2008-05-29 06:51:00 Illegal polish immigrant stuffs 20 scotch bottles in his bag, starts his journey by canoe to Sweden . Once he arrives in Stockholm , taking advantage of Sweden?s high duty, he profits by selling 19 bottles in the black market at double the price. Now the remaining bottle comes into the play. He starts drinking while circling around the police station. Police promptly arrest him. First Charge: Drunken Driving; Second Charge: Illegal Entry in Sweden. He gets a punishment of two-month imprisonment that is equipped with heater/air conditioner, Laundry, Newspaper and even paid daily wages. Once his sentence is over, with the Govt money, he is safely back in Poland. The smart earned Swedish moola makes him enjoy Poland at leisure for another six month. Driving In Asia: An entertaining exercise
2008-05-23 06:25:00 I was excited and justifiably so. First time in my life, I was appearing for a driving test. My trainer in his early 30?s made me drive through the narrow lanes of Mahim while teaching me the utility of stretching my right hand and its palm outside the car window and creating different angles and rotations to give signals to drivers of vehicles behind me. After completing 30 odd lessons on Maruti 800, at an appointed time, I with my fellow students gathered at Bombay central Driving license issuance office. Hoards of people had already arrived. Like with any govt premises, touts and intermediaries were busy huddling with prospective clients while scurrying through office blocks that housed numerous clerks. Our trainer seemed proficient with the rules of this game. He made us wait for a while and after a while came out of the office accompanied by license issuing instructor. Trainer came running towards me ?Your Turn now. Get Ready!? He pushed me inside his car while sitting next to ... More About: Asia , Exercise , Entertaining
Being Nude under the sky and above the sea- Avillion Resort at Port Dickson
2008-05-18 10:14:00 Last week, over 1,800 men and women arrived all nude at Vienna's Ernst Happel for a photo shoot. The shoot was a part of a cultural programme(!) running alongside Euro 2008 in Austria. They were volunteers who were not paid except to receive signed pictures of the photo-shoot. This story took me back to my stay at Avillion Resort at Port Dickson in January of this year. Taking a shower in an open arena under the open skies and above the surfing waves of the beach - albeit in a privacy of the hotel room ? and my meeting with ?Cape Town friend?- greeting me with his open feathers in spectacular fashion - made my stay memorable. I presumed my friend did so for welcoming me as there was no sight of any female around. The luminance spectacle of my friend - Peacock stayed with me for a long time and I decided to know the secrets behind his enchanting hairstyle. Sumeet Mixer: Is the company eroding its own brand?
2008-05-02 06:34:00 ?At 60 miles per hour, the loudest noise comes from electric clock?. For me, this advertisement for Rolls-Royce made by Ogilvy remains my all time favorite. The punch line sums up the product attributes without a mention of any of its features. India - Part that I am yet to Know and traverse
2008-04-27 12:31:00 Special April Issue of 'India Today' and March Issue of 'Jet wings' made me aware of India that I am yet to know ? both in terms of its places and the personalities.I remember two incidents when I can think of the historical sites of India. First ? A Korean while visiting Elephanta Caves pointedly asked ?Why everyone in India takes me to the sites that are the testimony of the past and forgotten. Why can?t anyone show me the place that belongs to this era?? This incident happened in 1988. Even today, I am not very sure where would I take him to a place or monument that our posterity would show it as a mark of 20th century. Another Incident was when Japanese asked me ?How many world heritage sites are there in India? ?I had to ponder a while and come with an estimate of 20. I was off the mark by 30%. The correct number was 27 and represents roughly 3% of Global 851 world heritage sites declared by UNESCO. I think India?s share of world trade would hover around 0.5%. I wish one da... 2008-03-19 05:11:00 TOLO CHINNA BINA.m...Hosted by eSnipsThere are songs that make us happy when we are morose and there are some that make is subdued when we are high. However, some songs make us feel nice, happy no matter what the situation is. Tolo Chinno Bina - a Bengali song from Ekanto Apun would come in this category. I discovered this song from the blog of Bishwanath and ever since, i am in love with the tune. Amazing RD with his fabulous repertoire of musical jewels and one such jewel is Tolo Chinna Bina.I was very keen to get the lyrics for this song but I could not get it on google. I must persist with my Bengali friends to get these and also English translation. Until then, I shall keep playing this song on my PC and feel elated. p.s : subasish from pancham yahoo forum wrote about hindi version of this song ' Laharake Dagar Chalti Hain'. Jakarta, Rains and Singapore Airlines
2008-03-07 10:44:00 Little dots of green and brown in the middle of surfing waves was the first glimpse of Indonesia?s many islands as my plane pierced through the clouds. I always take a window seat whenever it?s a day journey or if it's my first visit to the country. So was this time. I was visiting Indonesia first time. As I approached Jakarta , I could also see many rectangular shaped string of wooden sticks stuck in the water. Were these fishing nets? My curiosity of deciphering them without success may have made my nose tip flat by pressing hard against the aircraft window but it didn?t deter me to shift my focus to check of any human settlement on these little islands. Most of them did not show except an occasional house perched amidst banana and coconut trees. I wondered the economic feasibility of providing electricity, food to these 17,000 islands. No wonder only 6,000 are inhabited. Can Indonesia not consider making money by selling these islands to rich people of the west? My wild thought... Singapore v/s Dubai - My Initial Impressions
2008-02-27 07:49:00 ?What can we do together?? Retirement Means Death or Rejuvenation
2008-01-14 07:31:00 I was influenced by two contrasting opinions on Retirement . However in Asian countries, a section of domestic population is always more critical of their leaders . Singapore too is no exception. Y?day at Suntec Convention center, when Lew Kwan Yew talked about Retirement. ?With nothing to do, no purpose in life, you'll just degrade, go to seed '. No sooner he proclaimed ' Retirement Means Death', scores of messages started pouring in the local newspaper - Strait Times. Being Hindu in Pakistan and Muslim in India

He worked for nationalized bank and was on his way from work place to home. He was wearing half sleeve checked shirt and baggy trousers with neatly combed hair, wearing spectacle and carrying local newspaper. He was Indian middle aged common man with a small , stable family and a secure job. I was prepared for an insipid chat on mundane subjects about bureaucracy, ministerial intervention etc but he took me by surprise by telling me about his visit was to shift his family from New Delhi to his newly acquired residence in Meerut. This intrigued me as I was seeing for the first time a migration from a metro city to a small town. But once I understood his reasons for doing so, my intrigue was transformed into a rankled thought that has stayed with me since then. The above incident happened post Godhra and Hindu Muslim riots that ensued immediately after. Thoughts about Benazir Bhutto as I saw the final moments of her Assassinati
2007-12-29 07:04:00 I don?t remember if it was from her autobiography or from her syndicated column that I learnt about the behind the scene activities of ?Shimla agreement? that was signed after India -Pakistan 1971 war. Benazir must have been 26 then when she accompanied her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for the summit talks with Indira Gandhi. Benazir wonderfully portrayed the defeated mindset of Pakistani rulers whose pride was brutally wounded after their defeat in war and partition of their country. I think the opportunity to be present at the Shimla Pact must have been the moment for Benazir?s baptism into Pakistani politics. In 1993, I saw Benazir?s mother at hotel Intercon in Abu Dhabi. She was tall, fair and it seemed she bestowed her physical traits to Benazir. I do not know if she is still alive or not, but if she is- this must be the most cruel moment for her. Her husband was hanged, her one son ? Murtuza was murdered in Cannes, second son ? Shahanwaz ambushed and killed by Pakistani forces a... More About: Thoughts , Final , Moments
