Of Hawks and hopeful Brampton sunny days!
2008-04-15 16:37:00
At long last it's bright and sunny and warm in Brampton !Finally... I was beginning to think that we'd be getting snow until May!Sorry I haven't been posting lately. Frankly, my new found 'freedom' from joblessness has been getting me down. But this month I have new hopes on the horizon and new fish to fry so feeling a bit chirpier. (forgive the cross-metaphors - it's just my brain defrosting). Why so hopeful, you might ask?I think it started with a visit I had the other day from a hawk.I was curled up in my favourite chair (aka 'the comfy chair') when I happened to glance up at the window over looking my back yard and there he was sitting on my deck railing. It took me a few seconds to get my bearings. Then I realized what that it was a hawk!I'd never seen one that close up before. What a big, freaking bird! And how extremely beautiful and elegant. Of course, my next thought is to reach for the digital camera and capture the image to post here but as soon as I moved, ...

Trinity Common Mall - what a mess!
2008-02-19 01:24:00
So this weekend my friend and I decided to do dinner and movie. After a relatively uneventful dinner at Kelsey's (I had steak and he had salmon), we made our way over to the Silvercity in Trinity Common s to see Jumper. WHAT A CRAZY PLACE THAT IS!!!This mall seems to have been designed by someone who had a need to utilize excess stops signs from their inventory. Every two feet there is a 4-way stop. Of course, at the best of times 4-way stops are improperly used by drivers but in the context of a 'closed' environment like a mall, drivers seem to completely lose their minds. To add to the entertainment, imagine mounds of snow, pedestrians crossing out suddenly from behind them, poorly plowed parking lots and several buses sharing the road with us all. So much for a relaxing night out - anyone know where I can find a good spa in Brampton?P.S. skip Jumper - rent the DVD and save some money

Painting Pottery in Brampton
2008-02-12 22:22:00
I have to reveal a secret to you. I am a closet crafter. I never make anything that is particularly useful or of great beauty but ever so often I have the urge to be creative and work with my hands. So I paint or grab the glue gun and fashion a bauble or two.Imagine my glee to discover a place right here in Brampton where I could get my creative fix and not have to deal with the hassle of clean up afterwards. It's called the Pottery Painting Place , located at 2021 Williams Parkway East (at Airport Rd.) Take a look at my 'glorious' creation in the photo above . The mug was purchased from among their large selection of decorative and functional pottery. Then you just need to decide on the colour or colours for your masterpiece. I chose a subtle pallette for my mug but the choices are endless really. The folks at PPP provide you with everything you need - paints, brushes, instructions on how to make the colours work, nice wooden craft tables that . There's even photos of samples so...
Snowed in!
2008-02-11 17:04:00
Yikes! The temperature today in Brampton is ...wait for it.. minus 15! Snow from the big storm a few days ago is still piled high - see photo. And I'm firmly into hibernationation mode. Now, you have to understand - I'm a Bajan gal. No matter how many years I've lived in Canada (its 20 this year but who's counting) I'll never really get used to the snow, the ice and the ccccold.Case in point - ventured out to dinner at the Bombay Palace with a friend on Friday night. All went fine until I tried to get back into my driveway. Got stuck. No moving forward or back. Spinning wheels, the tail end of my Santa Fe sticking out into the road. As a single woman, this type of situation will often send me into a panic. Nothing worse that feeling like a damsel in distress - I should be self-sufficient, I should be independent, I should be able to handle this stuff on my own.. right?WRONG! Had to call my friend - male friend - to rescue me. Not that he did anything I couldn't have done - got ...
