Find out how!Now that reminds me...I have always been pretty talkative and that has always gotten me into trouble. The incident I am going to share is of one such occasions. It occured when I must have been around 6 or 7.I was chatting with my friends in the front-right corner of the classroom (the image is so vivid in my head!). There must have been around 40 kids in all. I remember the teacher was having a hard time controlling all of us. Then all of a sudden, she lost it. Totally.She took her 30 cm metal ruler and savagely hit my friends. And me. On the head. Not once. Several blows.Whack, whack, whack.At that exact moment, the peon rang the bell and it echoed throughout the school building. Signaling that it was lunch time. Most kids went off. The teacher too. 2007-04-06 10:58:00 Yesterday I had the (mis)fortune to watch a poorly made (but entertaining in parts) movie called 'Gossip'.The premise was pretty interesting. A rich college kid by the name of Derrick decides to start a rumor (with the help of his girlfriend, Jones, and a roommate, Travis) and to observe it spread through the power of gossip. All this because Derrick's views which supported gossip had been put down by a professor teaching human communication. The rumor which they start is initially about the naughty details of a girl, Naomi, and her boyfriend having sex after a night of heavy partying. As time progresses, the rumor mutates into something pretty serious as the word goes aorund that Naomi had passed out and her beau had raped her. Naomi picks up the rumor, believes it, and informs the police. Her boyfriend is promptly arrested. End of story? Everyone either uses it or perhaps the most apt local variant of this choice word. That's all good.But I feel that profanity has stopped being all that profane; it has become an exclamation, a punctuation, a mere expression. Abbreviations like WTF (Not the World Taekwando Federation, stupid), with a multitude of !!! following the-cutesie-wutesie-I'm-not-gonna-dirty-m y mouth-or-put-the-effort-to-say-what the fuck-expression, have become more common than the blue-jeans+anygoddamnTshirt look.This seriously annoys the more discerning (ab)users of profanities and vulgarities. The kind, you know, can swear a lot but only so so when it is really needed. That is usually when the profanity leaves a strong impact and emphasises their opinion or anger. You know, the kind which can be discussed over a cup of tea and/or cheese crackers and be resolved amiably. Sometimes, this temper may be channelled into force and excessive force into cruel violence. Now violence can have a soothing effect on temper but as the temper recedes from the individual, the acute realization of the damage already done comes as an utterly rude shock.My own rude shock came 2 days ago when during a mindless (and minor) altercation I used expletives to close the argument. Afterwards, I employed hurtful force in dealing with the other person.
