Meme: Four play
2007-05-02 06:19:00 I’ve been tagged for this meme by Misterhubs — a new blogger friend whose acquaintance I’d like to make but whose services I hope I’ll never need. Apparently, this game is all about four play…. memes, tag games More About: Meme , Play , Four
Spiderzzz
2007-05-02 02:56:00 Spiderman 3 was a big let-down: most definitely not a worthy successor to the two previous hits. I wouldn’t be surprised if it flopped in the box office. For one, the movie dragged on and on during the first half. Spiderman 3 More About: Spiderman 3 , Spider
My blogs and their PageRanks
2007-05-01 06:00:00 Today I woke up to a text message from my friend, Janette, congratulating me for my blogs’ new Page Rank numbers. Woohoo!!! Finally, the Big G’s gotten ’round to ranking my sites! All of them are new blogs, created only this year (well, the first two below are actually much older blogs, but since I got ... More About: Google , Blogs , Ranks
Altruism in the summer heat
2007-04-26 04:00:00 The summer heat is proving to be quite a challenge to everybody. Lately I’ve been hearing of rising cases of heat stroke, serious nose bleeds, flaring tempers in traffic jams…. And yet, at times, the human spirit manages to shine even brighter than the sweltering sun. A few days ago, inching along the highway in 35°C ... More About: Summer , Heat
Keep the people?s voice alive
2007-04-24 11:11:00 After the much-publicized presence of a U.N. rapporteur here to investigate the spate of killings of journalists, and after the horrific number of those killings itself, unbelievably, here comes another incident. Last 18 April, Radyo ng Bayan’s Carmelo Palacios was beaten and shot to death at his home in Nueva Ecija. I hate to say it ... More About: People , Voice , Live , Keep , The People
Kindness repaid
2007-04-23 02:06:00 As some of my more loyal readers may have noticed, I’m very much into Japanese culture. I speak the language, for one (read & write as well). I used to play judo; and my hobbies include calligraphy and reading manga. I also used to grow bonsai (hmmm… can you say ‘grow’ in this case?). In 2002, ... More About: Paid , Kindness , Ness
Bloghopping and personalities
2007-04-08 20:22:00 I recently gave someone (unsolicited) advice to go bloghopping before forming opinions about something or other. So, before that advice rebounds to me, I thought I’d do some of my own. It’s amazing how much about a person you can deduce just by rummaging through his personal stuff, right? Well, the same goes for a ... More About: Personal , Blog , Personalities , Person , Persona
The problem with bloggers
2007-04-06 18:07:00 I don’t pretend to be a writer in the league of Conrado de Quiros, nor do I purport to be an accomplished blogger of long standing in the Pinoy blogosphere. However, I cannot but help notice a problem among a number of bloggers. Blog ging is a free means of expressing oneself freely — yes, it ... More About: Blogger , With , Bloggers , Problem
Dabawenyos, vote wisely this May!
2007-04-04 09:38:00 I rarely attempt to endorse political candidates — partly because of my jaded attitude towards Philippine politics, and partly because politicians rarely fail to disappoint. However, I’m going out on a limb here to campaign for Ang Kapatiran Party’s Mr. Jess Paredes for senator of the Republic. Aside from my father’s willing support of this ... iNames - a new gimmick
2007-04-02 09:09:00 Apple has popularized and innovated many things that are household names today. And it’s quite refreshing, because they’re always coming up with something new. Now somebody’s riding on that wave — or as they put it, giving “tribute to Apple and all their goodness.” I found out about iName s through another Davao blog, eetsie’s world. It ... Let?s play tag!
2007-03-19 08:48:00 After meeting so many kindred souls during the Davao Bloggers Party #1, I thought I’d start a tagging game. Let’s talk about stress relief. 3 or 4 funny things you do to relieve stress. When deadlines are fast approaching but you’re not even halfway through. When your boss is on your ass like a ... Game over, Pacman
2007-03-13 14:46:00 I spoke too soon. In a previous post, I expressed relief that Manny Pacquiao had bowed out of the political rat race. But a few days ago, he has finally declared his intention to run. What a shame! What a total loss! This goes to show how much Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo respects the Filipino people. The world’s ... Of lions & kittens
2007-03-08 20:10:01 Whereas Junichiro Koizumi was a master of international affairs, perhaps even of foreign policy, his successor, Shinzo Abe, is turning out to be the exact opposite. Only a few months in office and he has already ruffled Chinese and Korean feathers. In my opinion, former Japanese PM Koizumi had the right balance of domestic and foreign policies advocacy. He as well irked China and Korea to no end by annual homage to Yasukuni Shrine. This was, however, a promise he’d made to his constituents. No matter how much diplomatic tension his official visits to the controversial shrine caused, Koizumi stood his ground. This practice was, in Koizumi’s mind, a Japanese — a domestic — matter. The honesty of kids
2007-03-05 20:09:02 I’m tutoring a 9-year old Japanese boy, teaching him Math and English. (The latter is no problem for me at all, but the former? this is the very first time that anyone’s asked me to teach Math! Anyway, it’s just Grade 2 arithmetic.) It was our first session last Saturday, and we went through the usual getting-to-know-each-other phase. I’ve known his father for several months now, but this was the first time that the kid’s seen me. He asked me quite candidly what made me decide to take up teaching, and some more questions that were very frank and open. The kind of questions that made me pause and try to give him as frank an answer as I could. (more…) honesty, teaching More About: Kids , Honest , Nest , Honesty
New blog: ?Mission: 6-Pack Abs?
2007-03-02 08:06:02 Today I was at Holiday Spa to talk to my friend Ivy F., who’s the COO of the fitness centers in Davao and Cebu. At last I’ve decided to get back in shape again after years of neglecting my health. so it’s back to aerobics and weights training for me! And to ensure that I stick ... Huwag nang pakyawin
2007-02-28 14:04:03 It was a relief to read the news about Manny Pacquiao’s withdrawal from the congressional elections. I was already planning to write something rather inflammatory about his political ambitions (or rather, the ambitions of those people behind Manny’s political bid). It’s good that he came to his senses before it was too late. And his decision ...
New place, same scheiss
2007-02-28 02:03:02 After a long interval, I was able to go out of town again (Samal’s a different city, but that doesn’t count as going out of town for a Davaoeño). And I was pretty excited about it too, because I’d never been there. Compostela Valley. But it was such a big disappointment. Nothing, absolutely nothing to ... Blood Diamond
2007-02-28 02:03:02 I’d wanted to do another movie bashing, this time on Blood Diamond … but I saw one written up by a fellow Davao blogger, and I thought, hey! this is so much more on the ball! So I’ll forego my own review and let you read this one @ Southisms. I just adore bitchy movie reviews hehehe ...
Nihon-yuki
2007-02-28 02:03:02 In the 15 years — on and off — that I’ve been studying the Japanese language, I’ve never been to Japan. I’ve gotten pretty good at it too, if I do say so myself, and I can carry a decent enough conversation with my Japanese friends. What’s more, I’m actally making money out of translating ... Era?gone
2007-02-28 02:03:02 Of course I knew that any comparison to LOTR would be quite unfair to any new entrant into the genre. So, I prepared not to be too judgemental towards Eragon when I set out to watch this movie. More About: Gone
Nanay?s birthday
2007-02-28 02:03:02 Each year for our grandmother’s birthday celebration on 19 January, the uncles and aunts always try to come up with something unique or memorable. This year, Nana y’s 84th, it was a beach overnight at a newly-opened resort on Samal Island. What made this year even more special was that many relatives living abroad or in ... Command responsibility
2007-02-28 02:03:02 "There is no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher." This is one of the few adages that has deeply impressed me. It came back to me today after hearing of the head of a voluntary organization’s laments amid the alleged apathy of his constituents. A leader who has to complain about how ... Siargao travelogue
2007-02-28 02:03:02 I spent Holy Week with a couple of friends on Siargao Island. We’d originally planned to go to Boracay some months before, but then I got caught up in my work. My sweet friends, they canceled the Boracay trip altogether because they didn’t want me to miss out on the fun. And so Alex, Bamba ... More About: Travel , Rave , Travelogue , Argao
Class A sashimi
2007-02-28 02:03:02 Tonight I had a gastronomic experience that made me say, ‘I could die now!’ But I’m not gonna die just yet… so it means I’m in trouble. From now on, I don’t think I could ever have sashimi again… unless it’s Class A tuna.
