An Unexpected Nugget
2007-12-20 02:47:00 Whilst looking for a web site for Rockdale Plaza I found a federal government funded web site that had me asking why? The web site in question is the National Public Toilet Map. Now on first glance I had a chuckle and was questioning why in the hell would a country be in need ... More About: General

The Geek Rides Again
2007-12-19 04:31:00 Today the geek in me has been dominant. I have today upgraded WordPress, fitted the relevant code to make the theme widget aware, converted the sidebar as much as possible to become a widget hive. I even submitted the site to a couple of directories. I have also taken delivery of a ... More About: Geek

The Camels Back has Broken
2007-12-19 02:23:00 Today I have lodged a request for the inspection of the neighbours cats with the RSPCA. I am not going into further details, but needless to say I saw further evidence of maltreatment of the brood. I hope they come soon and remove the distress of both ourselves and the neighbourhood. What I Have Learnt So Far
2007-12-18 22:30:00 I thought that I would compose an article on what I have learnt about gardening to date. Of course this focuses on my experiences in my little urban patch. Here is the list and my thoughts behind each principle learnt. Expect Failures No matter how good and diligent you are, some plants will fail. ... More About: Gardening

The Many Gifts of a Worm Farm
2007-12-18 02:49:00 During recent posts I advised that I had used some of the composted materials in recent plantings. All of those plants are taking off. However, the rich compost is only part of the benefits of worm farming. The second benefit is the natural liquid fertiliser that is produced. This morning I ... A Direction in Life Leads to a Direction of the Blog
2007-12-17 06:00:00 I am quite proud of the convergance of my gardening and blog life. Both are bearing fruit, pardon the pun. Clearly the new life direction has lead to the reinvoration of both me and this site. That is clear with the blog counts for December being at the highest level since the ... Chilli Update
2007-12-17 02:03:00 Yesterday both Socko and my Mum mentioned there was a baby chilli forming on the “mystery” chilli. On closer inspection today I counted 5 chillis at various stages of development, none a ready to harvest. At this stage they appear to be a slender green variety. I also noted a good dozen ... More Additions
2007-12-15 12:45:00 Today I officially ended my attempt to grow mushrooms. The attempt was a complete failure that was due largely to the infrequent attention I paid them. The soil was damp and kept in a dark place, but was certainly going nowhere. I thus decided to add the rich peat moss mix to ... More About: Gardening , Herb
Worm Farm
2007-12-14 05:00:00 Some months ago we decided that we would like to begin worm farming as a means to remove much of the vegetable waste that we are generating through being humans. We have decided that simply throw it in the bin to go to the local land fill we will feed the worms and produce ... More About: Gardening , Worm , Farm
The Cat Infestation
2007-12-14 04:00:00 The last couple of days are quickly becoming the straws that break the camels backs. It all began yesterday morning at 6:30am when I was awoken by Socko in tears. As she drove off to work she saw one of the neighbours kittens laying prostrate on the road, it was clearly deceased. ... More About: Gardening , Festa
Last Day of Work
2007-12-13 23:19:00 Woohoo, it is my last day of work for the year. For the first time in my working life I have managed to score time off at Christmas. I am off until the 2nd January 2008 and intend doing as little as possible. That of course does not mean I will be ... More About: General , Work
More Garden Enjoyment to be had
2007-12-12 15:02:00 On Wednesday evening I walked in the door around 8pm after a long day at work in Surry Hills. I was met at the verge by my beloved and quickly whisked inside to see what had been procured on the last of the Christmas shopping. Once inside I saw a Heineken 5L keg ... Cats, not a Musical
2007-12-12 10:00:00 Well the scourge of the Cats continues. They are reaching plague proportions with another pregnant “skank” (next doors constantly pregnant females) sighted in the last 2 days. On Sunday (9th December) I e-mailed the RSPCA requesting advice on how to humanely to deter the feline pests from my yard. They are still ... More About: Musical , Gardening
The Birds of Paradise
More articles from this author:2007-12-12 00:00:00 Everyone is familiar with the standard Bird of Paradise (Strelezia reginae), that I will refer to as the Orange Bird from here on, which has a unique bird shaped flower (pictured above) that is brilliant orange and deep purple. With it’s appealing tropical appearance the plant has become a very common plant in many ... More About: Birds 1, 2, 3 |
