Video Blog Entries Coming Soon!

Tomorrow (well technically later today) I plan to do my very first test run with a video blog! I plan to do about 3 minute video and post it over to youtube then embed the video over here and make that my main entry for the day! I just want to bring something different to the blogging table. Anyone can write posts all day long, but I want to do something completely unscripted and see how that goes. If all goes well and the idea really catches on I may expand on it and do some kind of feature every week! A Sunday Blog Update

Since camp got cancelled this weekend, I may as well do a Sunday blog update.Last year I was in Daytona for the Daytona 500. Actually I was there for almost the whole week. I drove down with a buddy of mine Wednesday night. The drive from Baltimore to Daytona is a long one! The party that entire weekend was great, except the weather didn't exactly cooperate with us! It was cold and rainy. This year the weather is much better, and I know my friends are down there enjoying the hell out of it! I would post some pictures, but the site that hosted them got deleted and those pictures are now gone forever...It's now one year later and this weekend has been a rather uneventful one. We had some friends over Friday night for a couple of drinks. That went on until about 4 in the morning before the last of them finally left. They close the 24 hour Wal-Mart Super Center! No joke! They are worried that the roof might collapse under all of the snow! Read all about it here!This just so happens to be in the same town where we were supposed to have practice this weekend. Needless to say practice this weekend is cancelled and rescheduled for March. I was really looking forward to getting to play again this weekend. It has been a month since we last played together and some things were really beginning to come together. I guess we'll have to wait another two weeks and see if everyone has retained all that we learned. For now, a preview of the new Brigadiers Uniform! The whole area has more snow then it can deal with though, and the lake effect snow still hasn't let up in the area. I remember a few years ago when we got over a foot of snow and the sun was out the whole day! I had mussels, Christine had veal. I'll let her blog about dinner! We would have taken pictures of dinner, but we already looked like camera freaks between her cell phone and me taking this picture last night!And we definitely got snow, not as much as they did in central and western NY, but we got some. I am checking out another blogging website called Vox. So far I really like the features that Vox has to offer. It is not nearly as customizable as blogger, but it has certain other features that I wish blogger had. It allows you to store photos, music, books, videos, and even posts from other blogs. Not only can you upload all of these things directly though Vox but you can also plug into other applications like Flickr, YouTube, PhotoBucket, and even Amazon. You can do all of your searches right through Vox for all of those sites to find the pictures, videos, music, or books you need. The coolest part is that you can include of of these things in each post on your blog. At camp last weekend we had a photographer and a reporter in to do an article about the Syracuse Brigadiers and the beginning of our 2007 season. 365 Days

The whole idea behind the group is to take a picture of yourself every day for one full year and post it. I have posted 8 days so far, though I skipped a few days when I was sick and at Brigs camp. I figured I have been taking so many pictures of myself since the textamerica days that it would be a piece of cake to continue this over on Flickr.This was an interesting picture that I came up with last night when I was trying to actually get a different picture. It looks like something out of an Ipod commercial! Ironically enough it also looks very similar to the position my hands would be in if you saw me carrying a contrabass!So I have quite a few days to go with my 365 days project. Can someone please explain this to me? I have been reading a lot about this lately and trying to find information on how to increase my google page rank is insane. My link is out there on a number of different people's blogs in both posts and in people's link list. Still my page rank is zero. I have more links back to my page and within my page then people with page ranks of 4 or 5. I tried submitting my links to some free directories and I am still stuck at zero.Any comments or suggestions from people with experience on this would be great. I need to find a way to boost the page rank of my blog in a hurry. Please share how you have done it. Fun With Photos

Lights and Lines, originally uploaded by spcbrass.These past few months I have really been taking a lot of pictures with the camera that Christine gave me. In fact I have taken over 1300 pictures. Now many of them are for fun and some don't come out looking good, so I have deleted most of the pictures that I have taken. The really good one's I post online to my Flickr page.As you can see, last night I discovered another setting on my camera that allows me to keep the shutter open for an extended period of time. This particular picture it was open for three seconds. I like the way it came out and I also like the fact that only half of the picture has the light in it.Since I have all this time on my hands, learning how to use the camera has been easy. I'll keep posting shots all of the time, so keep checking here or my Flickr page for my favorites!

I'm not gonna lie to you, it's cold out there! Today it is 7 outside with a wind chill of -9! I don't mind the cold weather, but once it gets down to single digits and negative digits, it isn't even worth going outside. I am going crazy with the weather being as cold as it is because I am not getting out during the day time at all. And now I understand why the beer here is stronger, because no one wants to go out and get anymore after you run out! At least if the weather would creep up to somewhere near freezing I wouldn't mind going outside. Well it's time to throw on another layer of clothes and go sit on my couch!

I found another great music sharing website yesterday called imeem. It allows you to upload mp3's. It appears as though this site will also allow you to upload photos and video as well. It also appears that there is a blog function though I have not yet explored that. What I like best about imeem is that you can embed it's player into any site that lets you modify or post html. You can embed single songs, or entire play lists. You can set the player to auto play or have the users click manually to play the song. Personally I prefer the manual play because I hate it when I log on to a site and I have to be interrupted by someone else's music! This Week = Uneventful

Well uneventful other then being sick lets hope I can finally put that to rest behind me. So that about sums up my week. I did absolutely nothing, zero, zip, notta! About all I did this week was post a couple of pictures to flickr. I updated the other blogs as well about some different things. So with that, the weekend awaits and it appears to be as uneventful as the rest of the week has been. I'll try to find something interesting to post about by the end of the weekend...until then.

Sleeping is not overrated

After 7 nights of barely being able to sleep because of a nasty cough I have finally been able to get some rest without hacking my head off every 5 minutes. This is either the first sign that I am actually getting over this nasty cough, or that I slept last night out of complete exhaustion. I really hope that I am getting better. I do feel better, but I can still feel it hanging on somewhat.Somehow I made it through a whole drum corps camp this past weekend without killing myself, though I am sure it made me a little weaker in fighting this cough. It takes a great deal of effort to be able to play the horn for all of those hours and it can make your body weak especially if you are sick.So here is to hoping that I am fully out of this funk in the next couple of days and I feel like me once again. If I sleep tonight like I did last night then I know I will be recovered by the weekend.

I'll be leaving shortly for another drum corps weekend. I really look forward to performing this year. I really like the selections that we have for our music this year. A lot of good vets have come back to help make the corps much stronger then it has been the past two years. We retained much of the young membership form last year as well and they will only get stronger as this year goes on.The corps overall is still younger then in past years. In fact at 29 I am the "old man" of the contra section. Right now with the members that we have in the section our average age is around 23. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Tribute to Vince BruniSyracuse Brigadiers 20032003 was another interesting year for the Brigadiers. This was a corps made up of people from the United States, Canada, England, Japan, Germany, and New Jersey! Yes New Jersey is a foreign country and for those of you that have been there or live there only you understand why!The corps itself had not lost a show since 1999 and the streak continued until August of that year. There were many growing pains with such an international corps that year with members coming in and out all season long. In the end we put on a couple of great performances but fell short of a 5th straight Championship, finishing second to the Hawthorne Caballeros.This piece right here is our tribute that we played the the Empire Statesmen for the late Vince Bruni. It's December 19th already?

To me it doesn't feel like December 19th. I have barely noticed that the holidays are here. In past years I always spent a lot of time out during this time of year. This year I have been out in public a minimal amount of time. Part of it has been the weather up here and part of it has been me just not wanting to get out. I will probably get out the next few days just to go and be around people and see how Montreal does Christmas. That and I still have to get Christine something! Anyhow I am off for today. I'll be back maybe once or twice more before Christmas.

Whatever happened to just plain athletic shoes?

Yesterday I spent over four hours shopping for a pair of running shoes. I need them for two purposes. First I might actually do some running to make sure that I am in top shape coming into this drum corps season. The second thing I am going to use them for is drum corps season itself. Basically these shoes are going to get used, abused, and then used some more.Thanks in part to hip hop culture shoes that fit exactly that purpose do not exist in stores anymore. Shoes are all leather (well synthetic leather with the leather price tag) and look entirely too fancy to take out and beat the crap out of. Also these materials that they are using will never withstand the elements. They are designed to be worn with your baggy jeans and your phat pharm 3XL t-shirts. If that is your style then great, go and be an individual and spend $200 on your favorite pair of kicks.For someone like me who wants a certain look along with function the only option is to go online and shop directly from the man...

After a 13 day holiday hiatus I have come back to the blogging world. After many parties and an entire Christmas spent in French I am going to slowly ease myself back into this!I already have a number of projects and plans for 2007. The first is getting myself back into the shape I want to be in. I need to come up with some kind of workout I can do without paying to go to the gym that will put some muscle back on my body. I have lost a lot of weight, but with the fat I lost also went the muscle. It is the price you have to pay in order to lose it though.I am also going to be starting work on a recruitment video for the Brigadiers. It may seem like it is a little late to put together a video for the 2007 season, but there is still plenty of time. That and this is a tool that we can use in the future, so doing the work this month will prove to help the corps for years to come.That's all for now. Hope everyone has a good 2007!
