Even Dogs In The Wild...

Yesterday afternoon we whiled away a few hours on the Isle of Dogs , heading along the river from Mudchute to West India Quay. Along the way we encountered many of the interesting sculptures and installations that seem to appear about every 100 yards on the island, and which have been springing up for about the last 20 years. Riverside Repast

Well, yesterday evening I finally had a meal at my friend Rob's restaurant on Mortlake High St, near Barnes Bridge, The Depot Waterfront Brasserie. It's a fantastic venue, really chic inside, very imposing outside and it has tables at one side of the restaurant that almost sit "over" the Thames. You can even see the finishing post for the Oxford-Cambridge boat race from your seat... not sure

If you get off the DLR at Gallion's Reach there's a strange sight looking from the end of the westbound platform. It's a substantial roadbridge which just ends in thin air. This week has seen two releases from the BBC Friday Night Comedy podcast people - there's an edition of the "News Quiz" from Sandi Toksvig and team, and a special awards ceremony edition of Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis's "Now Show". The "Eyes" Have It

Here are some photos taken on Boxing Day of Julie Mathias and Wolfgang Kaeppner's art installation in Jubilee Park, Canary Wharf. It consists of 100 sets of animal eyes set around and about the park. Here's a photograph that I took yesterday as thick fog blanketed the valley that sits below Dudley to the west. The large "islands" you see emerging from the fog in the far distance are the Malverns, which are 1395 feet at their highest point. I was down in South Molton Street this evening, exchanging gifts with a friend and having a chat over a coffee. I can't afford to shop in the little boutiques down there, but they obviously clear enough profit to put on an amazing christmas light show. Today I went to a wonderful Turk ish Restaurant in Victoria, Kazan, with colleagues from my old team at work. Smoke - A London Peculiar

Fantastic - I've just subscribed to Smoke magazine and the first issue just turned up - it's number 11. A nice pocket-sized A5, it's a glossy little number and has a lovely series of articles and essays accompanied by some great photography. Millwall Docks

OK I'm cheating, the photos referenced here I took last week, but I do find myself around the periphery of Millwall Docks pretty often these days (you know who you are x ) Sometimes (although unfortunately not in the particular images I took on this rather stormy Sunday a little earlier this month) the vast expanse of water is as still as a millpond, so the towers of Canary Wharf appear doubled.
