UK's shoppers are still spending but do it online
2008-06-04 07:21:00 UK consumers defied the credit crunch to spend a record amount online with retailers last year, Verdict Research has revealed. Bricks-and-clicks retailers delivered soaring online sales up by 35 per cent to £14.7bn in 2007 – a rate of growth almost 10 times higher than that of the total retail market. Verdict said the convenience of the internet continues to be the main driver of sales, but improved retail websites and increased broadband penetration also fuelled the boom. Verdict's senior retail analyst Malcolm Pinkerton said the fact that consumers have less disposable income to spend was boosting retail online sales, as consumers seek out bargains and use price-comparison websites. "Disposable incomes are being squeezed and what is drawing people online is the perception that the internet is cheaper and that they can shop around to get bargains and lower prices. Broadband is also cheaper and it has broadened the spectrum of people who can shop online." However, Mr Pinkerton s... More About: Online , Spending , Shoppers

2008-05-08 13:27:00 Today the UK,s fastest growing online shopping site released its figures for attempted fraud on its site, and it is quite a shock most of us think of most fraud coming from countries in Africa or Asia, but their figures show that a huge 93% of attempted fraud comes from the United States of America, they in fact report that a shocking 1 out of 3 attempted transactions from the USA are in fact fraud attempts. The company have in the past blocked buyers from some of the countries normally associated with fraud, but removed all blocks for a one year trial. As a result of the one year trail all the countries that we all associate with fraud will still be free to shop with them, but transactions will be closely monitored. But have decided to no longer except orders from the USA.ATTEMPTED ONLINE FRAUD BY COUNTRY.1) USA 93%2) Singapore 3%3) Germany 2%4) Rest of world 2% More About: Internet , Card , Credit , Fraud , Released
Microsoft Abandons bid to wreck Yahoo
2008-05-04 03:40:00 Microsoft Corp. walked away from its bid for Yahoo ! Inc. after failing to agree on a price, a setback to the software maker's efforts to catch Google Inc. in the online advertising market. What is laughable here is it is Microsoft's attempt to catch up to Google in the search engine wars.OK I am going to give Microsoft a bit of advice, if you want to catch them the first thing you have to do is make a search engine that works, Microsoft's Live is laughable and any webmaster will tell you it does not work and is a waist of time and money spending time trying to get a high place on Live seach. Just look at Lives webmaster forum it is full of webmasters complaining that it does not index their the way it should. So Microsoft save your money, don't spend it taking over another search engine which I am sure within 5 years you would make as crap as yours, spend it fixing yours if you can't do it yourselves there is a couple of companies at the moment with experimental search engines ... Peterborough named UK's second greenest place
2008-04-12 15:51:00 THE city's environmental credentials received a major boost today after Peterborough was named as the second greenest place in the UK.The award ? acknowledging the array of green businesses, recycling centres and conservation groups in the city ? comes as Peterborough is striving to become the nation's environment capital.Although the city was pipped to the top spot by Norwich, the survey's organiser ? local information website locallife.co.uk ? said that Peterborough was fast "gaining ground" on its neighbour. It is thought that Peterborough, which has been an Environment City since 1993, missed out on first place because, unlike Norwich, it does not boast any Green Party councillors. That could change after the May 1 elections, with a record nine Green candidates bidding for seats on Peterborough City Council.Today, city council leader Cllr John Peach said: "I am delighted with second place, but next year we are determined to be first. It confirms our aspiration to be the UK's e... More About: Place
The Body Shop 'Gets Lippy' about HIV and AIDS
2008-04-12 15:48:00 A new study of 16-24 year olds by MTV and The Body Shop as part of the Get Lippy campaign for safe sex reveals a shocking 'aware but don't care' attitude to sex and protection.HIV and AIDs were top of the list of worries about sex, yet 63% of young people admitted to having had unprotected sex, 33% with two or more partners. Only 15% of women said they carried condoms, and more than half would bed their date on or before the third date (the third date being now more commonly known as 'the sex date').The Get Lippy campaign, supported by Estelle and Annie Lennox, aims to educate young people into being more responsible about sex. It will raise funds for the Staying Alive Foundation to finance HIV and AIDS educational projects through the sale of a limited edition Guarana Lip Butter, out now at the Body Shop More About: The Body , The Body Shop , Aids

Preview: Aus v EnglandAs if a quarter-final clash between two great sporting rivals wasn't enticing enough, elements from both England and Australia have conspired to add some extra spice to Saturday's encounter in Marseille. It was John O'Neill, the chief executive of the Australian Rugby Union, who, quite apropos of nothing, got the tub-thumping underway before the date between the Wallabies and the World Cup holders had even been confirmed. A man of authority professing his hatred of England is mana from heaven for the headline writers, and the unsightly snowball just rolled off from there. Any hint of attempted humour in O'Neill's comment was erased by the printed word, but in the spirit of sport, we'll assume he was just posturing as the lovable larrikin. MEN'S NATIONAL TROPHY - POOL ONE PREVIEW
2007-10-05 14:48:00 There?s a full weekend of action in the National Trophy Pool One over the weekend. Only one of the four games is between sides who both competed in Division One last season, with holders Reading Rockets traveling to West Herts Warriors.Rockets coach, Dave Titmuss (right) is very complimentary about the Warriors:"I'm a big fan of what West Herts are doing in terms of their club development and the building of their 'shop window' senior men's team. They are a credit to English basketball and I'm particularly impressed with the leadership shown at the club by Tony Harrison and Neil McElduff."In terms of Saturday's game, it's obviously very early but I know that the Warriors have put together an extremely competitive squad that on paper might be a little stronger than last year's team, which I thought produced some next-level performances and would have done even better had they been able to maintain a settled, injury-free team."Overall we can't match their individual athletic...
