This morning I got an email from the school superintendent. It read, “There is a current controversy about President Obama?s speech to the nation?s school children next Tuesday. Remember when I went school supply shopping almost three weeks ago? Remember how I found everything at Target but pink erasers and a TI-83 graphing calculator? Getting too old for the waterpark
2009-08-17 05:14:00
Yesterday we took the kids on our annual trip to a nearby waterpark. It’s something we’ve been doing for several years. And every year that evil waterpark reminds us just how old were getting. 35 things I’ll be doing on my 35th birthday in Vegas
2009-06-11 19:44:00
Today is my 35th birthday. Yeah, I said it. 35. I’m not ashamed. I’m 35. My mom’s birthday is Saturday. She probably doesn’t want me to tell you how old she is so I’ll just leave it at…it’s her birthday. To celebrate we are taking (or actually are currently on) a mother/daughter trip to Las Vegas . I’m really hoping there’s some sort of birthday girl jackpot. (Shouldn’t there be like a $35M jackpot for the birthday girl turning 35?) But I haven’t been able to find it just yet. So to celebrate I’ve made a list of 35 things I’ll be doing in Vegas over the next three days. Call Lee and the kids every day. I miss them already. Live tweet my trip on Twitter. Follow me at http://twitter.com/thebeanblog. Gamble. See Criss Angel Believe at the MGM. Drink out of a big ol’ glass shaped like a building. Wander around on the strip. Stuff myself at a buffet. Thoughts from the road
2009-06-11 19:00:00
I hate to drive. I drive to work and back and that’s about it. Anytime we go somewhere as a family I make Lee drive. Whenever I go out with my friends I try to convince one of them to pick me up. Driving sucks. So imagine my excitement on the four hour drive to meet my mom in Chicago for our birthday trip to Vega. Four hours in a car. By myself. Good times. To keep myself entertained I turned the radio up really loud. Thank goodness for XM. I didn’t have to suffer through any static on the trip. Just my kind of music. All the way there. Lee worries about me when I drive. So to prepare he always makes sure all of the car’s fluids are full (oil, windshield washer fluid, etc) and he fills it up with gas. The tires on my truck need to be replaced so he borrowed some tires from a friend just for my trip. The new tires are a little taller than my old crappy tires. So I spent the whole trip worried I was going to topple over in my SUV like I keep hearing about on the news...

Schools out for summer…or not
2009-06-09 03:35:00
It’s been an exhausting week. Between class field trips, track & field days, a little nagging about grades, packing up Justis for his move, final dance recitals and soccer games…I’m beat. The end of the school year is tiring. Today was the last day of school. My baby is now a 2nd grader. My twins are now ruling the school as 4th graders (as 5th & 6th graders move up to the Intermediate school). And my oldest is a sophomore. When did these kids get so dang old? Speaking of getting old, I’m on the verge of my 35th birthday. My birthday is Thursday. And my mom’s birthday is Saturday. We are celebrating with a mother/daughter trip to Vegas. I haven’t really had any time to get excited about the trip yet since I’ve been taking care of the family. But four days in Vegas will be a nice relaxing time. And maybe I’ll win a bunch of money and get to quit my job. A girl can dream. But before I go to Vegas I need to start summer school. T...
