254
2007-03-25 13:27:00 Firstly, no, 254 is NOT the sequel to 300.In the 1987 (Reliance) Cricket World Cup, India lost to England in the Semi-Finals by 35 runs while chasing a total of 254. 254 was also the total score chasing which the Indian team crumbled against Sri Lanka in the 2007 World Cup's Group stage. Hmm. Interesting. More useless trivia for you!
You don't need legs to dance...
2007-03-25 12:50:00 ...all you need is a will. And Kamlesh Patel is a living proof of that. As a farmer's son living in rural Gujarat, he had one dream which he wished would come true. To be able to dance on his favourite TV show, Boogie Woogie which has been running on Sony TV for about 10 years now. There was a little problem for Kamlesh, though. Both his legs had stopped functioning. But that didn't hinder him from realizing his dream. He worked really hard for 4 years and was finally able to dance on the show as a guest performer. So how did he do it? He danced on his hands, of course. And what an awe inspiring performance it was. Here are some images:He actually climbed up and then jumped from the chair to the floor, half way during his performance. Just proves how determination and perseverence can overcome any handicap. Very inspiring. And I wish Kamlesh and Boogie Woogie all the best with their future endeavours! Arms
2007-03-25 12:12:00 While on a flight, I happened to sit beside an Australian-Indian. who pointed out something interesting to me while we were discussing tennis. And Roger Federer, of course (he has become the Schumacher of tennis, ya?). He mentioned something about Federer's arms.Observe the following pictures (clockwise): (1) Besides the constipated expression of victory on Federer's face, take note of his arms. Especially his wrists. Just notice them. Take a good look at the right arm. Then the left arm...(2) and (3) should make it obvious that Federer's left arm is only about half the size of his right arm! Why? I think because he plays with his right hand and has a one-handed backhand. Now compare his arms with his rival (picture below), Rafael Nadal or Rafa...Who has much more muscular arms but they are symmetric. Why, again? Because he has a two-handed backhand, though he plays with his left hand. Don't you just love useless trivia! More About: Arms

Must calm down
2007-03-23 22:17:00 Amidst the loud boos and jeering, Rahul Dravid arrives. Dravid: We lost 3-4 wickets early on, and then the pressure built up...Dude, you are paid so much to face the bloody pressure! No one said it will be easy. Yeh pressure ka hi to chakkar hai, bidu...But just a little bit of pressure, and they blow up like a overheated boiler.Explanation: Pressure pai giya ji...On a more positive note, congrats to Sri Lanka. Interestingly, I observe, that the man of the match was Mutthiah Muralitharan. A Sri Lankan Tamil. Playing with his Sinhala teammates in perfect tandem. Now that's the beauty of sport. 2007-03-23 21:42:00 Team India lets down once again. And in such a glorious manner. Greg Chappell: You are so fuckin' dead. Along with the rest of the team. What a shame. What a shoddy team and what a terrible performance.413 against Bermuda? It was bullshit.A simple target of 255 and they collapse like a pack of wet, mouldy cards. I wasted a whole day to watch them get humiliated. 185 all out. And they boast of the greatest batting line up in the world. Someone should bloody ban them and cancel all their endorsements. Let's see what they do then. Beaten by Bangladesh. Beaten by Sri Lanka. Truly world beaters. As for the Sri Lankan team. They brutally crushed Indian dreams in 96. Will never forget that day. And then they destroy the Indian team in this World Cup.No comments regarding them. But they do play good cricket. So much for that.Well, this World Cup ends for me here. Will wait for 2011 Cricket World Cup. As a graduate.Tick, tock. Tick, tock. p.s.- gotta watch Lagaan to cheer up...and can't wai...

Boring, Sir
2007-03-20 07:15:00 Today I went to campus for just a 1 hour tutorial as I had to present the solution to one tutorial question regarding AVL trees. After frantic googling last night and browsing through at least 3 textbooks, I still couldn't find the exact solution. So I walked up to the whiteboard today with a blank paper and an even blanker mind. The basic errors I made during the presentation, the fumbling for answers when the tutor fired his question incited smirks and hushed giggling from the bunch of geeks in the class. Who obviously knew that the maximum number of rotations which need to take place when you delete a node in AVL tree is log n. And the maximum number of rotations when you need to insert a node is always 2. Shoot me for jumbling the answers, you bastards. It is amazing how the most ball-less of all creatures only find strength in numbers.Anyways, after the tutorial, from which I did learn a lot, as I was making my way to the library to return a book (about C++ of course. its every... Dark trade
2007-03-20 07:04:00 One of the headlines in Yahoo's In the News section: Ghana looks back at dark history of slave trade. How sensitive to put dark and slave trade together. Pun, anyone? The main article is here. It describes the horrors of a slave fort on the coast of Ghana. The fort also housed a chapel, in its upper floors, above where the slaves were kept chained. Robert Kugbey, a guide at the fort, asks: "After buying and selling human beings, they came here and prayed to God. Where was God at that time?" More About: Dark , Trade

More Cricket Talk/RIP Bob Woolmer
2007-03-19 18:45:00 When I saw RIP Bob Woolmer on a friend's MSN messenger's personal message yesterday, I thought he meant it as a joke. Probably to suggest that Woolmer was in serious trouble since Pakistan is out of the World Cup. But when I accessed CricInfo.com later, I realized Bob had really passed away! And I am sure that Pakistan's loss to West Indies and Ireland were somehow responsible for it. Perhaps he committed suicide or the losses truly affected his well being. He had medical problems as well, confirmed by Pakistani officials. Anyways, may his soul rest in peace. Sad to see a life lost over a mere sport. While having a conversation over lunch with a Pakistani friend today, we talked about C++ (that's all I feel I am doing this semester) and cricket of course. I was informed that Pakistanis were feeling really sad over Woolmer passing away. Because he indeed was a good coach. So ironical how a single loss can blemish an entire career, making past achievements completely worthless. Als... More About: Cricket , Rick , Talk , More

Outplayed and Outrained
2007-03-17 23:25:00 India lost its first game in the Cricket World Cup 2007 to Bangladesh. How painful. Ouch. The much hyped Indian team was outplayed in all aspects: batting, bowling and fielding by the once laughable Bangladesh, which is slowly building up a reputation of being a Giant Killer. And perhaps the Indian team needed a jolt to wake up from their slumber as well. Ever since Greg Chappell (that bastard) has started coaching India, I've observed the performance slide down to its present nadir. The focus on cultivating cricketing personalities rather than a cricketing team has only served the cause. In this match, the very moment Yuvraj Singh's wicket was gone, the rest of the team crumbled as well. The tail enders showed some guts, but when there's just a wicket left, nothing much can really be done, ya?The bowling was miserable as well. Sehwag took two quick wickets but too late in the game. The pace attack was lousy. The spinners were taking everyone for a spin. Was remindful of the misera... More About: Play , Rain , Train , TRAI , Trained

2007-03-16 18:05:00 I have a good time laughing when I look at some of the search keywords which lead people to my blog. Like this one:pic of neeru bajwa sweating it outNow if you will excuse me, I need to bang my head on the wall! And before I go, here's a picture of Neeru Bajwa with her fiance, Amit Sadh. And no, she isn't sweating. Enjoy! Also, they are living together for the moment. Yes, in the oh-so-conservative India. Here's an article on the topic.
