Ibanag In the City
I reside in the city but live the suburban life of an Ibanag. Blending the many beautiful ways of my mother and her distinctly Ibanag cultural heritage, I have become my own, noting my strengths, my frailties. This is me and how I see life. The sig

All I want for Christmas is a Turntable Part 2
2007-12-22 17:13:00
From: reviews.cnet.comVinyl rules: shopping for turntables in the digital ageRemember the old record player that you put out to pasture 15 or 20 years ago? Turns out that that "dead" technology offers the potential for sound quality that's far superior to what you're hearing from your CD collection or your MP3 player, so much so that the joys of vinyl are being rediscovered by a new generation of music fans. CNET takes a look at three turntables for music lovers of any budget that will put your iPod on the defensive.By Steve Guttenberg (February 23, 2006)The past decade has seen digital media almost completely subsume the consumer entertainment world. HDTV is an all-digital standard; DVD has all but killed off old-fashioned analog VHS; cell phone networks have long since gone digital--the list goes on and on. The music industry was a trailblazer in digitization, with the compact disc laying the groundwork for the current MP3 era. But this seemingly inevitable march toward the digi...

On Feeling Self-Important
2007-12-18 13:32:00
“The result you got was the communication you intended”. Werner Erhard. “Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm -- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.” T.S. Eliot “I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.” Oscar Wilde “Self-importance is man's greatest enemy. What weakens him is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of his fellow men. Self-importance requires that one spend most of one's life ...

Technology to a Golden Ibanag girl
2007-12-16 15:51:00
People like myself who has reached the golden years normally have a difficult time dealing with technology. I know because I actually experience it at times. Talk about mobile phones - I have the bluetooth and the IR feature. Back then I didn't know how to make it work. The User's Manual is mostly not user-friendly :-) And what about operating the DVD player? Years ago I got confused figuring out which cable went with all the red, white and yellow jacks on the TV.It didn't help that I worked at a software company and my background is really liberal arts.Everything I know about technology is self-taught. Yes, out of my own initiative. I'm not sure if I am correct but I found out that techies are not the best teachers. Possessing a technician's mindset they always think in terms of procedures -- detailed and programmed flow of things. But hanging out with them made me understand them better, their idiosyncratic moods and impatience with things.Today, I am more or less confident. ...

If I am old why do I want an iPod?
2007-12-15 15:08:00
If you're a new owner of an Ipod , and kindda matured like myself have you ever wondered:How many songs can iPod shuffle hold? Up to 120 songs on the 512 MB model and up to 240 songs on the 1 GB model (based on 128 kbps AAC files at 4 minutes per song). When the option to "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" is selected, are duplicate files added to the iTunes library? No. The 128 kbps AAC versions of the files are not stored anywhere on the computer. When songs are transferred to iPod shuffle, is artwork stripped from the files? No. The exception is if you select the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" option, the artwork will not be included in the converted 128 kbps AAC versions of the files. Is it possible for iPod shuffle to play music when connected to a USB port even if it's not mounted or in disk mode? No. How can I tell if iPod shuffle is charging?Eject iPod shuffle in iTunes, but leave it physically connected to the USB port. The front LE...
Ibanag's Conversations on shopping carts
2007-12-13 13:39:00
My friend called me the other day to ask if I knew something about shopping cart software. She was thinking of putting up an ecommerce site to sell items catering to Filipino OFW's. I said I was just browsing over this site, which talks about what I think is exactly what she needs.Of course I told her about Ashop Commerce, a leading provider of hosted shopping cart software. As one of the leading shopping cart software supplier, Ashop provides a total solutions online shopping cart package which is easy on the budget, is feature-rich, search engine optimized, and provides unlimited design templates to choose from, without you having to worry about full technical and customer service support at all.Ashop shopping cart software requires no programming or plug-ins to get it running. Instead it provides a custom HTML feature that highlights rich text editors, best for non-programmers like us. I told her you know how to blog, you'd know how to use this software. What's mor...

Toast and Me and the Entrecard Contest
2007-12-13 08:40:00
I got this mail from a fellow member at my blog log community. You can find the address here He is officially launching this Entrecard contest essentially I think to help promote Entrecard, another blog networking community which was launched recently. Ten winners will each receive 100 EntreCard points. The points as I understand it can be used to advertise in other people blogs. When you sign up with Entrecard, you will need to create a 125×125 button that represents your blog. The Entrecard widget with your blog name or title indicated will be placed in your blog. Next you’ll go around clicking on the “Drop Yours” space on other member's blogs. This will earn you credits. Credits that you need to advertise on other blogs. So, the more you click the more credits you get. And as you earn more credits, the more chances you have to advertise in other peoples' blogs. So if you want to join all you need to do is:1. Subscribe to his RSS feeds.2. Write a post on your site or blo...

Nature's Hidden Laws Part 2- Law of Affirmation
2007-12-11 10:48:00
The “Law of Affirmation says that whatever goals you repeat over and over in a positive, present tense, and personal way will be accepted by your subconscious as commands. They will begin to be drawn into your life by the law of attraction".This is amazing: "The key to the Law of Affirmation is that your subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between something that is vividly imagined or real. This is why you’ll hear speakers and trainers say, ‘Say it like you already own it’. Simple ways in which you can maximize the Law of Affirmation.1. Write your goals out every day. Be specific. Say, I like this __________________. It is so sleek and pretty; imagining it is already in your possession. 2. Repeat them out loud. You get used to the sound of your own voice over time. In the beginning, when you first verbalize a new goal, you feel weird. It is only natural because goals are designed to stretch you to become a person you have never been before. You are being pulled out ...

Nature's Hidden Laws Part 1 - The Law of Attraction
2007-12-08 17:01:00
I found this site which speaks about the nine hidden laws of Nature. This is the first of nine. Read on. There might be something to be of value in what it is saying. The Law of Attraction which is said to have began in 3000 B.C. can be summarized in two words – Think Positive.“This great Law says that 'You are a living magnet'. You invariably attract into your life people and situations in harmony with your dominant thoughts. You have probably heard of the Principle of Sympathetic Resonance. This is where you strike a musical note (such as “A”) on a piano. If you walk across the room to the guitar sitting by itself in the corner you will find the “A” string vibrating in harmony with the piano. With a closer look you will see that we live in a world of vibration. Everything is vibrating. We may not see it with our physical eyesight yet under a microscope we know that nothing rests. Everything is in a constant state of vibration. Thought is one of the highest forms of v...

Ibanag Screenshot Widgets
2007-12-06 05:35:00
So see above screenshots among many others I have been taking for some obvious and unexplained reasons :-)During my daily blogging ritual it is sometimes difficult for me to access my jpeg and doc files because I just borrow this laptop. When the laptop owner is himself doing his blogs (I taught him how), which he does daily as well, I have no option but to use my son's desktop. I seldom use his desktop because my back aches. His computer chair was calibrated for a tall person. I am only 5 feet and 4 inches. And yes, because he is tall :-)My son also informed me that I do not need to worry about my files in another computer device, because I can easily access it. Sigh. Yes, eeeeeasily he says. There's nothing to it? Because, the "my network places" shall take care of that. The golden (I am past 50) lotusflower tried to do as instructed. Voila! I am embarrassed to admit. My files are not anywhere near where I could find it. Arrrgh!I thought I could use Google Docs. But then again d...

Google and Yahoo on various mobile devices
2007-12-02 11:13:00
I don't have the statistics of just how many Web-enabled phones have been sold, so far, this part of the world but this was what I gathered:Yahoo is now available on the following cellphones:1. Nokia Series 60, 5300 Xpress Music phones, Series 402. Motorola Linux-based mobile devices, MOTORAZR maxx V6 and MOTORAZR V3xx devices3. Samsung SGH-E5704. LG (unspecified phone models)Google enabled mobile phones:1. Sony Ericsson2. Samsung3. LG4.Something weird happened about the info I gathered regarding the above. The specific phone models which I gathered from different news releases were lost while I was trying to rearrange the phone images inside my post. WTF. Arrrgghh. I will try to get the info again to complete this post.Take note that Samsung mobile phones are enabled for Google and Yahoo Searches.(Unfortunately, they are each on different models.)By the way, to compare Google and Yahoo Search on mobile check out this web address I found.

Rebel without a cause?
2007-12-01 13:22:00
This is my interpretation of what I saw after what happened last Thursday, when Senator-elect Antonio Trillanes IV together with his group tried to instigate the Filipinos to oust our President Gloria M. Arroyo and occupied a 5 star hotel in the financial district of Makati. Not too long ago, Senator Trillanes together with the so-called Magdalo group of soldiers occupied Oakwood Hotel, also in Makati. Being tried for this crime and imprisoned, he could not serve his term as a senator despite being elected by 11 million people in the recent Senatorial elections.Frustrated, perhaps, these were his thoughts, the day he and General Danny Lim walked out of a court hearing: When all other rights are taken away, the right of rebellion is made perfect. -Thomas Paine- Old forms of government finally grow so oppressive that they mus...

Help Find Carol in Tucson, Arizona

I read Moonshadow's blog. Perhaps, we can help find Carol . Below, I am quoting Moonshadow's appeal to those living in Tucson , Arizona .In any case please find Carol's photo here."This is my sister Carol, she lives in Tucson, AZ. Or at least she did the last time I talked to her. Over the years she's had some rough breaks, made some wrong turns taking her down some dark roads. But a couple of years ago she started turning that all around and was starting to get her head above water where she could breath again. I think all the oxygen might have been making her a little light headed. Then a few months ago in the midst of a new stressful job, the lady she was working for blew smoke in her face. I won't go into the details but sis couldn't remain at the job under the circumstances. I'm not real sure what all happened after that because her phone wasn't working right and she's never been the best about keeping touch. The apartment she was staying in was connected to the job, Mom ...

Monetizing Blogs 101
2007-11-27 13:46:00
Does this image look like we have started earning from our blogs?I have added a couple of monetizing tools in my blogs. I just wanted to see how it goes. Is it true that you can earn some cash? How far can anyone go? Here's the story. Last September, I got some codes from auction ads, placed it on two or three of my sidebar panels. The first day was great. I saw the ads displayed. The next day, when I checked, the ads were gone. Greenhorn as I am in this blogging thing, I thought WTF happened? You see, I am seldom profane :-(Hello. Anybody home? Little did I know that I am not really supposed to see these ads. DUH! Next thing I knew, I had removed the codes. That was early September.Without any reason, I checked my account from auction ads last week. Surprise!!! My account said I had US$25. It was paid for the number of blog page impressions. :-) Bigggg Grinnn :) Lesson I learned. IT WORKS!!! Need I say more?Try AuctionAds

My Radical Blog reviews Ibanag
2007-11-26 16:45:00
My radical gave this blog a very, very encouraging review. Which makes me want to do better. I am like a child getting a present, in case you didn't notice :-)Here's the review:This is a nice clean well laid out blog about the life and times of a Filipino woman (I may wrong - correct me if I am). The articles are well written with plenty of photos and graphics. The side bar is fairly full but well spaced out - I have mentioned in another review about centering the widgets in the side bar - this can often be done by simply entering the command prior to the widget or buttons script - you may also need the tag after the script.I like the clean uncluttered look of this blog. The articles are interesting and the graphics generally well placed. There are a couple of photos that have no white space between the picture and the text - depending on how the graphics have been inserted you can use CSS to place graphics or use HTML (the HTML code has been deprecated but is still functional fo...

EmBed with Intelligence
2007-11-24 11:08:00
From: http://www.strategyanalytics.net"With processing technology becoming smaller, faster and cheaper, it is now possible to embed tiny computer chips into the most ordinary objects, providing these objects with the ability to sense their environments, to process information, to initiate action, and to communicate with other devices. Data interpretation, pattern recognition and reasoning technologies need to be used correctly, in order for these objects to behave intelligently. Embedded in the software and hardware design of network-enabled devices and Web-based services, this intelligence is becoming the key competitive differentiator for future products and services. As devices become smarter, and as services delivered become more personalized, the interconnected nature of large numbers of disparate computing and consumer devices within environments that are themselves learning about us, has created a notion of pervasive intelligence. In the future, each device that a user owns mus...

Scrap Metal Takes Over Marikina City
2007-11-23 09:56:00
How can scrap metal take over a city? Read thisI am a proud resident of Marikina. Every year I enthusiastically wait for the celebration of Christmas in this city known for its warmth and courteous people. Marikeno's will celebrate the Yuletide season this year with gigantic robots dressed up with Santa's cap and adorned with colorful Christmas trimmings and buntings. The robots are scattered all around the city and some proudly displayed at the City Hall. Residents are having a grand time taking pictures of their children with the Christmas robots. Why the techno theme? From what I heard, Marikina City keeps a lot of old and unusable metal scrap and plastic discards in its warehouses. This year, instead of spending money to buy Christmas decor to adorn the city, officials decided to build Gundam like robot figures. Towering from one foot to 10 feet high the gigantic scrap metal figures were assembled to signify and cheer the Christmas holidays.Truly a unique idea, Marikina, agai...

Looking to earn some cash
2007-11-22 10:17:00
No dice as they say. I am not sure if announcing that I put up an amazon store through an earlier post was the reason why it was taken out of my blog. Deciding to try adsense early this week I got excited when the ads came out. But for a few hours :-( I guess. Because when I got back, nada - it's gone. Now I am in a dilemma. Was there something about their 'rules' I didn't understand or missed out or perhaps failed to understand? The terms of use were not exactly brief and uncomplicated in my opinion. It wasn't fine printed or anything but does anyone really read these things in its entirety. I wonder. Here I am looking for some cash. Just for the heck of it really. But hey, if things turn out alright, why not? I'd feel accomplished? Is that the right term? For the record, I have earned 35 cents since Monday :-) Like a child getting her first toy it was pure pleasure. Felt like I won big bucks. It's not the money, you see. I am not sure if I am making sense here. But really, ...

Honesty? But the truth hurts
2007-11-20 07:33:00
Something to ponder on today...I saw this blog. And I liked the message. Commenting I said: Hi there, Be truthful no matter how painful it could get. That is the ideal. But how many of us practice this? People in government particularly. Politicians who have the gall to twist the truth at every instance and still manage to look you straight in the eye. Ahhh, "honesty is hardly ever heard", goes the song... Nevertheless, I wish everyone honesty in their seemingly, ordinary daily lives. The author's response was:Thank you for your comment, lotusflower.Honesty may be a rarity in our world of smoke and mirrors, but I'm glad it struck a chord with you.Dishonesty stems from believing that a lie will impress others or bring unearned value, but for the most part a fraudulent person is finally trapped in his own dung.Personally, I like to sleep well each night knowing that the way I conduct myself each day is built on integrity and service. Maybe that is the slower p...

My Ibanag Store

I just did this early tonight, took a screenshot of my Amazon Store , cut and pasted it on my sidebar according to instructions. But alas, no amazon store in sight. Sigh. Ibanag and Blogging Fusion
2007-11-16 09:58:00
I got into this new blogging community. Well, to increase my online visibility, that's why. Initially, blogging was a means to drown my on and off depression. It kept me busy and productive in a way and I am succeeding I suppose. My new shot of adrenaline urges me to take it to the next level. Meaning - on a permanent basis, if things go well. The 'next level' means to make something out my blog/s. How on earth I'd accomplish that is another story. But that's my plan. For starters, I am trying to change the look of my blog. At the moment I could not afford to ask a professional to change my blog's design. To improve it aesthetically, you see. I am on my way. The sooner the better. Once I get something going, I promise I will give Ibanag In the City a blog makeover. Also as part of the change, I removed the widgets of unproductive communities (in terms of increasing my blog's audience or readers). I know content has also something to do with that and I realize I need to...

Ibanag na Filipina ako - ikaw?
2007-11-14 10:22:00
I stumbled upon this web campaign here. After browsing through the site I thought what a great idea, something worth supporting - all the way. My take:1. Filipina s are more than just mail-order brides. We are great wives to our husbands, mothers to our children, daughters to our parents, sisters to our siblings, girlfriends to our boyfriends, confidantes to our friends.2. Filipinas are not only good domestic helpers. We are competent accountants, teachers, writers, lawyers, media practitioners, office workers, salespersons, factory workers, market vendors.3. Filipinas are not only great caregivers but we are also terrific nurses, doctors, medical professionals, social workers, etc.4. Filipinas are also capable call center workers, baristas, cooks, chefs, sometimes working and grinding the graveyard shift.5. Filipinas also include self sacrificing OFW's and 'japayukis', striving overseas-based singers and band artists, fashion industry workers, ect.I believe all these Filipina...
who taxes cigarettes?
2007-11-13 05:35:00
Our local broadsheet yesterday reports that the World Health Organization (WHO) is urging our government to "raise the excise tax on cigarettes, saying" our "measly tax was not helping the cause of fighting tobacco related diseases". Yes! Yes! Yes!According to the report our cigarette taxes are small compared to:Singapore - US$192.56 per 1,000 sticksBrunei - US$39.30 per 1,000 sticksMalaysia - US$23.29 per 1,000 sticksPhilippines - US$2.42 up to 29.28 per 1,000 sticks More taxes, ergo more expensive cigarettes. Hopefully, less smokers. The real benefit from this move if ever, are the more substantive ones -- health. It far outweighs the hope that additional taxes from this industry will help boost our economy further. Sigh. But I am sure lobbyists are busy doing their thing again. Another sigh :-( But then again.Cheers!

Meme from Megha

This is long overdue. And I need to do this now. Megha meme-d me. I think to do this, I am supposed to enumerate 7 things you don't know about me and then tag 7 individuals to ask them to do the same. It's one way of promoting our blogs! I think this is my simplistic definition of the meme. So here goes: Seven (7) Things You Don't Know About Me1. I used to consult my horoscope everyday. Yes, from the newspapers. At that time, my horoscope defined what happen with my day. Funny huh? 2. I used to work in the IT industry. Eight years were spent for a computer software company, largely selling software for IBM's big mainframe boxes.3. A U.S company with regional office in Singapore, gave me an opportunity of a lifetime in 1992. They asked me to be their partner in selling software research services here in my country. And I did that for them for more than 5 years.4. I had my first baby when I was 23 years old. As a mommy newbie I had a doubly difficult time because my personal life ...
