Sugary sweet
2008-03-03 15:46:00 I seem to have this recurring problem with my brown sugar hardening before I have a chance to use all of it up. I then end up spending several minutes trying to scrape a tiny bit of the sugar off of the rock, and nine times out of ten will cut a hole in the plastic bag as opposed to accomplishing anything.Saturday morning I went to get some brown sugar for my oatmeal and discovered I had, yet another, hardened block of sugar. I'd had enough and desperately wanted something to add to my morning bowl of oatmeal. I turned to my most reliable resource: the internet. I quickly Googled "soften brown sugar" and 200,000+ results were returned in just .30 seconds. And, it was then, that my kitchen turned into a mini science experiment.Step 1: I removed the block of sugar from the plastic bag and carefully placed it into a bowl. Step 2: I dampened 2 paper towels and covered the bowl. Step 3: Next, I took a piece of saran wrap and wrapped up the bowl and placed it into the microwave. S... More About: Sweet
Words of a Golden Retriever: "I'm Free! I'm Free"
2008-03-01 19:21:00 This is what Tungsten was yelling when he made his first real jail break Wednesday afternoon. Brad stopped by the house for a late lunch and, while he was upstairs brushing his teeth, Mr. Sneaky managed to find a door that had blown open. It was then that he made his big escape, and all without Brad knowing about it.Just as he was getting ready to go back to work, he stepped out on the deck to call for Tungsten, and discovered he was missing. After a couple minutes of searching, he discovered the wide-open door, and instantly realized that the dog was gone.Brad jumped in his car and decided to drive the route that I walk him on every evening, hoping that he would have a golden spotting, but no luck. He continued on, driving down a busier road that runs parallel to the street we normally take, but still no dice. As a last resort, he decided to pull into the neighborhood that backs up to our house. As he rounded the corner, he saw this maniac dog running 95 miles per hour through ... Oh to be retiring...
2008-02-29 20:09:00 Last night I attended a going away party for a co-worker who is retiring in a couple weeks. She has worked with us for 6 years, and has decided it is finally time to retire from the workforce all together. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting there last night watching her surrounded by her family, and all of us from work, just basking in the glory of knowing that the countdown is officially on.At the end of a night filled with great food, wine, dessert, and a video dedicated to her, Bonnie was presented with an amazing gift from our owners: her choice of a trip to either London or Paris! I will never forget the look on her face as the reality of a dream started to set in. Absolutely priceless.I asked her this morning if she had decided which trip she will be choosing. She said, "London and Paris". I looked at her with a curious look and she said that before last night, she thought her Europe travels were finished, but now that an opportunity has come up, she is going to do it all. Sh...
"The Last Lecture"
More articles from this author:2008-02-27 16:32:00 I am surprised it has taken this long for Randy Pausch's appearance on an October '07 episode of Oprah to circulate; regardless I am happy that it finally made it's way to me. Randy Pausch was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University. In September '06, he was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer, and after several rounds of surgery, chemo and radiation, he was told in August '07 that he only had a few months to live.He said "goodbye" to his 400+ students one day by giving his last lecture entitled "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams". Below is a clip of him reprising his lecture on the Oprah Winfrey Show. 1, 2 |
