Family
2008-05-02 11:42:00
For years I have been telling my husband that we should have our family portrait taken by a professional. I thought that would be wonderful. But life is busy and we just couldn't get around to scheduling a photo shoot. Come to think of it, our family is really just a "candid shots" kind of family. Our photos are best when taken in action, not posed. The digital drawing above was created by my son when he was in Grade 1. One day when I went to their school to volunteer, their computer teacher came up to me and said that she's got the best "portrait" of our family drawn by G. This computer teacher asked all the students in the school (hundreds of them) to draw their family. My son is the only one who drew a family all holding each other. She thought that was pretty neat. I thought so too. It reminds me of the phrase in Lilo and Stitch movie when the said "Ohana means family, and in our family no one is left behind". ***Family is the prompt for this week's Sunday Scribbling...

Mothers and Baby Poop
2008-05-01 06:19:00
Today is the first week of "Sincerely Fro Me to You" carnival at "We Are That Family". Oh yeah, we are THAT family too. We have lots of funny stories to share. And since is the opening day, I present to you one of the most beloved family memories we have:My daughter loves this story so much that she actually wrote an essay (in her 2nd grade class) about this. Yes, those are my son's poop I stepped on! Yikes! The thing is ... I am supposed to be cooking dinner right now, so I think I'd leave you all hanging and will come back about the story behind this photo later tonight or early tomorrow morning (you'd be back right?, please? :) . Right now I really want to link on Kristen's Mr. Linky already so I will...I'd be back :).***I'm back. Here's the story as told by my daughter (of course she did not spell the words correctly, but to make it easier to read, I did):I remember when I was a baby and my brother was two, one night when I was taking a nap and my brother just got don...

Works For Me Wednesday: Taking Care of Orchids
2008-04-30 06:44:00
I'm sure some of us will receive a plant this Mother's Day, and in case you receive on of those beautiful orchids in a pot, I have two tips for you:1) Do not overwater. Orchids do not need a lot of water. Once a week you can dip the pot in water for a one minute and that will do it. Or just use water spray to water it. It's better to have less water than too much water.2) Keep it in the shade. You can put it outside but no direct sunlight please. It does not need a lot of sunlight. It needs a lot of air. If you want, just keep it inside the house (like next to a window). Those two simple tips will keep your orchid plant alive. The photo here is from an orchid plant that was given to me 3 years ago. That's how I learned my tip - when I did what I shared it, it worked! And this year, they bloomed! I hope I get another orchid plant this mothers' day :)For more Works For Me Wednesday tips, please go to Rocks In My Dryer :)***Now for the give-away, please click the logo below:

Just musing ...
2008-04-27 11:44:00
It's 11:47 at night. I should be sleeping. Obviosuly I am not. I am blogging. This day had been a day of ups and downs. Hubby and I had some minor "irritations" (me irritated with my hubby) and I just couldn't shake my frustration out easily. I think I am PMSing. I know I am PMSing. Here's what happened. Hubby asked me if I want to go to the beach because our friends are there (and our daughter is there with them because she had a sleep over in their house). My answer was... I am not sure. I want to go to the beach BUT.... there are clutter to organized, our house needs to be cleaned, and there are chores to do....Hubby: So you don't want to go to the beach...Me: I do BUT.....Hubby: Just say it, you don't want to go to the beach.Me: well... I do, but I also have chores to do...Hubby: So you don't want to go(at this time I felt irritated because he's not accepting my answer that with the BUT)Me: (now shouting) Ok, ok then - I DO NOT WANT TO GO TO THE BEACH!The truth is ...

What Are Mothers Made Of ...

?Specs? for MotherStymied Even God by Erma Bombeck When the Good Lord was creating Mothers He was into his sixth day of ?overtime? when the angel appeared and said, ?You?re doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.? And the Lord said, ?Have you read the spec on this order??She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts . . . all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up. A kiss that cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair. And six pair of hands. The angel shook his head slowly and said, ?Six pair of hands . . . no way.? ?It?s not the hands that are causing me problems, ? said the Lord. ?It?s the three pair of eyes that Mothers have to have.? That?s on the standard model?? asked the angel. The Lord nodded. ?One pair sees through closed doors when she asks, ?What are the kids doing in there?? when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head ...

Grieving Mothers on Mothers Day...
2008-04-26 10:36:00
Photo from Bring The Rain Blog. The Story of Audrey CarolineI know I said I am going to do a Mothers Day series. I know I said I will start next week. But tonight ... tonight ... my heart goes out to the Moms who I think would have a little bit of sadness comes Mothers Day. How can we encourage them? I don't know ... flowers may help ... but it will never suffice. Hugs? yes, but they still would not be their child's hugs...I'm thinking of the wife of my co-worker whose son died on a motorcycle accident this year. It's her only son. Only son ...I'm thinking of Beth who lost her twin sons James and Jakes just a few months back ...I'm thinking of the Mothers of soldiers who died in the war this past couple of years...and I am thinking of Angie, Audrey Caroline's mom. Please go to her family's site to read more about them. (Warning: make sure you have a box of tissues next to you.)How can we help comfort grieving moms this coming Mothers Day? If you have any ideas, pleas...

Did Someone Say Mosquito Net?
2008-04-25 19:57:00
I read from Boomama that today, April 25, is the World Malaria Day. In connection with that, Compassion International launched a campaign to help some people (like some kids in Africa) protect themselves from this deadly sickness. if you want more information on how to participate and help make a difference in someone's life, just click the logo "Bite Back" on top of this post and it will take you to Boomama's blog and you'll read there how you can help. Let's help make a difference.* Those of you who know me personally know that I am addicted to "mosquito netting" at night (that's another post). I hate mosquitos with passion. Who doesn't? Please, help those kids now. Go to Bite Back site and Bomama's blog. Thanks.

"Fight" over Beckham's Jersey - What Are These Parents Thinking?
2008-04-25 10:28:00
In case you have not heard or read of the story, the link to Honolulu Adverstiser is here. I suggest you read it first so you'd know what I am talking about. Then you'll understand why I am so disappointed (bordering disgusted) with the parents of these who boys who both wanted to own the jersey that David Beckham gave away. I can understand that these kids are kids and it's very important for them to have that jersey of the sports idol they have. I will give them a break. Even though I don't agree that it's that important - for them it is. But you see, the parents need to take this opportunity to teach them the value of sharing, or of friendship, and that there's more to life than Beckham's jersey. What I can't understand is how the parents are handling this. They are now talking lawyers! What? Over a jersey? Puh-leez.... This has gone too far!My main concern is "what are these parents teaching their kids in all these?". Whatever happened to the word "sharing" or "conflic...

I just love my new header! Thanks to Elle, she made my blog pretty :). I blog-met Elle through Blog her. She one of the mommy blogher in my "blogher ring" so to speak (the blogs that rotates in my circle of blogher friends). Anyway, everytime I go to her blog I've always been impressed by her design and lay-out. It's always creative and fun - always pleasing in the eye. One time Beth of "I Should Be Folding My Laundry" had her blog designed by Elle and that's when I got the courage to contact her and asked if she can design my blog too. And boy was I so thankful - I love what she's done! She is so talented and creative, and so nice to work with - I highly recommend her. Let's Talk About Blogging
2008-04-22 10:54:00
Boomama is brainstorming along with Rocks in My Dryer and BigMama. I thought I'd answer some of the questions she posted for readers to give feedbacks on:1. What part of blogging brings you the most joy and satisfaction? Relationships? Having an outlet for writing? Reading? Commenting? Building your traffic? Something else?a. Something else: Introspection and Retrospection. A place to reflect on my thoughts and my opinions on various issues. A place to write stuff that I am passionate about (like worship, parenting, etc.) and "reflect" on it...b. Connecting with others - I guess that's relationship. I am amazed how this blogging community has produced various online friendships. It's absolutely fantastic. I love and enjoy my bloggy friends even though I have not met them/you in person. I also love that this blog connects me with my extended family. My brothers and sister in laws read this blog regularly even though they do not leave a comment :)2. What is the most frustrating...

Missing My Schwabbie Friends
2008-04-18 06:09:00
Last night I got a call from a parent of a child with ADHD. A good friend of mine gave her my phone number. I'm glad she did. This mom is needing support and encouragement. We talked on the phone for a long time. After the phone call I started looking back and remembering the time when my son was at the peak of his difficulty in school back when he was in kindergarten. Before we found out that he's dyslexic, has ADHD and Uniquely Gifted, he was having a lot or problems in school. The teachers were having a hard time dealing with him. To make the long story short - he's doing a lot better now...actually he's doing great. What made the difference? A lot of things. Countless research, doctors visits and support, etc. etc. But the thing that made the real impact in my son's life is when I found the support group at Schwablearning.com I learned a lot from the parents there, I developed friendships, on times I was down they were there to lift me up.The Schwablearning website ...
