Mrs. Reagen always said, ?Just Say No?
2008-04-11 03:19:00
We are in the middle of a tornado warning. So the news has taken over and we are missing Survivor. It’s not good enough to have the warning go across the bottom of the screen. No they like to break in to programming and go over and over how we need to go the basement ...
The Cure for Modern Life by Lisa Tucker
2008-04-09 20:41:00
As part of the Mother Talk book tour, I recently read The Cure for Modern Life by Lisa Tucker . The Cure for Modern Life is a “novel about what it means in the twenty-first century to be responsible, to care about other people, and to do the right thing.” The Cure for Modern Life has a ...
Mr. Blackwells Worst Parenting List
2008-04-09 05:05:00
Does Mr. Blackwell have a list for parenting? Instead of worst dressed it would be worst parenting. I would totally make that list after today. Skyler’s dance class is on Saturday mornings, but as we get closer to her recital they have combined with the Tuesday night class to get two practices in each week. This ...

Did you hear about what Justis’ girlfriend’s mom did the other night that totally pissed me off? The nerve of some people’s mothers. My friend Lori could use a cyber hug. Her mom has decided to stop dialysis. Melissa is starting a new website called Root and Sprout. “Root and Sprout is a place for moms and ...

The park is no place for children
2008-04-06 04:32:00
Thursday it snowed. Quite a bit actually. I could barely see as I was driving to the store to search for organic fruits and vegetables, it was snowing that hard. Luckily it was still fairly warm out (a few degrees above freezing) so the snow wasn’t really sticking to the ground. By Friday the snow had ...

What Not to Say, the stepmom edition
2008-04-05 06:47:00
We interrupt this week of totally freaking out to bring you an interesting article I just read. If you’re dying to hear about the level of my anxiety (currently around a code orange) you can read about it at Weary Parent. So about that article… I’ve been a stepmom for a long time. Almost fifteen years (including ...

Healthy Child Healthy World: Creating a cleaner, greener, safer home
2008-04-04 07:19:00
I’m a walking disaster. I have asthma, sinus problems and OCD. It’s amazing I can get out of bed some days. But recently I’ve been getting in to the green movement and it occurred to me that my house may very well be killing me. Of course it’s not the houses fault. It’s my fault for not taking better care of myself and for using products that are potential harmful, such as the cleaning supplies that practically burn the hairs right out of my nose. Recently I decided to stop bitching (ok, maybe not stop, but at least cut down) about my health and actually do something about it. I’ve started doing some research. I’m switching out all of our cleaning supplies including our dishwasher soap and laundry detergent. I’m reading labels (gasp) on the products I buy and the things that I eat. So when Mother Talk said they needed reviewers for Healthy Child Healthy World by Christopher Gavigan, I jumped at the chance. I need somebody to walk me th...

Imagine how I?ll be when these kids go off to college
2008-03-31 18:20:00
This is going to be a very stressful week for me. Keaton is leaving to go to Washington D.C. All by himself. Well him and about 100 of his closest friends and a few teachers. You know how I am when the kids are traveling without me. At our school the 8th graders have the opportunity ...

I feel Swistle’s pain. I often hear people say, “I don’t know how you do it” in reference to my five kids. But too me it’s more difficult to have just one or two. I don’t know what to do with myself when I have all that free time. I’m with Matthew. A blogger has every ...

2008-03-27 18:35:00
Last night, after all the kids were in bed, Lee and I gave two of our cats a bath. The two cats that keep running outside the second we open the door (now that it’s finally nice outside…in the 50s). Then we went to bed. About an hour later Spencer came in to our room holding ...

No job for you pregnant girl
2008-03-26 19:46:00
When I found out I was pregnant with Keaton I was working third shift as a Certified Nurses Aide in a nursing home specializing in Alzheimer’s patients. Much of the night was spent checking on residents and helping them to the bathroom if needed. But in the morning we had to help them up, get ...

One foot in my crazy world and one foot in the real world. It?s a start.
2008-03-26 04:52:00
Remember when I finally got up the courage to tell my doctor all about my crazy? And he diagnosed me with OCD? Well I think that medicine he prescribed (Citalopram) is actually helping. Imagine how good I’d be feeling if I actually took that medicine every day two years ago when he actually prescribed it ...

Everything I need to know I learned from the History channel
2008-03-25 05:13:00
I’m sitting here watching the History channel, like I do quite often (because I’m obsessed) and I’m learning tons about how Wonder makes their bread. Did you know there are 22 slices in every package of Wonder Bread? And you can tell what day the bread was made by the twist tie on the end. If it’s ...

Finding humor in gas station signs
2008-03-24 05:09:00
On our road trip home from grandma’s house, we stopped at a gas station I’ve never heard of before. It was called Marshalls (or something like that) and it was off the beaten path somewhere in Illinois. As we were parked to pump the gas I looked over and saw this sign. Maybe it was my ...

This week’s Sunday Linky Love is brought to you by the Easter Bunny. Happy Easter! The ladies over at Blissfully Domestic have our weekly meal plan. There’s even a printable version with recipes. That Chicken and Bacon Sandwich is making my mouth water. And now I have a recipe for my organic asparagus. There is a very ...
The things we do for our kids?like stay up until 3am to hide Easter eggs
2008-03-23 08:21:00
Today has been a very exhausting day. Since the kids are on Spring Break, I’ve been on vacation all week. But I have to say it hasn’t exactly been relaxing. We’ve been busy every day. We went to a movie and dinner one day. The next we went to a place called Enchanted Castle which ...

Where were you when?
2008-03-22 17:19:00
I tried to post this yesterday. You now, when it was actually Friday. But my hosting company apparently hates me and my site was down. I’ve decided to participate in this week’s Friday Flashback, along with Sweetney, Mrs. Flinger, Whoorl, Her Bad Mother, Mamalogues and Oh the Joys. Where were you when…? Our parents’ generation can recall ...

It has become our Easter tradition to drive to Grandma’s house for the weekend. The kids are always so excited to go to Grandma’s house. Shortly after we got here they all piled around Grandma for some pictures. Tomorrow the big fun starts. Swimming in the indoor pool at Grandma’s house. Going to see Horton Hears ...

The mom debate never ends
2008-03-20 04:35:00
There’s some controversy over at Work-It Mom regarding their decision to feature a new series titled 10 Reasons Working Moms Should Feel Great About Themselves. This series is written by the controversial author of the book The Feminist Mistake; Leslie Bennetts. Some people are so passionate about their hatred for Ms. Bennetts they’ve decided to ...

My love list
2008-03-16 05:50:00
I decided to take the love list challenge. I love a good challenge. The rules are you can’t include a single person you know on your list. No “I love the way my husband laughs” or “I love hearing my little girl call for me.” It’ll be tough, I know. But this particular little exercise ...

Skyler is very creative. She loves to write and perform her own songs, choreograph her own dance performances, draw anything, make cards for loved ones, design outfits for her barbie dolls. If it’s creative she loves it. One of her favorites is making her own jewelry. Last night the teens were off doing their thing and ...

Finding Childcare (part 2)
2008-03-12 21:57:00
When we last left off from Working Wednesday, I had finally gotten Keaton in to the daycare of our dreams. But that was short lived. Keaton was sick a lot when he was an infant. If a kid at daycare had a cold Keaton caught it. I think I had him at the doctor’s office once ...

Thank goodness we don?t live in Connecticut
2008-03-12 18:42:00
At a New Haven, Connecticut school an eighth grader got in trouble for buying candy. He was stripped of his class vice president title, barred from attending an honors student dinner and got a three day suspension (which was later reduced to one day) after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate. Seriously?!? What ...

Yesterday’s masturbation post left me speechless. So I totally stole this little meme from This Woman’s Work for inspiration. 1. Who was your first prom date? I never went to prom. I was supposed to. I had a dress. I had shoes dyed to match. I had a boyfriend that said we were going to ...
I thought it was a math lesson, but then it went terribly wrong
2008-03-11 05:37:00
As I was giving Spencer hugs and kisses Spencer said, “Mom, I have some questions for you.” “Ok,” I said. “What’s seven times two?” “14″ “What’s ten times ten?” “100″ “What’s masturbation?” “Wha? Where did you hear that?” “On Transformers.” “Um, well it’s kind of when a person has sex, but they do it by themselves. Like a guy would touch his own private ...

These are stepping stones my kids made at Sunday School two weeks ago. They each planted their foot in to their stone while a helper stamped “walk with Jesus” around their foot. Then the kids got to decorate their stones. When I was young I was forced to go to church every Sunday, both Sunday School ...

Finding Childcare (part 1)
2008-03-06 04:47:00
Today is Wednesday. Do you know what that means? It means it’s time for the Working Wednesday series. That’s a series I just made up right now about working moms. See how clever I am. Maybe I’ll even make a clever banner for next week. We’ll see. So anyway, I’ve been thinking (hey, I think sometimes), ...
