Every email that I get these days is always concluded with the word "Thanks". I even get it in other languages.I think this has replaced "Sincerely" or "Respectfully Yours" or other closings people used to close letters. I am not sure there is a reason for anybody to write "Thanks", as if they are grateful for me even reading their message or they are thanking me in advance for doing something for them (which I might not do).Sometimes, when I reply back to someone with some information, I get the one-word "Thanks". I've been down with the mother of all sinus infections, with really icky dark yellow gunk coming out of my nose and white-pain shooting through my head and face, all the way down my jawline. Being in the Internet Biz, I am a big fan of all the "Web 2.0" social applications and web sites: I love Digg and Reddit, still trying to figure out what to do with Twitter and my favorite has to be delicious, but I question their effectiveness as a real marketing tool for business. They accomplish their goals of allowing people to share ideas, information and sites ( I think they are a politician's dream....and nightmare), but I think they fail as an effective marketing tool for business because they are really closed forums. By that, I mean their effectiveness to market is only reachable to other social application users. I would imagine that in terms of a business trying to market their idea and concept/product to the rest of the world, the Web 2.0 group would be a very, very small section of it - almost so small it wouldn't be worth putting any time into it. Quitting Coffee

Well Java, it's been nice. I will miss you, but it's time to go.I'm quitting drinking coffee this weekend. I have drank at least 2 cups a day since I was a freshman in college (a loooong fucking time ago) and at my peak it was 8 cups a day.But the caffeine messes with my diabetes and in this battle, diabetes wins. I am drinking some detox tea I got at the health food store and I have a big bottle of Tylenol I got from Sam's club in anticipation of the murderous fucking headache I will have all weekend. For health reasons, I stopped drinking sodas about two years ago. Today, there was no more water in the cooler and the Ozarka guy had not shown up at our office so I took a diet Dr. Pepper out of the fridge and drank it. Now, I seriously feel I am going to barf. Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children -- last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water." Houses had thatched roofs -- thick straw -- piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the dogs, cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof -- hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."
