Tackle It Tuesday: Valentine For My Mother In Law
2008-02-12 05:29:00
My mom-in-law and I at the Lavender Garden during one of her visits here on MauiI had not been a very good daughter-in-law recently. I have been very busy "taking care" of my parents that I just left it up to my husband to "take care" of his mom. He's very good at calling her on the phone. She lives in Connecticut. I am very bad at calling people on the phone to start with. I am not good at conversing so it's good that my husband is good at it. But my mother in law likes talking to me, because I always try to be as encouraging as I can, so I need to make sure I call too (she needs a lot of encouragement right now). And this is what I want to tackle tomorrow Tuesday . I need to:1) Call the florist and order flowers for her to be delivered on Valentine s Day.2) Mail a card and a gift even though I know it will be late :(3) Call her tomorrow because I know I will be busy on Valentines' day and will forget or run out of time. For more Tackle It Tuesday, visit 5 Minutes For Mom :)

Run For The Whales, Maui 2008
2008-02-11 15:40:00
UPDATE: I decided to make this my "Works For Me Wednesday Post". Joining a 5K run is a good motivator for me to exercise. I am looking forward to the Wahine 5K run in May after I did the Run For The Whale below). Hey, this works for me!For more Works For Me Wednesday tips visit Melanie at "Don't Try This At Home" :)****Saturday February 9, some co-worker and friends (Ron, Ben, Byron and Shannon) and I, participated in the Run For The Whales Fun Run. We did the 5K run and it was fun!It was a last minute decision for me. And knowing that we would be staying up late the previous night because of The Music Man, I was afraid I would bail out. I did not pre-register so it would have been easy for me not to show up on the run. Good thing I asked Ron to give me a ride to this event because my husband has a Taekwondo class at that time and I didn't want to drive to the event myself because I wasn't sure where exactly it would be and my sense of direction is bad.6:45 AM Ron picked me...

Music Man on Maui
2008-02-10 17:43:00
Last Friday we watched the stage show "The Music Man" at the MACC. Not only was the show very entertaining, it was a very special show to watch because our of best friends Kenny and Cassie, and the Kepler family. You see about 22 years ago, Kenny played the role of Winthrop while Cassie played the role of Amaryllis. Now, they are married and have 2 wonderful sons :)Here's what Maui News wrote about it:Winthrop and Amaryllis were Kenny Kepler and Cassie Taylor, in the last performance of ?Music Man? on Maui in 1986, back when MAPA was still Maui Youth Theatre at Pu?unene. Kenny and Cassie met dancing the roles at age 11. Kenny was at Iao School; Cassie was at Kihei. There was an instant spark between the two even at that age, Cassie says. For Cassie, it was one of her first and only times in theater, but for Kenny, it was all in the family ? his dad and brother were also in the production. ?Once the show ended, we broke up, but we were still friends,? Cassie says. Both went on t...

Magic ...
2008-02-08 19:06:00
Valentine is in the air. There are a lot of talks about love and romance. It's contagious. It ought to be. Valentine is an excuse for us to be mushy and lovey-dovey. Why not? Valentine is a time to rekindle love, and romance...And speaking of romance, today, I came up with a definition of romance. I'm sure it won't pass Merriam Webster's definition, but it's something I created my won. For me romance is "committed love sprinkled with magic". It's like knowing that you'd want to spend the rest of of your life with that particular person... but there's that "feeling", that floating feeling that's peculiar to it. You cannot fake it. It must come from within. It's magic...I am reminded of the few scenes and lines on one of my favorite movies of all time: Sleepless in Seattle. Here they go:Scence 1:H: Hello, Sam, this is Dr. Marsha Fieldstone on Network America. If there was one question I was allowed to ask...S: Oh go ahead. H: People who truly loved once are far mor...

I May Not Be Able To Go To Las Vegas In March, At Least I Won The Last Bunc
2008-02-07 08:57:00
I was hoping to go to Las Vegas in March for the Bunco Championship on March 7 to 9, but it looks like its not happening. That's too bad because I really really wanted to go. Aside from my desire to play bunco at Ceasar's, for a chance to win the $50,000 prize (imagine, I can quite my job and be a full time stay at home mom for a year), I wanted to go to Las Vegas because it's close to where my brother and sister in law lives. They told me that if I go to Las Vegas, they will drive there so we can see each other! I'm bummed that I am missing that opportunity. It's too bad that I am not going because this Bunco Championship Event sponsored by Prisolec looks like so much fun. About 2,000 crazy fun-loving women will be there, screaming BUNCO! Prilosec's marketing team is a genius for targeting "us" mostly the middle aged fun loving group of women, to promote their product for heart burns. I had been visiting their website out of curiosity and the event planned sounds fantast...

Works For Me Wednesday: Amazon and Mikarose
2008-02-06 05:58:00
It's interesting that the theme of this week's Works For Me Wednesday is our favorite on-line store; because that's exactly what I did on our last Bloggy Give-away. Gave away Gift Certificates from two of my favorite on-line store. My first favorite is Amazon .com. It is actually the very first on-line store I felt comfortable ordering from. I don't think they need any promotion because everyone knows them already.Recently, I discovered another store called MikaRose. MikaRose is an online a store with a wide variety of modest but very elegant dresses. When I first discovered it, it reminded me of the "Moms of Modesty" campaign on blogosphere (which reminded me that I need to put the button back in my sidebar). I thought, since I am promoting "Moms For Modesty" I should be a role model for modesty for my daughter - this has became one of my favorite on-line store. And because the owner was quite pleased with all your visits last Bloggy Giveaway time, she said that she's giv...

Confessions of A Christian Working Mom Part 3: Prioritizing and Balancing
2008-02-04 16:03:00
Because time is so important as we strive to balance family (that includes marriage and parenting) and work, life seems to be a constant quest on making sure I am prioritizing correctly everyday. For example, yesterday was Superbowl Sunday. In my mind, its a perfect day for me to do my chores while hubby watch the football with our friends. But when hubby asked if I would watch him and I said I wasn't planning on it, he said he'd really enjoy it if I watch it with him. Then I remember how Dr. Harley in his book "His Needs, Her Needs" mentioned that "recreational companionship" is among the top 5 needs of husbands."And so I said, ok, I'll watch it with him. It would have been easier to watch it at home with him while I fold laundry at the same time, but we don't have cable in the house so we have to watch it with our friends on their house. And watching it with friends is actually so much better. And since we're watching it with friends, we also decided to do a potluck lunch...

Growing Friendships - Part 1
2008-02-03 16:49:00
I came home early from bunco last night but "blogging brain" wasn't tuned in the "bunco station", so even though I wanted to post something about it right away, I didn't. I will post about the February bunco later. If you've been a reader of this blog for a while, you know that the "story about how I felt abandoned and rejected by some friends at one point in time" is a recurring issue. Letting go of that hurt (and fear of being abandoned again) is something that I continually struggle with and pray for that I will overcome. At first I just want to "deny" my feelings about it. At first I thought, I should say anything about it anymore - like "if I don't talk about it, it will go away". But denial works only temporarily, and if I don't deal with this issue on it's root - this "weed of resentment" that Satan is planting in my heart will grow and take over. And I don't want these weeds to take over. I want flowers in my heart, like daisies.A few weeks back, I won a book in a ...

Prrrtttt .... Foul!
2008-02-03 10:16:00
Sunday Scribbling's prompt this week is "FOUL".....My introduction to this word "foul" was through "basketball games" we used to watch as a family, when I was a kid. (remember, English is my second language).Prrrtttt ... foul! the referee whistled as he would point out who the "foul" was (or who did the foul move).I am just thinking ...would it be nice if we all have a referee to make us accountable for our actions. Wouldn't it be nice to have an "official referee" for our families that when kids (or us - hubby and I) do not play nice, he (or she) would call, whistle and shout - Foul!

Snow On Haleakala, Maui
2008-02-02 17:50:00
My photos for this week's weekly winners are actually taken in 2005; when we drove to the peak of Hale akala Mountain late afternoon (stayed there until 10 PM) to experience the snow. Who says it does not snow on Maui ?This week it snowed again on Haleakala, but we couldn't go because the roads were closed (conditions unsafe - icy wet), so I am glad we were able to in Jan 2005. Below are the photos:I found some winner photos on the net of the Haleakala Summitwhen it snowed back in 2002. Click HERE.For more Weekly Winners photos and posts, visit Sarcastic Mom Blog.

Wise Words
2008-02-02 10:09:00
?My dear brothers (and sisters),take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.? ? James 1:19The other day, Wednesday morning to be exact, my hubby said something to me that annoyed me, irritated me, hurt me, angered me. Immediately a post was composed in my head - mental blogging rushin' in. Fortunately, God did not allow me to put those thoughts into this blog. Oh, how I wanted to post. I had in my mind a hundred and one reasons why my hubby should not have said what he said, why what he said is not true, blah, blah, blah. But I promised myself not to dishonor my husband on this blog. At least not too much ; - just like this mini story like this one, to drive my point. What's my point? My point is I am glad I waited... I am glad I did not type and hit publish. I waited until my emotions subsided. I waited until I can post a post like this instead of a rant that would have made you all "dislike" my poor hubby (without him know...

Go Red!
2008-02-01 20:34:00
The photo is from Christmas 2007. But I am posting it today because today I am wearing that same blouse I wore on the photo. It's National Wear Red Day in connection with the THE HEART TRUTH and I am supporting them! And why are we all smiling on this photo? Because someone farted as the automatic camera is taking this. Who? I won't tell. Would you like to guess who?
National Wear Red Day
2008-02-01 09:57:00
I almost forgot about this. Good thing I visited Genbetween and got reminded. Here are some info of what's it's about according to Busymom at Genbetween:Heart disease is the number one killer of women, one in four women die from it each year. And, often women with heart disease are misdiagnosed, or, not treated at all. Celebrate the kick-off to American Heart Month with National Wear Red Day and The Heart Truth, on February 1st, 2008 (tomorrow!) a day when Americans nationwide wear red to show their support for women?s heart disease awareness. Join the Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; Office on Women?s Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; WomenHeart: the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease; American Heart Association; and many other groups to promote National Wear Red Day in your local community. Wear your favorite red shirt, accessory, lipstick or whatever you have and join in to raise awareness of women?s heart disease.I already have chosen what I...

Dear friends,Below is a draft. I don't have the time to finalize it because I need to get ready for work. I'll clean it up later and will make the "links" live. If you have any suggestions, please let me know in your review, comments and suggestions. I won't put this up in their linky until this is finalized tonight. Thanks. Update: I just read the guidelines again and realized I need to write more about what She Speaks Conference is about. I'd do that tonight.*****It was in October 2005 when my blogging begun. A certain situation at our ohana (church small group) left me feeling abandoned, rejected, hurt. I was feeling alone, depressed and tired. I needed a ?safe place? to vent. I?m a person who?s into journaling, so I did. But I needed more, and so I tried blogging. ?From the top of the mountain looking down, from the pit of the valley looking up and from somewhere in between looking in, my thoughts are written here.? Sweet Posts, and Cramming For She Speaks
2008-01-31 09:09:00
I am desperately trying to come up with a "winning piece" on why I should win the scholarship to the "She Speaks" conference to be held in June at Concord, NC. I am cramming, just like those days back when I was cramming for my book reports in school. You know, sometimes that how and when the creative juices flow ;)The deadline for the above contest is Friday, Feb. 1st. Therefore this post for today will be short and sweet. I hope to put the "winning piece" up by tomorrow (I wish it's a winning piece)And speaking of sweet, I'd like to point you two of the sweetest posts I've ever read. Read Scott's here and Cindy's here. This couple makes me sick! ;) Kidding aside, they inspire me. If most couples would be as honoring as them to each other - there will be lesser divorce in this world. Now, go there and read. For some you might need to have a tissue handy.

Armor of God, and the Roaring Lion
2008-01-30 16:16:00
The other day when I arrived at the office, one of my officemates said "Oh I heard you're now popular". My first thought was he heard about my blog. But I didn't want to assume so I asked "what do you mean?". "Well, K said there's a message in the recorder for you" he said "What message?" I asked. "Oh, she hasn't told you yet. Someone who's a 'breather' ", he laughed. That's all he needed to say for me to know it was an obscene phone call. I decided to ignore it. Didn't even listen to it. But these Bible words below came to mind when I debated whether to do anything more about it or not:Ephesians 6:10-17:"Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.Put on the whole armor of God,that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.Wherefore take unto you t...
