Works for Me: Celebrating Spring Too
2008-03-26 05:05:00
Shannon talked about celebrating spring in her WFMW post a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad she did. You see I had planned the "usual" activities with my kids for Easter - like the Easter Egg Hunt and Coloring Eggs, etc. But we got so busy spending time with friends we really didn't get to do them during Easter. The good thing is I didn't stress out about it. I told them that we'll just do them the day after Easter to celebrate spring :). It worked! Here's a photo of our "coloring eggs for spring celebration". We did them this Tuesday morning :)Tomorrow, we'll do the Spring Egg Hunt. The plastic eggs are still filled with chocolates and candies. Yes, I planned to do an Easter Egg hunt with all kids (my kids and our guests) last Sunday. It didn't happen. So, we're celebrating spring with a egg hunt. Works for me :)Thanks Shannon for sharing about celebrating spring! For more WFMW tips, visit Shannon at Rocks In My Dryer
Do Not Let Your Hearts Be Troubled ...
2008-03-21 17:04:00
Do not let your hearts be troubled.trust in God; trust also in me."- John 14:1It's the expression of Jesus that puzzles us. We've never seen his face like this.Jesus smiling, yes.Jesus weeping, absolutely.Jesus stern, even that. But Jesus anguished? Cheeks streaked with tears? face flooded in sweat? Rivulets of blood dripping from his chin? You remember the might."Jesus... kneeled down and prayed, 'Father, if you are willing, take away this cup of suffering. But do waht you want, not what I want'...His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground". (Luke 22:41-44 NCV).Jesus was more than anxious; he was afraid. How remarkable that Jesus felt such fear. How how kind that he told us about it. We tend to do the opposite. Gloss over our fears. Cover them up. Keep our sweaty hands in our pockets, our nausea and dry mouths a secret. Not so with Jesus. We see no mask of strength."Father, if you are willing, take away this cup of suffering." The first one to hear of his fear is h...

Thoughts on Blah-ging
2008-03-19 16:09:00
Yes, I still am on a slow down mode in blah-ging (isn't that version of spelling funny, as in blah blah blah in blogs? :) ) . I often look at my ranking at blogtopsite and topblogarea, and I'd be lying if I say it's ok that it's going down and I am not worried. Because the truth is, I am worried about my ranking going too low during my slow down mode. I know... I know... I'm blogging for me and I shouldn't be worried about traffic and ranking. However, as much as I enjoy blogging and I'm blogging for the love of blogging, I am also hoping that the little income I earn through the ads in my blog would help supplement the income I'd be losing because I went part-time. And as all of us bloggers know, blog income is almost always directly proportional to blog traffic. More importantly, I really enjoy "being connected to you, my blogging friends" and a slow down mode reduces that connectedness, in my opinion. I need or want to be able to respond to comments, I think that wo...

Balance
2008-03-18 16:05:00
* Yesterday marks the first day of me working part time (25 hours a week) as opposed to almost full time (36 hours a week) outside of our home. It's a bitter sweet feeling I must admit. I am glad to have that extra time with my kids, but I am scared to death of how it's going to affect our finances (especially with all the news of recession, etc.)* The other night our family watched the movie "Karate Kid". There are so much to learn in that movie. Everytime I watch it I learn something new. The other night the lesson that stood out is "balance". Miyagi said, balance is not only important in Karate - it's important in life. How true, isn't it.* We received a very sad news last week. Our neighbor who we had grown to love so much is moving back to the mainland. There was a re-organization in D's (husband/dad) work situation and D was affected. Since Maui is a small island and job opportunities are scarce while the cost of living is so high - they decided to move back to the...

Spiritual Bootcamp
2008-03-16 11:18:00
March 8, 2008 - I thought I would be at Las Vegas at that time as I was one of the 3 bloggers Prilosec was considering to live blog the Bunco Championship event. At first I was sad that I did not get chosen, but after thinking more about it, and after all the things that happened that weekend, I am pretty sure it was God's will for me to stay on Maui.I was going to write an extensive post about the spiritual bootcamp but a week had already passed and I still have not had the chance to post what I learned during the camp (there were a lot of lessons learned), so I am doing a slide show for a start. Hopefully later I can post more about it, but for now, please enjoy the photos:

My Two Cents (The Case of Spritzer)
2008-03-14 16:09:00
This week we had been inundated by news of Spritzer being caught participating in a high class prostitution ring. I admit, I am one of the millions who followed this news intently. Not that I care about Spritzer, not that I like juicy news or gossips, not that I enjoy seeing a politician's career go down the drain - no it's not those. I think what makes me follow this story is the fact that I know that my husband can be very vulnerable to the same kind of temptation. Heck, I can be vulnerable to the same kind of temptation. All of us are. Not that we can afford a $1,500 an hour night of promiscuity, but a similar sin on a different price level can occur if we are not careful. A Bible verse popped in my head as I was thinking about this:?Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, ?The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.? We must not indulge in sexual...

Spiritual Warfare - Armour Found on Ephesians 6:10-17
2008-03-13 15:50:00
"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

Slowing Down But Not Stopping Update
2008-03-13 09:01:00
To some it might seem like I never really slowed down. But I did. Not as much as I thought I would. But I did. This is my second week that I am not participating in any blog carnival, and I think I will continue with that. I also am not participating in any meme's or tags. I simply will post stuff and issues I am very passionate about, when time permits. Oh, I know I participated in "The Ultimate Blog Party", but that's because I already made a commitment to Mikarose prior to my decision to slow down. I must admit though that it's fun having visitors from there.I know I got carried away with my postings about Lea Salonga's concert. I have yet to do Part 4, which hopefully is the finale. But honestly, I've cut back on posting and reading post. But if I wasn't slowing down, I would have already posted my reaction to Spitzer's case.... because I have a lot of opinion on that case.....

Lea Salonga on Maui - Part 3
2008-03-12 06:12:00
* Act 2 - Fabulous! - Enter Lea in a very nice elegant turquoise glittery gown. The audience gasped and clapped. Lea said "Note to self, tell the person who made the gown, the audience likes it". Someone from the audience shouted "It's not the gown - it's you!" :). Lea said "Note to self, tell Lea's Mom, the audience likes her" :). Actually, her mom was there :)The first song was a "A Whole New World" from the Disney movie Aladdin. Since it's a duet, Lea asked for volunteer. I noticed two hands in front immediately rose. I am not sure how many were in the back. Lea told the guy in white suit to come up. Turned out, his name is Guy. What a lucky Guy!Guy sang "A Whole New World" with Lea. We could tell he's nervous because he sang ahead of the cue and was a little out of tune at first - but he was able to recover and sang well in the middle part and towards the end. Lea was very gracious and helped him get into the tune. It was an experience of a lifetime. I salute Guy...

Prayer Choice and Prayer Conflict
2008-03-11 16:05:00
?When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and pray to thy Father which is in secret.? Matthew 6:6Jesus did not say - Dream about thy Father in secret, but pray to thy Father in secret. Prayer is an effort of will. After we have entered our secret place and have shut the door, the most difficult thing to do is to pray; we cannot get our minds into working order, and the first thing that conflicts is wandering thoughts. The great battle in private prayer is the overcoming of mental wool-gathering. We have to discipline our minds and concentrate on wilful prayer. We must have a selected place for prayer and when we get there the plague of flies begins - This must be done, and that. "Shut thy door." A secret silence means to shut the door deliberately on emotions and remember God. God is in secret, and He sees us from the secret place; He does not see us as other people see us, or as we see ourselves. When we live in the secret place it becomes impossible for us to doubt God, we become m...

Lea Salonga on Maui (Part 2)
2008-03-10 08:24:00
Part 1 can be found here.* Act 1 Continued .... (thank you arkiteckfhc for the photo of Lea as Fantine)There was a standing ovation after Lea sang the "I Dreamed A Dream". Now, if you're in a concert and you see a standing ovation on the second song, you know it's a great concert. I was thinking, this concert is already worth every penny I spent on this even though it's just the second song. The next song she sang is called "I've Never Been In Love Before". And I'm glad to find another YouTube video of this song being sang by Lea:Next, she sang a Tagalog song titled "Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal". Gosh, I remember watching this movie, her movie with Aga Mulach where she sang this song. It made me a bit nostalgic. I know this song was popularized by Anthony Castello back in our days, but Lea sang it beautifully> she even encouraged all of us to sing along with her. After the Tagalog song came the famous song from Mulan titled Reflections. This is one of my daughter's favorite son...

Lea Salonga on Maui (Part 1)
2008-03-08 16:55:00
Excellent! Outstanding! Those two words sums up my review on Lea Salonga's performance at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, Castle Theater, last night, March 7, 2008.But I am not stopping at those review. Please allow me to share with you this wonderful experience with Lea Salonga... (warning, this will be a long post).* Before The ConcertThe show starts at 7:30 PM. I arrived at the MACC parking lot at 6:30 PM and it's already full. I drove around a couple of times hoping I'd find a spot. I did. There was this person who parked his/her Toyota Explorer rudely that made the next parking stall so small and hard to squeeze in. Most cars won't make it in the tiny space, so it was left open. I have a small Hyundai and so I summoned every little bit of driving ability I have to squeeze in without damaging the rude Toyota car on the left and the nice red car on the right. I barely made it but I did! There was an aura of great excitement and warmth in the audience as I entered the...

I Am My Father's Daughter
2008-03-03 14:52:00
When I was a little girl, I remember waking up in the morning and seeing a huge pile of cigarette butts on a big ash tray. Those cigarette butts weren't there the night before so I knew all those cigarettes were consumed that night by my dad... You see my dad used to wake up in the middle of the night, I guess due to stress and anxiety - he's a worrier. When I was in high school, I remembered noticing that there were no cigarette butts in the morning anymore. Instead, there was an open Bible with lots of highlights and underline.... You see, it was in those sleepless nights that my dad met the Lord. No one shared with him about "needing to be born again". It was directly a work of the Holy Spirit in his heart. When he was waking up with anxious thoughts in the morning, the Spirit of the Lord led him to a personal relationship with God.I am a worrier like my Dad. Thankfully, I met Jesus at an early age and didn't have to consume a large amount of cigarette to cover up my anxiety...

What To Say To A Grieving Friend...
2008-03-03 01:49:00
I have shared with you about my blogging friend Beth losing her twin boys to a still birth.Today, I feel the pain of her grieving as I read her post here. I wanted to say something but didn't know what... Then, I had these words to say, which I believe God led me to say to her:It is not without a reason or purpose that the verse "JESUS WEPT" is written in the Bible. Jesus wept when Lazarus died even though Jesus knows He will raise him up from the dead. Jesus knows our sorrows. He felt it. He felt the pain of every grieving heart. Weep my friend if you need too. Jesus understands. And like Lazarus, your twin baby boys will be raise to be with us all when all of us believers go to heaven. As another Bible verse says "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning". When you have a friend who's grieving, please remind them that it's ok to weep. Jesus did.

A Penny For Your Thought
2008-02-29 19:19:00
Hubby called me this morning and said "check your e-mail, I have something for your blog". Funny, he was one of the reasons why I am slowing down on posting; and now here he was calling me for something to post on my blog. And so I checked the e-mail and found this story:You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I've ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house. The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into ho the very wealthy live. The husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the ...

Slowing Down, But Not Stopping
2008-02-27 15:35:00
I did this once before. If you've been with me in this blogging journey of mine since the beginning, you'd remember that I once slowed down; I once stepped back. I am doing it again. In the coming months I will be posting less (notice I already removed my Blog 365 button). I will be posting at least twice a month, maybe once week at the most. I will not participate in any blog carnival. This will drastically reduce traffic in my blog but that's ok. Once I sort out what I need to sort out and do the mission that I feel God is calling me to do, I will slowly get back to joining carnivals and the traffic will slowly but surely pick up once again. I am sure. The midnight prayer I posted the other night came from the pit of my heart. It was triggered by a "bad" argument that my husband and I had that night, when out of the blue, in a bad timing and bad way on my part I blurted out the words "I want to start working part time instead of full time". Those words are not the words my hu...

Please hop over to Beth's Blog (I Should Be Folding Laundry) and give her a "cyber hug". She just lost her twin baby boys to a still birth. We would never know the depth of grieving Beth has to go through, but it would surely ease some pain to know that others are praying for her. Please say a prayer for her and her family, and let her know you did.

Dear God
2008-02-25 12:06:00
It's 1:11 am and I need to hear from you...clearly. Please speak to me, in whatever way you will. I need your confirmation about your plan in my life. I need clear direction. I need clear guidance. I need to know without a shadow of a doubt that what I think you'd want me to do is what you really want me to do.Oh God, I need your confirmation. Please don't ask me to step out in faith, because that is not good enough for my husband. I need a concrete plan, a plan and a confirmation that if I do what I think you'd want me to do that you will bless it, and that we will not be in trouble financially, and it will not cause a rift in our marriage.Oh God, I am tired; I am scared; I am anxious. Do you want me to continue blogging? Or must I stop? Are you really calling me to start that Learning Center or not? Is it your will for me to lessen my hours at my work right now so I can concentrate on starting up this Learning Center or is that foolishness? Can I really start up a learnin...
