The Week in ReviewJanuary 5, 2008 | From theTrumpet.comPoppies in Afghanistan, radicals in Egypt, euros in the Mediterranean, critics in Taiwan, riots in Kenya, and much more. Middle EastPakistan continued to dominate news headlines this week, even as the riots following Benazir Bhutto?s death largely subsided. Bhutto?s assassination on Dec. 27, 2007, triggered a wave of nationwide violence that killed almost 60 people and caused more than $200 million worth of damage. In Bhutto?s home province of Sindh, the army was deployed to help quell the unrest. As a result of the instability, the Pakistani general election, originally scheduled for January 8, has been put off till February 18. Besides thrusting the nuclear-armed, Islamist-sympathizing Pakistan into greater political turmoil and instability, Bhutto?s death exposed both the utter inability of the United States to influence Pakistani politics to its advantage, and the hugely flawed idea that democracy is a cure-all for anti-Amer...

Slingbox Goes High Definition, Adds Support for BlackberryFrom http://www.bigpicturebigsound.comSling High, Sling LowWith their recent acquisition by Echostar Communications, you might have thought that the folks at Sling Media would be quiet for a while, figuring out the best go-to-market strategy with their new partner DISH Network. But that doesn't appear to be the case as Sling is kicking off the new year with some big product news. For those unfamiliar with all things Sling (where have you been hiding?), the Slingbox is a device that allows you to watch your TV, including live local channels, DVR recordings and DVDs, from virtually anywhere in the world that has internet access. The Slingbox itself sits in your audio/video system, quietly spying on the audio and video outputs of your cable box, satellite receiver, OTA tuner and/or DVD player and translating these feeds to a media stream to be broadcast within a home network or externally to the Internet. On the front end is the...

Malta and Cyprus Adopt Euro January 3, 2008 | From theTrumpet.comThe European Union cements its influence in the Mediterranean. On January 1, Malta and Cyprus officially adopted the euro. Both nations occupy key locations for controlling the Mediterranean, Northern Africa and Southern Europe. With these two island states joining the eurozone, the European Union?s influence in these important areas will become more deeply entrenched. At the beginning of the new year, just after midnight, the countries? leaders withdrew their first euros from cash machines amid fireworks and celebration. Both countries hope for great economic gains from increased investment and tourism thanks to the currency. The EU, however, has its own reasons for wanting Malta and Cyprus in the eurozone. Winston Churchill called the Mediterranean Europe?s ?soft underbelly.? It was Malta?s heroic stand in the face of heavy Nazi bombing and a strong naval blockade that made the invasi...

I had a wonderful 25th of Dec.Al and Hotman worked real hard for yesterday's gatherings. They're such real wonderful hosts and good-hearted people. The food was fab, the present(s) were practically useful and I'm obviously owe so much to both of them. I got three presents from them and one from Kiko, the sweetheart dog.In the end of the day I was terribly overfed (too much sugar! and a half glass of red wine), had a toothache and overwhelmed by how many lil things I can thankful for. There are miracles in life and it always sits aside with the obstacles and problems that seem never to cease. Now, am in the middle of crossroad when none of the ways really give a comfort in my heart: Honestly, the job that I have now corrupts the good feeling in my heart and left me naked with unwanted emotions. I hate it with all of my hearts and I once was on the verge of leaving it for good, but then I have nothing in the future if I'm slipping it off of my shoulder and become penniless is unbear...

Enriched Confidence: Post-NIE Iran December 26, 2007 | From theTrumpet.comFollowing Washington?s disastrous intelligence estimate, Tehran is taking advantage of the situation. By Philip Nice Tehran is prowling the streets of the Middle East with a new swagger to its step. Following December 3?s National Intelligence Estimate (nie), which claimed Iran had a clandestine nuclear weapons program but abandoned it four years ago, Tehran has been getting all the political and strategic leverage it can out of the situation, which is quite a bit. In response to the report, the man who wants Israel wiped off the map in ?one storm? and looks forward to ?a world without America? claimed ?victory? for Iran and said, ?It was in fact a declaration of surrender.? Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his politico-religious bosses were represented in the report as ?rational actors? who responded to international pressure and incentives. It's been a blank week. I haven't done much and haven't fun at all.You can see how was my week from my email to Al and nothing extraordinary or nice things happened to me.Well, the salary at least makes a difference and I could buy the detergent, shampoo and stuffs and get done with some of much needed payments. This time of year, I never keep myself from the sensitive part of me. December makes me sorta saddie. Probly cause I always find myself looking back in the all-year-round history and don't find any satisfying things I've done from January till now. It's necessarily important to set up goals for the next year and finding 'get a new job' in the long list turns me off and makes me wanna sing Amazing Grace in Arabic.Out of the payments and all, I cannot afford to buy myself a xmas gift, much less from mom and both of my sisters. Much less telling them I'll be jobless as soon as I meet them in person. This makes me think a million times about my plan to visit them yet I'm...

But the problem is I have to computer. YOu know what, I don't go to work and I don't care if anyone will be pissed off.I've been discussing it with three other members of my Hardcore team about my decision to quit, and most of them said, "Go for it, if it's that's good for you." However, they are both encouraging and questioning my plan. "Why don't you just keep your ass in this shithouse until you got a new job?" Mery told me the other nite.YOu probly fed up hearing my excuse but am whole-heartedly sick of the job and prefer eat once a day and free from hatred, anger, curses of the runaway credit card holders which is never fail ruining my...

12 Tips to Improve the Quality of Your Free Time Posted: 20 Dec 2007 09:00 AM CST Are you happier at your job, or during your free time? Unless you?ve followed the research of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi you would probably be surprised at the actual answer. He conducted studies which recorded peoples current levels of happiness at random points both during work and off-hours. The surprising conclusion? People felt happier on the job, even though they said they would rather be at home. Csikszentmihalyi believes that this is because, even if they dislike their job, work provides a constructive environment. It has rules, challenges and can be formatted to focus your otherwise wandering attention. Leisure, without any structure, can become to boredom and apathy. A good portion of lifehack.org is devoted towards productivity. That means improving the quality of your working hours, so you can work less, get more done and achieve more on the job. But, what is the use of freeing up extra t...

Israel Government Idle as Hamas Broadcasts from Temple Mount December 21, 2007 | From theTrumpet.comIf there?s one thing the Palestinians can depend on from Israel, it?s a consistent flow of concessions. Winning concessions from the Jewish state is virtually a weekly ritual. This week the Israeli government gave Hamas exclusive rights to broadcast its anti-Israel, violence-provoking message via radio from the Temple Mount, while at the same time banning Jews from visiting the site. The decision by Israel occurred as sacred holidays of the Jews and Muslims crossed paths. For Muslims, Wednesday began Eid ul-Adha, the holiday marking the Islamic equivalent of Akeidat Yitzchak, the binding of Isaac (or, as the Muslims believe, Ishmael) by Abraham. For the Jews, Wednesday was a Jewish fast day commemorating the beginning of the siege by Nebuchadnezzar on Jerusalem over 2,500 years ago that resulted in the destruction of the First Temple. Needless to say, Mu...

Do Your Emails Suck? How to Write Emails That Get Results Posted: 19 Dec 2007 07:30 AM CST Feel like a slave to your inbox? Improve your writing and you?ll save plenty of time by eliminating miscommunications and the need for follow-up. Email management productivity tips can only do so much if you don?t know how to write an effective email. That doesn?t mean you have to strive for lyrical prose in every message (though I always welcome lyrical prose in my inbox). The key is to communicate clearly and effectively so that recipients know exactly what they need to do in response and you can avoid endless back-and-forth and time-consuming misunderstandings. The following are some basic guidelines for writing more effective emails: Get to the Point: Every email that you write should have a clear purpose. For example, your purpose may be to deliver key information, to request a follow-up action, or to persuade someone to your point of view. In a well-written email, the purpose is state...

Central Banks Turn On the Printing Presses December 19, 2007 | From theTrumpet.comWhen central banks offer ?unlimited? below-market credit, somebody is scared; but the cure may be worse than the ailment. The European Central Bank (ecb) has opened an unlimited credit window to financial institutions for two weeks to help repair damage from the credit crisis, the bank announced Tuesday. Additionally, the ecb said it had made a record $501.5 billion ready to be loaned to banks affected by the crisis. ?Unlimited? is an awful lot of money. According to Financial Sense columnist Jas Jain, central banks have essentially promised to ?rain money? on the financial sector. $501.5 billion, for example, is enough to purchase JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp. and Citigroup Inc.?three of America?s biggest financial institutions?lock, stock and barrel, and still have multiple billions in change left over. According to Stratfor, the ecb?s Decembe...

click here for free printed magz! EU Agrees to Beef Up Presence in Kosovo December 18, 2007 | From theTrumpet.comThe European Union is emerging as the driving force behind Kosovo?s independence. European Union leaders agreed last Friday to deploy around 1,800 police and security personnel to Kosovo, a volatile Serbian province expected to announce its independence from Serbia any day now. The EU?s decision to beef up its presence in the Balkans is further evidence of its desire to be the primary facilitator of Kosovo?s independence. Ever since Germany and the Vatican recognized the breakaway states of Croatia and Slovenia in 1991, Europe?s largest states have maintained a subtle divide-and-conquer policy in the Balkans in an effort to secure European dominance of this strategic corridor. Nothing has changed in their current approach to Kosovo. Concurrent with sending more forces into Kosovo, the EU is attempting to woo the Serbians into agreeing ...

That's right, people! Oh....shame on you for missing the best part of the nite: our choir! Hahahahaha. See, we sang half-heartedly but then ate up the food whole-heartedly, if not religiously.Deborah was there with me even though it was her mom who was so approvingly glad for the idea while Deb herself looked dead bored and, sadly, in the end, was awarded with a pain-in-the-ass of a high-heel shoes of the girl who sat next to her....

Germany: EU to Promptly Recognize Kosovo Independence December 10, 2007 | From theTrumpet.com The German foreign minister has confirmed that the European Union will promptly recognize Kosovo?s independence should Pristina make a unilateral declaration. The Itar-Tass news agency reported Monday that Wolfgang Ischinger, a German diplomat who represented the EU in the group of three international mediators (Russia, the United States and the EU) at the talks between Serbia and Kosovar Albanians on the future status of Kosovo, told Radio Berlin Brandenburg that the EU would reach agreement on the problem within a few days. Ischinger was quick to point out, however, that such Kosovar independence would still allow for an EU presence, with Kosovo not being a sovereign country in its own right. ?It will be a state entity, which will continue to be under broad international observation,? he said. ?The nato troops will continue to be deployed there. Brad MacdonaldColumnist Washington?s Kurdish Quandary November 29, 2007 | From theTrumpet.comAmerica?s geopolitical impotence is being exposed in the rugged hills of northern Iraq. Brad Macdonald The Turkish military has buzzed with activity in recent months. Nearly 100,000 soldiers and a vast array of tanks, heavy artillery and military aircraft have been deployed along Turkey?s border with Iraq. The build-up is a response to increased attacks on Turkey by Kurdish rebels from the Kurdistan Workers? Party (pkk), a tenacious terrorist group operating from the northern hills of Iraq that is bent on establishing a territorial Kurdish state in southeast Turkey, as well as parts of Syria, Iraq and Iran. Multiple parties have much at stake in this ruckus, but no one, not even Turkey, has as much to lose as the United States. The reason for this is essentially a matter of options. Russian Election: More Evidence of Putin?s Absolute PowerDecember 3, 2007 | From theTrumpet.comIf what happened in Russian politics yesterday occurred in virtually any other nation, it would make blockbuster news. But the sweeping victory of Vladimir Putin?s United Russia party in parliamentary elections on Sunday surprised no one and confirmed the obvious: Putin has near absolute control over Russia. The Economist reports (emphasis ours throughout):It was never in doubt that Vladimir Putin?s United Russia party would get a sweeping victory in the parliamentary elections on Sunday December 2nd. The entire government machine, the court system, the prosecution service, the police, the state media and even the central commission itself were deployed to produce a landslide victory.Nothing was left to chance to ensure a high turnout. We had a meeting yesterday around 6 pm, it was a team meeting led by the SPV guy, a Javanese married man who talks very Javanese and smiles alot.Unfortunately, he does talk alot as well. The point was we need to improve our self-esteem at work, increase the productivity, gain more score, get more payments and less sucked, stressed and don't be bitchy bout the pressure and all. Yes, sir. The rule is so simple: the company wants more profit and you have a great time at the same time, which is, for me (personally) impossible. Mostly because I'm not one of these people who find it OK to get screamed at, cursed, had arguments with jerks who tell you it wasn't your granny's money so get the fuck outta their lives. OK, it's simply because I'm not cut out for this kind of job.
