Last Friady, I went to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) with Ryan and my parents to apply for a passport. We left home at 12:30pm and our scheduled time is between 3-4pm. We anticipated a heavy flow of traffic going to Roxas Blvd. because of the Interfaith prayer rally at Makati City, which was a success. We arrived at the Mall of Asia after an hour and grabbed a bite at Teriyaki Boy. We waited for Ryan to get off work so we can all go to DFA together. His office is right next to the mall. At 3:30pm we were already at DFA where a long line has filed up outside the building. It is a great thing that our neighbor works there. We didn’t have to stand in line outside, he lead us directly to the processing room where we only waited for 10 minutes, and another 10 minutes to pay for the passport fee. It is already common knowledge that dogs cannot eat chocolate. I’ve learned among my peers that they have fed their dogs chocolate in one form or another, but I will never take a chance. Why are chocolates lethal to dogs anyway? Theobromine and caffeine are found in chocolate. Both are toxic for dogs. Theobromine is a bitter alkaloid of the cacao plant. It has a higher concentration than caffeine. While this is okay to be consumed by humans, dogs cannot. Dogs metabolize theobromine very slowly and it can stay in your dog’s bloodstream for 20 hours, which interferes with the functionality of the heart and kidneys. Based on my internet research, the lethal dose for both theobromine and caffeine is between 100mg to 200mg per kg of bodyweight. But the effect of theobromine poisoning in small doses can show severe symptoms. White chocolate has the smallest amount of theobromine and caffeine at 1.1mg per ounce of chocolate. A group of teenagers, possibly from a swimming excursion, rode the same jeepney I was in, during my ride home from my internship. Those kids were kind of rowdy. Everyone who knows me is aware that I love my dog, Booboo. She’s been with me for more than a year now, and she continues to make me happy. When I feel so tired and stressed out, a little cuddle from her and her unending lick on the face, can surely make me feel otherwise. I’ve never bonded with a dog as much as I have with her. I used to have a cat, though, but he died. Someone shot his foot and it got infected. Anyway, I haven’t bathed her yet, and it’s been 2 weeks! I bathe her every Sunday, but since I went out last week with Ryan and his dad, I didn’t get a chance to bathe her. She’s actually scared of the water, and she would hide from me when she knows “it’s time”. But when I finally get a hold of her, she would let me pour the water on her body. At noon, I can totally feel the heat of the incoming beach season. It is quite cold at night, and it even rained yesterday. A week from now, it will be official. The summer month is letting us know its presence. Apart from thinking of the beach, it is time to prepare our house to beat the morning sun. For the past months, the morning sun doesn’t bother us even if it passes through our curtains, but now, I know it will be a little unbearable for the skin.
