Musical Meditations - Dream On - Kelly Sweet
2007-11-29 19:21:00
I'm more moved by her sound and visions than I can express. My own words are trapped within me today, scratching and clawing to get out, but unable to find their way to the surface. Today, Kelly Sweet is a sweet release... she's saying what I can't.Dream On by Kelly SweetEverytime I look in the mirrorAll these lines on my face getting clearerThe past is goneIt goes by, like dusk to dawnIsn't that the wayEverybody's got their dues in life to payYeah, I know nobody knowswhere it comes and where it goesI know it's everybody's sinYou got to lose to know how to winSing with me, sing for the yearSing for the laughter, sing for the tearsSing with me, if it's just for todayMaybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you awayYeah, sing with me, sing for the yearsing for the laughter, sing for the tearsing with me, if it's just for todayMaybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you awayDream On, Dream On, Dream OnDream until your dreams come trueDream On, Dream On, Dream OnDream until your...

Musical Meditations - We Are One - Kelly Sweet
2007-11-29 18:59:00
I found myself in an odd situation last night... watching Logo. That's right, the gay and lesbian station on t.v. - but what can I say? Good programming is good programming. It drew me in with a Melissa Ethridge concert and interview, and held my attention with four fantastically funny comedians. But what really struck me in a profound way was a "new music spotlight" featuring a song from the debut album of a beautiful soul named Kell y Sweet . Her sound is captivating. Her "mindset" is spell-binding, and I cried at the truth in her song. So, naturally, I woke up this morning and did a quick search. I'll be adding Kelly Sweet to my list of favorites, knowing I've found a musical source I can lose and find myself in simultaneously.Ladies and gents, please take a moment to indulge in the soft "Sweet" song, "We Are One"....We Are One by Kelly SweetDidn't need to askDon't know the reasonEverything that I believeIs right hereNot thinkin' bout tomorrowCouldn't catch it if I triedWor...

Oh, Snap! I've Been Tagged!
2007-11-28 02:21:00
So the whole "blog tag" thing is a brand new game to me. I'd never heard of it until I came across Lord Manila Stone's blog, The Native Sentimental Maniac. I'd seen him mention tag before, but this was the first time it was... eh hem... personal. *smirks* -- That's right, he tagged me! So, forgive me if I'm not so good at the game yet, if I'm a bit naive about some of the rules, or if I miss something obvious... that being said, here's my run:Copied from Lord's post...The rules are simple:1.Mention the person who tagged you and create a link back to them.2.Copy-paste the traits for all the twelve months (see below).3.Pick your month of birth.4.Highlight the traits that apply to you.5.Tag 12 people and let them know by visiting their blogs and leaving a comment for them.6.Let the person who tagged you know when you?ve done it!-------------------------------------- ---------I was born in AUGUSTAUGUST: Loves to joke. My work schedule is one that requires a lot from me. Because I live so frigging far from civilization, I have to tuck all of my hours into a four day work week. It's a 70 mile round trip daily, so it's best if I stay longer but go there less. My job is also extremely physically demanding, so by the time I finish a ten hour shift, I'm completely wiped out and good for nothing. I work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday... and then generally use Tuesday to recover. Wednesday and Thursday are the days I have to catch up at home with domestic deeds such as laundry, and to play around a bit with writing and blogging.I've pretty much tapped out my archives at this point. I have one or two things yet I can post from the past, not counting the Enchantmonths series, but from here on out, it's gonna hafta be fresh, or nada.I haven't been very strict with myself about writing lately. I used to be extremely vigilant... writing was my career of choice, my main passion, and the key to my s...

Musical Meditations - A Time For Us -
2007-11-25 19:29:00
I've always been moved by this song. In seventh grade, my English teacher made us watch Romeo and Juliet, and when I heard this song, it pulled something in me, stirred something in me, and I was more aware of my "search" than ever... the knowledge that true love was out there for me somewhere, that I'd find and connect with my soul mate, but that "time" insisted I wait.My sister, upon learning my fascination with this song, learned how to play it on her flute when we were teens. I loved listening to her play while my mind, heart, and soul reached out into other dimensions trying to communicate with my twin soul. I always wondered if he could hear me.The song had been on my mind lately... it has been like background music playing in the back of my mind throughout each day. Yesterday, on my way to work, I put in a cd I'd forgotten I had... a type of "faerie" music, the soft sounds with no lyrics that allow thought to dance. I didn't realize when I chose the cd that it had this so...

Bad Mood Blues
2007-11-25 18:51:00
I wrote this on November 9th of this year. I opted not to post it initially because I didn't want it to send the wrong message. I am NOT condoning or supporting the use of drugs or alcohol. But I caught myself saying something disturbing this morning... that I just wanted to "tie one on" so I could "let it all go". That's when I remembered I had written this... and then I realized that it DOES send the right message... getting shit-faced is NOT going to improve my situation. Numbing the pain does not eliminate it. Sometimes, we just have to feel what there is to feel.... and today? I'm feelin' it.~*~ Bad Mood Blues ~*~If I had a bottle of VodkaI wouldn't have it any more'Cause I'd drink it 'til the last dropHad me passed out on the floor...If I had a pipe I'd smoke it,Do a dance with Mary JaneI'd smoke it 'til I choked on itJust to choke away the pain...If I had a pill I'd pop itJagged though it may be (sing it, Alanis!)Drifting off in narcotic sleepJust to numb this mis...

Drifting on Dreams
2007-11-24 17:20:00
My mind has wings this morning, floating and driftin where it will, without direction from me. Maybe it has to do with the full moon. Maybe I'm just in a creative space mentally, I'm not sure.It actually started yesterday. Well, at least that's when I became aware of it. As I was driving to work, I was thinking of the quilt I started making earlier in the year. I don't like it. I don't like the colors or fabrics I chose. I don't like the stitching I used. I don't like the thread I'd picked. I've decided to chuck it, call it a learning experience, and be done with it. However, I haven't lost the desire to succesfully create my first quilt. Yesterday, I was thinking of making a quilt for each season. The thought was spawned from appreciation of Autumn's colors - the rich browns, deep auburns, spicey rusts... I thought of cutting out leaf patterns and stitching them in different directions... and as my mind was placing patterns for Autumn, the thought morphed into ...

(Why?) Musical Meditations - Candy Man - Sammy Davis Jr.
2007-11-24 00:19:00
I drifted off to sleep last night... and before I knew it, I was watching Sammy Davis Jr. tap dance in my head. It's like someone set a record on repeat and the song just kept playing over and over. At one point, Sammy himself looked right into my eyes, like a close up camera angle, and said, "Don't forget to remember this."I don't know why... but since I dreamed it so strongly, I thought I'd record it. Maybe later it'll make sense.Candy Man by Sammy Davis Jr.(Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley)(Candy man)(Hey, Candy man)Alright everybody gather 'roundThe Candy Man is hereWhat kind of candy do you wantSweet choc'lateChoc'late malted candyGum dropsAnything you wantYou've come to the right man'Cause I'm the Candy ManWho can take a sunrise (who can take a sunrise)Sprinkle it with dew (sprinkle it with dew)Cover it with choc'late and a miracle or twoThe Candy Man (the Candy Man)Oh, the Candy Man can (the Candy Man can)The Candy Man can'Cause he mixes it with loveAnd makes t...

Black Friday
2007-11-23 23:43:00
Black Friday ... Bah smurfin' humbug, I say! I hate to be a Scrooge. I never thought I'd be "anti-holiday" when I grew up, but people, this is frigging ridiculous already! What is Black Friday ? It's the official "kick off" of the Christmas season and, by far, the busiest shopping day of the year. With Thanksgiving day a thing of the past, the count-down to Christmas begins with a frenzie. Of course, retailers and marketers are well aware of this, so to get the edge on the competition, every shop in town tries to one-up the competitors by having "more savings" and special sales. So that's how the X became a part of Christmas... it has nothing to do with Christ anymore and everything to do with hot deals and cold cash!I happen to work in an extremely popular restaraunt/gift shop... and let me tell you, what I witnessed today was absolutely disturbing! I arrived at work at a little after eight a.m. (tardy-ass wench!) and it took me forever and a day to find a parking spot. On...

I'm not into the whole chain letter thing. I'm not even a huge fan of email forwards or jokes (although some of them can be pretty good!). But, every once in a while I stumble across one of those things that just makes ya go, "Hmmm...." - and this is one of them. This landed in my email courtesy of Aunt Penny, and I actually took the time to answer the questions and was a bit astonished at the response (in a good way!). That being said, I've decided to pass it on... not via chain mail and email forwards, but here in A Faerie's Tale. If you're up for it, go for it. If not, no worries, just click onto something else of interest. *smiles*Tibetan Personality TestI'm not sharing my results at the moment... mostly because I'm a bit tardy getting ready for work, but I may come back and share them in the comments section when the day is done.Have a great day!*Sparky*

A Day of Thanks
2007-11-22 17:22:00
Well, I have to work today, but I'm thankful I have a job.I don't get to spend the holiday with my children, but I'm thankful that my mother is my next door neighbor and is insuring that my children have a wonderful Thanksgiving meal.I'm not even in the same state as my eldest child, but I'm thankful that he grew up so well, and that he's such a responsible individual with a strong soul. (Happy Thanksgiving, Baby!)I don't get to spend the holiday with the man I love, but I'm thankful to have the man I love in my life. I'd be lost without him.I don't have many friends (by choice), but I'm thankful for those I do have, and I cherish them always (even if I don't call as often as I should!)My home isn't in the order I'd like it to be in, but I'm thankful to have a home that's paid for, a security I need in the midst of today's abundance of insecurities.Life isn't always smooth like I'd choose, but I'm thankful to be alive, so I can fully love those I hold near and de...

Balancing Two Loves: Writing with Children
2007-11-18 18:27:00
Through experience I can tell you that writing, trying in and of itself, can be quite the challenge when there are children on hand demanding attention. To be hot on the heels of a fantastic thought process only to be interrupted by a two year old who needs to go potty is the most frustrating experience a writer can have.Just as your main character comes into focus, nearly transparent and quickly fleeting, the baby wakes from her nap for her afternoon feeding, chasing your character far beyond reach. Arrgh! Writing a hot love scene for a romance novel can be cooled quickly by a pre-teen who wants to know what he can have for a snack and when dinner is going to be ready! One might think that balancing two loves - the love of children and the love of your writing career - might be a far fetched fantasy. However, with a few good tricks and a whole lot of patience (with yourself and your children), it is possible to reach the dreams of being a great parent AND a great writer!Without tyi...

Switched BEFORE Birth: Born in the Wrong Body?
2007-11-18 18:11:00
Have you ever felt like you were in the wrong place at the wrong time? Everything logical tells you that your being there is right, but internal alarms are sounding that something is out of kilter. Have you ever tried on an outfit and replied, ?No, this just isn?t me? and been relieved to slip back into a wardrobe that best reflects your personality? These situations are an easy fix ? you can always leave a place where you feel uncomfortable, and you can easily change your clothing. But what if these internal alarms were much more severe ? what if you knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that it wasn?t just the wrong place or the wrong outfit, but that you?d been born into the wrong body? Can a penis or vagina be considered a birth defect to be corrected with surgery and hormones? Is it scientifically possible for a boy to be born into a girl?s body or vice versa? Or, are transgender persons suffering from some form of mental disorder in which they simply perceive themselves as having b...

Paid in Full - A Memoir
2007-11-17 16:50:00
I never thought about going to the old-folks home. Mom said that the Lord had called her and she didn't want to go by herself. Grateful that she wanted to share the experience with me, I agreed to go.I didn't much care for the funky smell of medicine, cafeteria food, and fowled up undergarments. It was difficult to let the elderly get close to me, close enough that I could see the bits of food that didn't quite make it out in the denture soak, and smell the breath of a mouth no longer kissed by anyone.Sadness in abundance, taking second to loneliness, I walked through the halls listening to the clapping of my shoes against the soiled floor, watching the heads turn one by one. Those who were coherent enough to recognize this stranger didn't seem to care for the intrusion.Mom and I would go to the convalescent center and over time, I sifted through the bitter faces til at last I found the ones I knew I could laugh with. First, there was Les. He was in is seventies and had suffered...

Normally, I'm a very meek and mild soul, a kind and compassionate heart. Normally, I avoid confrontation. I mind my own business (for the most part). I signed up, then referred my friends and loved ones. They did offer a general blanket apology for any blogs who were deleted (particularly those deleted in error) - but that was pretty smurfed up. What the Smurf?
2007-11-16 00:49:00
Took the kids out to dinner and grocery shopping the other night. Learned a new way to curse without cursing - just insert "smurf". My son said he hijacked that from a t.v. show, but I can't remember which one. All I know is that this week, I've found myself saying, "What the Smurf " a whole lot... only, I used the uncensored version. This week has been a tremendous challenge, start to finish. Murphy's Law (or is that Smurfy's law?) has really been playing itself out in my realm. Anything that could have gone wrong has gone wrong and I think I've shed enough tears to flood a small villiage.Obviously, I didn't bother to blog about it. (What the Smurf?)Sadly, I neglected other blogs I've come to admire and enjoy. (What the smurf?)Rudely, I avoided answering comments that others were kind enough to have left on my blog. (What the Smurfin' Smurf?)But I'm hangin' on, taking a big smurfin' breath in, and pushin' forward.*Note - To Whom it May Concern:Please excuse Sparky's abse...

Writing Prompt: Old Photos
2007-11-10 17:05:00
Next time you're sitting at odds with your muse, try setting down your pen and picking up a photo album. What may seem like a "lack of productivity" may actually produce a large range of benefit. Writers often try to overcome writer's block by writing something, when actually, what we need to do is rest our creative brains, feed them, and allow them to rejuvenate. Sifting through old photos will not only occupy the writer during down time, but may also stimulate memories, characteristics, story lines and raw emotion, with which to return to writing. One way to use old photos while writing is to pick one photo at random and begin your writing with the sentence, "I remember when...." Knowing that you're simply strolling down memory lane for your own benefit rather than trying to create something profound for publication, you'll be more apt to be honest with yourself and less concerned with your choice of words. Writing for and from personal experience, any number of things might ap...

Musical Meditations - Pied Piper
2007-11-10 16:27:00
Every so often, a song will find its way into my veins and move me in powerful ways. This is an example of just such a song. I was introduced to it by the blog Inbetween This and Other Realms and just had to keep going back. I've listened to it several times, and to me, it has a pulse. It vibrates in me and sends me drifting in thought. Nick was kind enough to track down the lyrics for me when I told him how moved I was by the song, so I'm including the video and the lyrics since this song is now a part of Sparky's make-up.The Pied Pipe r by YoriyosWhere do I go when all that I seeAre ficitious takes on realityWho do I seek to paint my dream - or my lifeBecause I've tried real hard to seek out and findAn open heart, an open mindWho will stand with me when I findWrong and Right?Where will I end up on this winding roadWell nobody cares and nobody knowsBut there are many of us and it just goes to showYou're not aloneWhen we reach there we hope to findAn open heart, an open mindWe'...

Mark My Words!
2007-11-09 13:57:00
Most of us won?t deny the power of words ? especially those of us who rely on them as tools of our trade. We, as a species, regardless of the language we speak, depend on words to get us through each day. We read words on menus when we order food in restaurants; we rely on words to direct us in traffic. Words are used to comfort children as we sing them a lullaby or tuck them in at night with a bed time story. We depend on words to communicate with each other, and with our own thoughts. Yet, for as much as we recognize and rely upon our need for words, rarely do we value their true power. Words are power! In the book *The Four Agreements, author Miguel Ruiz refers to words as white magic and black magic, explaining that every single word we think or speak becomes a spell. That spell then attaches itself to you, the one to whom you're speaking, or your environment, where it will remain until a more powerful word spell breaks it. Everything you say has power and influence over everyth...

An inquisitive mind once had a little girlwhose imagination weighed more than she didshe longed for understanding of the whole wide worldAll things to her were sacredShe sang with the birds and she danced with the windShe saw heaven through the smile of her eyesinnocence and the elements were her closest next of kinIn her naiveté she was wiseto the world in the sense that it was meant to be sensedas an adventure and a chance to growan opportunity to feel things in a way that is intense...a living dream in the shadow of the spirit's glow.So she lived each day the best way that she couldwith her heart showcased on her sleeveHer emotions were pure and intentions were goodAs long as she remembered to believe.Just believeThat's the soul's ability to create and conceivethat up could be down and to come in is to leavethat to give is the only way to receiveAnd that to fail is the same as it is to achieveit's to see what logic and reason can't perceiveThat every day's as faerie-kissed ...
