2007-12-02 14:12:00 How to Set an Appointment With Yourself Posted: 29 Nov 2007 08:30 AM CST When you?re deep inside a jungle, your vision is blocked by the trees. In order to plan a route, you need to break out of the dense forest and see the entire landscape. Similarly, if you?re thick in the jungle of your own life, you might not be able to see much beyond next week. Setting an appointment with yourself can give you the broader perspective of what you?re doing to help make changes. The problem is that if you don?t structure a personal appointment carefully, it becomes a waste of time. The purpose of an appointment with yourself is to gather information and make plans that go beyond solving the immediate crises of the day. Meditating and practicing Zen chants might be great, but your appointment needs to be run with a focus. What Should a Personal Appointment Cover? Your personal appointment should answer several key questions: What are the results I?m getting in the different areas of my life?Wha... More About: Life , Buzz , Coach

In June 1999, the Trumpet explained how computer dependence is America?s Achilles? heel. Since then, technology has evolved fast and furious, and the United States, together with the rest of the world, has grown ever more dependent on computers and networking. Cybercrime has become the arrow directed at that Achilles heel?and not just for America. This fact was confirmed in a report released this week by Internet security company McAfee. The following snippets come from McAfee?s summary of the report. The increasing cyber threat to national security An estimated 120 countries are leveraging the Internet for political, military and economic espionage activities. Middle East The most-high-profile news relating to the Middle East this week centered around the Arab-Israeli peace talks at Annapolis, Maryland. Unsurprisingly, the outcome was an agreement to hold more talks: bi-weekly meetings between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. With full details of the conference yet to be disclosed, the Annapolis summit and the lead-up to it did, however, highlight several significant trends, a primary one being the growing divide between the United States and Israel. Besides an Iranian bomb, the greatest threat to Israel?s existence is diminished support from its long-time ally, the U.S. The dangerous erosion of U.S. support for Israel was revealed in the joint statement on whe... 2007-11-29 12:11:00 I left the office building with a sense of relief, but from what?Boredom, maybe."Don't go home before the choir practice!" warned one of the choir coaches. We got two, the senior staffs who had spent their univ years with, what else but choir.A few minutes when it approached to five pm, Mr. D did this routine supervision, cruising on every single PC, asked everyone how they were doing. And then my phone (office's) rang in its faintest volume (only if there's incoming call or a parallel call)."Hell no! I'm not gonna take this phone call," I said to myself, felt sort of worried if Mr. D would see that I ignored an incoming call.I was hoping I could go home at 2pm but today's my overtime schedule."Can I leave at 2?" I asked S, my senior, my same shift partner, I knew the answer but I just love seeing him pissed off. And hey, sometimes good thing happens and....Yes, I had to work and make another bunch of phone calls to the same numbers and knew for sure that none of them wanted to ... More About: Thursday

He'd receive a wow paycheck for last month's work, like more than 20 million rupiah.I feel happy for him and honestly, it always gives me a warm feeling when I know another staffs would make it big next month and so on.But I've come to a decision, I know you might think it's silly,... Here?s why this is a dangerous idea. Last Saturday, Australians booted one of the world?s strongest national leaders and awarded a landslide electoral victory to an untested man with questionable ideas. Prime Minister John Howard recognized an important reality: that, given Australia?s location at the rump of Asia, the nation?s most valuable alliances lie with other nations?though geographically distant?rooted in the same history, culture, religion, language, democratic traditions and national character as its own, particularly Britain and America. There are several reasons that the nation-state as a political unit of sovereignty is under threat. One of the most basic causes of this continuous erosion of national power throughout the world is the transformation of minority-dominated enclaves within nation-states into ungovernable areas where state power is either not applied or applied in a haphazard and generally unconstructive manner. While domestic strife between majority and minority populations has been an enduring feature of democratic and indeed all societies throughout history, the current turbulence constitutes a unique challenge to the nation-state system. So, I had to go home, taking care of my outfits to wear this week and God knows what to do for the rest of the day: deadly uneventful.Anyway, I'll work the morning shift this week, meaning I'd have a normal week, which is good. I've got my telephone password yesterday but it's not activated from Jakarta. All staffs seemed so low-spirited, sleepy and tired today. I don't blame them for this because we've been working 7 days a week this week, and most of them stayed at the office from 7 am till you missed the sun and found your landlady's front door has been locked.Again, no complain, people! :)Time to get the most of the remaining SUnday!!

2007-11-09 03:44:00 How to Cut Crutch Words When Giving a Speech Posted: 08 Nov 2007 08:00 AM CST ??um?? ??you know?? ??like?? ??ah?? You?ve all seen it before. What would otherwise be a great presentation becomes one interrupted jumble of syllables. Instead of taking those key pauses to let the audience digest, every moment of hesitation is filled with a crutch word. Maybe it happens to you. Eliminating crutch words is one of the fastest ways to improve yourself as a speaker. Not only does it display confidence to your audience, but you become easier to understand as your message gets across. It isn?t easy to do, but if you can nuke those um?s and ah?s you are one step closer to winning over the crowd. Don?t Fear the Silence Um?s and ah?s come because as a speaker you naturally want to avoid silence. You?ve been conditioned for two-way conversations. When you pause, you get feedback from the other person and the conversation continues. On the stage, it is only you talking and the silence can b... More About: Buzz

2007-11-09 03:37:00 Pakistan Instability Deepens November 8, 2007 | From theTrumpet.comPakistani politics are descending into chaos. If democracy prevails, will Pakistan remain a U.S. ally? Pakistan?s president declared a state of emergency rule and suspended the Pakistani Constitution this past Saturday. He argued that the Pakistani Supreme Court?s decision to release some 60 suspected terrorists made the fight against Islamic terrorism impossible and necessitated a state of emergency rule. Since declaring this state of emergency, President Pervez Musharraf, who originally took control of Pakistan in a 1999 military coup, has replaced the chief justice, curtailed the media, banned public gatherings, and rounded up opposition leaders. Because the Supreme Court was planning to contest the validity of Musharraf?s recent reelection, his critics have used his drastic actions to accuse him of using the terrorists? release issue as a guise to remain in power after having promis... 2007-11-07 12:32:00 Index Card Hacks Posted: 05 Nov 2007 08:00 AM CST I love index cards. I?d like to blame Merlin Mann and his hipster PDA for this obsession, but I don?t use a hipster PDA and still I find myself unable to pass the index card rack at Office Depot without stopping for a look. Index cards provide a sturdier alternative to notepad paper, making them ideal for ?throwaway? notes like directions or phone numbers ? notes I?ll need to carry around a bit but won?t need to keep permanently. They?re also useful for note-taking for any task where you?ll need to re-order the notes later ? I use them a lot in my research to record quotes and reference information. And if you?ve never indexed a book (and who has?) you might not realize that they?re pretty useful for indexing, which I think might have something to do with why they?re called ?index cards?. 2007-11-01 13:10:00 Getting Rid of Yesterday: How to Start Your Day Fresh Posted: 30 Oct 2007 08:30 AM CDT Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could.Ralph Waldo Emerson Sometimes we start a day with the previous day still in mind. We think about the mistakes we made in the previous day, how things went wrong, and how we felt bad about it. No wonder it becomes difficult to focus on the current day. And since we cannot fully focus on the day, our performance may drop and things may once again go wrong. This pattern could repeat again and again, where the burden from the previous day is taken to the current day and make it bad, which will then be a burden for the following day. The chain may be hard to break and your overall performance may drop, not to mention the difficulty to have a peaceful mind. So it?s important leave the past day behind. Always start your new day fresh, without thinking about yesterday. This way you will be able to fully concentrate, do your best, and ... More About: Articles , Buzz

And I?m not talking about smoking while riding your push-bike. So the underlining productivity tip is not to multitask. Kim Roach wrote it in her article, 50 Ways To Increase Your Productivity and I threw up a few points on how you could carry out multiple tasks at once in How To Multitask. However, the message was you can?t multitask, so focus on one thing and move to the next when you can. A more accurate, and productive, method of multitasking is spending a short amount of time on one thing and then the next and then back to the first - so on and so on. WebMD has brought up another interesting point that may help, and that is when we are trying to master two tasks at once, it is best if they aren?t similar.
