Online Payment Processors
2008-04-27 05:42:00
What online payment processor are you using? Let me guess. Since most of my readers are bloggers too and earning extra on paid blogging, the likely payment processor you use is Paypal. Right.I dabbled in online marketing before I stumbled into the joy of blogging. I was into almost all conceivable racket known to internet marketing. Sadly, all ventures failed. But that's another story. When I started in online-money-making schemes, the only payment processor available for me was Stormpay. Paypal only became accessible in the Philippines in the last year or so. Stormpay was credible until it had a run-in with a very popular paid surf site know as 12DP or 12 DaiyProfit. Stormpay refused to pay the members of 12 DP claiming that the surfsite is illegal. Illegal or not, I think Stormpay blew the large amount of money deposited by 12 DP. I lost $290.I also used E-gold. This payment processor values your money in gold. I really have no problem with this processor until September 2006. I w...

Cold Remedies
2008-04-25 12:53:00
I am highly irritable today because of my worsening cold. I tried to just relax in my bedroom with the air conditioner on high. Bad idea. The cool dry air made my nose clogged up that eventually brought a bout of coughing. The 18 degree Celsius temperature made me shiver too.I turned off the air conditioner. It was okay for a while but after an hour, the cool temperature turned into warm then hot. The hot airless room made me sweat. I turned on the electric fan.Worst decision ever. The warm air coming from the electric fan dried my sweat making me cough more and my nose run. I finally called my daughter. What do I take to cure my cold? Do you have fever? No!Does your throat hurt when you swallow? No!Do you have coughs and a runny nose?Yup! and muscle aches too and my taste buds conked out one me.Oh it might be that you just have the common cold mom and there's no medicine for that. I'll just give you something for your runny nose and coughs.I bought the medicines. Took them togethe...

Ignoramus Irked !
2008-04-25 02:05:00
The extremely hot weather finally caught up on me. I have a cold: clogged nose, itchy throat, watery eyes, congested chest, irritating cough, hot-cold sensation and a splitting headache. So what am I doing blogging? Sick or not, life goes on. I just had to check my e-mail for I've been expecting one from my brother. In the course of my checking, I saw an anonymously written comment on my Black Suede post. He/She/It said that I am ignorant. Let me clarify that anonymous #2 called me ignorant because I wrote that the highly publicized rectal surgical procedure was interesting. Umm... that set me thinking. (If you can actually declare my brain to be capable of the task). Just what does ignorant means?According to my favorite online dictionary, ignorant means:1. lacking in knowledge or training. True, I am not a doctor but do I need to be one for me to say that the surgical procedure was interesting?2. lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact. I did not re...
Guiltless Fast Food
2008-04-24 11:11:00
Remember the food group taught in elementary school? There are six food groups according to the USDA Food Guide Pyramid. They are grains, vegetables, fruits, fats and oil, milk, and protein (meat, fish, egg, beans). There is a new food group. Fast Food ! These types of food, for the past 40 years or so, have been effectively and consistently integrated to our daily food intake. Because of fast food: we can eat at a drop of a hat anytime, anywhere. Because of fast food, we are fat.We cannot totally avoid fast food restaurants. However, we can be smart in eating fast food. There are actually tricks on how to eliminate a few calories from fast food. Here are some tips.Choose egg mcmuffin instead of sausage for it's about 100 calories less. Scrape away the mayo from sandwiches. Order plain rice instead of fried for breakfast meals. Stop lathering your pancakes with butter and syrup. Using only two tablespoon of syrup translate to 200 calories less. Do not eat the crunchy-tasty-crisp...
Carly Smithson Says 'Bye
2008-04-24 09:50:00
I got it wrong! Jason and Brooke are still on! Carly was mistakenly voted out! America, you voted incorrectly.I just can't believe that Carly's powerful rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar did not convince the American public. Jason, I assume, got votes because of the way he looks- cute to the max! Brooke, I think, got sympathy votes. Carly, even with her powerful voice, did not exude enough magnetism to sail through the competition.Worry not, Carly. You have a real talent in singing and I just hope that scouts and agents are lurking by your door now. More power to you!I wonder how Jason and Brooke felt when they were voted safe? Did Jason say OMG, I fooled them again! Have to add more highlights to my super-duper long crop.Is Brooke planning on winning the competition by continuously projecting a pitiful image every time her performance is lambasted by the judges?I wonder what Andrew is thinking now.

Webber in American Idol
2008-04-23 19:05:00
It's 1:06 a.m. and I just finished watching American Idol 7. There are only six contestants left: Jason Castro, David Cook, David Archuleta, Brooke White, Syesha Mercado and Carly Smithson. The week's theme songs are those composed by the brilliant British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. My first encounter with Webber was in the 70's when his musical Jesus Christ Superstar was premiered and became a hit. The compositions of Webber are not easy to sing because of the great voice range called for.Tonight, the brilliant performers were Syesha, the two Davids and Carly. I would say it is goodbye to either Jason or Brooke this week. Jason sang Memory from Cats. Hearing his interpretation made me cringe. Heck! I think it even made Jason cringe! Brooke, her voice strained and unsuitable, forgot the lyrics of You Must Love Me from Evita. Now we wait.

Block that Sun
2008-04-23 11:18:00
The temperature today reached 37 degrees Celsius. That is roughly equivalent to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. That is hot! hot!hot!I am now sunburned. No, I have not been to the beach yet. I really do not like the beach, as a matter of fact. I try to keep freckles and melasma off my face that is why I stay away from the sun. I really take precautions.I slather sunblock on my face before I leave the house. My sunblock claims to block UVA and UVB rays. I use an umbrella while walking under the intense heat of the Philippine sun. I re-apply sunscreen as needed. Still, I see myself getting progressively sunburned. The heck with sunblocks having an SPF of 45. If I normally get sunburned in 10 minutes then using a sunscreen with an SPF pf 45 would mean I am safe from burning in a time span of 450 minutes or 7 hours and 50 minutes. Umm. Not true at all. You see, I just found out that conventional sunscreen with a high SPF does block UVA rays effectively.Even some products labeled "broad-spect...

Earth Day
2008-04-22 11:54:00
Today is Earth Day. If we continue to abuse our planet, the planet's demise together with its inhabitants (that's us!) is not far behind. It has become a universal concern to protect the environment. Global changes in climate are happening;the sea level is changing; air and water are getting more polluted. There is scarcity of food. We should be aware of all these. We have the future of our children and our children's children to consider. What can we do to help? Here are some real-easy-to-follow green tips for you.1. Remember the 3 Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle2. Conserve water. Cutting short your shower time may be your contribution to saving the earth. Water the plants early in the morning.3. Drive slowly. Do not accelerate and brake aggressively as these lower your mileage.4. Unplug electrical appliances such as television, DVD players, chargers, computers when not in use. Turn off lights that are not needed.5. If you can, turn off your car engine when caught in traffic. Do ...

Traffic at EDSA
2008-04-22 10:59:00
Traffic along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, EDSA for you, is getting worse. I just can't figure out why? Why? The pace of driving has slowed to a crawl. It is so tiring and irritating to drive any segment of the 42 kilometer highway. Some weeks ago, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has implemented strict compliance of public bus transportation companies regarding their route lines. Colorum (illegal) lines were apprehended and a lot of buses were taken off EDSA. Traffic actually became lighter. The average travel speed at EDSA improved from 22 kph up to 65 kph which, according to MMDA report, resulted to more road accidents that lead to even greater congestion. The MMDA also said that the unbearably hot-humid-summer causes a lot of cars to overheat leading to stalled vehicles along the length of EDSA therefore causing unmitigated traffic.Ummm.. can I therefore safely conclude that traffic at EDSA is caused by the banning of colorum buses and the unbelievable...

Tips to Lose Weight
2008-04-21 12:25:00
Are you a perpetual dieter? By perpetual I mean are you always dieting, wanting to lose a few pounds to look good in a swim suit? It's summer once again and it is time to take a good look at the extra pounds we've accumulated last Christmas ( ten years ago!). Anyway I will share some real easy tips on how to lose weight or keep your ideal weight.First do not deprive yourself of 7-8 hours of sleep. Sleeping releases serotonin and dopamine, the two feel-good brain chemicals. If you are sleep-deprived your body will crave for the feel-good chemicals and there's an easy way to do that. NO! not drugs, sweets! Notice how you feel like stuffing yourself with sugary food once you lack sleep.Next, do something. I do not mean run the block or go up and down the stairs for the sake of moving. I mean keep your brain and hands occupied. Surfing the net or blogging or playing computer games is actually better than you watching TV. If you do cross-stitch or you knit, hey these are two more ways ...

Post- Black Suede Post
2008-04-21 12:07:00
A couple of things has been nagging me since I read the story behind the Vicente Sotto Hospital Scandal aka Black Suede Scandal aka JanJan Issue.First, is the Vicente Sotto in the hospital's name a relative of Vic Sotto? I am quite sure that somehow these two namesakes are related. Second, the gay guy got wind of the video through a friendly tip by one of his neighbors. I watched the video and the patient's face was never shown. How did the neighbor know that it was gay guy's rectum that was being operated on and shown on the net?The gay guy knew that his surgery was videotaped and he did not demand to get the original copy . Does this mean that videotaping his procedure had his consent? Fourth, were they finally able to pinpoint who published the video on the net? I read somewhere that a nursing intern was the culprit. If this was so, the only issue regarding the medical staff would have been their joking and laughing at the patients' predicament while they were doing the surge...

Vicente Sotto Hospital Scandal
2008-04-20 16:14:00
Have you heard about the Vicente Sotto Hospital Scandal or what is notoriously labeled the Black Suede Scandal? Here it is in a nutshell.Apparently a gay guy met a stranger on Dec. 31, 2007 in his hometown of Cebu city. One thing led to another and they ended up having, well, sex. Our gay guy said that he was so drunk that after the first round of sex he remembered telling the stranger to please not do anything kinky when the stranger asked him if he can, well, use a foreign object for their sex play. That being said the gay guy said he fell asleep. In the morning, he found that the stranger has left. He looked around the room and found that one of his cologne canisters (Black Suede) was missing. Umm... that was pretty quick and alert of him considering his apparent state of drunkenness the previous night. Anyway the gay guy got up to pee and found it hard to. He suspected foul play and with his mother (I think), consulted a doctor. It was found that a cylindrical object was shoved...
Transient Thought
2008-04-20 03:16:00
It is a lazy Sunday. I slept late or shall I say early morning, because I waited for my son to get home from a party. I still feel sleepy but I just have to open my e-mail, browse on my blog and other stuff before I go home to Taytay. I just have to go visit my cousin, the one who was hospitalized a few weeks back. I have been informed that her disease is progressive.I just feel so sad. I guess there's nothing left to do but follow the doctor's recommended therapies, and pray unceasingly for God's mercy. Being human, I sometimes cannot help but question the fairness of life. My cousin is single and lives alone with her two German shepherds. She is active in church and is a sponsor to many financially-stressed students. Why did she have to get sick? She is doing a lot of good for God's glory and the community. However, this thought is transient. I know that God has plans for each and everyone of us. IN times of trouble and doubt I an comforted by Romans 8:28: And we know that i...

A Matter of Perspective
2008-04-19 15:02:00
As we were eating dinner, I nonchalantly asked daughter # 4 her grades for the last tri-mester. She was in school to get her classcards.Oh, I got an average of 3.9 mom (4.00 being the highest). She made the first honors list again. Considering her double-degree course, thesis #1 that she submitted, thesis #2 that is in the drawing board, her extra-curricular activities and her regular load in school, I would say that was quite a feat.As we were laughing and being happy with #4's academic honors, son came in ready to sit down for dinner too.Son: So why is everybody laughing?Me:There's really nothing to laugh about.#3: We're just sort of giggly because sister here has a GPA of 3.9.Me: That is almost 4.00!#2: Almost perfect!Son: Big deal. I got a 4.00 in Math 17.Note: Philippine universities vary in their grading systems. Most have a grading system of 1 to 5 with 1 as the highest, 5 as fail and 4 as conditional. A grade of four requires the student to retake the final exams. Some h...

Identifying Stroke
2008-04-19 11:19:00
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours of the occurrence. That is hard as not anyone can recognize the signs of a stroke. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke .Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking the person suspected of having a stroke to do three simple tasks. S * Ask the individual to SMILE. The person should be able to smile. Ask the person to stick out his tongue. If the tongue is crooked or favors a side, that is not good. T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE coherently (i.e. It is sunny today). If this cannot be done or speech is garbled, then something is wrong. R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. Th...

Liver Vitality
2008-04-19 09:09:00
Yesterday's post was about the damaging effects on the brain of some habits that we have. Today's organ of focus is the liver. The liver is the largest organ and gland in the human body. What are the major functions of the liver? The primary functions of the liver are: Bile production and excretion Excretion of bilirubin, cholesterol, hormones, and drugs Metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates Enzyme activation Storage of glycogen, vitamins, and minerals Synthesis of plasma proteins, such as albumin, and clotting factors Blood detoxification and purificationDamage to the liver would definitely jeopardize our health. Who's gonna metabolize my fat? Who's gonna activate my enzyme? wails the brain. To take good care of the liver, the following are suggested.1. Do not sleep late than compensate by waking up late.2. Make sure you urinate in the morning after getting out of bed.3. Do not overeat.4. Do not skip breakfast.5. Do not take unnecess...

Brain Drain!
2008-04-18 15:21:00
I came across this interesting article regarding habits that may damage your brain: the seat of your intelligence: the command center of your being.1. Not Eating Breakfast: Okay. Guilty! People who skip breakfast have lower blood sugar lever that leads to insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain which may cause brain degeneration.2. Too Much Eating: Okay. Guilty! Overeating causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.3. Smoking: Not Guilty for the past 6 months (woohoo!!). Smoking causes brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer's disease. Umm.... that's why names escape me!4. High Sugar Consumption: Not guilty. Too much sugar interrupts the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.5. Air Pollution: We're all victims here. The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air may decrease the supply of oxygen translating into decreased efficiency.6. Sleep Depriva...

My Secret
2008-04-18 10:20:00
If I were to recount all the trials that life brought me, you might not believe it. If I tell you, as I seem to happily blog everyday, that I am full of problems, you might not believe me too.But I do have problems. My life is not easy. I sometimes have sleepless nights thinking of ways and means to my problems. Nevertheless, it is seldom that you'll see me defeated. Somehow I still find the inspiration to bounce back. Why? I have a secret that is not a secret, actually. We serve a great and mighty God. He can make a way when there seems to be no way! He was able to create the world out of nothing! How easy would it be for Him to breathe a whiff of sunlight to our sometimes dark lives. He is my secret. There is power in your words, in your prayers. Have faith and expectancy. Let your life be filled with peace that passes all understanding. God loves you and me!

Goodbye Kristy Lee Cook
2008-04-17 10:01:00
Yup! Kristy Lee Cook is out of the American Idol picture. It was a Mariah Carey week for the AI-7 top eight. Kristy sang Anyway, a song totally alien to me. Kristy did alright, even Simon said so. I thought Brooke White would be the one voted out as she totally failed to deliver last night. She sped-up the tempo of her song Hero bar per bar.Carly Smithson also did not do so great with her son Ken Lee, oooopppss! I mean Can't Live or better yet, Without You. David sang When You Believe. He sang it with so much conviction and the timbre of his voice was perfect for the song. Syesha sang Vanishing another unheard-of song for me. It was technically good but there's no "it" in the way she sang. Jason, once again, cute-sied his way into the night. Voice-quality-wise, Jason has none. He continues to remain in AI-7 because he is so appealing. The star of the night was David Cook. His interpretation of Always Be My Baby borders on genius!I predict ( as if!) that it will be a final batt...
