2007-08-07: Analysis of Stock Scan Result s of 2007-08-06 MACD Bullish Scan By the way, the result of MACD Bullish Scan, provided 2007-08-03, Friday, is doing pretty good, too: Breakouts Scan Long Market Outperformers Scan 2 Weeks Average Volume Increase Scan (3 groups) POTENTIAL Rocket Scan . As we can see, the resulted returned by this particular scan, did not produce any rocket next day. It’s expected behavior, and you cannot rely on this type of scan. Also, pay attention to the “POTENTIAL” in the name, indicating the realatively low probability of getting rocket. But it works in 30% of cases. We could see more statistics in the future. The most interesting scan and results are always on the very top of the page.

2007-08-06: Analysis of Stock Scan Results of 2007-08-03
2007-08-07 00:45:00
Market was doing pretty good today. My scanners’ forecast came up during gloom-n-doom market of the end of the previous week, 2007-08-03. So, the results could be skewed to the better side. In Friday, my MACD Bullish scan found ONLY ONE stock, LUK (Leucadia). Today is Monday, and the stock gained the healthy 4.79%: . If you were able to catch the very bottom ($39.10), it’s $2.29 return per each purchased stock in one day. You can argue that it’s difficult to catch the very bottom, without any hindsight. True. But let’s check the intraday chart: Even if somebody slept for 3 hours this day, still, s/he was able to grab this stock at least for $39.50. This price was available for 3.5 hours. You didn’t need to use any trailing stops to lock yourself in profit and sell for at least $41.25. And with traling stop, 10 cents more, $41.35 that leaves us with $1.75 gain mininum per each purchased stock. Or $1.85 gain per each stock if traling stops used. If you...

Bloomberg: No Banking Crisis
2007-08-06 17:08:00
From http://www.bloomberg.com: No “Banking Crisis ” “We don’t have a banking crisis, and the economic data remains mixed,” said T.J. Marta, a fixed-income strategist at RBC Capital Markets in New York, the investment-banking arm of Canada’s biggest lender. “There’s a failure to communicate between the Fed and the bond market.” The November fed funds contract shows a 100 percent probability the central bank will cut its target rate to 5 percent by its Oct. 31 meeting, compared with 14 percent odds on July 23. Merrill Lynch & Co. pushed up its forecast for the Fed to cut interest rates to October as the turmoil in the credit markets and falling home prices slow U.S. economic growth. In June, Merrill chief economist David Rosenberg pushed back his call for multiple rate cuts this year into 2008.

Ben Stein: How Speculators Exploit Market Fears
2007-08-06 16:58:00
Ben Stein : How Speculators Exploit Market Fears . Here's a fact: The speculators and hedge fund managers who run today's stock market need market volatility in order to make money. They can't make enough money if the market stays flat or moves only a bit, so they like extreme and unexpected price movements. They especially like sudden, surprise movements down, when they can make money off stocks they borrow and sell -- or, as they say, "sell short." Subprime is a mess. But it's a small mess. In the context of the size of the U.S. financial sector, it's nothing. In the meantime, the economy is strong. Profits are great, and interest rates are low and will stay that way.

Bank of America: Monday Expectations
2007-08-06 02:28:00
Bank of America ’s Elliott Forecast for Monday , 2007-08-06 Let’s observe the above Elliott Chart for BAC (Bank of America ). Major (multi-months) trend is still BULLISH, and I’m not crazy, just look at the major wide channel (1pm hand of clock). In the short-time perspective, we have much less beams of radiant smiles. Take a look, for example, at the couple more hidebound SUB-channels – 1) the 4pm hand of clock and 2) the 5pm hand of clock. They clearly represent the current downtrend. Again, major trend is bullish, no matter what, and I know why — BOC is not bad. My (somewhat simplified) notion is that the above SUB-channels reflect the sentiments, and not the fundamentals. Weird, that all this mess is caused JUST BY MARKET SENTIMENTS!

Finances in Trouble. For How Long?
2007-08-05 23:21:00
2007-07-03, Fina n cial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) lost -4.27%. After market, it returned +1.03% so far. Interesting, what gonna be in Monday? Look at the chart where we try to figure it out. Pay attention to the support and resistance levels. It’s important that the ETF price did not cross $31.72. If it does, we are in much more serious troubles than we ever thought.

Energy Sector Looks Interesting

1. Select Sector SPDR Energy Fund (XLE) SchaeffersResearch issued Option Activity Alert: Select Sector SPDR Energy Fund (XLE). Select Sector SPDR Energy Fund (XLE) includes the following top ten holdings and somewhat impressive performance. Also, The Wall Street Journal recommend XLE Trust in his article about Money Flow Leaders (XLE, SPY). 2. The Energy CPI and Market Trends: What’s the Connection? Did you notice that: When energy commodities went down in 2001, the S&P 500 went down in 2002? When energy went up in 2002, the market went up in 2003? When the percentage increase for energy went down in 2003, the percentage increase for the market went down in 2004? Energy commodities have spiked upwards for the first half of this year. Will this be the trend for the stock market next year?
