Andrew Johnston sings Pie Jesu at Britain's Got Talent
2008-04-17 08:21:00 This video is already being posted in hundreds of blogs around the world. But I still feel like posting it here. This boy was bullied for his love of choir music (among other things) but now he's a popular guy as he wins the Britain's Got Talent Show (hopefully winning the grand final). This boy reminds me of the movie ABOUT A BOY. If you've watched the movie About A Boy - don't you think this boy's story has a little bit of similarity?Funny, the other day I was just thinking of posting something about "how to protect our kids from bullies" and today I saw this at My Daily Ramblings Rendezvous Blog. I like this kind of story - from being bullied to becoming popular and successful. Here's an excerpt from the news:A BULLIED schoolboy who lives on a council estate has stunned Britain with his sensational voice. Andrew Johnson, 13, was clearly nervous as he took to the stage on Britain?s Got Talent. But just like Paul Potts the year before, he left the judges in tears and won a sta... Should My Daughter Be A Model?
2008-04-17 06:06:00 This conversation happened the other day:N: "Mom, do you think I should be a model?"Mom: "Why do you ask?"N: "Because a lot of people tells me that.""They tell me I look like a model or I should be a model"Mom: "Hmmm ... I don't know... Do you want to?"N: "Hmmm... kindda..."Which leads us to one of our favorite "when they were small" story. It's the story of when N ALMOST became a model :)She was in pre-school at that time. I was still working full-time then. One day I got a call from Hubby saying that there's an "audition" for models at MB Hotel and that maybe I should take the kids. It's only for that day.You see, the modeling agency that was doing the screening is a reputable one. In fact it's the same agency that hired some of our friends' kids back when they were small boys and those boys earned a substantial amount of wage modeling for a Kids' Clothing Magazine. Since we know that it's legitimate because of the positive experience of our friends, we I decided to ... More About: Family , Parenting , Model , Daughter

Certified Mommy Blogger
2008-04-13 09:20:00 Both kids are on a sleep over at a friend's house. Hubby is asleep. And what am I doing? You guessed it - I'm blogging! yes, BLOGGING. Oh I just love blogging. Some non-blogger have a hard time understanding this, but a certified mommy blogger like me knows exactly what I mean when I say that blogging is such a cool thing! The title of this post is kind of deceptive. I am not really going to talk about what it means to be a certified mommy blogger. I just thought that title is cool. The truth is this is going to be another one of those "random post on a lot a stuff in random". Because it's 10 o'clock at night, and my brain does not do coherent at 10PM. I should be sleeping ...* I ran another 5K today! My 3rd in 2 years :). My 9 year old daughter ran with me. She did the 1 mile fun run. She came in 10th place! Me? Second place ... from the bottom! OK, there were probably about 3 behind me but they all finished about the same time... about 5 minutes after I finished. I'll... More About: Family , Blogger , Blogging , Mommy , Certified
Sunset At The Cove, Maui
2008-04-13 08:39:00 April 6 to April 12, 2008Our friends Johnny and Sol took these photos. They have just started a business called "John and Sol Surf Shots", so when you visit Maui and you tried to learn to surf, make sure you contact me and I'll hook you up with John and Sol. They are great - you'll have some wonderful surf shot memories for sure when you contact them :).They took this photo at the Cove, a family friendly and beginner friendly surf spot on South Kihei, Maui. They gave me permission to publish this photo and so I chose these to be my weekly winner for this week :) Now, don't forget to visit Lotus' blog for more weekly winner photos.* Sorry, this is an exception to the rule of Sarcastic Mom that I should have taken the photos. But these Sunset photos are excellent, I can't help but want to share them. This is not an ad, just sharing Maui sunset. Next week, I'll post my photos again.
Because A Mother Has To Brag ...
2008-04-12 17:05:00 Kids got their report cards this week. Both did well (or shall I say doing well) in school. And because a mother has to brag, I am posting some of the teacher's comments here:N's teacher wrote:N is doing a good job in all subjects. She is always focused and on task. N is helpful in class and enjoys interacting with her classmates. Having her for a student is a treat. Keep doing your best :)G's teacher wrote:G is having a great year. He is making gains in all areas of academics, including writing. G really jumped up in his STAR Math scores this quarter (from 3.8 to 6.0) - way t go G, I am so proud of your accomplishments! G has grown so much this year and I really enjoy having him in my class. Keep up the great work G, you are an awesome student. More About: Mother , Brag

Fearless Parenting
2008-04-11 07:05:00 Sam, during our Sunday Service, asked the questions: "What are your fears?" I immediately started thinking in my head - "yeah, what is it that I am afraid of?"Death? - Not for me. At least not exactly. I am not afraid for myself to die, for I know that to live is Christ and to die is gain.... but ... in a way I fear death because of the thought "who then will take care of my kids if I die?"Deeper self examination revealed that most of my fears are "family related", especially related to my kids. It does not help that many of the news today consists of crimes, accidents, doom and gloom.I am constantly praying that nothing bad will happen to my kids and my family, that they would be safe from harm. I am constantly praying that they will make good decisions; that they will choose wisely. And yet I know that I cannot let fear be my guide. In parenting, I need to be fearless; to do my best and trust God for the rest.I cannot protect my kids every minute. I cannot shelter them from all... More About: Parenting , Fearless
Seasons of My Life
2008-04-10 05:50:00 This morning I was thinking about seasons ... not just the seasons like winter, spring, summer or fall. I was thinking about the seasons ... of my life. And I am so thankful ...There was a season in my childhood and youth when I was very insecure, but the Lord brought me friends and with their help (even without them knowing) my self-esteem grew...There was a season in my life (in college) when I was feeling unsure, afraid, uncertain of my purpose in life ... then the Lord revealed himself to me in a personal way. There was a season in my life when I fell in love with a guy who is not a Christian, and because I have committed myself to not being equally yoked with a non-Christian in marriage, I had to let go ... and after that difficult season, the Lord brought a new love, and that love is still my love today... my husband of 14 years ...There was a season in my life when I had to move away from my family to a place unfamiliar, with new culture, new environment and i had to devel... Works for Me: Visual Recipe
2008-04-09 05:28:00 The photo above really has nothing to do with this post. Or maybe a little. I placed the photo there for "visual" because my "Works for me Wednesday" sharing today is about visual recipes. (click here to find out more about the photo) The other day I goggled a recipe for "spaghetti pie" and I encountered a website that has "visual recipe's" - that works well for me! I am "culinary challenged" and so I need visuals in order for me to follow a recipe. So without further adoo... here's the website of the Visual Recipe s. I Surfed! (My Weekly Winner Photos)
2008-04-06 12:22:00 Those who know me well would know that this is a big deal. I never thought I'd surf in my whole life - never! I am such a chicken when it comes to swimming, especially in the ocean. I also am very uncoordinated and not sporty. Well, my friend Sol who is a great surfer never gave up on me. She taught me how to surf. And thank to Sol, I did! Here's the proof:In this first photo, I was quite scared. I was still very hesitant. I thought I would make a fool of myself if I try....But I tried anyway. This is the first attempt. Not bad...Getting up... Sol said "look up ... never look down ..."And up .... I stood! and I tried to balance...And I surfed! I can't believe it, I surfed!Thank you Sol! Thank you very much for being such a great surf instructor! And here's Sol for the "real surf" photo. Sunday Scribbling: The Photograph
2008-04-04 07:23:00 This photograph was taken during Tatay and Nanay's visit to Maui. The original plan was for them to move to Maui and to stay with us as long as they live. That plan changed; they got homesick. I do not know when they can come visit again because I do not know when we can afford to buy them another round trip ticket to Maui. If we can't buy them a ticket within six (6) months from the time they left, their Immigrant Visa will expire and it will be very hard to get them a visa again. That means it close to impossible for them to come back to the US. But at this point we really can;t afford to buy them a round trip ticket within six months so it looks like this photo with their grandkids here would be the last photo they would have with them here on Maui. Maybe we can someday visit them in the Philippines, but for now i just want to say that this photograph is a very special one. my son made the frame. We will always cherish Tatay and Nanay's visit here. For more Sunday Scr... More About: Family
3rd Graders Planned To Kill Their Teacher?
2008-04-03 09:40:00 This is probably one of the most disturbing news I've heard recently: Eleven Third Grade Students Planned to Attack and Kill Their Teacher !Where is our society heading? Wasn't there a saying before that goes like "Youth is the Hope of Our Nation"? Gosh, these kids aren't even "youth" yet, I mean, they are kids! And they are already doing this? (plot to kill a teacher? planned it's details?)I guess this news really disturb me because I have a son who is in 4th grade and a daughter who is in 3rd grade right now. And I cannot fathom the fact that some kids their age actually planned in detail an attack kill the teacher! Did these kids watched too much TV, played too much violent video games, or what?Maybe others will say that this is an isolated case and that it does not represent the youth of today. But has this kind of news been heard 20 or 10 years ago? I don't think anything like this has happened before. And it's not a good thing that it is happening now. It's not jus...

How Great Thou Art - Video and Lyrics - sung by Carrie Underwood
2008-04-01 20:16:00 O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made; I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art! When through the woods, and forest glades I wander, And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees. When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art! And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing; Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin. Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee, How gre... More About: Video , Carrie Underwood , Lyrics , Great , Worship

2008-04-01 08:29:00 We had a good weekend this past weekend. Busy but good (I'll share more later). Hubby took the kids out camping on Friday night together with K and his kids. It was great because I was able to de-clutter without interruptions. C was also happy that K took their kids camping. In The Shadow of The Moon
2008-03-29 03:57:00 It's interesting that Sunday Scribbling's prompt for this week is "Out Of This World" because we just watched the the DVD In The Shadow Of The Moon last Night. It was indeed an out of this world experience for the astronauts, and while watching this DVD it was almost an out of this world experience for us. I encourage you to watch the DVD. But it does not end there. Out of this world exist not only the moon, but the universe, the galaxy, the heaven. And the more I see and learn about these wonderful universe, the more I am convinced that there is a Creator, and He is Indescribable.Beyond this world;beyond my dreams;beyond the gloryof this Earth. There is a God;there is a Lord;there is a CreatorI have no doubt, there is.***Visit Sunday Scribblings for more scribblings on Out Of This World More About: The Moon , In the Shadow of the Moon

More articles from this author:2008-03-28 16:36:00 Many of the following thoughts are worthy of a full blog but I just couldn't find the time to compose the full post. So here it is in it's quick random version:1. Growing Friendships Through Friendly Fires. Last week I was able to talk to my best friend Karene about our struggles of not being a part of an ohana (church cell group). I was able to talk to her about the battle I am waging on this - how Satan is trying to use "friendly fires" to hurt us. I have not talked about this to anyone here (except in my blog) and it's nice to finally talk to Karene about it. We're doing ok. It can be better, but or now - we'll take it a day at a time...2. Our pastor and good friend Kit was diagnosed with acute Lukemia last week. It was sort of a surprise. He's a healthy and fit guy. He just went to the doctor for a quick check-up because he's feeling weak lately. Now he's on Oahu for cancer treatment. He started a blog.
