A Very Powerful Statement
2008-05-09 12:41:00
Maya Angelou said when she was 22 with a 5 year old son, working two jobs and renting out two rooms with cooking priviledges; her mother told her that she thought she was the greatest women in the world.Maya said as she walked home and got to the corner she started to ask and say to herself; "what if I am going to be somebody", "if I'm going to be somebody I better stop cursing and get myself together". She said at that moment her life was changed; she felt liberated. Maya says mothers have the ability to liberate their children with love. I think that is a very powerful story and message. Just wanted to share that with all of you. Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

Listen to Show #13Summer is around the corner and many single parents have to find summer camps for their kid(s). I don't know about you, but I DREAD this. I find the summer camps to be short in length and too darn expensive. Show #13 talks about the ridiculous fees for summer camps and asks how do single parents deal.Grab Bag of the weekCamps DiscountsMy Summer CampsMusic Credits:Intro: Nobody by Ryan ShawBreak #1: Cool Conversations by D'MinorOutro: C20H25N30 by 880 South

Hello all,On the next show I'll be talking about what challenges single parents face when kids are out on summer break (sending the kids off to a grandparent/ex-spouse or summer camp). I am considering doing this show live. Many of you know I'm a geekygirl and love testing out new services. So I may test out this new service and make show #13 a live one. More to come on that. Still Open for Business While Undergoing MAJOR Construction
2008-04-02 04:52:00
Please bear with me. I am giving this blog a complete overhaul and it is a bit tedious and time consuming.I hope to complete this overhaul and launch the new site in two weeks. I have received a lot of twits and emails regarding the last show on 'Going to School as a Single Parent", so I've decided to do a part 2 to that show. So stay tuned for more news on that upcoming show and the new site.

TSP Show #12: Going to School as a Single Parent
2008-03-18 02:58:00
Listen to Show #12Going to school to finish a degree and to get an advanced degree is no easy feat, especially when you're a single parent. I should know. I got my bachelors and masters while working full time and raising two kids on my own. It was by far one of the most difficult and challenging tasks I'd ever done. I know how draining it can, but the key is; it can be done. There are many single parents who'd like to get a bachelors or get an advanced degree, but feel it is impossible. I am here to tell you it is possible; it is an attainable goal. There are many options for non-traditional students (that's us single parents) who want to go back to school. Show #12 talks about going to school as a single parent. You don't want to miss out on this show....Grab Bag items of the week:Bag Borrow and StealWhat a unique idea. Memories
2008-03-15 19:44:00
Just had a flashback to when my now 11 year old found my moms razer and shaved off her eyebrows. She was 5 or 6 at the time. Every morning my mom drew her eyebrows on with an eyebrow pencil until they grew back. Oohhh, the memories. I don't know what made me think about that. Good times, good times........Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

Science Project Time (YUCK!)
2008-03-11 13:34:00
Am I the only one who is totally not in the mood to 'oversee' the kids doing science projects? Although I must say I am happy because this year I don't have to 'oversee' both of my kids doing science projects because my high schooler doesn't have to do one. So my 5th grader is working on her science project, but this year I am so NOT in the mood for this. Usually I am all psyched about the experiment and really excited to see what the outcome is - not this year. I plan on having my daughter wrap this puppy up over this weekend and spring break so we can get it out of our hair. Dammit, I am tired...Seriously counting down to the last day of school........

Babygirl Turns 11
2008-03-06 03:31:00
The Birthday GirlMy youngest daughter turned 11 yesterday (March 4). Time just flew by and I really can't believe that my babygirl is 11 years old. I was telling my best friend that when both my girls were little, it seemed like it took forever for them to pass the age of 3, but once they entered school, time just ran away from us.The Birthday Girl and Her Big Sister (my 2 sweeties)So we have a nice event planned on Saturday for her birthday. I am taking the girls to this dinner theater by our home to see Witness for the Prosecution by Agatha Christie. They are really excited because this will be they're first time going to a dinner theater.

Information: The Choking Game
2008-02-28 16:02:00
Heard an interview on Meet the Peetes on XM radio this morning. They interviewed a woman who's son died playing the choking game. It's not a new game and I remember kids playing it when I was growing up. But it is very dangerous and apparently has become a very popular game with kids today. Don't Miss the Rock-n-Tot Event TODAY!!
2008-02-23 18:40:00
Today is the Rock -n-Tot event in Washington, DC at the Ultra Bar from 2-5pm. Before my house became the incubus of viral plague, I planned to be there with my girls, but we are still under the weather and don't want to pass our germs onto anyone else. So, unfortunately we will not be there. I hope the contest winners and their families have a great time today. I encourage everyone to head on over to the Ultra Bar for the Rock-n-Tot event. Germs Germs and More Germs
2008-02-20 21:04:00
Don't you just love it when your kids get sick and they wanna get all up in your face and lay up under you, just to pass their nasty little germs onto you? My youngest was sick this past weekend and she kindly passed her germs onto me and my oldest, who is home sick today and now I feel like a bus ran over me; twice. Meanwhile, the youngest child is just as perky and upbeat as ever and feeling great! Aaah, the joys of parenting. Somebody pass me the tissue box.......Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

Morning Rant:
2008-02-19 12:37:00
I'm sure many of you have heard about the major beef recall. Can I just say that I am truly disgusted and pissed about it. This is one of the reasons why I have pretty much taken beef out of our diets. Apparently this slack ass meat company slalughtered sick cows and shipped that crap to public schools (thank goodness, I make my kids lunch 95% of the time). The fear is that the beef has already been consumed. This is a DAMN shame to say the least. These are children we're talking about. I know there are other serious things going on in the world; war, famine, poverty, but damn, if the powers that be can waste time persecuting athletes for using steroids and HGH, then they can certainly tighten up the regulations so that diseased beef isn't shipped to the masses. I'm just saying..............Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

Summer will be here before we know it
2008-02-07 05:17:00
Every summer I have to figure out what the heck the kids are going to do. Up until 2005, they would go to a day camp by my moms. I was just thinking; I have no idea what they are going to do this summer. My youngest is in girl scouts, so there may be an opportunity there for summer camp (I need to inquire about that). My oldest wants to work (I'm still on the fence about that). So this summer should be pretty dang interesting. Whatever the kids are going to do, I better get working on it now because summer will be here before we know it.What are your kids doing this summer?
