Artwork, Artwork....Everywhere!
2008-02-21 15:19:00
As seen on Posh Mama Wednesday, February 13, 2008.DaVinci painted the Mona Lisa...Rodin sculpted "The Thinker"...and Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. They were all great artists - people still flock to see their works in person...but do you think their Moms ever wondered what to do with all their artwork when they were kids??Are your children prolific artists?? Are your walls and refrigerator teaming with more tempera paintings and crayola drawings than you cold ever fit into an ordinary storage box...or even the louvre?? Do you feel ashamed because even after you've sent art to all the relatives, you still sneak some into the trash at night (after the kids have gone to bed, of course) because there's just so much you can't find a place for it all?? If you answered "yes" to even one of these questions, then it you, my friend, need some sort of "Alternate Artwork Storage"...After very proudly displaying a wine cork and lumber sculpture, very beautifully splotched with ...

The Week the Women Went...
2008-02-19 15:16:00
..."It's a typical weekday morning...the kids are up and getting ready for school. Breakfast is on the table, Mom is making school lunches and Dad is at the table reading the newspaper and drinking his coffee"...Sounds like a perfect morning doesn't it?Imagine the same scene, only Mom has gone off on vacation to a luxury resort and now, Dad is in charge....do you think everything would be running as smoothly?...Maybe....but, again.....Maybe NOT!!!That little experiment is exactly what happened when the Canadian Broadcasting Company filmed the reality show "The Week the Women Went". An entire town left with just the men to run everything from the businesses to the households.I can't seem to find any episodes online - but I did see a teaser where the men were giving the children a bath by putting them on the trampoline, squirting it with dishwashing soap and turning the hose on them (sounds safe...huh?). I'm dying to see this show - although most of us Moms know pretty much how it...

Would you, Could you,....Will you???
2008-02-14 16:08:00
Today is Valentines Day. Millions of guys will buy flowers for their sweethearts... Tens of thousands of well meaning men will make an offering of chocolates (even though they've failed to notice that their significant other has been on a diet since New Year's)... There is even a group of love struck gentlemen out there who will "pop the question" tonight. We happen to have a close friend who plans to do just that this evening at dinner...This makes me think about all the different ways there are to propose. I was watching the evening news the other night and they had a story about "Proposal Planners". Can you believe that there even are such people??... Neither could I, so I did some research and, yes, proposal planners do, indeed exist! One company I ran across in Newport Beach, California does just this. They claim to "...eliminate all unnecessary stressors of proposing" (isn't proposing and being stressed out about it sort of a "rite of passage" for men??). They tell t...
Weight Loss Wednesday
2008-02-13 15:17:00
Welcome to Pink Lemonade's sixth Weight Loss Wednesday !Today's post will, unfortunately, be sort of short. I woke up in the middle of the night with a 103 fever and it's pretty much the same this morning - so don't give up...Weight Loss Wednesday will be back in it's proper format next week...here's the abbreviated version for today:So how are you all doing with your program??Did you try anything from the "C" list last week? We did the chineese veggies in honor of Chinese New Year. Lauren spent the whole month of January studying China in her kidergarten class (they even learned to write a few things in Chinese and sing a song in Chinese!). They ended their month-long studies last Friday with a Chinese banquet so, of course, some "C" veggies were on the menu! Now lets try something from the "D & E" fruit and veggie list: Daicon Radish, Date, Delicata, Escarole, Eggplant (can you believe there aren't more D & E fruits and veggies.)Here are Pink Lemonade's weight loss frie...

You may ziggle, but I Zwaggle!!
2008-02-11 15:40:00
How many times have you been through this scenario......You're kids have so many things that their rooms are overflowing and you're at the end of your last nerve trying to keep everything in order. Their drawers are overflowing - you can barely shove another pair of pajamas in the drawer, much less all the laundry you need to put away. Let's not mention the five pointy-type toys you stepped on getting into their room on your way to shove those clothes into the dresser. You scream in pain as you peruse the wound on your foot and tell your child that if they don't clean their room, you're going to throw everything away and they'll have nothing left to clean up. Now, you don't really intend to throw all their stuff away, but no matter how many times you nag...politely request, they just can't seem to keep that room picked up. Well parents, it's NOT their fault!!....yes, you heard me right!....they just simply have way too much "stuff". We want our kids to be happy, so we give ...

Give books to children in need...
2008-02-07 15:46:00
Access to books is essential to reading development. Yet 61 percent of low-income families in the U.S. have no books for children in their homes. Over 80 percent of childcare centers serving low-income children lack age-appropriate books and other print materials. By providing children from low-income families with books that they can take home and keep, together we target the only variable that correlates significantly with reading scores: the number of books in the home. Now you can join the over 70,000 individuals from around the world that visit the site each day to click the "Click here to give - It's FREE" button HERE. To date, more than 55 million visitors have helped provide more than a million books to children who need them the most.Take a minute, each day and click to help a child read. If you register, they will send you a daily email reminding you to click! Like this Article? Subscribe to my Blog!

Weight Loss Wednesday
2008-02-06 15:59:00
Welcome to Pink Lemonade's fifth Weight Loss Wednesday !I'll start off by telling you that as of today, I have lost two more pounds for a total of five. My heart seems to be doing well, beating much more slowly than before and I've started some fairly easy pilates. So, on we'll march...As you all know, I'm a huge fan of Leanne Ely, The Dinner Diva at Saving Dinner. She has put out a new video on YouTube showing us all how to make her famous smoothies, check it out at YouTube (I would have embedded the video directly onto my post but this feature has been disabled for this video). If you're a fan of Leanne's too, listen to her live this morning on Blogtalk Radio at 12:00pm Eastern / 9:00am Pacific. There's even a chat you can join in on - it's lots of fun and you'll learn a few things too!Now that you know how to make the perfect smoothie, why don't you try something from the "C" fruit and veggie list to put into it! Cactus Leaves (I'm not exactly sure what to do wit...
Ten Foods that Soothe Stress...
2008-02-05 15:43:00
The other day, I posted about the six foods you should banish from your life if you want to have any chance at being healthy....but being healthy is more than just cutting out transfats and empty calories...reducing your stress level has a huge effect on our overall health. Here are ten foods that will help lower those stress levels (courtesy of Kaboose):Blueberries: They’ve got tons of vitamin C, which is what your body uses as fuel when your heart is racing. Crammed with antioxidants (those molecules that fight free radicals that damage your cells), which repair and protect your body from the effects of stress.Almonds: A few almonds will keep your heart from racing when panic attacks. They help lower your blood pressure and keep oxygen flowing throughout the body.Spinach: Provides a huge amount of magnesium. Magnesium is a mineral that helps lower your stress level by keeping you in a calm state.Tuna: Naturally loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids that help keep your adrenaline from ...

A Shiny Sink, A Fly and A Turtle...
2008-02-04 15:59:00
The Kitchen....it is said that it is the heart of the home...The place everyone gathers. It is a place to do homework, sit and chat with friends and family or get a glass of milk when you can't sleep in the middle of the night. The kitchen is a place to prepare nourishment for our bodies...and our souls. My kitchen was not always a place where people wanted to gather. In fact, it used to be a place even I did not want to venture into unless absolutely necessary. When Eric and I were first married, I was.....well....pretty lousy at keeping a clean house. Dishes would pile up in my sink (even though we have a dishwasher) until we ran out - and then, reluctantly, because the job was so enormous, I would spend half a day or more cleaning the kitchen. It was a cycle of "all or nothing"...setting myself up to crash and burn every time. This cycle continued for several years until, one day - quite by accident, I found flylady's website. Mesmerized, I spent several hours pouring ove...

A Guilty American Pleasure...
2008-01-31 15:42:00
I'm kind of ashamed to admit it, but one of my favorite guilty pleasures just started again a few weeks ago...Yes...American Idol. I say that I'm ashamed to admit it because Eric gives me a bad time for watching, telling me it's a brainless show and how can I stand it? (Like Flash Gordon and The Bionic Woman are little cinematic works of art or something!). I enjoy watching all the singers and the different renditions of songs we've heard a thousand times before. This season of Idol is just beginning, we're still watching the audition process- which can be quite funny at times. I think, somehow, Simon is a kinder and gentler version this year. He doesn't seem to be nearly as rude and we hear kind words coming from him on occasion - even toward some of the less talented auditioners. Heck, he's even smiling more - it's nice to see!I am, however taken aback at some of the shows cruelness during the audition process. Yes, it is funny to watch really bad singers who think they're...

Help Autistic Children
2008-01-31 03:51:00
My little Collette is not autistic, but many of her issues mimic the same issues that many autistic children have so I know how devestating it is to a family to have a child diagnosed with a neurological condition. You can help autistic children - The band, Five for Fighting, is generously donating $0.49 to AutismSpeaks for each time this video is viewed. The funding goes toward research studies to help find a cure for autism. When you have a moment, please visit the link below to watch the video and pass it along to your loved ones. They are aiming for 10,000 hits, but hopefully we can help them to surpass this goal.Go to What kind of World do you Want? and watch their four minute long music video about autism - help those children who can't help themselves.

A Sad, Sad Wiggly Day...
2008-01-29 15:41:00
It's finally happened....after six years in a row of attending Wiggles concerts every spring, this year...we're not going. Now some parents would be elated at this news as one more rendition of "Hot Potato" or "Big Red Car" might drive them to the looney bin. But I, on the other hand, really enjoy those silly kids songs.I've watched my Children grow up singing and dancing to those four Australian guys in their brightly colored skivies (t-shirts to us yanks). I've danced right along with them more times than I can count. I've been a regular visitor and sometimes, a contributor on the Wiggles Message Boards (which is really cool, because some of the guys actually answer questions and post regularly). I even went to great lengths to get Collette into a special "meet and greet" with them last spring when they were in San Jose.I am proud to say that we actually own every Wiggles DVD released here in the US and we still watch them regularly. Last year, when Greg Page (a founding memb...
Clearing out the Clutter...
2008-01-28 15:45:00
The holidays are over and we're still taking down Christmas decorations. I'm at the point where I'm embarrassed to open the blinds on the front windows because the neighbors will see we still have our tree up. Going on vacation threw us all off kilter - having Collette's birthday party somewhere other than our house didn't help either (we're usually rushing to get everything down after new years so we can decorate for her party). Taking down the holiday decor is not a small task at our house either, we have no fewer than 37 big rubbermaid tubs full of Christmas decorations...it's a daunting task. Along with taking down the massive amounts of holiday decorations, for me, comes the urge to scrub everything down and put it back to "normal" so I can once again obtain that elusive "visual peace" that I find so vital to my peace of mind. It's at this time of the year I feel the need to purge all unwanted, unused, unnecessary items from my home so we can have proper places for all ...

Six Foods to Banish from your diet...
2008-01-24 15:47:00
So, Bob Green, Oprah's Diet Guru has proclaimed there are six foods we should all completely eliminate from our kitchens, and diets if we have any chance at lifelong weight loss and health. They are:Soda - empty calories and sugar, cut it out. Instead, drink water, low-fat or fat-free milk, or tea. Fruit juices are good too, but remember, fruit juice, not fruit drink. Transfats - clog your arteries, they're high in calories, and they may even make your body store fat in the abdominal area. Aside from being unsightly, it's also bad for your health. You'll find these in cookies and baked goods which might be made with margarine (anything with hydrogenated in the ingredient list - anywhere in the ingredient list - no matter what the label lists as "trans fats per serving"). Fried foods - even if you use a good fat oil like olive oil to fry foods, anything fried has a lot of calories. Try things that are oven baked instead of fried. There are calories either way, but oven baked has ...

Weight Loss Wednesday
2008-01-23 15:55:00
It's our third Weight Loss Wednesday ...time is just flying isn't it? I am disappointed..the scale has not budged this week (I guess I should be happy it didn't go up). I upped my Omega-3's, I pumped up my water intake, cut out sodas and made a feeble attempt at exercising. Why does it seem like fitting in exercise is the hardest thing in the world to do?...I have time to post here....I have time to do other things, but exercising just seems to elude me. I'm going to work extra hard on the exercise thing this week. As for a new habit for the week, I got an email the other day about trying a new fruit or veggie each week that you haven't tried before. I thought this was a great idea (mainly, because I'm not the worlds biggest veggie lover - fruits are great - but most veggies I can take'em or leave'em (but I'd usually prefer to leave most of them). Why don't we go alphabetically? Here are a few from the "A" list to try out:Artichokes, Asian Pear, Asparagus, Avocado, Atemoy...

Oh, my aching feet...
2008-01-17 15:45:00
My feet are still seething at me from our trip to Disneyland. I wore my crocs the entire time and that did help, but when you go to Disneyland with Eric, you have to be prepared for some serious trekking. Eric's plan of attack at the happiest place on earth, does not begin with a leisurely stroll down main street and then a go at a happy pace from land to land.....NO, on the contrary! Eric's plan is to be one of the first through the turn style, and at a rather fast (almost jogging - but not quite because the disney police guys are there to say "no running") pace until he hits the velvet rope at the end of main street. There we crowd together will all the other poor schmucks who have been dragged along like this. At the moment the rope drops, we must do our best "not running" imitation to the first ride (usually the most popular one that fills up first so we won't have to wait in a long line later). After that, it's fastpass to fastpass sometimes from one end of the park to the ...

Weight Loss Wednesday...
2008-01-16 15:42:00
Well, it's our second Weight Loss Wednesday ...how did you do?? I am proud to announce, that I have lost three pounds (and that's with three birthday parties in a one week span!). I upped my Omega-3's, I pumped up my water intake and I'm proud to say I have not consumed even one soda! (I want one really, really bad...but I will not do it...I...will...not...do..it!!)This week, let's add one thing onto our list of habits....exercise. Yep, the dreaded "E" word. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind exercising...it's sweating that I absolutely loathe. I finally got the replacement disk for my Wii Sports and there is a "training" section so this is my plan:Monday, Wednesday and Friday: Wii Training for 30 minutes per dayTuesday and Thursday: Windsor Pilates 20 minute workout(I've done the Winsor Pilates in the past and it does produce realy amazing results fairly quickly. It's actually very relaxing too - I can always use the relaxation/stress relief).Pink Lemonade...
