2007-09-26 10:52:00 I went to the Rush concert at Madison Square Garden the other night. First time I've seen them live since their Grace Under Pressure tour in 1984. Back then I was an alienated, angst-ridden sexually frustrated suburban kid and the show ROCKED! I remember mowing an entire neighborhood's worth of lawns to scrape together the $25.00 for festival seating and watched the show 2 rows back from the stage. Now I'm an alienated, angst-ridden sexually frustrated urban professional and the show still ROCKED! Except this time I could easily afford the $185 second row seat. I was drumming then as I am now, so to worship at the altar of The Peart was particularly satisfying. Great concert--every year those guys keep getting better. Their set list was a mix peppered with their popular classics (Limelight, Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions, YYZ for the encore), their newer concert staples (Dreamline, etc.), obscure classics(Natural Science, Entre Nous--a fave of mine) and a bunch of ponderous shit... Maybe if people bought their coffee in a grocery store, at a much reduced price, they could afford some of these pieces.I guess the paintings on the walls are supposed to give the place a certain sophistication. But coffee is just brown water. It makes a person jumpy, and in my case forces more brown water out the other side of me. Poo poo doo doo.The cafe I'm at has only one bathroom too. I imagine that several times a week a customer finds that bathroom occupied and must run out in search of a nearby toilet. They should sell diapers instead of muffins and croissants.Most of these joints have free entertainment at night: jazz (always white guys), bad poetry readings (like there is any other kind) performance art (people who can't play jazz, or write bad poetry). How much does this suck? You get bored to death by these jackoffs, then you're forced to think about how much it blew, all night, because you're hop...
