Having a Car
2008-04-15 02:15:00
I have been trying to get a car for myself ever since I got here. Aside from going around when I'm bored with the campus, I feel I need a car if I want to do some internships. Not easy to get a car though. Especially with a stingy dad! >."Dad.. are you reading this?"Anyway, though cars here are cheap, compared to Malaysian cars, gas (Yup! They don't call it petrol) here is quite pricey. Malaysians shouldn't complain so much about the gas prices because the government is already subsidizing quite an amount. Not to mention car insurance! It is so important over here. If you don't own one, you'll get a ticket if you get caught and over here in the States, there's no such thing as "paying the police for their afternoon snack".Normal insurance will be about $80 to $100 something a month. Depends what kind of insurance you get. They have two kinds. One is for your car, and the other is for the car that you hit. Though most poor college students only buy insurance for the other car, ...
Sleeping well..
2008-04-14 14:07:00
Daisaku Ikeda once said that we should work our hardest during our youth, challenging ourselves to everything and when you fall asleep once you hit the pillow in the night, you knew you had a satisfying day.Ever since coming here, and joining the swim team, the moment I hit the pillow, I fall asleep. I don't really know whether its a good thing or not. I'm always so tired! You can never get enough sleep! Boohoo.. I just skipped my Japanese class this afternoon to sleep. Terrible! I never skip class for no reason. I know I know I'm a nerd but.. Boohoo..But I guess its a good thing. Knowing that I'm living my life to the fullest here. Wonder if having a memory foam mattress will make any difference?http://www.text-link-ads.com/x ml_blogger.php?inventory_key=074S6E16OYNQ XLZR0FKM

Window Rock
2008-04-02 08:24:00
Note: I was asked to write a reflection of one of the events during my Alternate Spring Break experience. I chose Window Rock and this was what I wrote. After a hard day?s of work and accumulated lack of sleep, I wasn?t really interested in the field trip to window rock. What could be so interesting about this place? I just want to have dinner and go and sleep! That was the only thought that my poor tired brain could muster that day. But when we first got a glimpse of the magnificent view of the amazing ?hole? in the middle of a big huge rock mountain, I knew that I was the luckiest girl ever!First off, coming from Malaysia, I never thought I would ever be able to witness a scene like this. Malaysia is a tropical country with green mountains everywhere, no where can you see rows and rows of orange, brownish rocks. Nature is such a beautiful creation. How can a big huge mountain have a ?hole? in the middle? I?m still reeling in shock at nature?s beauty! How lucky we are as human beings...
Playing Golf!
2008-04-02 08:17:00
My dad finally got a video camera for himself. I swear! It is so unfair that my family gets to see me when we talk on the webcam but I never get to see them. They can see how fat I have gotten but I have no idea how they have change!Imagine! It has been almost a year since I last saw my parents! It was such a weird feeling, seeing my dad for the first time after 8 months! He didn't really aged much, or change much but it kinda made me realize how much I miss my parents. I asked him if he has gotten fatter or his belly has gotten bigger, and he purposely stood sideways to show me his fit belly! My dad is so cute! =) I wonder if he still plays golf? I havent seen much golf courses around here. Though I heard Brandon resorts have really nice golf courses. Wonder if I will ever play golf? Hmm.. I think I still prefer swimming! ^.^http://www.text-link-ads.com/xml_blogg er.php?inventory_key=074S6E16OYNQXLZR0FKM

Money for your Life?
2008-04-02 08:16:00
Ever since coming to US, I just realized how great the medical insurance here is. I don't know about the medical insurance in Malaysia but over here, everything is paid for when you have a medical insurance! It is compulsory to have a medical insurance in my university. I thought it was a total waste of money because that's the mentality back home. You only get insurance when you "think" you're gonna die. But ever since coming over here and having my own insurance, I have gotten so many benefits from it. A lot of vaccinations are covered by the insurance, even pap smear, or the cervical cancer prevention vaccination. I really have to go find out the other benefits that this insurance gives and make use of it as much as possible! Hehe.. I wonder how the term life insurance here is?http://www.text-link-ads.com/xml_blogg er.php?inventory_key=074S6E16OYNQXLZR0FKM

Going Around the States!
2008-03-29 22:48:00
Being in the states can be a very good thing. You can travel to as many states as you want and the interesting thing is that all the states are as different as night and day. Ok.. not that much difference but if you come from Malaysia, you kinda feel that all states are almost the same. Even being in California itself is interesting. San Francisco and LA is totally different! I absolutely love San Francisco! I'm in love with that place!!! =)There are so many places that I wanna go. I have another 3 winter breaks to go but I wanna spent all my time in SF!!! Bad bad bad. I wanna go to New York too though. Money is a big problem.. Booohoo.. but sometimes you can get really great deals online. Branson, Missouri is one of the interesting places too. It has the name of the "Live Music Capital of the World". It has lots of theme parks, like the Hollywood Wax Museum, Ripley's Believe it Or Not (God.. I love this!), Go-Kart.. best for kids and families! The packages are really tempting too...

I'm back!
2008-03-24 03:25:00
Wow... this has been a super amazing trip! I sometimes can't believe how lucky I am to be able to experience all these all at once in such a short period of time. First it was Columbia and now Arizona. And its not only just visiting Arizona and going around the tourist attractions. I actually went to the Navajo Reservation and visited the Navajo people. I learned so much about the native American Indian people. Not only did I visited their houses with them welcoming us with open arms, I ate their food, visited the office of President of the Navajo nation, have them perform a religious ceremony to us wishing us a safe journey back, and learned all about their creation story, culture, and lifestyle of the Navajo people.I never knew a single thing about any Native Americans before I went on this trip let alone who the Navajo people were. But now I can safely say that I do know something about them. That they are a group of strong people that in the midst of adversity, can still build ...

Parting Gift
2008-03-24 03:10:00
You know always when you watch love stories, whenever the girl in the story is going somewhere far away, the boy will always give her something precious of his for her to keep and have it by her side, well.. I always loved this part and hoped that someday, my boyfriend will give me something of his to keep by my side too. I know these Korean and Japanese dramas are too dramatic and long distance relationship barely works, but don't you think its romantic when you're at the airport ready to part with your boyfriend/girlfriend, they suddenly take out their favorite thing and give it to you? Fully knowing that they will have to part with it too?Sigh.. So romantic!Cody didn't exactly gave me his watch minutes before we parted, instead.. I actually asked him way before hand to give me his watch so I can wear it when I go to the States. And he did. =) His precious CK watch that cost around RM350 (USD 110). I absolutely love his watch. No.. its not because of the brand. Really! =| Hehe....

Here I go again! Going off to some unknown land! I'm finally gonna have one week of spring break and I'm going to wake up at 5am tomorrow to sit on the bus for 10 hours to get to a place that has confuse weather!!!!Argh.. I'm tired! Boohooooooooooo..We're going to volunteer our services there by helping the native indians dig a trench for a water tank, go to orphanages and stuff. Its gonna be the Navajo Nation. Whatever that is. Not really sure yet! haha..Will be back on Thursday! Boohoo.. Hope this is gonna be a fun trip. I know I don't sound as excited as I should be but I'm really tired! =(Good night everyone and have a nice week!http://www.text-link-ads.com/xml_blo gger.php?inventory_key=074S6E16OYNQXLZR0F KM

Traveling again!
2008-03-15 08:47:00
I just spoke to my mum on skype just now and it seems that she's planing a trip to UK this summer holidays! My mum can be so cute sometimes. I remember my dad always teasing my mum, saying that her only aim in life is to plan holidays for the family but the irony thing is everyday is a holiday for her!Haha.. I know.. I know.. being a mum is a full time job. =)But I'm kinda reluctant to travel again. I don't really know why! I have always love traveling and to go to Europe is one of my dreams! But I miss Malaysia and I wanna spent as long as possible there! Hmm.. I don't know. I'll just see how its gonna be. Maybe my mum will get really good vacation deals! Who knows! Maybe I'll get bored with Malaysia and complain about the weather two days after I touch down! hehe.. I miss the food though..You can't imagine..!Counting down the days to teh-o-ais-limau!!! Typing essays!
2008-03-15 08:30:00
I had last midterm on Thursday and it was the most intense midterm I have ever had. Ok.. scratch that.. all midterms are terrible but that was absolutely heart pumping!!!The first session was to identify key words for all the readings we had done in the semester. This is a pacbasin class so basically we learned about the countries in the Pacific Basin. Their history, politics and stuff. The first session was okay, with questions like, explain who is Mongkut, or encomienda (something about the system during America's colonization where the native indians offered labor in return for the settler's protection and the Christianity teachings).. stuff like that. But after that, we were assigned to write a 350 to 500 words essay in 50 minutes about the reason why Japan and China had different foreign relations in the 18th and 19th century. Oh my goodness! It definitely didn't help much even though it was an open book exam! While I was finding for information, I could feel my hands shaking....

I never knew I would do this but recently I have joined the Taiko club in my university. For those not very inteligent people.. (=P), taiko is a type of traditional Japanese drum which is played by the Japanese. (duh!) The Chinese have one like that too, I think. I remember seeing the Chinese Society in my high school performing during school events and though I would enjoy the performance, I always thought they were kinda monster-like! Screaming like crazy people and jumping here and there! And here I am, a soft princess joining Taiko! =.=I joined it last semester because I was totally blown away by the performance the Taiko members gave during my orientation week. And to tell u the truth, I didn't really enjoyed it in the beginning coz we only played on tyres (coz drums are too preciously expensive) and the first few practices were boring. This is not me.. Just some picture I stole randomly. This is what it looks like though! But now.. when we are starting to be better and starting t...

2008-03-14 05:32:00
Oh my god..! Mid-terms are finally over!!! This is the most intense week I have ever had!!! Seriously!!! I miss the feeling of hanging out and basically doing nothing. Just lying down on my pillows, looking at the ceiling and day-dreaming... Don't you feel you need those days too?But I'm really happy now! My mid-terms are over and everything is all good. I just hope I didn't do too badly. I had 50 minutes to write a 500 words essay on the difference between the foreign relationship of China and Japan. It was an intense 50 minutes and at the very last 2 minutes, I realized I had 150 words extra and without reading too much, I deleted one whole paragraph of my essay! Thank god for Microsoft though. Phew! Made things much easier! Its Friday tomorrow and I have a Spanish test! Boohoo.. Mi no me gusta examen! Ah.. just a few days more. I swear.. this is my toughest week ever!!! All due to my best friend, procrastination, I have left my mid-term bring home exam for my human rights class till the very last day to start doing it. I was given a week and I only completed it at 3:30 am today when it was due 10am that day itself. And tomorrow, I have another mid-term but this is gonna be an in-class paper.I always have a dilemma, should I go and have a good night's sleep and have a energize brain tomorrow but didn't do any studying or, should I study the whole night but have a dead brain tomorrow?Don't tell me that I should have studied earlier coz its a little too late now but..Tell me.. what should I do?Though I always end up making sure I read everything before I go to bed, with my dead brain! What do you think of this Little Guy?

When I was in high school, I used to be obsessed with cute little cartoons from Japan. I swear.. these Japanese people are expert in letting people succumb to marketing gimmicks and buy all things cute. Me and my high school friend would fight between each other to decide who was the cutest! For some reason, we have totally different taste. She would like Tarepanda, and I would like the bubble dog, which for some reason I can't find any pictures of it online, mainly because I don't know the name. Boohoo..It is this white dog that looks people use to call it Pao Pao Gou! Do you remember that?Anyway.. She would like Moshimaro, and I would like the depressed Kogepan. The burnt bread that ones to lead a normal life.Though I realize I dont really like any of them anymore. I guess I grew out of it. Easter is coming!!! I don't really know what holidays this is all about but I know from reading story books that its all about beautifully colored eggs with candies and chocolates inside!!!I have two friends that are obsessed with candies and sweets! Two Japanese friends, one guy and one girl! Seriously, I have never met anyone as crazy as them about anything sweet! This skinny friend of mine (UNFAIR!) can finish one whole box of chocolate in one hour and have another one the next hour. These two friends put together and finish a whole ice-cream store in just 3 hours! They are absolutely crazy!!!Their birthdays are coming and me and my friends are planing to have a Easter celebration for them! We bought empty colored eggs and plan to put candies inside and hide them all over campus! They can slowly go find their hidden treasures in the canyon, under the table and stuff. Can't wait! hehe..But.. I have to buy presents for them too and I rarely go out!!! Wow.. What is becoming of Malaysia?
2008-03-10 18:20:00
I have always been not very interested with politics, especially the ones happening in Malaysia , though I do know some basics things, like the stuff I learn in Pengajian Am when I was in Form 6 and that Malaysia is mainly govern by BN and that all the opposition parties though there exist, they don't really play a big role in anything. But this year its absolutely different!!! Wow.. I am so surprised!!! Selangor is under DAP now!!! Wowowowow.... It is such a weird feeling finding it out from the newspaper online. I know there was gonna be an election on Saturday but I kinda forgot about it till Cody mentioned it to me during one of our daily phone calls. He told me that DAP has won Selangor!!! I was like.. "What?" That has never happen before!!! Selangor? One of the major cities in Malaysia is not under BN anymore?Wow.. what does this mean then? Decrease toll rates? No more traffic samans? What can the new ruling party do? What are they allowed to do?And BN has less than two-thirds ...

Building a Coffin for yourself..
2008-03-06 23:51:00
Haha.. sounds a bit far fetch and weird right? Why would people wanna talk about death let alone start building a coffin for yourself? Especially for the Chinese, they'll ask you to go touch wood and never mention death again. But how much can we prepare for our own death? Till what point should we prepare until it gets a little too scary? People say the more you think about it, the more it will happen. But in this modern age, does it still hold true? There are so many burial policy out there now.. there's funeral life insurance that covers the cost of medical fees and burial charges, unpaid credit cards, home and car loans.. Should we prepare for the worst?Everyone needs to die someday but what about those people that are left behind?http://www.text-link-ads.com/xml_b logger.php?inventory_key=074S6E16OYNQXLZR 0FKM

Fast Internet Speed

Without fast internet speed, you can't upload youtube videos, you can't listen to internet radio, or pandora box, you can't even look at blogs because photos takes ages to load!!!The internet speed in US is fairly fast compared to Malaysia but for some reason, the internet connection in my room is slower than other places. I was kinda preparing to stay in my room on my 21st birthday. Not that I was complaining or anything but I think society has sort of put an expectation on one's 21st birthday celebration. Don't ya think so?That just because you have reached 21, that it is your 21st birthday, you must have a big celebration, a 3 days 3 nights thing, with you getting all wasted because you're finally legal to drink..And if you stay in your room the whole day, that means you have NO LIFE!!!!Not that I'm implying anyone who doesn't have that kinda birthdays are losers but this is what children are fed of since they were young.Though my birthday didn't include me clubbing the whole night and being all wasted, it was amazing in its own special way.My special way! =)My friends came over at 1240am (yeah.. I absolutely love it.Coming from Malaysia, you never know how to appreciate the sun because its always there but here.. every minute of the sun being there is a blessing!!!I just sat out under the sun for 30 minutes just lying there doing nothing. Can friendship last a lifetime?
2008-02-24 23:28:00
I used to have one best friend when I was back in high school. (Why am I using the past tense 'used'?) We were super close, totally inseparable. We were in the same class for 4 out of 5 years of high school and though we sat together in class, when we got home, we would spend another 2 to 3 hours talking on the phone! I don't know what we talked about but I remember my dad always teasing me wondering how can two people talk so much!!! I remember her staying over in my house and we would lie side by side and talk about our dreams and worries until 6am in the morning. Same thing would happen when I stayed over at her place. I would go over to her house and have dinner with her family and vice versa. We were best of friends. But somewhere along the way.. things started to change. I don't know if its just me or its the both of us but I guess we just don't click anymore. There are some friends that you don't see for ages and when you do get in touch, its like nothing has change. You ...

I know I shouldn't complain so much and I HAVE been complaining a lot lately but... Argh...!!! Studies are getting harder and harder by the day! Its just the fourth week of the semester and I'm already almost drowning!!! Boohooooo...I'm 5 classes behind on my readings for my human rights class, which is around 50 pages a class, 2 quizzes on Tuesday which I have no idea what is it about at all, and a 70 page reading on Japan and China culture due Tuesday too. And with a class of 20 people, you can't escape not reading because you wont be joining in the conversation. What would happen, you ask. Well.. the professor will know you did not read the readings and give you a low participation grade at the end of the semester thus affecting your overall grade!Ok.. I have to stop complaining. My destructive Best Friend
2008-02-22 05:14:00
Oh my goodness.. I know I have bad management and that I am a procrastinator, but I sort of thought I would grow out of it.. since elementary school!!!Ever since I was in Elementary school, I would leave my homework till the very last minute on Sunday night to complete it. I would go out with my family during the weekends and when they would ask me if I had finish my homework, I will tell them in my straightest voice "YES... Mum!!!", indicating that they were being naging and should know better than to ask their perfect daughter whether she had finish her homework or not. Of course I did my homework, what do you think? And I would proceed to feel all guilty and wondering if I can finish my homework in the 10 minutes that I estimate would take me to complete the homework. But obviously I would take longer than that 10 minutes. Sometimes I would even have to bring my homework to class the next day and copy off someone's book. And though each week I would tell myself I would do it on F...
