Ten Commandments of Goal-Setting
2007-10-04 13:19:00
"A goal without a plan is just a dream".NOTHING in life happens without goals. Nothing ! When you get up in the morning you have a goal of making it to work safely and having a productive day. When you go on vacation you have a goal of having fun. When you get married you have a goal of making each other happy. Everything you strive for is goal driven. And, as a result, the manner in which you go about achieving these goals is is CRITICAL !!!That having been said, I would like to share with you what has become known to me as THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF GOAL SETTING...1. THOU SHALL BE DECISIVE: Success is a choice. You must decide WHAT you want, WHY you want it and HOW you plan to achieve it. No one else can, will, or SHOULD do that for you. It's your goal and your responsibility.2. THOU SHALL STAY FOCUSED: A close relative to being decisive, but your ability to sustain your focus from beginning to end determines the timing and condition of your outcomes. Don't let outside d...

Donny Osmond on Having to be Perfect
2007-10-02 23:21:00
In 1972, I was in love with Donny Osmond . I was a teenybopper but that is not why I want to talk about Donny here.I watched him on Biography Channel when he revealed his social anxiety disorder and the panic attacks he suffered. After a lost decade in the 80s, he won the part of Joseph in the London show of "Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat". The show became very successful with Donny in the lead role for six years. He had known how hard it was to restart his career after losing it and so developed the idea that he had to give a perfect performance every night because he was performing for standing room only audiences. He would beat himself up mentally if he made any mistakes as he told himself he had to be perfect. He did not want to lose his career again. He went in to therapy with medication. He was scared to go on stage, even though he was delighted that he had his career back.He pinpoints the attitude of perfectionism to the early days when the Osmonds appear...

When the Why is Big Enough
2007-10-02 11:11:00
To succeed in anything, especially something that requires change from the current situation, we must have a WHY that is big enough.? What is it that gets you so excited you can't sleep at night? ? What is the real reason for you becoming what you want to be? ? Why do you want to break out of the rat race and achieve your freedom? When the WHY is big enough, the HOW doesn't matter! Any obstacle can be overcome if you know WHY you want to overcome it.When you decide to make changes, people around you will feel uncomfortable as you are challenging their comfort zones. You are going against the norm and they will try to keep you as one of them. They may laugh at you. They may tell you are crazy to even imagine you could achieve what you want. They may tell you that you are just dreaming and will never be able to do that something different. It will take guts to stick to your plans, your wishes, your hopes and dreams. You will need to be laser-focused. Others will try to stop you...
Kind Words Do Not Cost Much
2007-09-27 10:36:00
"Kind words do not cost much. They never blister the tongue or lips. They make other people good-natured. They also produce their own image on men's souls, and a beautiful image it is." Blaise Pascal, 1623-1662, Scientist and Philosopher I remember the positive experience gained early on a personal development course. We were asked to come out to the front of the group one by one and the rest of the group were invited to look at the person intently and read into their soul then write down positive, empowering traits of the person's character. Group members were very insightful in the characteristics they found which were quite deep, not just superficial glib suggestions. Each person was given the list to take away. I have lost the list unfortunately but I remember that whenever I read it, it empowered me so I considered it a gift.A woman once said that "We spend 80% of our time complaining about the 20% of someone that we don't like, usually our spouse, instead of focussing ...

The 4 D's for Change
2007-09-25 15:50:00
I found this on a website and thought it was useful:No one migrates toward change until these 4-"D's" are a condition of their lives: 1. Discontent: (to the point of total disgust).2. Desire: (dissatisfied enough to be willing to do something about it).3. Due Diligence: (willing to take the time to enter into a process of investigation to determine their options).4. Discipline: (to go through a process from start to finish). If YOU lack discipline, work with a mentor until you have developed disciplineas an unshakeable conscious habit! "God?s gift to you is moretalent and ability than youwill ever use in one lifetime.Your gift to God is to developand utilize as much of thattalent and ability as you can,in this lifetime."

Passionate curiosity of Einstein
2007-09-11 17:26:00
?I think and think for months and years. Ninety-nine times, the conclusion is false. The hundredth time I am right.?- Albert Einstein It took years for Einstein to formulate his theories of special and general relativity. As he himself said, it was through ?no special talent? that he unlocked these insights into how the universe works, but due to his ?passionate curiosity?. Einstein thus found the will and inspiration to persevere, transforming physics and how we look at our world. Now, I?m no Einstein, and you?re no Einstein, but what could you or I create if we had the same perseverance and ?passionate curiosity? as he?

Taking Action
2007-09-11 11:32:00
A poor, hungry young man sat moping on a bridge, watching a group of fishermen. Looking into a basket and seeing a bunch of fish nearby, the young man said, "Boy, if I had a mess of fish like that, I'd be in good shape. I'd sell them and buy some clothes and something to eat.""I'll give you that many fish if you do a small favour for me," a fisherman replied."Sure.""Tend this line for me awhile. I've got some errands to do up the street," said the older man.The young man gladly accepted the offer. As he tended the man's pole, the fish were really biting and he reeled in one fish after another. It was not long before he was smiling, enjoying the activity. When the older man returned, he said, "I want to give you the fish I promised so, here, take all the fish you caught. But I also want to give you a piece of advice. The next time you're in need, don't waste time daydreaming and wishing for what could be. Get busy, cast the line yourself and make something happen."******...

?Don?t have a wishbone where your backbone should be!?
2007-08-22 17:15:00
There is an old story about a man who went to a tattooist because he had always wanted a tattoo of a lion on his back. The tattooist started to sketch the tail into the man?s torso: ?Ouch! What are you doing?? asked the man. ?I?m doing the lion?s tail? replied the tattooist. ?Well then for goodness sake let?s have a lion without a tail!? said the man, wincing in pain. Next the artist set about on the Lion?s whiskers. ?Ouch!? cried the man, ?What?s that?? ?The whiskers!? said the tatooist, getting increasingly irritated. ?Well let?s have a lion without whiskers!? moaned his customer. The tattooist then set about doing the Lion?s back. ?No that hurts too!? shouted the man. At this, the tattooist finally lost patience with the man's lack of self discipline. Throwing down his tools and the man out of his shop he shouted, ?How can you expect to get what you want without a little discomfort??Self-discipline is the keyTo achieve what we want will involve self-discipline to take us out of...
When "I Wish" Becomes "I Will"
2007-08-22 15:03:00
"The most important thing in life is to stop saying 'I wish' and start saying 'I will.' Consider nothing impossible, then treat possibilities as probabilities."- David Copperfield, Magician"I wish I could lose weight.""I wish I could stop smoking.""I wish I could exercise regularly.""I wish I could read a book a week.""I wish I had more customers.""I wish I could visit my family in Australia.""I wish I could afford to send my children to the best school.""I wish I could speak Spanish, type faster, bake cakes, prune my roses ...""I wish I could give up my job and work for myself."So what is stopping you?YOU.We all have the same 24 hours per day and roughly the same number of brain cells combined with physical and mental capability. The difference is what we do with these resources. Other people are turning the "I wish" into "I will" and so can you. When Anthony Robbins was at his lowest point in his life, 38 lbs overweight, living in one room and working as a janitor, he realise...

What Would You Change Right Now?
2007-08-21 19:32:00
" What would you change right now, if you knew you could only succeed?!"That is quite a challenging question because it is so much safer to sit in our comfort zone and not change anything, often from an underlying sense of failure. But what if,1. You could cold call that company because they want to say yes to your product or service?2. You could enrol on that language course because your natural ability to learn languages will shine leading you to fast fluency?3. You could take up a new sport or creative hobby knowing that you will be good at it?4. You could pick up the phone and ask someone on a date then find they have been secretely hoping you would call?5. You could decide to finally stop smoking because this time you will stop.6. You could start a weight loss and fitness programme because you will find a new sense of achievement and commitment. So what makes you think you are going to fail anyway? How will you know if you do not take the decision to change and show commitment?"...

You Make Me Mad
2007-08-21 19:09:00
The only person who can make you mad is you.The only person who can make you feel inadequate is you.The only person who can make you feel unhappy is you.The only person who can make you feel jealous is you.Life is unfortunately full of events which make us feel emotions but other people do not make us feel in any specific way. Only our own reactions to the event cause our bodily functions to remain calm or cause us to lash out in defence. We learn responses from our upbringings and many negative feelings arise from a fundamental insecurity. If we feel secure about ourselves, if we are confident and value ourselves, how can we allow someone else's comments or actions to make us feel negative?"A minute spent in anger is 60 seconds of happiness lost."- Ralph Waldo EmersonIt seems that the more angry someone becomes, the more childish they react. Some people even go red in the face and cannot even stand anymore. That is because, in the moment of their reaction, they go back to the ...

No more excuses - How to overcome procrastination today
2007-08-21 17:13:00
People become stuck in a lifestyle of procrastination because they believe their own excuses for not taking action. Procrastination is the main reason that people fail to live richer and more fulfilling lives. If you are stuck in a rut of continual procrastination, make up your mind to stop making excuses. If you have been making excuses for putting things off, here is how to take charge of your life. First, make a list of all the things you have been postponing - at work, at home, in your personal relationships, or for your personal development. Now choose one thing on that list that you can do something about today. Write down every excuse you have given yourself for not having done anything about it yet. Ask yourself if you have considered all the consequences of your procrastination in this area. Do you want to live with them? Do you have a legitimate reason for postponing this job? You have to be honest about this or it will not work. Forget about what other people think; look...

A brief Biography of Anthony Robbins
2007-08-20 16:51:00
Tony was born on 29th February 1960, a birthday he should only celebrate every leap year. He often talks about his mother having several partners and he having several fathers during his upbringing. The Robbins family often did not have much money and he has talked about charity being offered to them on ThanksGiving.Anthony Robbins has always been big in stature, but also big on goals too. By his late teens he had already found himself studying NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) with John Grinder, one of the founders of NLP. He did this by just pure determination and not accepting a no for an answer so that John finally agreed to show him the skills. Still in his late teens he developed his own diamond method and became very popular in helping peoples' fears and phobias. He was labelled the "Wonder Kid" and was even written about in the national press and was earning some quite substantial money for someone of his age. But with success came self destruction and soon after, Anthony R...

Goal Setting
2007-08-20 16:11:00
"Life is what happens to you while you are planning it". Whenever you see anything worthwhile being done anywhere, it has to be because someone is behind it with a passion, a belief and a goal! Just imagine any country winning a successful bid to host the Olympics without a goal and detailed planning.Likewise in your personal life and business, goal setting can make the difference between mediocrity or excellence and accomplishment.I recommend setting goals for most everything you do in life: business goals, financial goals, health goals, personal goals, etc. Most people just go with the flow and take the life they are dealt. Others make plans and go through life with blinkers on to overcome the obstacles that try to steal their dreams. Which type are you? Be Specific and Know Your ReasonsMany people set the wrong goals. They are too vague. For example, "I want to make $10,000 a month." That is good but don't we all? The real question is, "Why?" Money will not motivate most people...

Do You Hunt or Fish?
2007-08-20 14:28:00
Jim Rohn says, "Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person you become." So I have an interesting question for you (and for the moment it may seem completely unrelated, but stick with me...): Are you a hunter or a fisherman? Now let me explain: Last week as I spoke to a group of about 100 business people, we looked at a theme I frequently speak about: Hunt ing and Fish ing. No, not actual hunting and fishing; but instead the analogy that hunting and fishing provides us as it relates to success in general, and leadership and influence specifically. You see, there are two kinds of people: those who hunt (and are constantly tracking down success), and those who fish (or let success and leadership come to them). So in our analogy, let me tell you why fishing is better. Fishing is about attraction. It is about magnetically having success and influence come to you. When you are hunting, everything just runs away! How do you fish rather than hunt? Good question. Fishing i...
The 1% Concept
2007-08-20 14:02:00
- Don't try to improve 100% today.- Don't try to improve 50% today.- Not even 25%."What in the world are you talking about?"Amigo, chill, just follow me here.I learned this 'insight' 10 years ago and it's helped me, BIGTIME, especially over the last 5 years. Here's the bottom line. Most people don't do much. They do just what's necessary of them and that's it. Whether they want to live a life of 'quiet desperation', they're lazy, or need a vision for their future, I don't know. But the fact of the matter is most people just do enough to get by.Listen, it's so easy to be UNCOMMON. When you 'get it', you get in a flow where uncommon wealth and an uncommon lifestyle can be yours for the taking. They really can."Tell me more, what can I do to become more and achieve more?"I want to SELL YOU on a concept here. Let's see if I can persuade you, ready?Great. Onward. You see, I believe in the 1% DIFFERENCE.I believe you don't need to do 50% or 100% more than you're doing ...

"Can't" and Try are Swear Words
2007-08-18 15:20:00
Whenever my young children say, "I can't do..." I tell them that they are right. If they tell themselves they can't do something, the result is that they can't. They say it is so and their mind believes them. Instead I encourage them to ask for help or guidance in how to do something. It might be as simple as showing them how to use a step-ladder to reach something (as long as they are not in danger of course). It is easier to do something for a child than teach them how but in the long-term the latter is kinder and more useful. As the saying goes, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for one day but teach him how to fish and you feed him for life". I have a male friend who is the eldest of three brothers. Whenever something needed fixing in the house, their father would do the job. The result is that all three of them are hopeless at DIY and now their father has passed away, they have no one to help so must pay handymen whenever necessary. It would have been much better ...

It's Up To YOU!
2007-08-17 20:36:00
One of the first things successful people realize is the old adage, "If it is to be, it is up to me." This does not mean that you do it all alone. It simply means that you take responsibility for your life and your career.Too many people today look at opportunity and figure it is up to someone else to make sure they get it. They look at financial security and hope that the government will make sure they live safely in retirement or in case of disability. They wait and wait, figuring that it is up to someone else. And then the wait is over, and it is too late to do anything. Their life is over and they are filled with regret. This is not true for you however. You know that you must take responsibility for your life. It is up to you.The fact is that nobody else is going to do it for you, you must do it yourself. Now, some people may say, "Jim, that's a lot of responsibility." Friends, that is the best news you can ever hear. You get to choose your life. Hundreds of millions of people a...
