Solving the world’s problems through SPAM!
2008-02-12 05:45:00
I opened my first Yahoo.com email account back in 1997. I used that account daily for over 10 years! Needless to say, I got TONS of SPAM, sometimes 1,000+ per day. Occasionally I would look through them to see if anything interesting or useful accidentally made it in there. I rarely found anything worth rescuing, but I was amazed at the topics that someone expected me to be dumb enough to follow through on. I don’t get nearly as many these days with my new Yahoo account, or with Google, for that matter. I was looking through the spam folders to see if there was anything worth rescuing and I noticed a theme. Come, let me share it with you. The most prevalent pitch is for erectile dysfunction medications. For the record, I do not have a problem there… yet. Some of them come right out and tell me that I can get a “supply of Viagra for pennies a day”. Others are a bit more sneaky, “Order v1@gra or C1@1i$ for pennies a day”. I’m not sure who t...

Weight Warriors - Week 1
2008-02-12 01:41:00
Just for a little clarification, I am posting results for 3 fitness/weightloss programs that I am following. Weight Watchers - Tuesday nights Total Transformation - Sundays Weight Warriors - Monday So if you see differing numbers, it is only because I am using the numbers from a specific scale in each circumstance. Consistency, people! That will get you through any challenge. Just like the tortoise… slow and steady wins the race! When I entered this challenge, the #1 thing I needed was a swift kick in the pants. So far, it has been. My Personal Trainer is great; she’s challenging, she’s encouraging and best of all she is good at pushing me hard enough to make me sore the next day, but not too much. One of the things that you read in some of the good fitness magazines is that if you go out and kill yourself in the gym, the chances of being successful is slim. All those people you saw at the gym the first 2 weeks of the year… they jumped in too hard and it...

Total Transformation Challenge - Week 5
2008-02-11 00:15:00
Back on January 6th three other bloggers and myself entered into an 8-week ‘friendly competition’, the winner of which would get cold, hard cash from the non-winners’. I’m not sure how my competitors are doing, John (the other one) has been very sick lately and that may end up being to his advantage (cheater… lol). As ...

Happy New Year? 4705!
2008-02-09 06:07:00
Yesterday was New Year s Day on the Lunar Calendar, also known as Chinese New Year . Chronologically, it is the Lunar Year 4705 (no idea how they get that number), and so we begin the Year of the Rat. Seems appropriate, as this is an election year. Much like the more familiar Astrological signs that we read ...

A childs? view of Groundhog Day
2008-02-07 22:23:00
Last Saturday was Groundhog Day. A day that a great many people get all bunched up over what a rodent has to say about the direction of thier lives. Groundhog Day just happens to be the name of my #2 favorite Bill Murray movie (What About Bob? is #1….. It’s death therapy, Bob! Works every time!) So, ...

Mitt Quits… Story on CNN.com  Just one less weasel to choose from. Funny, even in quitting he’s a weasel. He has only suspended his campaign. That means he keeps his delegates so he can muck up the convention this summer. It’s going to be Must See TV, watching the Republicans self-destruct. ...

Weigh-In: Week 55
2008-02-06 07:05:00
I believe that I mentioned Sunday that I have high hopes for my involvement in the Weigh t Warriors Challenge. I haven’t exactly put my finger on the problem, but I have been stuck in the mud since around Thanksgiving. From Dec. 22, 2006 to Thanksgiving 2007, I lost 72 lbs. From Thanksgiving to today… I ...

The Green Monster isn?t only at Fenway
2008-02-05 18:07:00
I am so envious today. It’s Super Tuesday, and as an Oregonian, I am sitting in the bleachers. An inconsequential part of the electoral process. Our Legislature tried to move us up to February 5th, but their spinelessness bowed to the pressure of the parties. So my whisper won’t be heard until May 20th. Whoopee! I am ...

A few weeks back the owner/manager of my gym, The Roundup Athletic Club, told me about this challenge between folks from the gym and staffers at the local paper, the East Oregonian. The challenge will last for 12-weeks (Feb. 4 - Apr. 28) with weekly personal trainer time and a ‘micro-fit’ (a computerized evaluation of your ...

What is it about snow and cold that people find so delightful? So much so that they will pay LOTS of money for ski equipment or travel to Park City and Whistler? Why were Gov. Huckabee and Rep. Paul even asked to be at the GOP debate last night? Anderson Cooper only asked Sen. McCain and Gov. ...

Another stolen blog idea?
2008-01-30 20:17:00
A couple of blog-friends (Rick & Los) have begun a “You Ask - I’ll Answer” deal on their respective blogs. Since there is nothing new under the sun, I thought I would give it a shot. So, for the legions that surf past here, take a moment to ask me a question, ask several if you ...

Living Large on the National Credit Card
2008-01-26 18:59:00
I hope that I am joining millions of my fellow Americans in looking at GWB’s ‘economic stimulus package’ with skepticism. If you aren’t, you should be. It’s an election year stunt that won’t come home to roost until ol’ W is back on the ranch. The Fed Chair, Ben Bernanke testified before Congress this week that ...

Standing in line to meet Pastor King

In listening to Sen. Obama’s speech yesterday at Ebeneezer Baptist Church. Pastor King must’ve been so proud. Several years ...
