Exam 1
2007-04-21 08:02:00 Math exam sucked. It started out well. But I took too much time for the first question. And it kept adding on. Minute by minute of delay. Until I was sweating in stress, fidgeting in panic, working out calculations after calculations, correcting careless mistakes, with barely enough time left to finish the paper. With 15 minutes left, I had two choices.Turn back and try to finish the questions I had left earlier. That's called the 'no man left behind' approach.Try and work out the last 5 mark question with sheer brute force. I went ahead with the second one.And I managed to get the correct answer. But I forgot to cancel out the wrong set of workings. I hope the person marking the paper notices that. And I pray for partial credit. Bad paper. Could have done way better if not for careless mistakes, panic and lack of time. Regrets, regrets.Projected grade: B-/C More About: Exam

32 victims and a Cho Seung-Hui
2007-04-19 13:30:00 Cho Seung-Hui is getting more attention than he probably would have received in his entire life. And perhaps that's what he desired. What's more scarier than the 23 year old's systematic VATech massacre is that he took the trouble to mail his 'Manifesto' to the NBC office in NYC between the two hours which separated the initial double-homicide and the following mass murder in Norris Hall. It has DVD recording, photos, printouts of PDF documents etc.His parents emigrated to the States to escape their poverty in South Korea. And their son grew up hating the rich brats. Like the ones in his college. He hated their debauchery and hedonism. He wrote sick, disturbing plays. He was the Question Mark kid. Did his parents go wrong in raising him? Probably.Or probably not.Especially if the rumors regarding a certain Sun-Kyung Cho turn out to be right. You see, she might be Seung-Hui's sister. And a Princeton graduate. A pretty 'normal' kid from the same family.Well assuming that the 's... More About: Cho Seung-Hui , Victims , Victim
Guns and Morons
2007-04-17 09:17:00 University life can be mighty stressful at times. Fucked up, even. I attest to that. But that doesn't justify gunning down random people, something which happened in Virginia Tech University.Peace be upon those who passed away. Especially Professor GV Loganathan, an IIT Kanpur Alumnus who was one of the victims. The assailant is suspected to be a Chinese student. Loser. No further comments. More About: Guns , Morons
Oh yeah, that's a kiss alright
2007-04-17 08:14:00 Richard Gere, being a geared-up 57 hetero(or bi?) sexual American male, decided to embrace Shilpa Shetty and steal a few kisses. At an HIV/AIDS awareness concert. So much for controlling passions. Thankfully, he was sober enough to only kiss her cheeks. And that is making people protest, burning effigies and all. If it had been a mouth to mouth, I shudder to think of the consequences.*shudders*A few questions which irk me:Had it been a brown actor, let's say Aamir Khan, and had he kissed...hmm..Angelina Jolie while gracing the stage for a similar concert, wouldn't he face some kind of criticism from the Western media and the public?Had it been a celebrity or an actor from Pakistan or Bangladesh (do they even have actors?) and he had done the same to Shilpa, would there be anyone supporting him at all? Especially those who are not finding anything offensive in Gere's actions at all.Why do Indian political parties need to interfere in such stupid matters? Example: "The BJP disappro... This made me smile
2007-04-16 14:42:00 Yesterday night, or today morning to be precise, as I went to bed around 8 (after having watched archived BBC videos detailing how metal is forged, die casted, investment casted, powder casted...examinable content..pfft), I read about Rahul Gandhi and his 'statement'.I sent the link to Amit Varma since he had posted about Rahul recently. After that I spared 5 minutes to type out a quick and short post about how I felt about Rahul's disastrous remarks. And just now I happened to see this on DNAIndia's website (on the main page):Unexpected and what a surprise! Guilty Pleasure
2007-04-16 13:21:00 My heart will go on.Yes! It's official. I loved Titanic. Not because Kate Winslet was nude in it. Give me a break. But because it was so fuckin' grand. The ship. The whole movie. The scale of James Cameron's creativity was simply amazing. And the brief romance (around which the story revolved) was just that. Brief. And tragic. But sweet nevertheless.I have only watched it once. 10 years ago when it was released. When I was 10 myself. And it has been one of my favourites ever since. So here's the played to death song by Celine Dion. Not very effective lyrics and has a stupid chorus, but it's still a great song. And pardon the poor video quality. Enjoy.p.s: yesterday was the 95th anniversary of the Titanic disaster. Peace be upon those who died that night in the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Why acknowledge something understood?
2007-04-16 01:41:00 Rahul Gandhi gave a statement that the Nehru-Gandhi family 'dismembered' Pakistan into two. What an Idiot. I have lost whatever little appreciation I had of their vile gene pool.As if people didn't know what he said already. Yes, Indira Gandhi supported the formation of Bangladesh.Exactly like how Pakistan lends its support to the proponents of Khalistan and several other separatist movements in India. And India must be doing the same in Pakistan. It's common sense. State sponsored terrorism is nothing new in the post-partition Indian Subcontinent. But so far there has been a tacit understanding, between politicians at least, that no such claims need to be made in the media. Because once such information becomes public, it becomes a story. And stories, as we all know, can mutate rapidly and transform into something else entirely; something juicier, meatier and lip smackingly out of sync with the truth. That is obviously bad because while truth hurts, half-a-truth kills. And to thi... More About: Methi , Knowledge , Know , Edge , Something

$1
2007-04-15 11:13:00 Three friends go to a bar. They buy a jug of vodka: $25.Each pays $10 to the waiter. Who returns some time later with $5 as change. Now the friends decide to take a dollar each. Leaving $2 for the waiter as tip.So in effect, each paid:$10(the amount they initially forked out) - $1(which they took back from the change)And that's $9.So 3 times $9 = $27. Add $2 left as a tip for the waiter to that. You get $29. But hadn't they paid $30 to the waiter?Where did the $1 go?!?
Before you vote for your American Idol...
2007-04-13 23:08:00 Make sure you use Google Search to find out his/her religion.Like this guy/gal did (and stumbled onto Misprint) with these keywords:Sanjaya is he muslimFirstly I thought: Does that matter?Anyways, the answer is no. He isn't a Muslim. He's a Hindoo-Christian!So if you are Islam-o-phobic, feel safe to vote for him. But hey, I heard them Hindoos eat snakes and what not. Watch Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom to see what I mean. Steven Spielberg is the most culturally appreciative film directors around.Final word: You should really think twice before you chip in your bit to make Sanjaya the next America n Idol. Which I think he deserves to be:)And after Haley Scarnato got voted off yesterday, I realized that Talent beats Skin. And Hair beats both of them! (go figure)The reason she made it so far is staring at you in this picture. Also, Sanjaya Malakar's sister*'s "nude" photo was found on the net. Halt! It is much tamer than what you imagine. 2007-04-11 18:01:00 These days anyone can be an editor, a photographer, writer, an auteur, a whore, a bore, wannabe gangstas & pornstars, a m/b-illionaire, a moron, an activist, a fanatic...And so much more.Web2.0 has given Individualism a brand new platform. And it has given Collectivism a much needed boost as well.Geeks can unite over the net. Gamers too, who are often geeks with mutated thumbs/digits. Photographers and Pornographers, both can share their work with anybody, seriously anybody, in the world.Social Networking sites are the biggest time wasters. Ever (blogs are a close runner up). I wonder how many manperson-hours are lost every month as millions of people keep their present contacts intact and stack up new ones at the same time on spam-doradoes like MySpace, FaceBook, Orkut, Friendster and many other small players.Google is happily adding on to its huge database and penetrating into as many different markets it can. (Un)Stable relationships
2007-04-09 20:42:00 Chill. I won't be dishing out advice. Dr. Love (oooh, dat's me) takes $cash$ for that.WARNING: MATHEMATICS AHEAD. TURN BACK NOW!While modelling romantic relationships as a system of 1st order differential equations (for a module I am taking of course! it is examinable), I made a few important observations. Let me share them with you.Let B be a measure of the boy's affection for girl, and G be a measure of the girl's affection for boy (so sexual-orientist of me, ya! why can't it be a gay/lesbian couple? Because it's my fuckin' blog). Now dB/dt is the rate of change of the boy's affection. And dG/dt measures the rate of change of the girl's affection. Assume that both the rates are linearly related to the affection extended by the other party. B(0) and G(0) give us the initial measure of affection for the boy and the girl, respectively. In differential form that would be:dB/dt = mG , B(0)=bdG/dt = nB , G(0)=gWhere m, n, b, g are some constants.Clear so far? If yes, proceed. Th... Minnows?
2007-04-07 23:51:00 Just read something which was truly a shocker.Bangladesh has firmly established itself as a Giant Killer after beating South Africa by 67 runs. Yes! I know it sounds unbelievable. But with that margin of victory, you can be sure it wasn't a fluke. Times Are A-changing, my friends. And I feel that Bangladesh's rise can certainly be attributed to Dave Whatmore's coaching as much as India's disgraceful performance can be related to Greg Chappell. Uggh. His very name irritates the hell out of me.Well after today's match, I think Bangladesh might be worthy contenders of the World Cup. They are playing like the Indian team in '83 World Cup. Plus Sri Lanka won the '96 World Cup under Whatmore. Hmm. Interesting. A friend said if B'desh wins, Indian Cricket team can at least take pride in having being beaten by the champion! Yes, expectations of fans have dipped so low. Sad, sad, sad.Just for the parting shot, I think that the B'desh-SA match might have been fixed. Who knows:) More About: Inno

I second what?
2007-04-07 21:30:00 Recently, I hear a lot of people going: "I second that".Why does no one say: I third that or I fourth that? Do these people think they are passing off as intellectuals or literates when they use this third grade, overused, crap of a phrase? Does it hurt them to simply say I agree with that??Also, does this phrase only work for integers or can we use any real number? So can I 13.59 that?Uggh. Its an iCringe* moment.*previously known as Cringeworthy. In an attempt to stay hip, I have added an 'i' in front of Cringe to create a very "cool" phrase of my own! Way! Sanjay, Sonjay and Sanjaya
2007-04-07 20:13:00 "What's in a name", Shakespeare had opined. Well I'll tell you what's in a name. Don't you listen to him. He was 'The fuckin' Bard' for god sake; the rock star of the literary world. Of course he could come up with such ideas and not get lynched for it.Unlike the Bard of Avon, I believe there's a lot more to a name than it actually receives credit for.Let's take Sanjay Dutt, Sonja y Dutt and Sanjaya Malakar for example. All share a common first name, just that it is spelt differently. Something which can be easily overlooked (Come on! Don't be so persnickety). Assuming that you know who Sanjay Dutt is, Sonjay Dutt is the stage name of the Indian-American wrestler Retesh Bhalla, who is obviously a fan of the original Sanjay Dutt and this then influenced his stage name. Sanjaya Malakar is, as you HAVE to know, the 17 year old kid who has been making waves for the past few months for his hair smile singing on American Idol. Now let's see how their names work for them.Sanjay Du...
