MIT/Wellesley Toons
2008-03-27 13:15:00
Yesterday, Eric and I took the kids to the Childrens Discovery Museum in San Jose. The girls had a blast playing with all the hands-on experiments. Their favorite, of course, was the water play area (I have to admit - it was pretty cool with a water vortex that pulled colored balls from top to bottom). But the coolest part of the whole afternoon was the show in the little theater. We went into the theater with no clue what kind of show was going to be put on (this guy was walking through the museum calling out "there's a show in five minutes" so we went to see what it was) - I'm really glad we did! The performers were the MIT/Wellesley Toons . They're an acapella singing group made up of college kids from... you guessed it - MIT & Wellesley. They were awesome! About three minutes into the show I was wishing I had brought the video camera but our still camera takes video so I pulled it out and took what little the camera had room for - check these kids out!!They're really ...

The Outmat from GoBaby
2008-03-25 13:00:00
We received a super cute Outmat from Go Baby to give away during our March Madness Sweepstakes and couldn't resist checking it out and we're so glad we did! This is definitely one of the most useful products we've seen in a long time. Our Outmat is the pink swirl design as shown and it is so very pink (just as we like things here at Pink Lemonade!).When it's rolled and zipped up, it's a cute little roll with a generous carrying strap - handy for Dad to throw over his shoulder or Mom to hang from the stroller. The fabric is so soft and everything is very well put together. There's even a handy little zippered pocket on the outside (we think it's the perfect place to store an extra pacifier or two or to tuck a few dollars into for when the ice-cream man strolls through the park). Unzipped, the Outmat is even more stylish - it's brown and pink swirly flower pattern is so sweet. It measures a generous 50"x50" - plenty of room for story time in the park, or even an impromptu picni...

It's a Spring Thing!
2008-03-20 14:45:00
As seen on Posh Mama Wednesday, March 12, 2008.The flowers are beginning to bloom, the days are getting warmer and good old Uncle Sam has once again messed with our body clocks! Spring is knocking on our front door, and we all know what that means.... Spring Cleaning! Why do we "Spring Clean"? Do we have some sort of need to be miserable for several days? Do we have a fascination with cleaning products? More than likely, if you're anything like me, you just want to make everything fresh, just like the changing season. Let's face it - we've been cooped up in our houses for the better part of three or four months (more if you live in a colder climate). Add to that the horrible cold and flu season this year and the need to just "wash everything down"... to clean... is calling my name!Sometimes the most daunting part of a big task like Spring Cleaning is where to even begin... It's really quite simple - begin with a list! A checklist of sorts will make your job so much easier. Begin ...

Weight Loss Wednesday
2008-03-19 16:48:00
Welcome to Pink Lemonade's Weight Loss Wednesday !Did you try any new produce from the "K" list last week? Here's your "L" List:Leeks (if you haven't tried these, give them a chance. They're so yummy, kind of a delicate onion-y/garlic-y flavor. Just be sure to wash them very well as they can often have lots of grit between the layers - crunching on leeks.... good - crunching on grit... not so much), Lemons (yes, we've all tried these - but think of a new way to use them), Limes (one of my favorite ways to use limes is to marinate chicken in lime juice, garlic, sea salt and coarsely ground black pepper - yummy), Lo Bok (also known as a Chinese Radish - makes a great simple soup. Peel it, cut it up, and toss it in a pot of water. In minutes you have both nourishing cooked radishes as well as a tasty broth. If you like, try adding a bit of soy sauce or even a handful of noodles) and lastly, Lychee fruit (I have never tried these, but see them often in the store - guess now is as go...
Five Kind Things
2008-03-18 14:31:00
I was tagged for five kind things byAmanda. Here are the rules: List five kind things you do for yourself. List five kind things you do for your family (I changed it just a smidge) and List five kind things you have done for a strangerTag five more people. So, here goes:Five kind things I have done for myself:I learned how to stress myself out less.I've started eating way more fruits and veggies.I gave myself the "day off" on my Birthday!I filled my Ipod with music that I love (not just kids songs for the kiddos)I go to bed at 10 every night, even if I don't really want to - because 5am comes all too early!Five kind things I have done for my family:I lay the girls' clothes for the next day out for them every nightI drive 40 miles each way, just to go get Nana and take her shoppingI get up at 5am every morning (okay, not on Saturday), so I can get everyone off to their morning destinations on time and un-harried.I'm secretly planning to get the girls each a new kitten when the "spr...

The Trouble with Shrinkie...
2008-03-17 18:34:00
I try not to do this too often, but today, I must vent... just for a moment....Collette, my special needs kiddo has an IEP coming up in a few weeks. For those of you who do not know, an IEP is an Individualized Education Plan, it's something that all special ed kiddos have written out for them every year (kind of goals to work on, placement, etc). Now I usually hate going to these because I always feel like DH and I need to go in expecting some sort of fight. Every year, the school tries to put her in a more handicapped class than she should be in, but luckily, we are well-versed enough in the "rules" that we know she doesn't have to go anywhere we don't want her to be. Every year, we have this "discussion" and every year we prevail although it's very stressful at the time. Not only do we have to go to an IEP meeting every year (not just DH, me and Collette's teacher, but also school administration, district administration, school speech therapist, school occupational therapist...

Ice, Ice, Baby....
2008-03-11 14:19:00
No silly, I'm not talking about that goofy 90's "rap" song... I'm talking about something that could save your life! ICE, stands for In Case of Emergency and everyone who has a cellphone should have an ICE# programed into their phone. This way, if you are ever in an accident or a situation where you are rushed to a hospital and cannot answer for yourself, Emergency personnel know to look in your cell phone's address book for an In Case of Emergency number. Your ICE# should be someone who can answer important information, like what medications you take and a basic summary of your health history. The Hospital of Connecticut is sending out free ICE stickers for your cellphone - be sure to sign up for yours today!Yep, Ice can cool your drink, Ice can make your car slide all over the road and now, Ice can even save your life! There's still plenty of time to enter the March Madness Sweepstakes! Ask Eric
2008-03-08 17:04:00
Aimee asks: "Why is my hubby so messy?"Eric Here:I hold no degree in psychology or claim no expertise in aspects of human behavior. I know a little about a lot holding the title of "expert" in nothing. I'm just an ordinary guy in an extraordinary world and maybe...just maybe...I might have something of value to say.My method of organization is one of chaos utilizing the pile system. My office at work, at home, my garage (my only house-bound sanctuary)....piles and 90 percent of the time I can find stuff before dinner if I start looking right after breakfast. I had piles when I lived in an apartment because I really did not have much storage space so maybe my pile system started then and just stuck. To others it looks like a mess, to the person who claims the creation everything is in its place. Now, maybe, the rest of your house is neat...Maybe in other parts of the house socks are picked up, things are in their places and this is the one place where the feeling is "this is my spac...

You're today's Home Maintenance winner!!"...Jeopardy music fades out...That's right! Today, we're talking filters, vents and coils. Very important - yet very often overlooked and taken for granted. Think about it... Every morning you dry your hair - you rely on that small handheld appliance to essentially set the tone for the rest of your day (everyone knows - a bad hair day is just a plain old bad day all around - isn't it?). A little TLC pointed in the direction of that hairdryer will ensure many more good hair days to come. Get out an old toothbrush and clean out the vent holes - your hairdryer will not only be able to breathe, but i...

This is a clip from the British comedy "The Young Ones" - It aired in the US on MTV back in the 80's. This show was so totally irreverent and absolutely hilarious! Warning: Mild Violence.... Nothing in her little pink world should be in the least bit boring or uneventful.... hmmmm.....I remember very distinctly being bored when I was a kid and had to do things my parents were doing. I, however, knew that that it was just the way is was and I don't remember complaining (remember is the key word here). I try over and over again to inform Lauren that "ya'know, sometimes, life is just that way.... boring" and she'll just have to get used to it. Nope, she has no patience whatsoever for anything that even remotely "bores" her. Shall I make a short list of what "bores" Lauren.... Grocery Shopping, Shopping fo...

Simple Habits Keep Your Home Running Smoothly...
2008-02-28 15:16:00
As seen on Posh Mama Wednesday, February 20, 2008.The other day, I was listening to my favorite homekeeping mentor flylady on her weekly radio show. One caller was looking for help with her home - she could clean it and make it look beautiful, but she just couldn't get it to stay that way. Flylady had a very profound quote for her..."Simple habits keep your home running smoothly". Being a devoted follower of flylady's, I already knew this, but it became clear to me that it's the "missing-link" for many people trying to keep their home in order.Simple habits are all it takes, and I really do mean SIMPLE! For example, if we "Swish and Swipe" our bathrooms daily, we will always have a "company - ready" bathroom - here's what I do...As soon as I return home from taking the girls to school in the morning, I go into the bathroom and swish the brush around the toilet bowl, then I grab a cleaning wipe and go over the counter, sink and toilet (quickly - like 2 minutes, tops!) - Toss the ...

What's on your Life List?
2008-02-25 15:42:00
So.... last week was my Birthday (thank you, everyone for your birthday greetings!), and it occurred to me that Birthdays are more than just a day to eat cake and celebrate that you've made it through another year.... Birthdays are also a good time to look at your life - where you've been.... and where you're going...I was reading a magazine article the other day about "Life List s". Apparently, we're all supposed to have made a list of things we want to do in our lives at around the age of 20... Why didn't I know about this? I'm now, like, 23 years behind... I'll never catch up!There are books about these lists "1,000 Places to see before you die", "No Opportunity Wasted" and "1,001 things to do before you buy the farm" (I actually bought this for Eric as a joke gift!)... There are websites 43 Things and even a movie "Bucket List". I am told that these types of lists allow us to "focus on our innermost goals" and "clearly define personal desires and things we want to achieve"...
