mobile phone text message a friend sent me earlier. I?ve never heard of the guy before, and certainly don?t know his story. ?He will make you cry? was the next part of the message, followed by ?just look for his video on YouTube and you?ll know what I mean.? Apparently, my friend was watching Oprah earlier today (probably a rerun) and Paul Pott?s video was featured there. do you drink enough water?
2008-04-07 09:58:00
As the summer rolls in, the hot and humid climate puts everyone at a larger risk of dehydration. This, my friend Sarah, found out the hard way. She was diagnosed with moderate to severe dehydration and had to be admitted to a hospital. Weeks (months?) of dieting and sun exposure (she?s a beach junkie) must have taken its toll. Moreover, her misguided fear of water retention has led her to drink as little of the valuable liquid as possible. Big mistake, her doctors say. With the onset of summer in our tropical paradise of a country, the intense weather will cause our body to sweat a lot... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

saturday photohunt: glass
2008-04-05 09:11:00
Is the glass half empty or half full? One of the most common questions asked to determine or demonstrate that a particular situation can be interpreted in two ways ? with optimism (half full) or pessimism (half empty). I have found myself in many of these situations, asking myself that familiar question. Unfortunately, the pessimist in me often saw the glass as half empty rather than the other way around. But over the years, I have learned. I have gradually taught myself to look at situations the other way around, seeing more of the opportunity and hope rather than the trouble and... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

I've got the music in me
2008-04-04 19:42:00
Being Pinoy means loving music. We seem to have this natural knack of interpreting the melody and lyrics of any song, be it rock, classics, jazz, rhythm & blues, or our sentimental favorites, ballads. Proof of this are the countless Filipino performers scattered all over the globe singing their hearts out to the delight of audiences. Another proof of our penchant for song are the numerous karaoke machines in bars, hotels, restaurants and clubs, not to mention personal karaoke gadgets in almost every Pinoy household here and abroad. These gizmos have helped produce dozens of Ramieles,... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

american idol results: Ramiele Malubay is Out!
2008-04-03 08:22:00
Well, we saw it coming. The result of the latest American Idol voting was no surprise for everyone, even for avid Pinoy followers of the show. Ramiele Malubay is out of the competition after receiving the least number of votes. Does she deserve it? Yes, definitely. And that?s coming from a Pinoy who, at one point, was hoping (and praying) that his compatriot will make it big in the popular talent search. Ramiele had shown so much potential, so much promise at the start of the final round that even odds makers were betting on her to win, even as David Archuleta seemed to have locked the... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

Ellen DeGeneres wants Arnel Pineda!
2008-03-25 14:56:00
I was watching Ellen last night and this caught my attention. She was talking about Simon Cowell and his usual meanness this season on American Idol, showing clips of the (in)famous British lambasting hapless hopefuls on the hit show. She then segued into Arnel Pineda's video and how she wants him (and Journey) on the show. Watch this: So there, Arnel Pineda will be in Ellen soon. pinoy scandal: an update on the Gucci Gang exposé
2008-03-22 16:11:00
It has been almost two weeks since this scandal hit the country?s internet headlines but there are no signs that it is fading, dying a natural death as some involved parties had hoped. On the contrary, it seems to be gaining strength, much like a typhoon gaining second wind after its opening salvo almost fizzled out. Brian Gorrell?s blog, exposing all the sordid details of his involvement with the now infamous Gucci Gang (they?re in Wikipedia!) and the deceit that followed, is now the toast of the blogging world (and the envy of every blogger) with more than 70,000 hits per day! the Binibining Pilipinas 2008 controversy
2008-03-10 15:06:00
First of all, to my non-Filipino readers, the Binibining Pilipinas is the annual beauty search that chooses the country?s official representatives to the Miss World, Miss Universe and Miss International pageants. And in a country where people are crazed about such competitions (apparently rivaling South Americans), this annual event is eagerly anticipated. Winners are immediately hailed as the country?s brightest stars, with the prospect of bringing home an international crown. An unpopular choice, on the other hand, would surely elicit complaints from the ever-critical populace. This is... continue reading this, and much more, at keyboard monologues...

My apologies for being absent for the past two days as I have been hampered by bouts of severe toothache. Yes, toothache, the mother of all bodily aches and pains. I am sure many of you understand what I'm going through as you have been in similar, if not worse, situations. amazing race asia finale: I knew it!
2008-02-14 15:18:00
. I just finished watching the final episode of The Amazing Race Asia 2 and the result was disappointing. The Filipino pair of Marc Nelson and Rovilson (forgot his complete name)didn?t win as expected. In fact, they came in third, their lowest finishing rank for any leg of this season?s race. I?m sure every pinoy who followed this race was heartbroken (on Valentines Day!), expecting their team to win. But it was not to be.
